***130-0 DECK TECH!***. Is Bullszat the Best Deck in MTGO 1 vs 1 EDH?

  • Two years ago I debuted a Rakdos CEDH deck that has quickly become not only my favorite Commander deck of all time, but my strongest as well. This design currently has a 130-0 streak on Magic Online, with no end in sight. It is the first deck I've ever played to a 100+ win streak on MTGO.
    In this video, I showcase an updated version of the deck, chronicling all the changes it has received in the two years since I first featured it. This is a shorter deck tech compared to my earlier ones, but it still contains lots of new information. Thanks for watching!

    You might swap one of those basic swamps to a snow-covered swamp (so you can't fail tainted pact).

I know that Brian may not have been focusing on other decks because of the streak but it is sometimes easier to get more games on MTGO when you're playing stuff that isn't quite so devastating for your opponent. I'm assuming cards that might make the cut for Omnath are Boseiju, Disciple of Freyalise, Fanatic of Rhonas, Phyrexian Nissa, and maybe Collective Resistance?

At this point I almost want it to end, but I can't quite bring myself to reverting back to weaker strategies that might risk it. I think I'll eventually lose with Bullszat, and then I can go back to messing with some older designs. They're actually fairly up to date, just not something I've been playing.

    • @Thebrianweissman
      @Thebrianweissman  Před 13 dny +2

      No idea yet actually, I haven't had time to play MTGO since Nadu was unleashed on the world. My hunch is that it could be very problematic, particularly in a tight list with a lot of early Countermagic. Heavy countermagic is one of the biggest weaknesses of Bullszat, particularly when it's paired with a clock. I think Bullszat could lose easily if it had a remotely slow draw.
      Time will tell of course, I'll eventually play some people running the thing. It could be the thing that finally ends the streak, it would be a mercy at this point!

      Rog/Tevesh is a valid commander pairing for cEDH and there are a few different ways to build it, but yeah, this current configuration is meant for 1v1 and wouldn't be ideal for winning a 4 player game.

      I haven't been playing enough to get a sense of how effective the deck really is in the format I play online. My suspicion is that it's pretty insane, probably a hyper-powerful version of Edric. However, it does require some key pieces that can be disrupted, and without them it's kind of just a 3/4 flyer for 3. I'll definitely have more to say if I can get some games in against the archetype though.

    ok DrEvo here... ive sat and thought about answering the actual question to this video. i would say red black tevesh isnt the best deck in edh or 1v1 cedh. reason for that. I have found that cedh white is often a silver bullet for a deck like this. red black tevesh can be extremely fast and goofy for sure. but its holes are the fact it relies so heavy on artifacts its almost worth it for an opponent to play artifacts themselves as well as play null rod. as long as you can remove planeswalkers and shut down artifacts as well as not let opponent play things at instant speed and are able to slow down the game or keep pace i have found anything played can be ok. if youre playing red against this deck i feel things like treasure nabber or price of glory are worth a look. urza artifacts.... now thats an interesting matchup. i had a game with nate where urza dominated. ive had a game prior to that where i know i lost but cant remember how. baral with a master of the game is extremely well as well as teferi. honestly i feel a tier list is needed. thats why i suggested that as a video. i feel 20 commanders, rated for 1v1 cedh would make for more conversation, as well as bring controversy.

      Haha, quite an ironic statement, when you consider :P We actually had the card in the deck from the day it was printed until fairly recently. But increasingly, the card was just too slow or too damaging to really leverage. I found myself casting it, having no immediate impact on the game, and then sometimes barely using the modes for one reason or another. Sometimes I didn't want to cast it at all. That's not the kind of consistency I require for a card in a deck this tight.
      In a way, the card is like a bad "modal" spell. There are a lot of modal cards like that, that seem to do a bunch of things, but don't really do anything well. That's kind of how I feel about Black Market Connections. I haven't missed it once since I cut it either, I've never found myself thinking "Man, I wish this card was BMC".

  • @BudgetPubStomper-lr7nh

    I don’t understand
    Are you playing against just one opponent?
    I have seen content on mtg online cedh. It’s not one v one.
    You have been a pro. You must know this isn’t an optimal build for cedh. How has this won 130-0?
    I don’t mean disrespect I know you are a great player and deck builder.. I’m truly confused.
    I don’t have mtgo, personally, I play cedh on spelltable and irl (have played a version of this very deck)
    This must be a case of there being 2 different things called “cedh” and you must be playing some 1 v 1 version of cedh?? Yes??
    Maybe a thing to clear up because there’s a huge and growing number of cedh players and they could see an old pro showing a deck and believe it’s a great (maybe “the best”) deck for cedh.
    Maybe there is a 1v1 version and it’s more popular than I SOMEHOW have caught on to in the literal 5 years I’ve been playing, forgive me, “real” cedh.
    Can someone, Brian if you have time, explain this enigma to me?
    Thanks. Great video. Very well done. I just don’t think this is quite up to “cedh standards” unless there is a different version of cedh also just called cedh and also on MTGO??
    So strange🤷‍♂️

    • @Thebrianweissman
      @Thebrianweissman  Před 7 dny

      Hey, thanks so much for reaching out with your questions. I have realized that much of the community has a totally different definition of "CEDH". On MTGO, that's a competitive 1 vs 1 format that uses the multiplayer banned list. People label their games "CEDH" when they only want to invite top tier competition. I actually don't put up that disclaimer when I host games, because I'm more interested in facing a gamut of designs rather than the same 2-3 abusive strategies over and over. It makes for better game play, and more interesting videos.
      I've changed the title of the video to reflect this realization, removing the term "CEDH" entirely. Hopefully that clears up any confusion. Happy to answer any other questions you might have.
