Nice, looks like the nickle plating holds up to the media as well, worth a mention in future.
Amazing process. Just imagine how long it would take you to strip those carbs down and get them to that condition. Easily several days hard work in the real world. OR 10 minutes in a vapour blasting cabinet. It's a no-brainer

VERY interesting process and results look GREAT in video.
I am currently rebuilding a greasy/grimy Toyota 2zz-ge engine that will be installed in a gen-3 MR2/S. I would like to have it looking like better than new when finished.
Interested in this process for cylinder head, block, and other aluminum pieces. My biggest concern in aluminum journal bearings in the head for cam-shafts. They ride on machined aluminum w/o bearings. How can I protect these surfaces?
Also plan to coat all engine parts to avoid future corrosion (looking at Yamaha marine paint).

dear sir, please could I have info on which measure of micro glass balls is used for this specific cleaning of the carburetors? is glas 170-325 suitable as an abrasive?

Sir, do you recommend using a chemical inhibitor to the blast media to prevent flash rusting of steel items? Also, and this may sound silly but wouldn't you disassemble the carb first?
Awesome job! But carburetors have a lot of tiny passages, holes and pathways for air and fuel - won't the beads get into them? Vapor honing is glass beads + water right? Thanks for answering! Best, W.
You are correct Walid, you can plug these areas, or use a High Pressure parts Washer as a post process, we also suggest, dip tanks or ultrasonic cleaners to get the abrasive out. do y'all do blasting services? I would like to have my engine and carbs on my Triumph done. I would preferably like to do it myself but dont have thousands of dollars right now or the place to put a machine. whats the typical cost to do a motor and carbs? my engine is painted from factory but I want the aluminum look. preferable polished or the dull polished look
Beautiful,but THEN comes the fun of trying to clean all the passages as good as the outside,lol,What kind/size is the abrasive?Will I have to worry that it can clog a passage?Does the solution get reused,or go down the drain?
I have to put bolts in all the holes after chasing the threads on all the motorcycle parts I bead blast (dry)so the threads don't get damaged. I notice you don't?

what compressor do you recommend I know a 7.5 80 gallon would be good, any specific brands you guys use?
The quietest compressor on the market is the silent air series compressor from polar air made by Eaton Corp. However, lower budget great compressor is a 5 Hp Ingersoll Rand SS5 pump the only downside is its noisy.
Videos would be awesome if you didn't repeat yourself so much. Quick what youre doing then just do it. Good stuff didn't stay until 4:04 in.

I'm using glass bead at 135 psi using the original sandblasting gun provided with my Harbor Fright cabinet. Ratio of 3 1/2 cups of media to 3.4 gallons water. Its not shining but rather leaving a dullish, albeit clean finish on my bike crankcases. Any idea of where I'm going wrong please?

So no caution needs to be taken when using this machine with aluminum engine cases or anything? Was worried edges where the cases meet. The portion where the gasket is.

Depending on pressure you can either clean or remove the plating

What is the mixture ratio of the slurry and what do you typically use 175-300 grit? Lets say you are using 5 gallons of water how much media would you add into that? In these machines are the Glass Bead and Water premixed together in a single tank or are they stored in separate tanks until you push the foot pedal? Sorry for all the questions but these machines fascinate me!!! Great stuff keep up on the videos you guys should do a Frame next show us how to Vapor Blast something BIG!

Thanks for the comments and keep them coming. Your ratio of media to water normally is 20-25%. The easiest way to check is doing the beaker test where you spray the water and media mixture into the beaker letting it settle to find the appropriate mixture. We normally run 20-25 gallons of water in the vapor hone with 25lbs. of media this gives us the proper ratio for processing. Yes, everything is stored in the bottom of the machine which we normally call the hopper when the pumping system comes online it will begin to mix the solution creating the slurry and pumping it to the blasting gun.

that being said - its 20-25 gallons(US) of water is 166-210lbs of water : 25lbs of media

Matthew, this is vapor blasting. In this instance this is water mixed with fine glass beads.
When using the glass bead media on carbs or bearings, is there concern for the media clogging the carb orfices or getting into the bearing races?
What type of media did you use with the water?

Nice job cleaning, but I can tell you for sure this was not a heavily corroded set of carbs...i would say you started this with a good set of carbs and and aged this a few weeks in the elements, ..this is actual heavy rust and gunk...

It doesn't clean the internal passages. You need an ultrasonic cleaner to do that.
I used a cheap harbor freight spot blaster with baking soda and it cleaned internal passages using a small compressor. I would imagine this would do just as good.
Ultrasonic cleaner really does not do a good job. Never had much luck with it. This is better.
I bet the cabinet is expensive though. I could see making a business out of this.
