In the end, Antonis forgot what he had originally went to the mountain preaching: Respect for the mountain. He let his desire for the summit overcome his knowledge that he needed to wait longer first because of the promise of good weather. To respect the mountain you must give it, and thus your body, what it demands: time to acclimate, caution, and awareness. If you fail even one of these aspects, the mountain will know.

summit fever isn't heroic. a hero is someone who turns around at his turnaround time even when he can see the summit

If there was a god that blessed people for their efforts he'd be alive then.

A seasoned, experienced climber dies on the mountain so why do the inexperienced pay 10's of thousands of dollars to climb and think they'll make it?

Who pays for all of this nonsense? I have no sympathy or rich guys doing rich guy things and causing others to risk their lives just to drag their corpses down what once was a pristine wilderness. There are too many people suffering through no fault or choice of their own. This is utterly pointless.

I pay for it. And I'm not a rich guy, just an electrician, who sacrifices a lot in day to day life to make my dreams come true. If I die on a mountain, I always tell my party to either leave me where I die or drop me down a crevasse.

They call throwing a ball a sport. Hitting a ball. Flipping in the air. Punching someone. Shooting a rifle. Knocking down pins. Driving in circles. I can keep going. I don't see how it's not a sport, seeing as it's more physically and mentally draining than any sport I know of.
