I went to high school with Marc. Watching this film was surreal for me to see what he accomplished in such jaw-dropping fashion, remembering the kid I grew up with getting into trouble n such. You'd never see him without a smile on his face. RIP my brother

Watched this last night and I want to recognize his mom and the way she raised this boy...she recognized his free spirit from a young age and embraced it..and let him be who he was from the beginning . I say kudos to her for letting this kid be all he wanted to be ..and what an inspiration he was...RIP Marc Andre.. I know you are flying high up there!!

I just watched this jaw-dropping, heart-pounding movie, and cried. It is comforting to know he lived his passion and died doing what he loved. RIP Marc.

I’ve watched the film 5 times now. I’ve never missed someone who I’ve never known, and I think humanity has a big hole in it with Marc Andre not here.
There’s no contemporary climbers that I’ve really found any connection with - Ueli Steck (RIP) sprinting up mountains, Nims conducting military operations to conquer peaks, to name two - but there was something about Marc Andre’s approach which rang real hard with me. He had such a deep appreciation and love for the mountains that was so pure and true. He wasn’t motivated by fame or glory or his ego. He did it for the experience of being, for the wonder and amazement, and for communion and oneness with the mountains. It’s fucking beautiful man, and I’m tearing up just thinking about it. What a guy.

He was tried and true. It’s amazing when a human comes along and reminds us that what we thought was possible, is reimagined. He fills me with zest and spirit just simply thinking and reading about him.
I think that many people have such an approach, so they do shitty ascents as they do not need to prove anything, so they have no sponsors and make no movies.
I just watched it FINALLY. It's heartbreaking and exhilarating, inspirational and terrifying all at once. He was such a unique spirit. Some souls are just too free spirited for this world.
I’m 50. My best friend Andrew died when I was 23 he was 21. He was a truly good guy. Didn’t give a fk about money & advancement. Did a degree in economics then instead of doing his PhD he dropped out to be a manager of a whiskey shop. Because he loved old whiskeys & meeting new people. He also happened to be a world class guitarist although he passed it off like it was nothing special. I had forgotten his Aura but this film reminded me.
There are some souls that come into this place that just aren’t made for this world. But we don’t mock them or ridicule them. Instead they remind us of what we should be. They just refuse to take part in the nonsense..
Just finished watching the Alpinist and I am awestruck, yet heartbroken. A giant of a man whose legend will live on forever.
Marc-Andre Leclerc has to be the greatest climber ever. I doubt anyone will ever actually beat him. They would be superhuman if they did. I can’t see it happening.
Just finished watching the movie and I could not resist crying while listening to his mom giving a tribute to Marc, when mountain gives birth to a mountain .
What an un-compromised existence. He found things he loved to do, and did them to an unimaginable level. In this world filled with mediocre people, doing mediocre things, and trying to become famous for it; here you have a truly awe Inspiring individual, doing absolutely incredible things, just for the love of it. I wish I could have known this kid for one day, it looks like the good vibes he radiated have touched people from around the world. Watching this movie has truly inspired me. I’m glad his story has been told for so many in the world to enjoy. We all die some day, might as well spend at least some of your time on this earth, actually living.

You could just tell that he was 100% genuine. Not a bit of artiface or ego about him. He didn't care about "likes" or social media fame.
I saw this last night. Maybe this kid was the best there’s ever been! - The thing that struck me with this film though was his funeral. 100s of people from all over the world felt enough for him to come to another country for his funeral. That shows me all I needed to know about how decent & genuine he was.
He would have redefined fire climbing had he lived. Rip Marc 🪦

The alpinist doc about this amazing young man moved me in a way I can't explain.. He was an amazing Individual. I could live 10 lifetimes and not achieve what he had..
I feel the same. He is not the only climber, nor is this the only movie I have watched. I think my thought quest was to identify how I felt about a legacy for him. The rope sticks in my mind but is only a clue to something deeper. I felt the awe of his talent in the same way I feel the awe of a sunset in the mountains. That is the thought that brought me closure.

I must have watched The Alpinist a dozen times. Blown away is an understatement. The world was a better place with Marc in it. So sad to see how it ended but he lived life on his terms and went out doing what he loved albeit much too soon. So much respect and admiration for how he lived his life not to mention his out of this world accomplishments as a climber.
I just watched ‘The Alpinist’ today. It fill me with inspiration, love, awe, inspiration. And then it broke my heart. I will watch it again one day. But it has left me so sad. I just watched ‘The Alpinist’ today. I did not know the end. The documentary filled me with inspiration, love, awe, exhilaration, I squealed at my partner with excitement to see what Marc-Andre was achieving. And then it broke my heart. I will watch it again one day. But the sadness in my heart for his loss is too much to watch it again for a fair while. I feel this huge sense of loss for someone I never met, Marc-Andre Leclerc. What an irreplaceable beautiful human being. What an Amazing life he lead. He was the bravest person in the world. 🙏💔💔💔💔❤️🩹❤️🩹❤️🩹

It was absolutely beautiful to see a human live life so wonderfully. Marc, your departure may have felt premature, but your life was filled to the brim. Rest easily, and keep chasing mountains ❤️
For what my opinion is worth:
I watched and found myself relating to and just liking Marc. I am at a much later stage of life than he, but have so much respect for anyone rising to this caliber of their passion. My greatest tribute to this young man is to envy those blessed to have seen and known him. He more than inspired, he resonated "Do what you love and love what you do."

I'm from a small city in Illinois. Ive been watching the Netflix title "The Alpinist". I now reside in NM, and I trail walk with my teenage son, small foothills at the very most vertical. It gets harrowing for me on these molehills. I watched this guy and got a lump in my throat and teary-eyed at the rawness of his commitment and just the joy that his solo climbs brought to him. I'm not an avid outdoorsman by any stretch of the imagination, but man......the skill and perfection of what he accomplished, in the shadows of the limelight. I'm really at a loss for words for what I saw. The humbleness, like a walk in the park attitude. This guy was special. R.I.P. Marc.
He was a truly genuine spirit. I just watched it too. There was no ego or artifice w him. He belonged to a different era in time. Free and at one w nature. Reminds me of an ald quote I saw once about a unicorn.

Such a special human with amazing talent. His attitude was always uplifting, and his sense of adventure and connection to nature was admirable. It's a shame how he died and his loved ones must still be reeling from losing him. If you haven't seen The Alpinist definitely watch it because it's awesome.
Marc-Andre has inspired me to get my life back on track and will forever be an inspiration to everyone who sees & hears his story. MA will live in in our hearts & spirits as we all continue to adventure!

I dont Know Marc personally, but I feel like if he had to choose, he wouldn't want to die any other way than on the mountains. He felt truly home to mountains and now he will literally be there forever. He will rest where he felt most alive. I wish he was still here though, he is such an inspiration to me.

Watching this great and fearless athlete climbing these terrorfying dangerous mountains grabbed me. In the end he tragically died but he truly lived his life to the fullest, climbing was his life and hopefully he can do that in heaven too. This is absolutely a breathtaking beautiful documentary.
I am amazed what an amazing human being he is. It's a real pity he was lost young, but that adventurous legend will always be eternal.

10 minutes into the Netflix documentary I knew Marc wouldn't live to see 30. The only real surprise was that he didn't die while free-soloing. He DID die because he was constantly attempting alpine climbs in tiny weather windows. But at least he lived a full life and died doing what he loved most.

Awesome documentary. Had never heard of Marc before but after seeing some of those ice walls he was solo climbing I had a feeling the film was going to end the way it did unfortunately. So insanely dangerous, the fact he climbed so many ice walls successfully seems unreal
His ability to climb so effortlessly was just incredible. I have seen the movie and am devastated for his girl, mother and family. He lived his life as he wanted; full of adventure and joy. He was never dead inside like so many of us who never take risks. Goodnight sweet boy, you are now an immortal climbing to your heart’s content for all eternity.
considering that he was basically the best in the world at what he did ..what comes across in the movie is that he was such a humble guy.. such a beautiful soul

@@gaz4840 I actually didn't find Ballard's story as inspiring as it seemed like he was on a low-key suicide mission going to the mummery spurr, "the suicide route", on Nanga Parbat in WINTER. with a what seemed like a pretty delusional and dangerous climbing partner. The Last Mountain gave me a sense of dread watching because Tom's story felt pretty tragic in that he seemed like a tormented soul and to some extent angry underneath and burdened. It wasn't like watching Marc which gave me a sense of awe and wonder
Marc-Andre Leclerc has left a true legacy of self being with the best of his knowledge... Left a clear message for everyone like him to follow while chasing their dreams...

I watched the movie and all I have to say is that’s a life liven with no regrets. There was no other way for him to go out than while truly doing what he loved. Very very inspiring.
I think he went too soon, and I think there was so much more he wanted to accomplish. That was saddening. But he squeezed in 25 years what more than most mountain climbers do in a lifetime.

What an amazing story
I watched The Alpinist last night. Marc Andres was such a beautiful soul. Let's destigmatize ADHD. these people often excel in other ways beyond traditional mores. SO INSPIRING. Awe 💖 my 7 year old son was just diagnosed with ADHD. he is wild and free and creative.
The worst part about this is the fact that almost all of his climbs are undocumented which absolutely sucks. RIP Marc-André Leclerc.
His girlfriend is so strong… the fact that she kept her cool and added onto his legacy was amazing… she said if he broke a leg he would find a way down, but she knew him too well and she knew he was gone. I hope her life goes well, and she finds her way.

4. you need freedom every day in your life
5. there is no better feeling than feeling small in a big world.

You have become a mountain legend. You did came to travel this Earth fast as light do.
ALPINIST knew why it is better to climb alone.

It's crazy to think that he didn't die from a fall the way you might suspect but potentially from an avalanche towards the end of his feat. 😔

I teared up watching the Alpinist. I can't say why.. not like I'm anything like him. I don't even believe in good people or pure souls. Those are just labels. But it was almost like watching a pet die (not to condescend) because the dude was pure Id. Like a joyful impulse put on this shitty world to remind us of how weak we are worrying about buying that new car...the dude lived the way philosophers only write about...

He had to go through all the climbing, what a amazing person. NOBODY can EVER be like him in the future. He’s crazy, but crazy awesome. I cant believe he was so relaxed while climbing. He even climbed on one of the mountains I most fear. RIP Marc.
Yep he was unique as a human being, as an Alpinist I would say threre are at least 30 guys on that level. Sadly a lot of them die young like David Lama and Auer who were at the most elite levels of Alpinism there is. A lot of these mountaineers have great characters
@@listrahtes There isn't 30 guys on Marc's level, not even close. If there was we'd have 30 movies just like the alpinist. There isn't even one at the moment I'd say in terms of his full package. He made the jaws of some of the boldest soloists in the world drop with his audacity. If you make Alex Honnold of all people marvel at your fearlessness at some of the stuff you're doing you're not exactly just one out of a few dozens. Are there climbers that are as technical as him? Sure. Are there any that are both as technical, well rounded, fearless and who can put it all together like he did at that age on such difficult terrain? And not just in theory who is actually doing it right now? I can't think of any.
I have more respect for the guys that don’t fall and die. He’s obviously not the best because he’s dead. The ones that are still alive and doing what he does is who I respect. The are alive. He sucks and they don’t

This movie spoke to me in so many ways ….I was the same in school . Hated it . And no 9 to 5 for me . He had a great mother and great 25 years on this earth.

Marc-Andre Leclerc didn't make any mistake in his art any more than an artist who is outside working on a painting when an airliner crashes into the artist, explodes and obliterates him/her. Sometimes one is just in the wrong place at the wrong time, fate intervenes and there is nothing you can do about it.
RIP Ryan Johnson and Marc-Andre Leclerc for following your dreams and aspirations. You're both an inspiration for us mere mortals. Thank you.
