      The online non-online thing is the biggest thing holding me back from getting one these bad boys they have many pro’s and con’s but like you said if they just had waited until they were fully ready then it would be so much better and also that HATE how theirs little to none contact w/ the company and updates as well … I’m going to wait until the features are actually there

      Well, today is Day 30 since I I placed my order via A1U. And Round 2 isn’t expected to ship until next month. I watched your video on Day 22, so I had plenty of time to cancel my order 😢 already planning on selling it to the first willing person who is a more serious fan than myself, but that seems like an insult. I only wanted it to finally have MSH and COTA since I walked away from their cabinet w/The Punisher for $200 two years ago. But yeah, a functional version of MvC2 would be nice cherry on top.

    This is probably the best honest review on an A1U I’ve seen. Glad to see you are giving more in-depth. This is from a customer. Not a “shill”. Good work on this Doug. I hope more in the “community” will follow this lead.
    That said, you are completely right with every assessment you made on the company as far as product quality and addressing consumers. I don’t believe John D is a good “face” for a company.

    Great review. This is the first A1up cabinet I’ve bought in years. I had so many issues with wave 1 that I just left them alone, but like everyone else I had to have MVC2. It seems like A1up hasn’t learned a thing and they’re still up to the same old shenanigans. Either people will stop supporting or a better competitor will enter the marketplace. Thanks for your review.

    There’s some reasons why I still have the Dreamcast versions of Marvel Vs. Capcom 1 & 2 after all of these years.
    1.) They’re incredibly hard to find nowadays.
    2.) Those versions are *truly* Arcade perfect (aside from maybe the HD versions on Xbox 360 & PS3, though they’re digital download only).
    This is a good, honest, detailed review that you’ve given unlike the others. It also saved me a _lot_ of money! 💰

    What a great, honest review. I was going to be ready to shell out 600 for this cabinet (being my first one), but this honest review gives me comfort in holding out and pushing away that FOMO. I love MvC2 with a passion and was looking forward to online play, but will stick to my other emulation for now. I'm also hoping that MvC2 gets re-released on consoles, I can then die happy!

    Thank you so much for your review. It's brutally honest regarding the quality control and most importantly, the review itself is coming from someone that has actual experience and knowledge on how MvC2 (and AC games in general) were distributed/installed in arcades and pizza parlors the world over.
    With all that in mind, I am yet again underwhelmed and disappointed with Arcade 1UP cabs. They have not gotten a single cabinet "right" and have fumbled with delivering an authentic experience on every single one of their cabs. Whenever I'm at Best Buy, I'm always eager to try their Arcade 1UP stations thinking, "it's been a few years and I know that they've listened to the criticisms", only to be disappointed yet again with their subpar joysticks, horrible buttons and most egregious at all, horrible emulation on a low tier "gaming" monitor. Seriously! Who at Arcade 1UP approved a 14ms monitor for a FIGHTING GAME cab?????

    CoolToy back from the grave. Welcome back, I miss watching your videos. That's unfortunate about about your cab, the same thing happened to my big blue SF. I got my cab as well, but all I used out of the box was the pcb and the molded coin door. I didn't have any midway style cabs in my arcade, so I opted for a different route. I wanted to replicate a big blue MVC2 as I remembered it in the arcades, back in the early 2000's. I picked up a used Big Blue and threw the mvc2 guts into that cab. I got custom side art, marquee and bezel artwork coming soon. It's gonna be an exciting project...

  • @cjd82187
    @cjd82187 Před rokem +9

    Great review! I was really tempted to make this my first A1Up, just because the fact that they “freed” MvC2, but it really just looks flimsy. I built my own pedestal style arcade which I need to fix the wobble on (hobbyist woodworker) but this looks even worse.
    Also, at 600 bucks it shouldn’t need new buttons, have poor input lag, and game slowdowns. The lack of online when something like fightcade exists makes this really not seem worth it to me.
    It does seem to have a nice games list and looks good, and I have read about some updates coming out (cross play between other marvel cabs) but this seems like it’s not the product for me unfortunately.

    Great review and insight on the cabinet. As for the delay in the online play, I was one of those that gave A1UP the benefit of the doubt when they said this cabinet was not supposed to be released until November or NFL Blitz was not supposed to be released until Mid-Oct, so that is why it was missing features and such.
    However, I have started to change my stance on this. Arcade1up has to do better with these releases. If A1UP is stating that the stores are breaking and embargo, they have to hold them accountable, but I think that is not the case. It is A1UP sending them out early and expecting companies to sit on them, which is not going to happen. Think A1UP needs to wait before shipping them to retailers if they do not want them putting them out on the floors or shipping them.
    I really like A1UP and want them to succeed, but as you said they are 4 years into this and need to get their act together when i comes to releases like this.

    • @cooltoy
      @cooltoy  Před rokem

      That story that Arcade1up tried to sell people about retailers jumping the gun was just that, a story, told to customers to placate them and pass blame. Arcade1up is in absolute control of when retailers can acquire their merchandise. Arcade1up never set street date embargo’s on these new releases, they haven’t done that since their very first wave of cabinet releases 4 years ago.
      It’s flat out insulting someone at Arcade1Up would think it was ok to say such a silly and easily debunked statement.

    Excellent review Doug! It'll be interesting to see how far a1up continues down this path. To have such rampant and continuous quality control issues, with zero communication (regard for) with thier customers, people need to stop buying their products. I stopped when my Tempest cab crapped out on me 4 times...4 times. Unacceptable imo. Appreciate your time and effort in creating exceptional content for this community.

    Now I wonder if I can find a monitor with a better response time that works with arcade1up.

    • @cooltoy
      @cooltoy  Před rokem

      There are a couple hurdles you would have to overcome. First you would need to utilize a geekworm LVDS to HDMI converter board to adapt the Arcade1UP PCB video signal into a different monitor. These converters are great when they work, but have a very high failure rate unfortunately. Secondly finding a monitor with a faster response time that is 4:3 is going to be extremely difficult, so you would likely have to adapt to a 16:9 monitor instead.

    Thank you for your honest take on this. I've noticed a pivot and promotion of late on the main A1up channels, and even some smaller ones is to focus on perceived transition to "Pro/XL" cabs. I just can't grasp this as A1up has really missed their stride of late and the last thing people should be doing is looking forward to spending even more on the eventual "Pro/XL " models. Get all the software/hardware issues and inconsistencies fixed. Make Faux coin doors stock. Better QC on marquees. Improve the quality of controls and ensure good monitors. Once they get there, and do it consistently, then focus on making a more premium Pro or XL.

    I appreciate the honesty of this review. I'm a long time MvC2 fan, and let me tell you every input frame matters, if there's any lag at all, it's not authentic and should be labeled as cheap imitation or emulation. I had a feeling this was the case, I tried the 1up cabs at a store before with Street fighter 2, and immediately noticed all the problems, from cramped controls, cheap buttons, to input lag, to how small and shaky it was, it felt like I was playing a toy version of the original cabinet with emulation, it doesn't seem like they've improved much since then. Save your $600-$800 and invest into buying a real cabinet or the Dreamcast version for home port, or any other home port and create your own cabinet may be a more viable option than this scam.

    I appreciate what arcade1up has done by bringing scaled down cabinets for home use, something we all dreamed of having when we were kids...however they are so overpriced. I remember seeing the first generation cabinets in stores and thinking the newer ones must be so much better quality with the price increases and they really aren't. Same thin vinyl that peels up, same cheap buttons. The price just keeps going up. The online with some is a nice addition, and the fact it's not an additional monthly charge, but the price jumps are crazy. First tmnt release was something like $400 and then the turtles in time was way more for the same cabinet more or less. Then stores sit on them and end up clearing them out. I got the Simpson's for $200. I don't think these cabinets are worth much more than $350-400 with how cheap and few components they have. The Simpson's cabinet was my dream cabinet to own and was really happy when 1up made it and even happier that it went on clearance. I gutted it and upgraded everything to make it play thousands of games.

    • @ProWrestlingGamer
      @ProWrestlingGamer Před 6 měsíci

      To the average person who can't mod due to lack of knowledge, these cabs will always be junk. I bought Yoga Flame and will be soft modding it. I won't be hard modding it because I want to keep the online play. As a massive street fighter 2 fan, losing online play isn't worth 1000s of games I'll never play. I'm gonna upgrade the sticks and buttons too

  • @Wolfanoz

    Great objective review brother. Sadly owning five previous cabs (and good ones), the future doesn't look so bright for them with their current QA matters and rushing things out the door and FOMO tactics (granted, usual modern day retail tactics) when they show up in all sorts of stores weeks later.

    • @cooltoy
      @cooltoy  Před rokem +5

      the FOMO nonsense is out of hand. They tried to tell people "pre-order now this will be super limited and you won't be able to get it if you wait". Then it was available day after day at a new retailer each time, and most big box stores have already fulfilled their preorders before the people that pre-ordered day 1 through Arcade1Up. It's always a mess.

  • @MG-jz3ur
    @MG-jz3ur Před rokem +3

    Well said about a1u as a company and spot on about them rushing unfinished games for q4 sales numbers, which is such a slap in customers faces. I have 8 cabs but stopped buying once they jumped in price. Quality didn’t get better and even got worse in some areas so why pay more? It’ll take a holy grail that gets good honest reviews before I buy anymore. I’ll certainly never preorder anything from them. This being a prime example why

    Loved the review, I always come here for your thoughts on this kind of stuff. My cabinet arrived over the weekend and did an unboxing vid on my channel yesterday. I am currently stress testing it myself and I will say this, this will be the last time I will preorder from Arcade1up. The experience was a disaster and you are right about their customer service, this is my second cabinet. My very first cabinet was the 1st Marvel vs Capcom and I love it but the online just died rather quick. I'm not too confident about the MVC2 online experience either now that I am looking into Arcade1up's history.

    @CoolToy, great review as always. A couple of things. First it looked like you had some shots of side panel damage or was that just wierd printing? Second, Arcade1Up's official response is retailers made this cab available earlier than the requested date of November. I think I'd give them until then before I judged the online play. Honestly I don't expect much but I'm always one to give the benefit of the doubt. Hopefully your return window extends into November.

      Yes my cabinet arrived with some scrapes and dings on the side panel artwork.

    Thank you for this review Cooltoy. SheLion's review kept me from taking this out of the box and this one has confirmed my decision. Unfortunately, since I bought my product from BestBuy, I only have 15 days to return, 5 of which have passed. They hav 5 more days to either communicate or release a patch to bring MvC2 online or else I will start the return policy. Hopefully the product not working as advertised will be enough to avoid their restocking fee. This will sadly be my last A1U purchase, as I can no longer afford to spend top dollar on three-forth-assed products that may or may not be fixed in the future. Between this and Blitz, Arcade1up has destroyed all their goodwill with myself, and many in the community. I can see why you have chosen to stop supporting and why other content creators seem to be less and less enthusiastic about making content about A1U. This was supposed to be a wish fulfillment company that allows us 80s and 90s kids to have the home arcade of our dreams for a decent price, but as the prices climb and the lack of quality continues, I feel like this might be the beginning of the end for myself and others.

But I'm probably in the minority because i already have multiple ways to place mvc2. I really just want this machine for the novelty of owning an "arcade" of mvc2, as i always wanted to own an arcade as a kid. But definitely wouldn't be surprised if many others cancel their orders or return the cabinets and it would be justified. Arcade 1up should definitely do better

I didn't pick up any of their 4-Player cabs because the lack of value I feel offered with the low count number of 4-player games on each cab, especially vs. the real estate they take up. I also didn't pick up their Terminator 2 with it's paltry 1 game offering, and frankly not concerned about a licensing nightmare. By choosing a lightgun solution over an Arcade control scheme for T2, made it ripe for additional lightgun games. Since they knew they were going the lightgun route, I would've much preferred another franchise, and fill that cabinet with a large selection of games, maybe 10 or 20 titles. That's one of the reasons I bought Buck Hunter World, after I found out it had a HUGE amount of mini game variety, beyond its main objective games, making the value soar for me. I'm now watching iiRcade closely, seeing what they can contribute to the lightgun space. With their cabinet's ability to download new games, I hope this will be my main home arcade's lightgun solution.
    I've been a huge proponent of biding my time, waiting for cabs that really speak to me before making a purchase. Arcade1up has lost a lot of sales from me with their track record of cutting corners and not showing the true respect these games deserve (or at the very least, making them a value proposition for me). I know that won't cause them to lose sleep at night, but if the value's not there, my wallet's not opening.
    Thanks again, as always, for your candid, and not pulling punches, thoughts!

      Terminator 2 was such an odd cabinet release. 1 game, and some behind the scenes footage you would find on a dvd from 2005 isn't what I would call a huge value when compared to Big Buck Hunter. Which like you said, has loads of mini games to increase its own value. And to make matters worse Arcade1Up was charging even more on T2 but delivering less than what they offered with Big Buck Hunter. I want this company to succeed because I love seeing the resurgence of arcade gaming, but I'm not going to blindly throw my money at a company when they refuse to learn from their mistakes or adapt to consumer feedback. I don't know if it's arrogance or ignorance, or a combination of the two, but Arcade1Up seems dead set in their ways and doesn't seem to want to change.

      Cooltoy,
      I think you hit the nail on the head. Change. And real change. Not fake molded coin doors, light up deck protectors, or stools change, but acceptable and decent controls, and rock solid gameplay change. I want quality and not trinket tin signs :) That's why I'm so glad we have competition in the market now. I'm SO HAPPY we have iiRcade and I also love my Rec Room Masters cab and my MVSX. I will always be grateful that Arcade1up opened the door, but if others knock with better deals, Arcade1up will have to sit on their subpar products when it comes to me :)

    Nice thorough objective review. 2 marquee cabs released within a month of each other with ADVERTISED online multiplayer. To not have it working at release is really dishonest, and as you mentioned,the fact there is nothing on their official media is disheartening as a consumer. $600 is too much to spend for an obvious selling feature to be missing. We saw how long it took to get pinball patched. 🙁

    They're weird on updates. They did an update for the ms pac man stand up that adds dip switches and a sharp pixels option, but no updates on the cocktail version.
    But this coming with online advertised and it not being there is not good. But I'd also figure you could just play MVC2 on fightcade and get a better experience.

    Despite the flaws, I've been unable to get a near perfect version going in my modded Marvel cab from years ago so this is still going to end up being a purchase for me. I still have my DC and the game with an Agetec stick to boot, but I want the full package experience without needing to dedicate those to another cab exclusively either. Online isn't a selling feature for me as it does not represent those nights with a crowd of 20+ people watching me and others duke it out live in person. I think with some Sanwa button upgrades and perhaps an HD marquee replacement, this would more than satisfy what I'd want out of this cab.

  • @truthinentertainment1028

    I am coming back to this review after doing the control panel mod to see which of the packaging material you used. It is a great idea, but you should definitely go with the 1/8" material on the squares and NOT the 3/16" shown here in order to get it really flush. Just peel the 1/8" material off one of the squares and you will have the material you need.

  • @Balleroc
    @Balleroc Před rokem +3

    You will need to replace the panel with a wide panel, the buttons and joystick. The stock ones are not responsive enough to maintain any sort of quick play combos like Magneto’s infinite or Sentinel’s fly on/off etc. Combos are dropped all the time for a frustrating experience. This cabinet should have come with premium parts from Sanwa, Seimitsu or IL. I’m a diehard MVC2 fan, very disappointed in this cabinet but committed to making it work so I bought all the replacement parts for another $500 which included the wider panel buttons from Seimitsu and Sanwa high tension joysticks

I am not regretting my purchase because I wanted this cab to replace my mvc1 regardless so I could have mvc2 and COTA, but after having pre-ordered both blitz and mvc2 I dont see myself pre-ordering any other cabs going forward.
