    March 2023 update: Like I said in the video, I just wanted to do this mod just to see if I could do it. It was incredibly fun to do, and playing on it was also fun. A buddy and I had some great times with it. However, it's just a little too small for me to play comfortably, and it was just a bit too big to justify keeping it in my office. I sold it to a guy that has a small kid. They're having a lot of fun with it, and no doubt creating some great memories together.

    This video brings back memories when I bought my A1up SF2 cabinet back in November 2018. I believe ETA Prime A1up mod video came out early 2019 and that started a craze for modding these cabinets. It also helped a lot that everything was plentiful and cheap back in 2019.

    Yessss it is worth it. I did mine about 3 years ago. I also put a sega dreamcast i mine with VGA switch and extension cables to the control ports
    I will say this, i didn't get to really having fun with my machine until I eliminated thousands of games and did a top 300. Much better only seeing classics and games I love instead of 20k games.

    Mine was absolutely worth it. I got the Final Fight cab in 2019 and it did lose its novelty pretty quick, and was collecting dust. I saw ETAprime's video and knew thats what I wanted to do with my cab. 2 years ago I modded it with a Raspberry Pi 3B, got a new control deck with 6-button control layout, LED light strip on the back, and used a set of logitech speakers and subwoofer for sound. I put my favorite arcade, Neo-Geo, NES, and SNES games on it and I really love it. It is especially fun with 2 players, of course. By the way, Command Strips velcro tape worked for me as far as mounting everything.

    Great video! I modded one of my Arcade 1up cabinets so I could play my video game consoles on it. I've got my PS2, PS3, PS4, Wii, Xbox360, Xbox One X, Dreamcast and a laptop (for fightcade) hooked up to it. Had to put a shelf next to the cabinet to hold everything. I just like being able to play my games on the cabinet, it was fun to get it all working.

    Travis, this is a good video. The content is clear, straightforward, moves from point to point and is well-considered even though I have only a passing curiosity in the subject. For me, I would want the old Nintendo games - Donkey Kong, DigDug and Defender. Robotron was unhinged but requires two mounted joysticks per player.
    Your mounting problem reminds me of the mounts people make for speaker crossovers. A piece of scrap board and some wood screws would take care of it. ✌️

At the time the raspberry pi 3b+ was cheap and i just added arcade fighting games and beat em ups. I carved out holes for extra speakers and to answer ur question i use thumb tacks instead of tape. I plan to add a functioning coin door in the future. It was fun to mod and now it sits proudly in my living room. Definetly worth it.

    I bought a marvel vs capcom brand new for 550. Sold the guts off for 450 (the wifi game was extremely rare and hard to find, which worked out to my benefit) had an older asus desktop that a family member was tossing out, a friend gave me his old arcade x tank controller to replace the buttons and sticks. Had to buy an interface board for the monitor, a few cables, a power strip, an external power button, and an amp. Total cost less than 200 bucks invested and the side art is cool plus a matching stool.

    I just got a free TMNT (the 1st version) cab. I normally deal in full size. Some friends were taking stuff to the dump and saw it, snapped a pic and ask if I wanted it. I never even cared to deal with em. I thought I could strip it and sell it on eBay for replacement parts. It looks brand new, and plays perfect, it was just missing a power cable, a red ball top for player 4 and the dust washer, all replaced. Now I'll sit on it since they are pretty much sold out everywhere, and a bunch of the rest will suffer the same fate at the dump, or get a mod. I can put a multicade/Pi in anything.... so I figure this as a collectors toy now. Keep it unmodded, and in clean and pristine for a later sale when the the numbers of originals dwindle, and the number of new collectors grow. I always just saw them as cheap empty shells with art on them already, anyway. I never cared for the guts, but like the compact look and art. A shell only for whatever I decided to do. If I were to ever get into buying these, it would be for empty, gutted or broken ones. But, for now... it's a free thing that I'll make 800-1200 bucks on it at least in a few more years. My pedestal Picade is in the garage with the PC arcade and my full size MK1 cab. No need to mod this thing.
    Cool video, I just listened while I typed!

    Get some L brackets and mount them behind the lower brackets that mount the lcd panel to the sides of the cabinet. Get a long board to mount to those to make a shelf and screw the components to that shelf. That way you wouldn’t have to make new holes, you would just need a little bit longer screws

    Bro. Get some velcro tape. Put one side on the wall, the other side on the device you're going to mount. If you're not sure what tape to use, find a guitar store near you, and get what they have. It's what people use to mount guitar pedals to pedal boards. It'll definitely be strong enough to hold up those devices.

      It's one or the other. But, you could always just add all of those MK games on that raspberry Pi as well. The only difference is that you'll have a ton more games to check out as well.
      TBH though I would only ever wanna do this specific mod on a SF II cab, as the 6 button layout is the best all around setup for most games. With your cabinet, you'd need to drill a lot more holes per player if you wanted to play most other fighting games that aren't Mortal Kombat. Hope that helps.

      I'm only 5' 7" , I tried a 1up and even with the riser it just feels cramped. It's width also made it uncomfortable for two player stints. Fortunately for you and I, there are plenty of full size cabinet blueprints across the internet, and once you've cut both of the sides out of some nice 18mm thick wood, the width is entirely at your discretion. The problem which Travis touched on is removal of the pi if needed. We can simply build our cases with a door and slot on the front and mount it with the USB ports and ethernet exposed.
      We move house Feb-Mar. I'm going to build a cabinet then. I've already set up launchbox and retroarch on an old PC and have all the ROM's ready to go.
      But a Raspberry Pi 5 is the way to go. And either EG starts or Hikig have complete 2 player LED button and joystick kits with encoders for less than $50.

    Hi Travis, I am a new subscriber to your channel, and I wanted to know if there was a video link showing how to install Streetfighter Alpha 3 and all other Streetfighter games on my Raspberry Pi? I am not too tech savvy but I have an Arcade 1up Street Fighter 2 cabinet and I thought it would be a nice project to do. I understand putting together all the components but I am not clear how I would actually get the Street fighter games on the Pi? I await your earliest response. Thanks in advance.

      @travisbowmanmusic  Před 10 měsíci

      Hey there, thanks for subscribing, I really appreciate it. I can't show you exactly WHERE to find all of these roms, but if you search for "MAME 2003 romset", you'll find a package that has all of the Street Fighter games you're looking for. You'll have to figure out how to install them on your own. There are a ton of how to videos on installing games to the Raspberry Pi. Good luck!

    • @alanshmahlen21
      @alanshmahlen21 Před rokem

      @@travisbowmanmusic You can try any tape that's like Alien tape. They're double-sided 'gel' tapes that are supposed to be reusable. When in doubt, I just get PCB feet or stand-offs and use short wood screws. Don't go all the way through, and don't take out + put back in a lot. MDF holds screws good so long as the threads cut by the screw aren't worn out.

    For me, I wouldn't do this mod with a Raspberry Pi just because I find it to be a bit underpowered (if I'm gonna have a cabinet, I want it to be able to play Naomi games too). Instead, I'd use a mini-PC with a powerful APU like the 7735HS.

    • @travisbowmanmusic
      @travisbowmanmusic  Před 9 měsíci

      The amp is INSIDE the cabinet. If the cabinet was up against a wall, you'd have to pull it out. As another person stated, this issue can be fixed by adjusting volume settings in software. I didn't make this video to complain, but rather to let everyone know what to expect once this mod was completed.

    I need to make a riser for it as it’s too low for adult use.
    The 3 street fighter games in it are really boring.

    I just got super lucky and found a Simpsons 1up at a Walmart on clearance for $100. Just having a machine to do this project was the biggest hurdle IMO. Besides that is getting the rest of the stuff needed to modify it... More buttons, new joysticks, ect. Oh and the Pi i'm looking at has 4gbs ram and wifi.... so i assume i could add games via wifi?
