- I believe I have a home site located on the property. The previous owners put in a septic and well in the early 1980s. While it's not where I would have chosen to build a home, it's huge cost savings not to have to get them installed. The county said I can use the septic if they passes an inspection. I also built a small insulated box to protect a lithium battery from cold temps this winter. I installed an Inkbird ITC-1000F 12v thermostat and added small beehive warmers and this should do the trick to keep the battery above 32 degrees. Next step is a septic tank and drain field inspection November 6.

Let us know how well it works.
So far so good. Yesterday the temp inside the box was 55 degrees while the outside temps were in the lows 40s. Tonight the lows will be around 5 degrees. I will update after this cold spell passes. If it can get through 5 degree lows, we should be able to make the winter but we will see how it works with continuous low temps
Great. I’ll be putting in a system outside Alamosa and it gets cold there also 7600’ elevation. @@offgridco
Following along on this, I'll be doing a nearly identical box here in Kansas.
@@stromgewehr It's working great so far! uses very little power. The box plus insulation board is perfect. I need to see how it does in single digits or below zero but so far so good. :)
