In my opinion, it is advisable to lay all wires and cables under the house in a corrugated pipe or a plastic pipe. You like to have rodents, especially in winter, looking for food and gnawing on the insulation.

    You should hide your cameras
    And install decoys

I camp in the back country for about 10 days every summer. What got me doing that was I was heading back to Ks one time and decided to take a road on the map that is east of Canon City a ways and came out at Victor/Cripple creek. Saw dispersed camping along that road. Now it's kinda a sickness. As I'm coming home I am already planning for my next back country off road camping fishing trip 🤷

The hoops you have jump through to be a freeman trying to live off the land SMH. I wanted to get some land in CO but saw the amount of permits you need to do anything made me change my mind.
For your camera setup, why not use one that is Wi-Fi and charges using solar thus you can move it when you need to without needing to worry about running wire?

Yea, the struggle is real. Sure I could do it without permits but in order to have a "legal dwelling" it's by the book. Once my house is built I will have more liberty.

As for the cameras, Unifi does not yet have any outdoor rated wifi options and it would still need power and since I already have hard wires in the area the performance is more reliable on a hard wire.

@@offgridco it is actually hard to avoid permits in some areas. Even out in BFE but I have seen once you get the bare minimum like septic it is not as bad

@@offgridco wireless and wired both have their advantages and disadvantages as you know. If you are putting the camera on your dwelling running wires makes sense compared to if you wanted to put a camera down your drive way to see who is entering that might be a hundreds of feet, wireless is your best option but not a great one

@@librab103 My cabin and Starlink internet are 1000 feet away from the garage. I used a point to point wireless bridge (nano beam) between the buildings but use hard wires for all my cameras. I do use wireless cameras indoors and I do have wifi access points on either side of the bridge. It works pretty well. Thanks for the comments.

Oxymoronic bullshat. It's not off-grid if you have BUILDING PERMITS

The government has tentacles even in the middle of nowhere Colorado. We are not free.
