    Hi Doug, It looks like you have your 3 batteries tied together in parallel. FYI. Make sure that the battery cables come from opposite ends of the paralleled batteries. For example, if the positive cable comes from top left, then the negative cable should come from the bottom right. This helps each battery to drain evenly. That is, if you just run both cables from the top battery over to the inverter, the top battery will be worked harder than the bottom battery.

      Good advice, a bit less important with lithium technology, they will have internal Battery Management systems (BMS) to help maintain equally cells within each battery, but some batteries will work harder if 'laddered' and not pulled across the battery bank.

  • @chadcase5936
    @chadcase5936 Před 10 měsíci +65

    After reading many reviews and watching a lot of videos, I chose this option for my first backup power station. czcams.com/users/postUgkxHypYDKHAN93Lp2RQpfvU_ksc70wJ00pt I was between this and a larger option that could power a wider range of items, but the price/size/capacity blend seemed right for this unit. Hasn't gotten a ton of use yet, but the build quality is solid and it charges fine via the Rockpals solar panel I purchased to pair with it. One thing to note is that the screen is optimized for a top down viewing angle, which makes sense, but this means it washes out at other angles - especially low angles. Not a huge deal, but perhaps a better option for the display could be used to provide wider viewing angles.

    Mid-Missouri - All these cloudy days really suck if you have solar. For the past two weeks, ours has averaged about 15 kwh per day. Just two days were good during that time; one produced 45 kwh and one at 60 kwh ( thousand watt hours). During the summer, we will collect above 100 kwh per day. We have a 17 kwh system with 50 panels.

    Glad you got on board with a solar/battery system.
    As an electrician, your wiring at the combiner box is a little concerning. Everything is connected properly, however I would recommend some strain relief on those positive wires before they land on the breaker. At a minimum some sticky backs and zip ties to keep the weight off those terminals.
    Also, while not absolutely necessary, you might also want some bushings or grommets in those knockouts at the bottom of the box.
    I'm not trying to criticize what you're doing, just trying to be helpful and offer ways to minimize points of failure. It makes troubleshooting much easier when you do eventually have a problem.
    I love what you guys are doing. Gob bless!

    I ended up just getting an all-in-one Lithium Ion Battery Bank / generator for my van with 3 120v outlets 12v input and a few USB charging ports for around $800 instead of a gas generator, and so far it does alright for bare basic simple living and can be recharged via solar. Obviously a whole family or home would need more power but you can get ones that can handle 2000w or more and many of them can be expanded with extra batteries for longer life for people that use limited electricity.

How exciting! I know it was a lot of work and I'm so happy it finally all works!!! I'm still surprised you all haven't gotten snow yet! As I write this, we are getting dumped on and going to have -20 to -50 degrees and that's not taking into consideration wind chill. Here in NW MT we've been hit hard since the first part of November. Friends of mine live just south of the Canadian boarder and are expecting -70 with the wind chill 🥶. Stay safe and warm! Happy Hanukkah!🕎

    A few things needed for off grid use: 1) Buddy Heaters 2) propane 3)propane backups 4) gas for generators 5) small generator 6) solar panels 7) inverter 8) 12V battery bank with wiring. 9) Heavy duty wire from common solar panel hub.. (panels can have 14 or 16 gauge wire, but once they go to a hub or are all spliced together, you need to keep that wire #10 or even #8 if any distance.. 10) water tubs (possibly a swimming pool 11) water filters 12) roof gutter system to save water.. 13) root cellar or dugout for cold storage 14) a small freezer 15) with a timer to come on during daylight of the Solar cycle.. 15) black or dark heat collection pipes or tape to cause temps to rise during daylight and help save heating costs during winter.. (a small 12 V or 120 Volt pump to circulate water.. 16) large 5 gallon water containers (can be refilled at certain stores for cheap if you can't wait on filtration 17) windows facing south to collect heat in daytime with black taped water objects, etc. (a room that is seldom used can have a large black object placed in the Sunlight... black taped windows if no light needed.. etc.. 18) matches or lighters 19) trashcans or tubs with lids for storage of foods to keep mice away.. 20) gardens 21) animals 22) a dog to scare critters away.. 23) a gun and ammo 24) a 4 wheel drive truck for winter travel 25) fishing poles, etc.. 26 ) traps for groundhogs or racoons 27) wood chip piles 28) compost piles 29) wheel barrows and.... 30) tools such as battery powered drills, saws, chainsaws, circular saws and much more..

    Thanks for the info, Doug. I'm thinking of investing in a portable solar system. To relieve these high electric rates. Just enough power to run a few electric heaters and back up for fridge and freezer. ROI is important to me, but portability, as who knows where I'll be, has always been my most important goal. Portable fencing, portable fridge, portable appliances...But that's just me :)

    Hi Doug,
    Years ago I left you a comment and recommended you get solar and you weren't interested then. Am glad you finally got some help to get your system to set it up properly. Here is something you might want to consider: If you don't already have an AC load center in your cabin you might want to install one. It makes it easy to connect up all of your electrical loads, outlets and lights with breaker protection and is required to meet the national electrical code. I recommend a 120/240 VAC 200 amp load center; it is large enough to meet any future need you might have and is fairly inexpensive.
