People are dying in hospital queues because of understaffed hospitals and housing prices are sky rocketing. Sweden is far from a good country atm. Denmark and Finland are doing waay better.

As a high functioning autistic person, thank you for that Carlos interview. Growing up, therapy always felt like egotistical morons trying to get me to act more like them. It was so depressing. This interview frames my childhood experience beautifully.

Just wanted to add to the Carlos convo that some would say he isn't helping children with autism. ABA therapy is widely criticised and many consider it to be harmful to people with autism. I am a special needs teacher so I work with autistic kids a lot, though I am not a therapist. I have heard from social workers and parents I work with that ABA has very negative effects.
A lot of times it's the application that's the problem, mainly that it's not focused on helping people who are autistic, but making them seem "normal". I do agree that in the majority of cases, it doesn't need to be applied, particularly of the individual can understand verbal commands and questions (some can't, or a limited amount). I don't doubt you, I just feel like it's a tool being used wrong rather than being inherently bad.
(My mom cowrote a book about ABA and my sibling is autistic and I very much might be too given that some characteristics fit my issues, we've both had ABA and it helped us, since I have ADHD I also found some benefit as a teen, and my sister learned to communicate through it... saying this just so you don't think I'm merely talking out my ass to someone who works with autistic folks).
Had the same exact thought and went looking for this comment. It’s also dated to say that behaviors of autism need to be “fixed”. It’s hard because it does work for some, while being abused by others. Autism is such a sliding scale.
Hi I'm a part-time RBT who does ABA therapy. I started in July and have been loving it so far. I am interterested why you think ABA is harmful- you have more experience than me, so I am just curious! I work very closely with my families to make sure we are working on skills that they find valuable, and I make my own activities and games to make sure my clients are having fun while learning. I understand that ABA seems to be making "cookie cutter" children, but when done correctly, I have seen clients make great progress in their social interactions and confidence.

Worth mentioning that ABA Therapy, the stuff Carlos teaches is pretty controversial within the autism community as it’s about changing the person’s “autistic behaviours” in order for them to appear normal. All this achieves is autistic people start to mask who they are and don’t get any help with being who they are and how to live live a happy healthy life.
