    there's such a big thick line between having a kid crush on an adult and the adult playfully playing into it a little so as not to break his heart, and having her clearly return the feelings. they had to put so much effort and planning into crossing that line its crazy

      @jessicastjames6202 Před rokem +248

      Even "playfully playing into it" is still completely and utterly unacceptable. Any child with a crush on an adult needs to be immediately and very firmly shut down and redirected. It needs to be made extremely clear that, while the romantic feelings are a normal part of growing up, it is not ever okay for a child to have a relationship like that with an adult.
      "Adults reciprocating your feelings is fine and normal" is a REALLY REALLY BAD THING to teach children for reasons that should be extremely obvious lol. Doesn't matter if it's "only a little" so you don't "break their heart".

    • @laceyrainbolt5432
      @laceyrainbolt5432 Před měsícem

      @@OwlBardthe most generous guess i can give is that they wanted their teen girl audience to be able to relate to/see themselves in the main character while she lives out the fantasy of falling in love with a hot guy. with few exceptions men in their 20s are better looking than teenage boys, and it isn’t uncommon at all for teen girls to celebrity crush on adult men and imagine romantic relationships with adult men. so it’s like a self insert fanfic. not that disney should have played into or normalized this of course!
      in the tv shows and also many of the movies at the time they portrayed age appropriate relationships, but in some of the movies they portrayed the hot mature dude who sweeps you off your feet, which is a fantasy and not a realistic scenario. so maybe they thought about it that way, like the viewer could also distinguish fantasy and reality, but of course their audience isn’t going to be that critical or discerning so in the end it doesn’t matter. i don’t see why they couldn’t have made, say, camp rock with nick jonas as the love interest instead of joe, but nick jonas definitely had a different/younger image at the time and i guess that just isn’t what they were going for.
      there are also restrictions for working with minor actors that don’t exist for adults, so it’s probably easier production and budget wise to have as few minors in the film as possible. plus adults are usually better actors than teens, so it’s just easier for them to cast an adult. in the end it’s all financially motivated, because that’s more important to them than portraying healthy examples of relationships for teen girls in every single movie.

      That doesn’t take away from the fact it was uncomfortable for Dunst (also worth mentioning her full quote "At that point I was a little girl, and he was like a brother to me," Dunst said. "And it was very weird even though it was a peck. I was just very not into it. Other than that I was treated like a total princess on that set.")

    Kid has a crush on an adult: happens irl, kinda cute?, probably a good subject to actually deal with responsibly as it's often part of growing up
    Said adult encouraging the kid in any shape or form: *No.*

      @@mide8845 I know I’m very late but a really good example of this is that prior to 2013 the FBI recognized r @ pe as “carnal knowledge of a FEMALE forcibly and against HER will,” it didn’t just not mention men it explicitly used female and her clearly trying to imply that only women can be raped. To add when this was fixed the gender ratio for r @ pe perpetrators (the stats were collected by the FBI BTW) tripled that year with it going from 1% of guilty verdicts have a female perpetrator to 3% of guilty verdicts having a female perpetrator. Thankfully it has been “fixed” (at least in terms of the raw definition) but like a lot of social issues that we’ve “fixed” the effects left behind from these downright despicable and gross decisions still show to this very day.
