    That was such a walk down memory lane. I was a Internal Quality Auditor in a large private telecoms company working firstly under BS5750 then ISO9000. Our annual Accreditation inspections by BSI sound exactly like your NIC format. All Pre digital records so that pile of documents was a standard practice to show the extent of work we did. The weakest link were the chats with a randomly selected employee in a particular work stream to describe a task against our defined work process flows. They tended to get brain freeze when questioned and our job was to coax them to start breathing again to give the reasonable answer. Yes the inspectors tried not to frighten them and in the end it worked out fine. We were pretty clean of real problems but the inspectors always had one or two minor observations of non compliance and it usually needed just a resolution document sent to them so they could show they did their job and not just swanning in and signing off the accreditation. Happy Days.

    Well that's nice to know, I have never had a missed visit from the NIC EIC. Had one last year just before lockdown 1.0 and one again this year a couple of months ago. There are more and more contractors registered now and in the last four years have had three different assessor's. My usual one semi retired and now they are so busy, plus now having Elecsa merged with them proper (which I am sceptical about) doesn't help. But if you're doing it right then there's never a problem. No one knows everything especially in this game but if you keep up to date and do a good job you're sorted. You've got to be pretty confident if you're going to show your work on CZcams anyway. Calc card.... Why don't you have a tester????? And why wouldn't you get your tester calibrated???? I have two multi function testers and two check box testers and get them calibrated alternate years. For the cost why wouldn't you do it.....🤯

    Hmm, I’m not an electrician, but aware of some issues. How are the £75 EICR certificate companies managing to jump through the hoops and carry on trading? Or are the masters of paperwork confusion.?

    Did Electricians in the U.K. in the past have to get each of their major works inspected fully, prior to being signed off by an inspector? That's the way it is here in New Zealand.

  • @amarcy5369
    @amarcy5369 Před 3 lety

    Hi Jordan The NIC are part of an electrical contractor life , in my experience the better you are the more likely you are to experience an in depth experience . Why because they are going to see so called contractors that are so of the required standard they are at a loss as to what to do . So that puts the governing body in a tricky situation . Deregister the offenders and lose revenue or make recommendations for improvement , yes we all know how it ends up . I like you have lost sleep at night because of an impending visit, yet have full knowledge of other companies that don’t give a rats Ars as to the assessment 🤣👍👍👍

      If you are determined then quit what you are doing and get the grades you need. Then find a contractor that will take you on.
      Alternatively ask your college if you can do your current one and a maths or physics qualification at the same time (I’m guessing this is what you are missing).

    I have had several inspectors over the years and on a whole they are ok, back when I joined they were a charity, which was their get out of jail card when I moaned about the fee.
    Fast forward a few decades and they are now this corporate monster, that can't gobble enough money.
    The trouble with them and the other bodies is, they don't care about the quality of work, look at the crap some of their members turn out, and they are still registered.
    I used to worry when I had my visit, doesn't bother me now, especially seeing the rubbish I come across on a daily basis.

    NIC not the golden goose it once was. Standards have dropped since it became a business operation.
    How companies test 5 houses or 50 circuits a day, and get away with it, is simply mind bending. Not very inspiring when you see the sh1te some companies and organisations get away with.
