    I got this printer after watching the review video you posted a while back. This was my first personal printer, I have few at work that cost much more but this one is my favorite. As a starter or for people like me that like to print huge items this is the one to go with. Thanks for the initial advice, you did not steer me wrong on this one. Keep up the great work and I hope you find someone to continue giving great advice and reviews

    The first printer I bought back in 2020 was a longer LK4, which too, was a great deal for its size and print volume. I had great experiences with it and have since replaced it with the LK1 which has the same print volume as the LK5. Planning on keeping this brand on my equipment list for some time to come. And if LONGER is watching, looking forward to an SLA offering larger than the Orange 10 and 30. Thanks for the video 👍👍

    I bought a used Longer LK5 Pro for $250 that had only been used to print one model. For the most part I'm pretty happy with it however one serious bit of advice for anyone considering buying one themselves, make sure you get the upgraded one with the dual fan equipped hotend (2 parts cooling fans and one hotend cooling fan), the standard 'base' only has one parts cooling fan and a fairly small hotend cooling fan. This results in some errors in many prints opposite the side the parts cooling fan is on, almost like the plastic is being blowen away from the fan as it hardens. Also might want to invest in the dual Z axis kit that Longer offers.

    Quite honestly... Even with it's dated tech... Prusa is still the best out of the box printer. I print.. pla... Petg... Tpu... Abs.... Carbon fiber filaments... It will do it all.
    Build volume isn't large, but it isn't small. Prusa still is the go to printer that flat works and doesn't limit you on filament choices

    I've had the Longer LK5 pro for over a year now and as a novice its been pretty good. Your positivity for the unit reassures me that the issues I keep having are on my end and not the printer. I have exclusively printed in PLA and most filaments work good but for some reason some just won't stick, even if its the same brand but a different color. Also I could never get a print to stick without a raft until I added BuildTak to the baseplate. I assume its issues with my Cura settings but I've tried quite a few different settings and still have issues

      Probably the printer. I had no issues to start but then the metal heat bed warped and now it is impossible to level. All four corners are too high and the center is still touching the nozzle. Longer support is the most abysmal I have ever dealt with.

  • @hyksos2
    @hyksos2 Před rokem +149

    First of all, if they give you printers you are technically sponsored. The fact that you can't name a single negative point or limitation mean you have a big bias because of this sponsoring. If you only print with PLA it might be a good choice. But what about PETG, TPU, ABS? Max nozzle temp of 250C and max bed temp of 75C really limit you and should be mentioned.

    • @ClintonCaraway-CNC

      @jasenking4092 Před rokem +3

      The LK 5 Pro prints all those filaments without any issue. Of course you have to be smart and use the proper nozzle for the different filaments. I have a print that has been going for 87.5 hours with no issues. I bought mine and I will buy only Longer going forward.

    • @_MicZ_
      @_MicZ_ Před rokem +3

      @@jasenking4092 Seriously ? Have you tested all of those filaments ? PETG should be fine, but TPU without direct drive is always problematic and ABS just needs higher temperatures (and an enclosure). Doesn't mean this is a bad printer, a lot of bedslingers don't support these filaments (although their product page says they do).

    • @_MicZ_
      @_MicZ_ Před rokem +1

      A crazy limitation for cooling is the absurd choice for an axial fan as the part cooling fan.
      Using a radial fan for this is a standard for a reason, a radial fan just generates MUCH more airflow.
      An axial fan is just the wrong part for the job...

    Hi! Nice review of the printer. I have one Longer LK5 Pro, and I must say it has some limitations. I know it's also a 300 dollars/euros machine, so accepted them as being part of a budget machine. Issues: Extruder is single gear and not all metal one. Single lead screw. Poor cooling out of the box, but Longer sell a replacement (maybe its included in the printer these days). Noisy, the fans are loud and they don't turn off when printer is idle. Firmware, is old and slow do be released. No automated bed leveling tool, that for a big bed like this one is essential. Hotend limited to 250c. Almost zero support (at least this was my experience). I made a lot of modifications and fixed the issues above, and its ok, I use it for big projects due to the big print bed a Z height. But for a first printer I wouldn't recommend it, since you must have already some skill to identify issues and then fix them.

    After printing with this style glass bed(had 3 printers with it) I can safely say a double sided PEI with textured on one side and smooth PEI on other is far superior to this glass setup. Easy to pop off after a print but never have edges of a print even consider lifting no matter if it's PLA, PETG or ABS. For PA CF I suggest glass with glue stick. I use the smooth back side of the carborundom glass as it's easy to clean glue off between PA CF prints.

    I bought this printer based on your recommendation and could not be more disappointed. The metal heat bed is severely warped making it impossible to level or print on, and longer support is non existent.
    Even if you dont open the package and want to return the product they will not give a full refund. If you open it and find out it doesnt work, they will take a larger portion. If something goes wrong ane you want to warranty a specific part like a warped heatbed, they will ghost you. Now I'm forced to go through the Consumer Protection Bureau to hopefully get any kind of resolution.

    I really like your vids, and you have been one of the YT'ers instramental in helping me get started in this hobby. However, I have to disagree with you here, AND to be honest, I almost bought this very Longer printer based on your vid. However, this printer is missing SEVERAL of the things I had on my list for "must haves" in buying my 3d printer.
    First, It does not have an all metal sprite, direct drive or dual gear extruder, which was a deal breaker. And while we are talking about the extruder, the limited temps of the nozzle and bed were also a big deal to me, because it limits many of the different filaments you can work with. Second, it only has one z axis screw/motor, which makes it much harder to get a level z axis and screws up your layering. Then it does not have the titanium heat break or hard steel extruder, so wear and tear becomes a problem down the road. It also doesn't have auto bed leveling either, and that was a must. I knew I wanted to have a printer with manual as well as auto bed leveling, so that was a big deal breaker. Even though they say it is BL Touch ready, I didn't want to have to install something like that, being too new to the 3d printing world. So I ended up going with the Creality CR-10 Smart PRO. I would not have purchased the regular Smart, because it had many problems, and didn't have manual bed leveling. But the Smart PRO fixed all of those problems, and has every feature I was looking for. And I found a Black Friday deal of $570 dollars, so it was a no brainer. You should be very careful with vids like this, as it could hurt your credibility that you've spent so much time building up.

It was until well after that I read, (just keep it clean!!)I had already gunked up so bad lol. My “run out” sensor just stopped working..but other than that..this thing has been great!!
    Thanks for your site! Great info!!

What would my 3rd 3-D printer be after those two because I am going to sell 3-D print toys and stuff on Etsy, and the prices will be determined by how long it takes to print, the type of filament, and how eye catching it is.

    I know you said that this isn’t a sponsored video and that they don’t even know that you’re making this video but you also said at the beginning that nobody gave you anything for this video but I feel like that’s slightly misleading. Though they didn’t give you the printer for this specific video and they may not know that you’re making this specific video, the fact of the matter is later in the video you admitted they gave you the printer for a previous video so they did give you the printer. That may have no bearing on your praise of the printer and it very well may be the printer that you recommend to people honestly but at the end of the day you’re showing off a printer that you didn’t pay for while at the same time saying it’s not a sponsored video they don’t know about this video almost insinuating like it’s so good you went out with your own money and bought it, but didn’t.
    At the end of the day, I don’t really care, I just felt like I should at least point it out. The fact of the matter is, I never heard of this brand to have even ever considered this printer and when I’m in the market for a new printer in the near future, I’ll probably give it a serious look thanks to your video, but I would be careful saying “not sponsored, I didn’t receive anything for this video” when showing off a free printer

    I watched reviews on printers for days before finally choosing what would be my first printer. I'm new to the trade, and that being said, the more videos I watched and part comparisons I reviewed it seemed to be this LK5 Pro was basically a generic copy of the Enders. I bought the LK5 Pro based on your previous review with the thinking that it would be best to learn on a cheaper printer as there would likely be growing pains, etc. Acknowledging that yes, there are more bells and whistles on pricier models, this has been an excellent first printer! The larger print size has allowed for larger print possibilities without the hassle of splitting parts and, combined with Cura's slicer, has been very "Newb" friendly. I added an enclosure and have even been able to safely and effectively produce good quality prints with carbon fiber polycarbonate at the lower end of the CF temp range. Honestly the only issues I have had so far have been self-inflicted as I have added upgrades, which this printer has been fairly easy to modify. As it is a less common brand it is just a bit harder to find specifications and walkthroughs for when considering upgrades. Overall I am very happy with this printer and wouldn't hesitate to buy the same again if I were starting over. Thank you for your recommendation!
    For your stormtrooper helmet, do you scale the print size down to make it fit in one piece? I can't quite decide how you have it oriented in the video clips you've shared and haven't been able to do the same in Cura without scaling down.
    I have enjoyed your videos, hate to see you go! Most of my intro to 3d printing and decisions have been based largely on your work. I have appreciated your thorough and honest reviews.
    Thank you!

Neither of the Longers have given me issues. Could just be a lucky set or something but seriously, they've been so reliable. Hopefully you can get someone to take the Alfawise off your hands!
