I knew one of the writers on the first Dr. Strange movie, a guy named Carlyle. Edit: also by "stepped out of line" it's probably more accurate to say he told the truth. On Disney was being accused of racism for casting Tilda Swinton as the Ancient One, he mentioned that it was done because the character in the comics is Tibetan and that wouldn't work with China.

Doctor Strange knows her deep down that she's capable of doing a lot of good. It's like having a friend be severely addicted to drugs. It's also like that in the comics, she's morally grey and at times selfish but in the end she usually does a lot of good. She's also kind of like jean grey, good person at heart but often she's either being manipulated or her mind is clouded causing her to make mistakes and hurt people. In wandavision while she did enslave an entire town, she technically didn't kill anybody innocent and it was clear she was being manipulated by agatha in her grief.

She then proceeds to create ANOTHER reality bubble around the cabin so it looks pretty and has some of the biggest non-fruiting apple trees ive ever seen.... Without recreating her husband and 2 kids again. Why? She could literally just remake them at any given time but is like "nah, i need a different Wandas kids so i can take em dimension hopping for some chicken noodle soup and sprite when they get the sniffles."

And even if women have to be stopped, they will be stopped by themselves and not by any man. They dont need to work hard to gain their power. They are perfect the way they are and they have all the power they need. No matter what they do, they deserve love and respect from everyone (peak entitlement). They just need to believe in themselves and stop listening to the toxic men. Other men losing lives trying to save the world is not sacrifice made by those men but sacrifice made by women because their feefee got hurt and they have to live with it. The new He Man or more like Teela Show, Captain Marvel, Mulan, Black Widow, these are the new archetypes of modern cinema. And it wont stop.

The costume design and Dr Strange's hair were so garish and cartoony I was distracted throughout the entire movie. Wanda is not intimidating, or scary, she just comes across as irritating. Olsen's little lip twitching and quivering and chin high-holding does not come across as broken, sympathetic, or sad. The whole thing was easily predictable, nothing came as a surprise. I've been reading John Byrne's Superman run lately, and there is an issue where Lex Luthor is trying to convince one of the soon to be New Guardians that she should side with him against the Super heroes. He tells a story about Superman fighting a villian named Combattor, and he frames everything that superman does as being selfish and self-aggrandizing, that he doesn't care about the people around him, he destroys property without a thought to who he might be hurting and how it will effect the city, and so on. And it hit me, Supervillians are now writing our superhero stories. The Heroes are being framed as bad guys and the bad people who actually do bad things are being portrayed as victims of their Tyranny. The People who do the right thing, who try to handle problems in the best way possible are now the considered EVIL, and the Emotionally unstable Jerks who act irrationally and actually hurt other people whether they have a reason to or now are GOOD........It's insane

They may have used him for nostalgia in the trailers, but that doesn't take away from what has been done to his characters in the last 5 or so years. Remember one of the plot points of Logan was that Xavier was literally going senile and couldn't control his powers anymore. His character also likened his medication to chemical castration. His character Picard was also ran through the wringer as a sad old man who constantly was lectured and insulted. Now here he is again in this movie going through the same motion.
Put 2 and 2 together. They did the same with Harrison Ford's characters. In Indiana Jones he was brought back as a divorced dead beat father. In the Blade runner sequel he was killed off; and in Star wars he was brought back as a divorced deadbeat father a second time and then killed off again.
There is a pattern with Hollywood, recognize it. If it was only about sales and money they would have learned their lesson years ago with the all female Ghost busters reboot that flopped; and franchises wouldn't all be commiting ritualistic suicide all at once.

Anyone else just thinking that if they were going for the multiverse storyline why they didn't just start in a new universe after end game and do the setup for the next big threat with a brand new cast of characters. It would also allow new actors to take on Iron man and Captain America, Thor, Black widow etc as we all know the actors are tired of these roles. They could have changed their origin stories and do alternate histories. Like you can also have had the characters from the old universe make appearances and help out etc.
I'm also thinking about it from a new fans perspective. No new fan is going to have a clue what's happening or why unless they watch several other films and series on a platform that might not exist in a few years time as Disney might pull the plug on plus at some point in the future.

When I watched this movie, I actually missed the opening scene and arrived only to see this giant tentacle monster chasing this girl in New York. So while I understood the general premise of the movie, I felt completely lost on how some elements came to be, such as the Strange corpse or America's power until they resurfaced later in the movie.
And that is the heart of this film's issues in my opinion. Others have mentioned how this film feels like two different movies at odds with each other, the corporate Marvel superhero narrative that emphasizes world-building and interconnecting all of these different characters, concepts, and worlds and then there's this trippy, abstract Sam Raimi spectacle where we're seeing a self-centered asshole make grand sacrifices against unfathomable horrors.
When it's Marvel, it's convoluted and heavily relies on your investment in this grander narrative of multiversal conflict.
When it's Sam Raimi, it's all-consuming bleakness sprinkled with slapstick and tearing down the egos of these self-important "heroes."
And based on the interviews Sam has given about the creative process of this film, it's painfully obvious that the people at the top didn't know how everything would piece together so they left it up to the director to make the most of their messy continuity. My only hope is that IF Sam winds up coming back to direct another Marvel project, he's wholeheartedly allowed to DIRECT instead of trying to jigsaw a narrative from the disjointed ramblings of corporate entities.

The problem I have with this has less to do with the film on it's own, and more to do with acknowledging and using the multiverse.
For the average viewer, the fact that the multiverse exists now invalidates everything that's happened before and everything that's going to happen with future films because there exists an infinite number of worlds where the actions of the past films and all future films did and did not happen.
What exactly is the point of any Disney Marvel film from this point on? Is everything successful Disney Marvel film from now on just going to be No Way Home with different heroes? It's all pointless now!
If a film goes good but incompetent writers don't know how to continue the story: "Multiverse! Those events happened elsewhere, embrace our story that totally isn't stupid!"

@@dirkdisco2316 Well the reason why they and myself think that way is because we judge not just one film. But all of them since they are part of a film franchise and we also know the characters and we know their powers and we know what Disney's been doing and that is why are thoughts on it are not good and I did see it and it is bad and no CGI can change that. We except it to be just that a story with actual characters(not props for the woke BS) among other things and the MCU to us ended with Endgame and we judge based on that standard and that is something that Kevin Feige has lost and why they hire activists and they put a vicegrip on the real creatives why want to make a good film but the studio holds them for some reason.

@@JustTooDamnHonest There are just too many movies to judge them as a whole. I think this one is awesome, shows toxic femininity and in the end Strange had the agency and did it. The visuals were also top notch. It's my 5th fav after Endgame, Infinity War, Gaurdians 1 and No Way Home.

The 'moral' of this movie is that NO ONE is truly a hero. Good guys can be bad guys at the drop of a hat. Now... Had they released this movie BEFORE Spider-Man: No Way Home, the movie would still stink but the message would have part of a character arc for Strange where things look very bleak and negative going INTO No Way Home but Peter's decision to selflessly sacrifice his own happiness for the sake of everything would show Strange that YES. There IS true heroism after all.
And also, they got to kill off the existing Wanda So they can clean slate the character if they want to use her with the X-Men and replacement Pietro. So they were able to finish destroying Wanda as the hero she had become in Avengers 2.

@@bobmcbobson8368 Either way, it's a very cynical attitude. As I said, had this movie been released BEFORE No Way Home, then at least the end of No Way Home would take the arc to a POSITIVE place. But this is just nihilist.

@@marcharkness6101 That is not true, just because a hero is flawed doesn't mean they aren't true heroes only ppl who are cynical like you think that also that's not the moral at all in this movie and there isn't even a moral because Wanda was never a hero or villain she's just someone who's suffered tragedy after tragedy and acts out of control because she's never had a way to properly channel her emotions. Now Spiderman and Superman are true heroes for lots of reasons, they don't kill, play dirty, help citizens and never give up even when things look hopeless what makes a true is someone who is willing to overcome their flaws and be a good example for ppl that look up to them, to say that isn't true heroism means you don't just don't understand shite about them.

@@wwehulk8798 Show me where I said that wasn't heroism. I stand by my statement that the makers of this film do not seem to believe in unselfish true heroism. Wanda stops herself in the end but the writers took a hero and made her a true villain She murdered LOTS of people to obtain power even if what she wanted is sympathetic, the Wanda we saw who was appalled by what Ultron intended to do was gone. Even if she may have briefly remembered that person as she killed herself. If you had paid attention to my comments, you might have noticed that I was disappointed that incompetent timing spoiled a wonderful CHARACTER arc for Dr. Strange. That this movie could have left a cynical feel in Strange, having seen the Illuminati as hypocrites who had to put a stop to an arrogant Dr. Strange only to die because of their own arrogance. Strange saw versions of himself that he has to acknowledge "But for the Grace of God, go I." And seen Wanda, a person who he fought alongside, SAVING the UNIVERSE giving in to selfish desires that led her to do VERY evil things. IF that movie had come first, it would be a troubling thought for Strange. ONLY TO BE REDEEMED BY Peter in No Way Home as Peter literally gives up EVERYTHING to save the world. Note... Peter DOES GREAT GOOD and his reward is to LOSE everything but the responsibility of being Spider-Man. THAT is heroism And he IS overcoming flaws and mistakes. But had that come AFTER Multiverse of Madness, I think it would have been a reaffirming message. One Strange would feel in his heart even if he didn't know why.
And people CAN have different Points of View on a fictional work and not be ignorant.
