7:25 Oddly enough I never hear anyone reference the callback here.
This is the mistake, the exact mistake, Admiral Ozzel committed in the beginning of Empire. He exited hyperspace too late, trying to get to Hoth faster, but alerted the Rebels. This is the big mistake that caused Vader to kill Ozzel and promote Captain Piett to Admiral in his place. Had Ozzel followed this exact protocol, all the Rebels on Hoth could have been captured or killed.
The fact that they're having their POV characters eyeroll at this specific reference, as if this sort of protocol is made-up and useless, is just more deliberate destruction of the original. They made sure to nail the reference, and then they shat on it.

I’ve always remembered how Qui Gon and Obi Wan couldn’t defeat the destroyer droids in TPM because of their shields, but Anakin blasted them to oblivion when he was stuck in the Naboo fighter. Because the ship’s blasters are much stronger than the blasts being reflected back at the droids. Yet Ahsoka deflects ship blasts with ease. As if they’re coming from battle droids or storm troopers.

To be fair, Hera is just pulling the same strategy Luke would pull during the Battle of Hoth.
Luke: Rogue Group lets make runs at the enemy in the only direction those walkers weapons can face.
      Also the Empire.
Veers: My Lord, shall we bring down mobile anti-aircraft support for our forces?
      Vader: What is anti-aircraft support?
Veers: A mobile platform that provides cover to our forces from air attacks. The country we are based off of called National Socialist Germany is famous for having many versions of them, as well as the other nation we get compared to called the Soviet Union during the Cold War.
Vader: No. That would make our job too easy and we want the Rebels to have a sporting chance.
(This is a joke folks, but it is a legit issue that I have with Star Wars ground battles. And Disney just makes things worse by creating battles worse than Hoth.)
But yes under Disney combat scenes have gotten worse. Whether its Lightsaber duels (they look like two people trying to beat each other with baseball bats rather than actual swordsman), Ground battles or Space battles. Disney just sucks at making even decent action scenes.
I'll go back to watching the Dogfight series if I want my dogfight highs, cause at least the 3d recreations are entertaining and actually keep my interest; even when the series can get some things wrong.

@@atrane365 Disney's canon - the literature, not the movies - established that while the empire was reformed back into the republic after the -death- beginning of Palpatine's 30-year vacation, the new government led by suddenly moronified Mon Mothma was so bad with the other heads of the former rebel alliance being too stupid to do anything about it, that no one really cared about the First Order forming from the remaining empire loyalists during the next 30 years. Only Leia and her closest allies (not Han and Luke, though) did, creating the Resistance as a separate organization from the republic that, while supporting the Resistance, was still only mildly bothered. Even when the First Order started to blow up planets.

As other replies mentioned, they had the capability to build but also SUPPLY (which presumably required resources on a scale ten times more vast than even the original Death Star which all but bankrupted the Imperial Navy and Tarkin himself wanted the Emperor to instead spend that money on dozens more superdreadnoughts or thousands more regular star destroyers which would have been much more useful in actually pacifying the galaxy) the planet death star, and yet despite there being ZERO chance that the republic didn't have any idea of these massive amounts of resources being refined and supplies being shipped all in one specific direction, as you said they just said "Nah, it'll be fine" right up until Diverse Lady watched the Starkiller blast heading straight for her.
Also, on that note, how did literally nobody in the fucking Republic Navy find it strange that factions in the new republic were convincing them to pull the ENTIRE fleet into close orbit of the planet? They KNOW VERY WELL about superweapons capable of obliterating planets in a single blast, and yet thought nothing of 'demilitarizing' by pulling everything in close to the planet LMAO, it's writing so bad only a mother could love it, and by mother I mean KK.

A useful contrast to the "I'm such a stoic badass that I just seem bored no matter how much my life is in danger" of these gerlbosses and modern action films in general is the classic Master and Commander, where they are visibly bearing up stoically to the horrific damage and carnage that was entailed in repeated cannon broadsides of the time. The Stephen Maturin character is especially masterful in portraying his suppressed extreme stress whilst triageing in his dark and blood soaked little ship hospital as the ship is being shaken by cannon fire. That my friends, that's a masterful portrayal of grace under pressure.

Agreed. A personal favorite of mine is Spencer Tracy in "Northwest Passage" (1940.) Tracy put on a clinic on how to portray leadership and command presence as the legendary Robert Rogers in that film. Tracy's "Major Rogers" is the kind of leader that one would follow into combat.
Late in the movie, Rogers' Rangers on a grueling march are starving and exhausted with the only things keeping them going is Rogers' leadership and his promise that at their destination there will be food, warmth, and shelter. As they near the place, Rogers runs ahead and discovers that he's been cruelly let down. There is no food. Knowing that the promise that he made to his men won't be kept, he breaks down in tears. When his men approach giddy with anticipation for the food, he quickly composes himself and resumes the mantle of command before his men can fall into total despondency. (Does anyone think modern Hollywood would allow a "girlboss" to have such a moment of even a temporary weakness such as Tracy's Rogers' heartbroken tears?)

Thrawn in the old books was one of the most beloved antagonists due to a multilayering of mystery and ability. He's a Chiss (an alien from the unknown regions) who rises to the rank of Admiral in a highly xenophobic empire. Palpatine, dispite the empires distate for anything nonhuman, sees such value in Thrawn's stratigic ability that he gives him one of the highest ranks and just keeps him out of the way of the other admirals as he knows they would ignore the Chiss because he's got blue skin and red eyes. Pellaeon (a human) is his first officer who has massive respect for Thrawn due to the way he leads and ruins anyone he comes up against in battle, and the only reason it all comes to an end is betrayal by his bodyguard at a critical moment. Although we later find that he had a back up plan incase that happened..... he was THAT good!
Its sad that the Legacy books are not considered canon, especially when the story of this Admiral is one of bigotry, racism and how he overcomes that through knowledge and actions..... its like the perfect woke story wrapped up in a bow with a Star Wars sticker stuck straight on top to excite all the old fans and introduce new ones to a collection of amazing stories...... what a bunch of twats Disney are atm!

As Drinker put it, it's quite literally up to the whims of whichever writer is writing Current Project. One almost might wonder if it's by design. Disney seems to be doing their best to de-mystify the entire Star Wars IP, removing everything that made it special and turning it into more by the numbers slop like the MCU.
If (and when) Thrawn shows up but gets immediately #GirlBoss put in his place by witch(?) lady (I can never remember her name LMAO) and is forced to grovel before her to get the right to command the Imperial Remnant navy, we will have our final proof that yes, this was always KK's goal. She suffered long enough assisting those evil Manfolks like Lucas and Spielberg who got all the credit and money and accolades (never mind that it's because THEY invented the fucking IPs and the stories, and she was just essentially hired help), now she will show EVERYONE that their work is not as respectable and fun and worth enjoying as we thought!!! Her pathological need for 'revenge' has led to this constant bombardment of female characters with zero character other than "Me strong, men bad" played by actresses who get on stage and clearly know nothing about Star Wars, even Disney Star Wars, but what they DO know and gladly harp on and on about, is how diverse they are and how strong their character is... Nah, not 1000+mph, it's probably 20-50m/s in order to stay in the frame for half a second. 250mph would be around 110m/s or 360 feet/second. At some point, they do have to slow down, so it's hard to know what's going on.
The camera is probably a football field away, so if it's going past the camera in half a second, it should be simple enough to calculate based on her height, and the length of the lightsaber in pixels, along with the parallax. I'd guess it's closer to 80-100mph.
A proper maneuver would be to pincer, slow the formation for a wider pass, and attack at a 30' fire pattern, then slow to stop to tow the ship back. Theoretically, you wouldn't stop to board a ship in a fighter craft, but you also wouldn't sortie past either. The reason being, they could be playing dead, and the other 2 fighters would have to pursue if they evade or move out of range, i.e. snap into hyperdrive or explode, sic.
Everything else though, yes. She'd probably rip her arms off with the difference in mass as the saber plasma passes through the metal. The way a saber works now, seems to be almost imaginary at times. The fact that the lightsaber can absorb immense amounts of kinetic energy and not send Ahsoka off into space like a pinball, is ludicrous. It could probably achieve insane feats if a large enough saber beam was created, like cutting through a planet, or destroying a sun, et al.

You can not raise the tension if there are no stakes, there is no struggle, or consequences to your decisions. It's part of the girl boss formulae. The girl boss never makes a bad decision and if she makes a questionable decision there are no consequences. If a girl boss is forced to interact with a man it's with loathing. Every bad idea a good writer would warn a new writer not to make the girl boss writers make those errors on purpose. The girl boss isn't relatable. Not because they are female.
