Hi, are you able to share the cost of all 3 together?
So I can just copy all this right? This is gold, thanks for being the guinea pig..lol!
THE BEST I HAVE STUMBLED ACROSS YET
Thanks
I stumbled upon your channel and this is almost the exact plans that I want to have with my future container home. Looking forward to new videos and I will share your channel with my FB family and hope it helps spread the word!
Cool and good luck 👍
Awesome, hugs from Brazil 🇧🇷
Awesome svideos and explanation!
just what I needed
Just subbed. This whole series is CRAZY DUDE. THANK YOU 🙏🏼
Thanks Zero! New episode drops today. The containers arrive but the delivery truck gets stuck in the sand!
I wonder how long it will be until architectural firms have all this info in their back pockets. The parallel I beam was a really clever solution!
I personally wish there was a more streamlined approach to home design and building. I understand some people enjoy living in a customized home that feels original and unique from their neighbors, but for me personally I'm happy to live in a copy and paste home that was made in a factory if it means no debt and structurally sound. I mean, mobile homes are a step in that direction, but they're not the most sturdy structures last I researched.
On the other hand, mass produced steel shipping container homes...these things are like tanks. It would certainly be interesting to see if some big manufacturer comes along and creates a system for efficiently building these for substantially lower prices than the current options out there (which are charging obscene amounts per square foot).
can you provide name firm that did structural calculations?
These are great plans, but had another ideal! What if arranged the Containers into a U shape?!
I guess the Containers would have to be on a concrete slab. I'm just spitballing here! But that would create a giant living room!
👍👍 there are so many possibilities with shipping containers. They really are like Legos. Though for me I wanted to create the simplest most straightforward and cost-effective home I could. 3 40-footers slapped together side by side seemed like a good way to do it. Thanks for the suggestions!! 👍
So where's the link to download the building plans for your shipping container home. Are the free or do you have to become a paying member? Thank you Jerry M.
Heyyyy can u give the name and the informed from ur ingeniero
Could you use compost toilets instead of a septic system? or are they super strict about that requirement?
Great question. I actually wanted to do composting toilets but I asked the county health department and she basically said not allowed, though it sounded like she'd not really even heard about composting toilets, so maybe there's a loophole. Alternatively I guess I could go to city hall and petition the government 😂 j/k.
So yeah, I had to cave to the septic system. Not ideal and it costs a ton of money (to pay someone to install).
Oh well, I would've gladly harvested humanure but I guess chicken poop will have to do 😉
@Think Outside The Container, Does the structural plans include actual calculations?
Hey William great question. The structural plans do NOT include the calculations because according to the engineer I hired (as well as the local building department when I asked) said they usually don't require seeing the calculations for getting the permit approved.
So my engineer advised there was no need to include the calcs in plans.
That being said, the engineer DID run the structural calcs for my plans, he just didn't include them in the finals and I submitted for the permit.
Hope that helps.
@@thinkoutsidethecontainer thank you for the response, i am to doing a similar project for my senior design coass at FIT. Our layout is soightly different, we ended up stacking the containers ontop of one another.
Cool good luck
🤝👌👍💪 new frend
I like your container home , who can gat one drawing plan from you I life in suriname south america
how much total cost for plans and construction cost not including land?
I cannot say total price for final construction of home because I have not finished the home yet. I CAN give you a rough estimate of what I've spent so far (excluding land):
- Roughly $16k so far for:
+ 3 containers
+ Getting 3 containers delivered to land (100 mile drive)
+ culvert installation (paid someone else to do it)
+ Septic System Permit (just permit, no septic system yet)
+ Well drilled + well pump
+ Electrical Meter Pedestal for connection to local power company
+ Structural + MEP plans by professional engineers
+ and a few other miscellaneous expenses.
It might sound like a lot considering I haven't even started building the container home itself yet, but in my experience a lot of the starting costs usually some of the most expensive (land, well, septic system, foundation, containers, etc.)
I think of it like a pyramid: you have to start with the base of the pyramid, and that requires the most blocks...then there's fewer and fewer required until you get to the capstone at the top.
Overall my ideal goal would be to build the whole thing (including driveway and fence around the property) for $50k or less. We'll see!
@@thinkoutsidethecontainer Yeah I was just looking for an estimate. I was thinking about a high end barn instead of the container method myself. thanks.
@@thinkoutsidethecontainer I'm curious about the rough costs for just the structural and MEP plans (what the engineers charged you) I am a MEchanical Engineer and want to build my own container home, but would need prof engineers to stamp/seal them, I may still just have them design it all rather than just approve my design. Let me know what their fees were if you can ,thanks!
Hey, I paid just about $1,000 for each (structural and MEP).
THEN I paid $300 to get the structural stamped by a PE (my County did not require stamped MEP).
@@thinkoutsidethecontainer , thanks a bunch! I actually just found your latest cost video, thanks again :-)
We couldn't charge your card. Try again or use a different card. WHEN I TRY TO PAY
