    Great videos man! I too am starting my own container build very soon here in Florida. I’m in the land purchasing phase right now but wanted to ask if you mind sharing the contact info for the engineers you used?

    • @thinkoutsidethecontainer
      @thinkoutsidethecontainer  Před 4 lety +4

      Hey Maxadon, that sounds awesome. At the moment I can't give their exact info out but I can say that there are TONS of engineers to hire on those big freelancing job sites. That's where I found my 2 guys and they are currently working on the plans as I write this.
      I hired a structural engineer to do the structural calcs/drawings for the foundation and openings (doors & windows), and a separate MEP specialist to do calcs/drawings for mechanical, electrical, and plumbing.
      I can say that the structural engineer charged me $1000, and I was able to negotiate down to $1050 for the MEP guy (though most MEP guys were quoting me $1250 - $1800).
      Good luck on your build! I'll be releasing a new video soon covering all the details of my finished plans and the process of finding/hiring engineers etc

    • @thinkoutsidethecontainer
      @thinkoutsidethecontainer  Před 4 lety +3

      Challenging, yes. Rocket science? Far from it, at least not in my experience so far. The structural calcs are more a requirement of the building department than anything else, at least in my view, because the style of foundation for the container home I want is not too complicated, at least not in execution. I view the structural calcs more like peace of mind than integral to building it.

    • @jonathanbautista111

      @@thinkoutsidethecontainer after giving it some thought I agree, at least I'll have professional drawings of my plan with plumbing and electrical that I can actually follow. Definitely looking forward to seeing how yours turn out. Will you share who was firm that did it for your calculations?

    • @thinkoutsidethecontainer
      @thinkoutsidethecontainer  Před 4 lety +2

      @@jonathanbautista111 I'll have to ask the firm/engineer if they're ok with the information being made public. What I will suggest is that you can find qualified, experienced, licensed FREELANCE engineers on popular freelancing websites. The ability to shop around for a freelancer is great, and I'm going to assume you can find a better deal.
      So you're still in the planning stages of building your own container home?

    • @thinkoutsidethecontainer
      @thinkoutsidethecontainer  Před 4 lety

      @@jonathanbautista111 cool. I wanted to do solar too, though I recently changed my mind, mainly I feel that the land I purchased was priced, in part, based on the powerlines right across the road. Overall, I know the cost of land I paid in a sense already included the convenience of powerlines so close.....

    I'm in the process of doing the same thing and was wondering where you found your engineer?
