I know it's been a while since my last video, getting everything ready for the building department took a while. But it WORKED! More episodes coming soon.
Hi
Thanks for sharing what you had to go through to get the permit from the building department ,my question to you after experiencing what you know now what can you change or steps that you could have made to make it easier for you in the state of Florida? Another think which county will you advise me to buy my land that is less strict towards permits and rules if i am planning to build a home shipping containers ? I love your simple home design ,can i use it for my future home? Thank you.
@@adamnafrica8234 Hey Adam yes, I also have my home plans/model available to download, right here:

As for things I would do different, not much. The county I'm in has more standards than I expected, but ultimately was fair and have clear requests.
I am not familiar with any other counties so I wouldn't be able to suggest any, unfortunately.
Out of curiosity I was wondering if you knew what if you're not having water or septic attached to the building if that makes any sense like pretty much a garage made out of two shipping containers?
@@dontbea7237 what exactly is your question? You mean in terms of counties and building departments and how they view it?
@@thinkoutsidethecontainer trying to find out if it was only a pain in the ass because you added a kitchen and bathroom if I was just using it for a storage then would it be as hectic with permits
Just heard you say you're in FL so looking forward to watching this come to life! Thanks!
👍👍 thanks for watching, new video coming soon
Wow, I wondered what ever happened to this project. I actually checked once to make sure I was still subscribed. I'm glad to hear it's still underway, and I can't wait to see more!
Yeah it took me a few months (between a part time job) to finalize the container home plans for submitting to the building department. The constructions will start soon and I already got 1 of 3 containers delivered to my land. Stay tuned!
Literally the exact video I was looking for! Thanks dude!
Awesome! Glad it was relevant. The next epsiode is going to be documenting building the foundation for the container home. Stay tuned!
❤
Oh man. Two totally separate comments, here. One: Holy crap, congratulations!!!! This is so cool! I found you via a comment on Tint Homes, and your CAD model is gorgeous all on its own! Two: Jesus, I made *so much fun* of my husband when he grew out his mustache like this, He better never see me watching this channel. 🤣
LOL! That's hilarious. Yes thanks for the Sketchup model compliment, and thanks for the um....mustache compliment? lol, but in all seriousness, I can't find anything else to do with the mustache, and shaving it off leaves that Abraham Lincoln style I don't like lol. More videos coming soon!
@@thinkoutsidethecontainer Haha, the mustache struggle is real. Alex tried doing a fu manchu right before the handlebar, but he got sick of eating his mustache anytime he opened his mouth and trimmed it back. It's like growing out bangs -- that in-between length is just difficult.
Congrats on the completion of your plans.
Thanks Shane, I'll be covering the approved plans in lots of detail in the next video
thank you for sharing so much! very inspiring:)
hoping to build my own one day!
Awesome!
It’s about time
Took longer than I expected to complete the plans. I'm working a part-time job WHILE building the container home, so that does slow me down. If someone dedicates ALL of their time to this it should go much quicker.
That being said, I'm enjoying taking my time with this, enjoying the process and it gives me time to create these videos and share them with others.
good stuff here on this channel i did not hear you mention impact fee's I bought a piece of property in florida and impact fee's are 16k for mobile home and 24k for a house not sure what containers fall under hopefully mobile homes hell i will put tires on it if i have to, Just subscribed to the channel good luck with everything.
Thank u so much for ur channel ..u help us a lot ,the new land buyers..i was have a dream to build my own house with shipping containers..since i was working in a shipping port,in spain..but now wondering build my house in florida close to agriculture area..
Hey bud yeah like I said I'm building the home out here in Hendry County, Montura Ranches. It is zoned RRF (rural residential farm), so you can build a home and you can grow food, keep some farm animals etc. I like the area and there are numerous other container homes. If you have any other questions feel free to comment here or find me on my Facebook page, link in video description
Think Outside The Container thank u so much for ur knowledge..is many souls out there looking for freedom and healthy life..a lot of blessings for ur new house..
Can we build on our land, if it’s not fully paid for yet? Or must be paid in full?? We’re in Florida also
I am working on my container home I’m putting 2 , how would I get the plans needed ?? I’m having quite an issue
Love your video!! I purchased land in Lake wales, Polk county Florida! What are the steps to find if a container homes is valid for my vacant land?
By "valid" do you mean if the county allows container homes?
Or do you mean other stuff like building rmand construction related?
If you mean if the county allows it, I'd say first and foremost contact the county's building department. They should be able to answer their stance on container homes including what kind zoning your land is, etc.
Thanks for watching my video, new episode is coming soon, stay tuned!
Great video. Thanks for sharing. You're moving along quite nicely. Did you learn sketchup from CZcams?
A bit of CZcams, a bit of Google searching, it's a fairly simple program to figure out. The challenging part obviously was putting the entire container home model together, that took many hours, including going back and forth with the MEP and structural engineers. The 3D model could turn out useful for others, it definitely helped me.
@@thinkoutsidethecontainer thank you. This is really great info.
Glad to hear it. If documenting my personal journey can help others, that would be cool
Hi, I see palm trees. Are you in FL or CA?
I'm in Florida, Hendry County. A lot of rural land out here where county zoning/codes allow shipping container homes. 👍
Hi there..im planing to buy a lot in south florida mayby in lehigh ,lee county..what’s the total of your building permit? To start building your house.
Hey, I'm out here in Hendry County, Montura Ranches. My building permit cost about $800.
Think Outside The Container thanks man, sorry for the late response..$800 sounds good..
Think Outside The Container so that’s the total to start the foundation’s and sit the containers on them??and installind a property fence, and make anything in your land?
Yes I believe that $800 permit includes permission to make foundation, put containers on etc. Though I think you need a fence permit, I think that one's pretty cheap. 👌👍👍
I just bought land in south west Florida with the hood of building s container home. Would you be able to chat through e-mail?
Hey Roger. Yes you can reach me at: thinkoutsidethecontainer@gmail.com
Thanks man 👋🏽
No problem.
@@thinkoutsidethecontainer just emailed you! I’m so psyched now! Thank you in advance!!
I'll take a look
Are you the red pill guy?
Yes
Hey I am so happy to hear it! I’ll be checking out your videos as I’ll be starting one of these this summer.
@@timvredenburgh560 cool! Good luck on the project 🙂
