What is there to disagree. Carlo's right. Football tactics have changed. Once upon a time the top clubs had an exceptionally gifted player who is head and shoulders above everyone and dictated how the team played. But other teams evolved tactics to negate them, whether by physical play or low defensive blocks or whatever. It became a luxury for the super technical player to just stroll around. Yes, he could still be technical but he had to marry it with physical abilities as well, such as being fast enough to avoid getting marked and blocked off to be effective. The rest of the team also had to be faster in order to beat the low block.Pretty soon speed and physical ability became the primary feature. Another factor was that back in the old days, systems were pretty static. Players were very specialized and comparatively tended to stick to their area of the field. If you were an attacker, you were pretty useless in defending. If you were a defender, don't expect the guy to dribble, pass or even score goals in open play. So if you were one of those super passers, you can be effective without being good at anything else. The best example was the 4-4-2 (not the diamond, but the one with two wide midfielders). It was static system, which opposing teams found they could negate by using a more flexible and fluid system which allowed them to outnumber the 4-4-2 team by moving more players into areas of the field where play was. As a result players had to be more dynamic. Of course, these are all very broad brushstrokes used to emphasize the small differences in evolving tactics of football.

That’s one of the reasons James Isco and kaka at Madrid ended up phasing out. The game was evolving after a while and players like them were getting used less and less. Jude plays in the same position right now for Madrid that they played except in Jude’s case he tracks back hard… I miss Isco under Zidane… he was a different gravy.

@@dalic24 James and Isco were benched in favour of Casemiro and Kroos. Zodane clearly didn't want creative players since he knows they take time on the ball and this would reduce the powers of Cristiano who could give them 50 goals a season if they passed more to him than play their game.

Big fan of Zidane but he didn't have to deal with the heavy pressing of today. The tempo was different and overall quality of the league was weak. La Liga of today is harder for everybody, more parity.
Bellingham is underrated because he doesn't score beautiful goals and doesn't have the body of a midfielder...so he doesn't give the impression of a technically intelligent player.

Who has the best defense across Europe? Lets find out shall we.
Shot Creating Actions (SCA) vs top teams across Europe.
    -Vs city, 170 SCA
    -Vs Leverkusen, 176 allowed.
    -Vs Bayern, 178.
    -Vs Arsenal, 183 allowed.
Arsenal isn't just the best or one of the best defensive team in the PL, but in the world. This will be proven the further we go.
    Goal Creating Actions (GCA) allowed.
Juventus allowed only 12 GCA, inter 13, Leverkusen 14, Arsenal 14.
Clearly, Arsenal is to be considered the superior defensive team here, because the context shows that the quality of attackers in the league of the teams ranked slightly ahead or tied, aren't as potent as those that Arsenal have gone up against.
Take-Ons That Leads To Shot Attempt:
When in comes to a defense getting dribbled past that leads to a shot from the opponent, Leverkusen have only been beaten 4 times off the dribble that leads to a shot, Atletico only 7 in such case, Arsenal 3rd in the table with 8.
Again, does Leverkusen and Atletico goes up against better attacking players every weekend than what Arsenal face? I highly doubt it. What makes this even more impressive, is that Arsenal play the highest line out of those 3 teams.
If we are talking about conceding goal scoring chances from Live-Ball passes from the opponent, Leverkusen, Juventus, and Arsenal, have conceded only 5, 6 and 7 goal scoring chances from the opponent respectively.
    Goals Conceded:
Nice have conceded 4 goals but again, context shows that L1 quality of attackers aren' that good, because there's no way Nice is the best defensive team across Europe
10 goals scored vs Arsenal, 10 vs Liverpool, 10 vs Leverkusen, 9 vs Bayern, 8 vs Real M, 7 vs Atletico.
There was a penalty given against Arsenal vs chelsea, that should not have been given, and in the same game, a complete fluke goal by Mudryk. So really, Arsenal can even be considered to have conceded only 8 goals for argument sake.
Overall though, it's fair to suggest that Arsenal is currently the best defensive team in the world

@@afifmajid8754 Exactly. There's no reason for it either. I get that Seb can be a bit nerdy with US football but Craig and Stevie make it a mission to cut Seb down to size.
It's not being soft. For me it's toxic and shouldn't be on professional broadcast.
I like banter like the next person and it could be seen on this extra time. I guarantee you would not see this playfulness when Seb and Craig are on tmrw.

America doesn't care about futbol if we're being honest about it. I mean, the NBA, NFL, College Football (the funny shaped "football') and MLB all rank well beyond futbol. Other than money swaying the equation, it makes little sense to play an interesting tourney in the U.S. over the passion in other parts of South or Central America. To be honest, I don't want to watch games played in America where there is an utter lack of culture and affection for the game. The supporters chanting and singing is a great part of the sport. You get such a lesser version of that fan interaction when North American cities host.

wow, our game really moves in phases. 10 years ago, it was all about tiki-taka. Barcelona popularised technique-based football with a bunch of midgets. But remember that this was a counter trend to the late 2000s when the "Big 4" in English football were ruling Europe and the UCL. Then before that, Jan and Ale talk about the 90s when players like Carlos Valderrama were not that physical and possibly even fat. Mark my words, in 5 years from now, technique based football and tricky wingers will make a comeback.

There's a reason PSG failed miserably with Messi. He walks more than anything else quite literally. It works in the MLS but not in top leagues. That's fine as Messi is older and it's to be expected. But you can't have a 25 year old doing that in today's game, not possible.
