  • Real Madrid find themselves top of the tree at the halfway stage of the La Liga season, sitting first in the league on goal difference.
    However, in terms of stability, resources and recruitment they look a long while ahead of everyone else in Spain - and most clubs across Europe.
    So, with the future of manager Carlo Ancelotti secured with the recent contract extension, overseeing recruitment of talented youngsters in their redeveloped iconic stadium - what, if anything, do they need to do to improve? Apart from maybe adding Kylian Mbappe to their superstar team.
    Adam Leventhal is joined by The Athletic's La Liga writer Dermot Corrigan and Junior Spain Editor Tomas Hill Lopez-Menchero to discuss Madrid's season so far as well as analyse the ongoing chase to sign Mbappe.

    Speaking as a Madirista I personally think Carlo is doing a great job I do see daily Real Madrid fans dragging him saying he needs to retire but just thinking how Real Madrid were kind of in shambles with the Vinnie Courtois Militao and Alaba all injured not to mention Benzema leaving but he saw the potential in Jude before anybody to be a goal scorer play as a #10 and reformatted the team into a 4-4-2 strengthening the defense by signing all the mid fielders they can and it's paid off not only are Real Madrid #1 in Laliga they are winning 95%of their matches even when playing trash and have conceded the least amount of goals he's what I call the don

    Ancelotti is like a chameleon and adapts his strategy around the players he has. He isn't sold on a particular system, which makes him great. Another reason why, even though Madrid is down two starting CBs, they didn't make any moves in January is because Ancelotti will make it work with what he has currently. Consider that they are first in the league with no real #9 on the team after having Benzema for almost a decade. Using Bellingham as the primary goal creator comes from the genius of Don Carlo.

    • @Model_Roe
      @Model_Roe Před 3 měsíci +3

      Exactly it just shows his creativity and his ability to problem solve I would also say technically they don't really need a #9 because of their squad depth which is pretty deep they have no weak links and everybody on the squad is able to step and perform at a high level

      the reason its working cause of Bellingham. Madrid cant accept ancelotti to do miracles again and again without buying players. Last season they didnt won cause madrid didnt buy any player except Rudiger and then sold their MOTM winner of super cup casemiro to united. While Barca bought every player they can get for Xavi last season

    Real have already played away at all the other top four teams in the midst of an injury crisis that (touch wood) is beginning to clear up. If you're Girona you don't much fancy your chances when still level on points. The similarities peeps wannapoint to with Leicester omits that in that season every "top" club in England was absolutely shocking; Real ain't giving Girona that luxury.

    I don't want Mbappe & there is no desperation for him when Boniface, Oishmen & countless other strikers are on the rise. Even Haaland seems better long term for the dressing room, Mbappe will have too many rumours & his dna is now having a club be at his whims in terms of decision making.

    I wouldn't make light of any perceived "control over their destiny". It's difficult to play against teams who are able to foul with impunity while being held to higher standards themselves - have a look at the attacks on Brahim by Alaves for one example, while VAR immediately intervened to get Nacho sent off. That's just how it is in la liga for Real Madrid. It's not easy and it's why they don't simply run over the rest. It's never been any different in my memory.
    7:21 - Perez isn't the "owner". He's the president. The club is owned by the socios, including FP.
    11:42 - I think what you really mean is "it's really well set up for us to milk the story for as much as we possibly can".
    40:21 there already has been a "talent drain" from la liga. The best players have all been going to England, PSG, or Munich for some time. Despite that, they still have 4 clubs remaining in the champions league, while England have 2. Spain is just an all round better footballing country than England.

    The only thing that I would disagree with is the rebuild, and Cristiano Ronaldo takes. It wasn’t that Cristiano was jettison out because we changed our policy. He was let go because Florentino believed that Bale could maintain his stature and importance on the team and we believe that Hazard could provide the creativity outlet that was needed. Both of those predictions failed and the one that ended up stepping up was benzema.
    Vinicius was bought to ease his way into the team but because of hazards, constant injuries, he was brought into open warfare and a trial by fire. It was touch and go at the beginning, but thankfully zizou took Vinícius and put him on to the bench at times, when the media was far too critical of him , it was only until we completely wrote off hazard that our transfer market strategy changed and that is when we started going younger and I think fede and Eder Militão as well as finish us, were huge realizations as those dividends paid off.
    Also, as far as emotions and contracts go, we didn’t mess up at the beginning we kept bail too long hazard contract was far too long, but it was unforeseeable that he was going to be injured like that. Marcelo’s contract and contribution was far too long but he was the glue as well as casemiro that nurtured are young Brazilian talent show no love lost there. The ones that were the hardest to understand would be Dani Carvajal and Lucas Vazquez their contracts were far too long for their age, and that was due to them being longtime servants for the club and the accolades that they won with the club. How can you push out two players that have served diligently and without any issues? As well as they are club legends

    mbappe is an inverted left winger that`s where he is at his best ,so that will end Vini`s time at madrid or at least rodrigo not a good scenario and given how much he will cost the club and his manipulation of madrid before I see only a new Bale on our hands we would be better off buying a top striker or a left back

      he has transitioned to cf channels this season under luis enrique. Additionally vini and mbappe don't play similarly and Madrid don't play a fixed system but a relationistic system with players overlapping channels in crowded spaces. This actually makes mbappe and vini incredibly compatible. It will be bellimgham who will have to go to the modric style position instead. Real madrid play a totally unique style of football than rest of europe.

    • @fernandomartin6805
      @fernandomartin6805 Před 3 měsíci +3

      Maybe you should start checking the data. Look at the money spent by real Madrid and compare It to City, PSG and company. Then pay attention to the Transfer balance and the fact that Real Madrid can only spend as much as they generate. Real Madrid is signing good players and scouting as hell, but that doesnt mean they are capable of signing a (lets say) Kalvin Phillips for +80 million just to bench him. Even Nottingham Forrest is spending more than Real Madrid for the last 4 years, and we are talking about a mediocre team compared to the team with 14ucls that just won 4 in less than 10 years...
      Almost forgot: Vini, Valverde, Rodrygo or Militao were waaaay under their current value and level when they got signed. Achraf, odegaard, Kubo or Endrick are part of the same strategy. The only better team at scouting, signing and developing in Europe is Dortmund.
