    There is a nice trick to fend off khand. Take the settlement bellow the two osgiliaths, destroy all buildings and sell it to mordor. You won't see any khandish armies get in your way there as well as mordor will only be able to recruit trash. Also get one boat to be able to station the fort bellow the two osgiliaths, to get them in and out when you need them.

    As far as the overall campaign strategy goes for the early game, going your tactic of keeping Eastern Osgiliath under constant siege certainly works. However if you prolong this tactic for too many turns than you're simply allowing Mordor to grow more powerful for no reason. Instead you should focus on getting 2 full stacks filled with solid units(ideally no or very few militia tier units) and than push to both Minas Morgul and Moranon at the same time, taking them over and ready to defend against the doom stacks that will follow, thus needing 2 high quality full stacks before doing this. Than you clean up all the other Mordor settlements outside of Mordor proper, let Mordor constantly siege Moranon and fight defensive battles there whenever they storm your gates and hold the Minas Morgul fort instead of the city, allowing you to actually grow it as it becomes a pretty good city once you develop it, and gives you those nice Minas Ithil Guardians(2 handed sword units) once your culture is high enough(easy enough to do with spies).
    At this point you're basically done with Mordor, you just hold those 2 regions while you can focus elsewhere, say on Isengard, while continuing to build up your territory and getting to your elite troops. Than when you're good and ready you storm Mordor with the intent of finishing them off in 1 fell swoop.

    I know you've sailed past this episode but roads are super important for ethring, calembel, serelond and annulond. Those territories are huge and important to improve transport across for your plan. A military garrison at fanuilond and amrothian barracks in tarnost are necessities if a defensive battle is to be pitched in the south. I like the strat to hold in the east and south....nobody ever does it and so long as enedwaith doesn't replace isengard as your spam enemy it really will help the camp....you are just losing out on the full potential of osgiliath, minas ithil and ithilien regions for recruitment.

    This will sort out any early financial inconveniences you might face.

    • @epmtotalwar
      @epmtotalwar  Před měsícem +2

      No that isn't a rule and it doesn't feel wrong to me. If you want to role play your campaign with that rule go right ahead. The guardsmen and militia most likely wont form the core of aggressive forces but there may be some thrown in to any army to make up the numbers as would be the case in any army. An army is never all elites.

    @gkuhn2589 Před měsícem +1

    Turn 1 i see you have made the same mistake in your first Gondorian campaign sending the Fanuilond's militia unit to the Mordor front
    The Pelargir's unit must be send to protect the strait of Anduin.
    Pelargir is the recrutement center against Harad and Khand not Mordor because the troops need only one turn to go to the soutern front and 3 to the Mordor front .

    • @epmtotalwar
      @epmtotalwar  Před měsícem +2

      The southern front does not immediately require units. It would be one way to play hence it is a sandbox game. You don't leave yourself much room to move by using 'must'.

    • @gkuhn2589
      @gkuhn2589 Před měsícem +1

      @@epmtotalwar That is correct the southern front dont require units immediatly but the militia can go to the fort south of Fanuilond to be free upkeep
      You need units ready in the southern front at the turn 30 only the free upkeep in Fanuilond and in the fort near the settlement
      The units coming to the Mordor's front from the settlements south west of Minas Tirith need an armour upgrade before their arrival to the front they can have it in Minas Tirith

    I know that you have an unhealthy obsession with the garrison buildings, but especially with Gondor they're incredibly unnecessary. You only have 2 main cities to defend: East(and later west) Osgiliath and Cair Andros, so those places are where most of your troops are going to be anyway. The garrison building in Cair Andros shouldn't really do too much for you as the amount of times where the garrison building itself makes the difference between victory and defeat is so incredibly small that it's simply not something you should rely on as a crutch. Moreover it's an incredibly expensive building, especially for the benefits it provides(and the additional building upkeep too, can't forget that aspect) and especially with Gondor comes with a massive opportunity cost of not building up your other cities.
    If it were me I wouldn't have built the garrison building in Cair Andros on turn 1 and instead start getting Mason's Halls in the settlements you were going to build up first, so those with the best mines as well as the obvious ones like Minas Tirith. The Meeting Halls was a good move, yes, but in Callenhad specifically I would have gone Mason's Hall first since you will want to get the mine there ASAP so it's a city you're going to want to continuously build up ASAP.

    • @epmtotalwar
      @epmtotalwar  Před 13 dny +1

      Two tiers of garrison structures with no building hall cost 9000 gold and takes 13 turns. Bear in mind I get the benefit of the tier 1 garrison after 5 turns. This instantly supplies 3 gondor infantry tier units on every siege with no need for replenishment or upkeep costs. Perfect units to hold the line and deal damage against low tier Mordor units. Also, there is no need to worry about friendly fire from archers as they instantly are available again. The garrison structure build in Cair Andros do not cost me any income per turn as it only deducts from 'building income' and the only way castles can generate building income is from mines which are not in Cair Andros. Even if it did, my best mines at tier 2 only give 125 building income so the full -250 from the garrison wouldn't be deducted.
      To get access to gondor infantry form Cair Andros would cost 6800 and 12 turns. Then I'd have to recruit them, presumably a gondor infantry and a gondor spearman, that's another 1800 gold and 2 more turns. That's 14 turns and 8600 gold to get 2 units operational. These units will take attrition during sieges, they will cost upkeep (and if not them, other units likely the ithilien rangers which are 260 gold a turn). After 10 turns that is already another 2600 gold in upkeep to sustain 2 units. Then these units have to fight. They will likely get wiped out each battle or near enough to it. That will cost money to replenish if I even have the numbers to replenish. Then there is the issue of a back to back siege when I don't get to replenish, I don't have a frontline and my archers alone lose the battle.
      Now, as you watch this campaign, see how many times those garrison units are utilised. Every time they would have to be replenished (if I didn't lose the settlement) and upkeep paid for the additional forces. It is not a crutch, it is a factually, evidence based better decision.

    • @Owlr4ider
      @Owlr4ider Před 12 dny +1

      @@epmtotalwar Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying the garrison building is bad. All I'm saying is that building it as the absolute top priority in all border settlements isn't necessarily the best course of action. Your math is technically correct but is very much incomplete. Firstly, nothing says you must use Gondor infantry tier units in your defense right off the bat. In fact in the early game and against Mordor in particular the performance gap between the tier 1 and tier 2 Gondor infantry isn't so significant to make the militia units obsolete or anything. In fact these early game fights against Mordor are the best case scenario for your militia tier units.
      So it's not at all needed to get up to tier 2 infantry at Caer Andros itself(for free upkeep purposes, otherwise you can get it anywhere else) ASAP instead of the garrison. You can simply rely on your tier 1 militias, which are significantly cheaper and already available(you begin with a whole bunch of them across your entire kingdom) and even if you need say 4 of them instead of the 2 garrisons it's still perfectly fine. To put it in another way, you're starting with a significant starting army, spread across your entire kingdom. Letting them just sit around doing nothing is itself costing you money. Being in free upkeep areas reduces some of this lost money but doesn't eliminate it not all of your armies are in free upkeep(nor should they be, you need them where you need them after all), so adding the garrison building on top of that in the early game specifically is merely overkill.
      Than your math is missing the other important aspect that I mentioned, which is the opportunity cost. Instead of spending that 3k gold on the initial garrison building(and getting its construction delayed due to being under siege) you could have instead spent that 3k gold on either getting your economy buildings in your heartlands earlier or as I suggested got 2 or 3 Mason's Halls in key settlements, like the 2 with your best mines and either Minas Tirith itself or that 1 settlement in the south that gives you the most trade income, to get the jump start on developing those regions specifically to begin maximizing their potential earlier than normal.
      Lastly there's the overall strategic choice of continuing to defend Caer Andros and East Osgiliath for a significant amount of time as opposed to pushing into both Minas Morgul and Moranon ASAF(as soon as feasible rather than possible). As once you do that the garrison in Caer Andros becomes useless and all that money and time spent on both levels of it eventually worthless. So the question is how much did you really save from the garrison buildings considering the other options you had(rather than straight up comparison like you've done) as well as what you lost by not making other building choices instead. Of course there are positives and negatives to both approaches, all I'm saying is that it's not at all as clear cut as you tried to make it seem.
      Also as I said this is a trend that you do in a bunch of your campaigns(at least all of those that I begun watching the earlier episodes on). Caer Andros is the best case scenario for your approach and even than as I've shown it's not at all clear cut. In your other campaigns, Bree, Isengard, etc, the math is significantly worse than it is for Gondor and Caer Andros specifically, though all of those campaigns are obviously very different in terms of your starting situation and therefore the various variables(alternative options, opportunity costs, etc), all I'm saying is that it's something worth thinking about.
