I love how chill you were in this tbh, this is how I talk about the game with my friends. Also High Elves and Dunedain supremacy

The thing that pisses me of about Dunedain is extremely hard start. You are surrounded by enemies *Angmar, Goblins, Dunland and sometimes even Enedwaith joins....meanwhile your friends is just useless Bree and Imladris that does nothing except sitting in Rivendel.

Funnily enough, the start is easy for me, it gets tough around turn 60-100 for me when angmar is still a little annoying as well as dunland, then ered luin come for you half the time.

Mercenary Bree is actually overpowered. Readily available pikemen, more pikemen in the form of dunland pikes, dwarven siege engines, privateer cav, and westron defenders.
Pikemen are just broken in DaC due to their animations. They can hold elite units in place that no other militia tier unit can while still being relatively easy to recruit and retrain. Meanwhile, Dwarven catapults solve the issue of Great Beasts and trolls, and makes bridge battles a massacre. Heck you can attack the ai if they are on the bridge and still come out on top. Then there are the westron defenders, which are one of the best defender units in the game due to their shieldwall ability and spears, which makes them perfect chokepoint holders.

Ye in retrospect I’d say they should be lower for design quality

The biggest flaw with both Gondor and Dol Amroth Imho is simply that they're outclassed by the Northern Dunedain since they don't have an equivalent to the Reunited Kingdom. Why bother with Gondor/Dol Amroth when you can get all their best stuff and all the Arthadain stuff too? I mean yeah it's a much slower start but Aragorn's quest isn't too hard to accomplish and by the time you get Gondor(and Dol Amroth too as a bonus) the AI has already built them decently well so you don't have to pick and choose what to build where like in the standard Gondor campaign where you have many more provinces than money to spend building them, and of course also needing troops to hold off the endless hordes of Mordor. Especially if you include scripts in the rankings than Gondor should be downgraded to Dol Amroth's tier seeing that they don't really have good scripts. Gondor does have the Denethor thing but it's pretty insignificant and Dol Amroth has nothing(that I remember at least).
I think that the Anduin Vale is not nearly as bad as you made them out to be. No, you're not supposed to just sit there for 50 turns capturing the same settlement over and over again. You're supposed to commit to 1 of your enemies, and just hold off the other. Gundabad being the easier to destroy in terms of geography but also the harder ones in terms of the tactical battles, while Dol Guldur being easier in terms of tactical battles but harder in terms of geography(more provinces and much more spread out). That way you don't waste time doing what you described but instead actually get some forward momentum. Also their late game roster isn't that bad either. Is it the best? No. However they do have quite a few tier 3 units, it's just that you can't get all of them from the same province due to how their barracks works. But hey, at least none of those units are region locked so at the end of the day you do get a solid quantity of tier 3 units. In fact it's in tier 2 where they're struggling the most Imho rather than the late game as you're still suffering from the barracks split but not yet have the province quantity(and quality) to maximize your recruitment yet.
As for Lothlorien, yes you can absolutely rush Dol Guldur at the start, however that's far from the game over you make it seem. Dol Guldur still has a ton of other provinces and will continue to send hordes of trash at you. Also remember that the first time you get them to 3 provinces or less they will spawn their emergency doom stack, which can be a pain as the Elven factions have the slowest recruitment of all the races so it's not trivial to replenish losses and even garbage troops, in high enough numbers, will cause you losses. In fact it's for this reason why I actually think the Woodland Realm is easier than Lothlorien, as you get easier access to the bulk of Dol Guldur's provinces so that by the time you get to Dol Guldur itself you know it's their final stronghold, and you don't really have any other faction to threaten you unlike Lothlorien and Isengard or even the Goblins under certain circumstances. Anyway they're both very well designed factions Imho and their script is 1 of the better ones, a very meaningful choice, as impactful as Dorwinion's Imho. You get a similar impact on your unit roster, though 1 choice is skewed towards fewer more elite troops while the other more mid-tier troops, which are still plenty powerful mind you, from the opposite faction, unlike Dorwinion's more neutral choice in terms of power level, it's mostly a flavor difference and which elite units you prefer. But than you also get the choice between a very powerful unique building and the provinces of the opposite faction that you merged with(and the unique building in their starting settlement as they both have one).
Yes, Angmar is indeed very cancerous when playing against them. However playing as them, well they're an easy faction, but not the only easy faction out there. Ered Luin comes to mind as perhaps the easiest faction of them all by virtue of having no enemies for miles(closest one is actually Angmar, unless you take the ring that is) and an insanely powerful Dwarven unit roster. Angmar's unit roster is powerful, yes, but like all evil factions it's weaker than the goodie two shoes' alternatives. So it's not exceptionally strong or anything. Also why did you forget that your main enemy is not the High Elves but the Northern Dunedain(who actually benefit tremendously from the auto expand feature)? Are they hard to beat? Well, no, it's still an easy faction, but there's nothing wrong with having a few easy factions to play. Also, in terms of lore, while it's true that in the setting of the mod, Angmar should have already been destroyed and the Witch King returned to Mordor, since you favored other lore inaccuracies like the Ar Ardunaim than resurrecting Angmar to their prime days for the sake of game play is not an awful choice. Remember that at Angmar's height in the lore it completely destroyed the kingdom of Arnor(first by splitting it in 3 than corrupting 1 and destroying the other 2) and the entire region of Eregion at large, leaving only the High Elven strongholds(and technically the shire as the Witch King simply didn't care about it) in tact. Since this is the version of Angmar the mod brought back in, its power level seems rather appropriate.

You should try a fun short little campaign where u rush Angmar as Snow orcs or vice versa, also it is as fun as Wood elves just abandon the forest and rush both Snow orcs and Angmar.
Overall I disagree with one ranking and that is Ar-Adunaim that their units look like trash in DAC 5.0, their units look much better in 4.6 version. 5.0 is just blob of black boring unit design. When it comes to Harad the way I do that campaign I took the castle settlement to the north and the city to the east and rush ar-Adunaim and kill them before the Variags can betray you. Maybe that is also flaw of Harad campaing, you are too week and ar-Adunaim just dont want anything do with you just eat you. Instead of fighting Gondor I always fight them and Variags before I can turn to Gondor.

Great video! Only changes I would make is Dorwinion into perfectly designed (just my favourite faction) and Dunland into either great or good design. They’ve had a lot of changes in V5.
Edit… also if you love Rhun you should try the expanded unit mod. Ridiculously good units!

Don't disrespect Dunland like that. So much stuff was changed in V5. Roster is fun, scripts are very fun, Isengard is locked in it's starting province and you now can solo Rohan, which is pretty fun, not gonna lie.
If this were Dunland in V4 then I would agree but I would put V5 dunland on top of good design or low great design.

To be honest they kind of overtuned them in v5, like the roster has no excuse to be that good, in the span of like 60 turns you turn them from neanthertals running around with sticks and slings to proffecional heavy infantry that can mop the floor with gondor

Dunland had their best feature robbed off of them by Bree. The generals used to have the armour breaking feature but it was removed & given to Bree generals - which breaks the lore a little, too. At least they both could have kept this feature.

I would also put Mordor into WTF category becouse of one thing...the Great beasts. if you play any good faction that is not close to Mordor to fight them yourself. then Gondor will lose 99% of battles and Mordor just takes entire map in a few turns. Mumakill is okay becouse it is rare but MOrdor AI after turn 70 will just put great beasts into every full stack they have and just goooo

I am not as much of a veteran as you are with DaC since I have only played with half of these factions for a total of a couple hundred hours but I agree with you that the Remnants of Angmar are far to strong. I am currently playing as the Dwarves of Ered Luin (in the "boring way") and fighting Angmar is like fighting Mordor but in the north. That should not be the case in my opinion. Like you said their early game units are far to strong and are comparrable with the soldiers of Rhûn and not those of Mordor, their enemies are to weak early game and the AI Angmar get to many settlements from auto-expanssion. I do love the THEME with Angmar where their armies consits of Northmen fighting together with a handful of Orcs and Trolls, but they are to busted.
My solution would be to tweak Angmar's early game unit's sats ever so slightly (1 or 2 less attack or defence), give more settlements to their enemies in the auto expanssion when you play as Angmar and give Angmar fewer settlements when the AI is in controll of them.
But Good video! I am looking forward to see you get 15 000 likes and, subsequently, see you steamroll Eriador with The Remnants Angmar :)

    • @wolflaf911
      @wolflaf911  Před 3 měsíci +1

I think their units are awesome, and I’ll definitely be ranking them higher when I do a power based ranking, but I think that their design as a faction definitely has some flaws, I do agree there are challenges with the wooded areas you’re fighting in but overall they can easily steamroll dol Gol dur and generally the dwarves can take care of Gundabad pitting them in an overall slightly too strong position for what it should be as in the lore and overall design

I actually like Angmar after their human orc hybrid update, they felt really hard and weird as an orc fashion when they were just orc trash with gundabad, they did alot of work with the faction since. I really enjoy Agandaur from War I'm the North, Barrow Wrights, and witch king all are cool things, and Elves and Ered Luin are a decent challenge, I will say Northern Dunedain need some more love when it comes to what they have to use against such reckless hate when evil men and orcs shittin out of angmar
