- Rome Remastered has come a long way since its release. Yes it still has an overcomplicated UI that puts me off as well. But one of the biggest positive outcomes of the remaster has been to see a robust modding community port mods over from the original, often improving on them as well as creating new mods that have truly been revolutionary.
Today I want to talk about the 5 best mods that I honestly think are worth buying the game for. These are mods that overhaul the game into what I think a more modernised Rome Total War should be, bigger maps, more cultures, religions, economic mechanics, new settings, we’ve got it all here. And I think by the end of the video you’ll want to check them out too.
Hope you enjoyed watching it and found it informative. If you did give it a like and drop any comments or questions below let me know if you agree with my top 5 mods for Total War: Rome Remastered. Subscribe to the channel for more total war content just like this. And thanks for watching guys!

I would like to give a shout out to JaceX who continued to build on Rome Retrofits factions mod with his Rome Expanded mod. This has Rome 2 factions, and gives both Rome and Carthage the Senate faction plus the three houses. For me its basically Rome Vanilla as it should have been remastered from the start. And for me, it has the vanilla map, which honestly I think makes the game more accessible. If I want a large Imperator Rome map, I´ll install that game instead. TW games were never designed with that scale and scope in mind which I think does maps show.
I am a fan of remaster but that UI is ridiculously ugly.
It’s literal mobile game tier
Unplayable for me tbh. Hope someone is able to fix it one day
@@xXSirKRXx..Really? The UI makes it "unplayable"?
@@charlesmiv3842 literally, no. But as far as trying to have an enjoyable experience, yes.
@@xXSirKRXxidk man. UI seems acceptable to me. I mean it's nothing groundbreaking, but it's fine.
Rome retrofit is probably the best mod I’ve played for RTW remastered. It’s the best vanilla plus experience simply because the modders didn’t get carried away trying to create a new game. It’s basically Rome Total War perfected. You can unlock all the factions (some great campaigns as Athens, Syracuse, Judea etc to be had) and there’s a lot of nice tweaks that have no real bearing on gameplay but gives the start of the campaign a nice feel. The restraint of the modders is their biggest quality.
If only the uiwas modded
My favourite is 77bc.
I agree with you! Rome Retrofit is the perfect mod! It is simply Rome 2 in Rome 1 (Which is simply PERFECTION), and it feels finished. Very underrated mod!
Awesome Video and praise to all the mods+modders out there!
Thank you for covering my mod in dept and prominant position!
god sir terminater can you tell what are did you use for the thumbnail, looks like an awesome background!!! great vids as usual
Should've mentioned Lanjane's Barbarian Empires and Danymok's Rosters Expanded, imo the first brings the vanilla feel, the second rome2 unit diversity in RR style
I wish imperium surrectum mod would have a map campaign more like vanilla. I hate the 1800 settlement campaign. It’s massive with not many factions to make it alive.
The dev team is aware of that. Keep an eye to the submods when the latest version is stable, I am sure there will be something to find.
@@TheExi123 I sure hope so! The units in the mod look really awesome and detailed.
I'm playing IS with the Trinovantes . RTRIS is awesome!
If possible, I would like to see a review of the bronze age mod on your channel.
Could be better than Troy or Pharaoh.
bought the remaster just to play RTR and I regret nothing, it's a crashfest but totally worth it
Crashes will be fixed in the next patch :)
@@jottXDwell I'm not going to expect them to fix everything, new content = new potential crashes after all, still happy to be patient and enjoy things as they are.
When will the update launch??@@jottXD
@@________7811 today it has launched
@@________7811yesterday :D
Are there any overhauls for BI?
Someone with Modding skills needs to port Viking Age Total War from Barbarian invasion. Is a really unique story time and could add in so much with what Rome remastered provides
Mundum Vincere makes use of Imperatoris Mundi.
"Just Rome Total war thing:Senate mission take Halicarnasus you have 5 turns to do it...."
i would love to have a combination of Rome 2 with the map of imperium surrectum and the building system of rome 1 and divide et impera that would be the ultimate game for me
I really wish to make it able to control 2 armies, just like in Rome 2. To be able as player to control yourself the reinforcements. Now that would be fun.
I just want a mod that converts the UI back to the original 🥲
man from what ive seen from these mods i feel like ca is missing out a opportunities and dont hire these modders for total war games
400+ hrs in remastered all of them in glory of rome, my hatts off to the modder!
man we need also barbarian invasion overhaul mods!!!!
Hi there, Termi!
Would you please be interested in making a video on the progress of the Ancient Empires mod for Attila? As well as a Fireforged Empire mod review and maybe some MK1212 content, if there's anything worth mentioning :)
I thought Ancient Empires was dead?
Yeah there’s no new updates for Ancient Empires though there is a bit of a successor with Classical Empires mod which is on my list. Fireforged I may take a look at again and MK1212 still waiting on news really :/
@@TheTerminatorGaming right, I meant the Classical Empires, my bad ;)
Glory of Rome looks great! 👍
Thank you! Doing my best 😉
Anybody know how to deal with hundreds of provinces? Is auto manage the way to go? Cause in some of these I spend all day managing all of my city’s.
expeditions rome theme is somthing else do
RIS just had a huge update if no one has tried it. Came out yesterday I believe!
Not sure it's the right niche but if anyone's interested in hardcore Ancient warfare from a PhD in military history & a TW modder I strongly recommend Schwerpunkt's videos series

Lol schwerpunkt needs to realize nobody knows who he is
Any mod which returns the old UI?
If the community could also remake the ww2 mod (totalwar 1942) in the original RTW it could be hilarious.
About Mundi and Surrectum. Surrectum have Mauryans. But without India it's boring.
Kirsi has an even bigger map now
Why is the map of Imperatoris Mundi tilted? That would be the main reason for me not using it in any mod.
Love the channel and mod reviews. Its an - sill- ery
Edit: i only have one problem with the remaster. I will never pay full price for a CA game or DLC ever 😅
i not really understand, that most modders can change models, textures, sound, and even the campaing mission part, but why dont they try to change the animations? adding new killing, running idle and so on ?
is there no mod that reverts the ui to the original?
is there a way to fix the UI and building browser, those are abysmal in Remastered
Don’t believe there is :/
Yeah wanted to ask.. isnt there a mod for rome2 to give more provinces to conquer&defend? More little cities that has garrisons and economy
12:34 No more Bronze Age! Between Troy, Pharaoh, and Bronze Age just kinda sucking, I think we're good.
I wish there was a historical armor reskin that reskins all armors to be more culturally or historically accurate, with tons of variation in units. That's all I want-
Thats just RTR lol
@@Kogasengaha_Hishoshi Yeah, but I want something closer to the native experience too, not an entire overhaul. So closer to Hold the Line Historical roman reskin or something.
@@saber2802 Yeah I get that too. Thats me and barbarian empires with OG reskins. But goddamn 12 turns don't work lol And also would love RTR's map in Barb empires.
When will be get a entire world total war I want all of europe africa asia north america and south america if they made that the size of the warhammer immortal empires map it would be massive prolly bigger then any other game
Is there a mod make rome 2 have campaign like total war Attila??
Pirating has always been an option.
I love RIS:RTR but the map is just too huge for my taste now... i can play for 100 turns and barely meet any other faction.
I am playing Rise of Persia atm and i really dig it.
When Medieval 2 remaster? I hope ASAP
Is there a mod that returns the old desaturated map of RTW?
Hmm not sure there is
8:50 yeah, but England looks pretty empty with only one fraction.
Playing as the Seleucids looks like a nightmare. Having so many regions right from the start means a lot of rebellions:D
Still I wish there would be a ui mod which gives us the original Rome TW ui back.
from my understanding we have to wait for them to expand upon the various tribes in the region in incremental updates, it'd be pretty boring to play there for now sure, but right now they are working on Illyria and it'd perfectly tell you WHY it's not out yet, all Illyrian factions appear to have unique units and style to them that doesn't exist even in Rome II, let alone Rome I, if you enjoy the Antigonid region that is easily the most fleshed out right now and is leagues bigger than anything I've played before.
The huge map doesn't really work, along with scripted garrisons. it's never ending sieges and boring gameplay.
Modder's Megalomania all over the place!
Ehhh, the map size of Roma Surrectum is extra.
But otherwise, totally agree with your picks!
Anyone with recommendations for mods that doesnt bring in 1000 settlements. Its too much for me?
I got my sister pregnant, but this message will be lost in the crowd
manor lords update vid. when?!
Soon ❤️
Seriously though, why would I play this over modded Rome II?
Buy remaster to support Historical games.
You don't gotta play it
There is Europa Barbarorum revamped that adds India
Lanjanes barbarian empires is by far the best mod on the remaster rn!
also the Imperium surectum mod while it is truly cool! it has constant crashes that make the game unplayable, by turn 80 you will have more crashes than turns and nobody seems to mention this in their perfect reviews of the mod..!
playing lanjanes beta version of the mod that came out a while ago and i haven't experienced a single crash so far.. so yeah mods are awesome but if they crash every two battles it sucks
These crashes are connected to the emergent factions and will be fixed in the next patch :)
@@jottXD i don't care about the next patch bruh, i totally understand the mod is still in beta and the developers want to add 1000 more stuff and polish it, i care that everyone talks about surectum like its the mod of the gods all this time its out! and NOBODY seems to mention the mod crashes more often than Russian car drivers, advertisement is one thing but at least be fucking honest about the current state of the mod when you review it.
Has it occurred to *anyone* to expand/fill the map with more detail than vanilla *without* having cities so close together that you’re not just siege-hopping?
Seriously, some modders need to wake up to what’s actually fun to play, and make a reasonable compromise between detail and playability on a scaled up map.
I wonder if they would do RTR IS for Rome 2.
You can't mod the map in Rome 2 as far as I know, so it's pretty hard capped.
@@charlesmiv3842 Normally i would agree... but then you look like Dawnless Days
@@rick80234 Yeah, but who knows how far away from release Dawnless Days is. Also, even with those tools, R2 still doesn't allow the same magnitude of modding like rome remastered
Honestly I do not like when there is too many regions on the map. It's really boring when you conquering 800 cities. The mod I can even pay for is the mod of fight animations from Rome 2 to Remaster. Or I wish to plany on awesome graphics mod. I need something fresh, not just the new units or bigger map.
One of the biggest pitfalls in total war mods is modders adding hundreds of regions. It just makes it even easier for the player to steamroll unless you balance things which ends up bringing its own load of jank. Then of course you have the problem of siege after siege after siege after siege. So many great mods have problems like this, napoleon and empire suffer from having to deal with 70000 unit types of the exact same unit with different skins for example
The fight animations ruined melee combat and turned it into a glitchy sliding blob fest. Unless you could put in animations the same way Med 2 did them don't even bother.
Almost all of these mods add a billion settlements which makes the game totally unplayable after 30-40 turns.
It is so disappointing that so many modders are so obsessed with needlessly adding more and more settlements to the map for no real reason other that it's historical or look at my map it's bigger than your map. Nobody stops to think if the extra settlements add anything to the game play or that it turns game into a massive slog fest where you manage hundreds of cities and fight dozens of stacks per turn and every battle is a siege. Such a horrible experience.
So it seems like Total War fans are either mad that there isn't enough settlements, or mad that there are too many.
RTW modder "try to make a map smaller than 45% of the actual world" challenge (literally impossible)
no clue why Israel is not a faction in this game, vanilla or otherwise, they were a nation at the time since Greece is already around and recently destroyed since his generals carved up his lands but alexander did not topple them since he took a liking due to learning of prophecy in destroying Persia, I would love to play a total war game as Israel or the founders of Russia vs the many Mongolian kingdoms in the further east like in Age of Empires 4
Judea can be an emergent faction since the Maccabean revolt takes place in 167 BC and the game starts in 270 BC
just a question, why would you play this game when we have a rome2?
armies don´t need generals to move on the map, every city can develope every building, battles with gravity and mass effect, no limitations for: buildings, regions ,religions, units and cultures.
For me, they scratch different itches. Sometimes, I want to play DEI (the only way I play Rome II) for recruitment mechanics and larger/more detailed map. But there’s something special about armies not being attached to generals and having each settlement be its own standalone thing. It’s up to you to specialize a settlement, and to choose its garrison. And finally, because I think the Rome 1 army system is better. Those smaller skirmishes of 5 v 5 and 10 v 10 versus constant 20 v 20 battles feel different and overall add more variety.
I could go on, but at the end of the day, it’s a matter of preference.
Because Rome two is dogshit lmao.
Because Rome Remastered is infinitely more moddable than Rome 2
i bought Rome Remastered played for 1000 hs....then i said im gonna buy Rome 2 it's gonna be awesome for sure....i played 10 minutes and uninstalled after.

Andy and other TW shillers are awful. The game is basically dead since warhammer 1.😊
Less dead than Pharaoh 😆
