@brendamurithi_Kari, this take is incredibly uninformed. Just because a brand doesn't offer a certain size doesn't mean they are discriminating.
To offer a product to the public, you must afford the manufacturing cost. There's something known as economies of scale, which implies that when you order a large quantity of a product, the price decreases.
For this system to be efficient, you must sell that inventory. If it does not sell, the company is left with a significant amount of product, preventing them from creating new SKUs for their majority customer base.
With that logic, would McDonald's be discriminating against Asians for not offering sushi rolls?
Like many others actively looking for solutions rather than spreading senseless ignorance, there are countless brands that cater to a specific size, and their entire inventory serves that customer base. And, just as before, if those companies offered a smaller size, they would literally sit on that inventory forever.

As a 20-something I had to drive 300 miles to reach a store that carried my size, and trust me, they did not cater to 20-something women. So I absolutely get people's frustration about clothing lines not carrying their size.
Now, that all said, I don't think this guy said anything wrong in the first vid. It's what he didn't say that was the problem. He spoke to his audience in the same way that he speaks to himself, and he should've made that clear. He responds to a certain level of self directed harshness, and that's not going to go down well with a lot of people. If he'd simply said 'this is how I deal with that sort of thing' I think it would've been better understood.

In the end, he was right. Businesses are going to do what they're going to do. End story. And dwelling on the negativity of frustration about that fact can be detrimental to your mental health. So if it is, don't dwell. Move on. But if you've got the strength to challenge it. Go for it.

Also a huge problem is that brands choosing to not make plus size clothing means that less brands will do it. Brands tend to look to other brands for what to do, and if they see that no other place does plus size, why would they themselves bother to? Im not even that big, but i still have a hard time finding clothes that actually fit me well, like finding something as simple as bras is a nightmare because i happen to have a big rincage. Its not that the cups or anything else is too small, its that the bra itself is not big enough to fit around my ribcage without compromising cup size. People saying that is on me for being "plus size" are fucking stupid because those are my bones, i canr exactly just lose weight and make them change their shape.

  • @android17lover

My main problem with this is the fact of, yes, brands are allowed to make whatever sizes they want, but my problem lies in the fact that you almost NEVER see this when it comes to plus size stores. I have shopped with friends at plus sized stores (i'm small/average sized but I like the accessories), and found things that fit me easy. There are plenty of plus size stores that still carry clothing for small people. And when they don't, no one defends these stores when people write hateful things about not having things in smaller sizes. It's a double standard.
Not only that, but to the argument of "the style doesn't fit your body type", has never stopped companies from making clothes to fit smaller people, even though the design isn't flattering on smaller bodies.

I'm also a 5'10" woman, and yes!! This!!
I also wear a size 13 women's shoe and it makes me actually angry at this point when I see a store say they cater to "all sizes" and have shoes for "even the most hard to fit sizes", and they use that fact in their marketing - and I go in and their biggest women's size is 10. Which is a completely normal size. Like it's just genuinely infuriating at this point. I've honestly had to adopt the same viewpoint as the guy in the video and just try to let it go. I can't change my height or my shoe size, so being angry about it does nothing for my mental health. I adapted to dressing more androgenously so I could get away with wearing men's clothes and shoes, and I can live with that. It works for me. I'd love to wear more cute stuff, and be able to walk into any store and find something for me, but it is what it is.
I also used to be obese, and I know what it's like trying to find good plus size stuff. But honestly I still have a much more difficult time overall with the height and shoes. There's really just nobody out here fighting for body positivity to expand to those realms anytime soon.

Tbh I think it’s honestly because most designers don’t even think to design with that in mind. So what the garment looks like on a sample or smaller size won’t even look the same on plus size bodies. And only a handful of brands design accordingly from the start. They whip out quick designs and they see it as more work to consider how it will fall on various body types, which is lazy. Some high end brands literally only cater to 0-4 because they ONLY design the garment to fall one way. I definitely see that as lazy and cheap of them. Less work and quicker turnout for them.

Everything is too long or makes me look like a child trying on my parents clothes lol 😂 I do understand his point though, there's no point dwelling on things that aren't made for someone my size and shape. I might struggle to find things but I just have to realise that most brands cater for what they deem is average sizing. Or if it's casual wear I can just buy kids clothes hahaha, the cheaper shoes are a bonus 😊

I'm 5'10" so I have the opposite but same problem, and I completely agree with you! I've been obese, and I still found being tall to be the bigger issue for me when finding cute clothes. Also having larger feet - especially while living in a country where most of the larger size shoe store sites don't ship to.
I've just gotten used to pants that hit well above my ankles, and wearing men's shirts and shoes.
I physically can't change my height or the size of my feet. I can get mad, I can get discouraged, but ultimately I can't really do anything about it except adapt and preserve my mental health, and support the brands that aim to keep people like me in mind. I have definitely had similar thoughts to the guy in the video, and I fully understand where he was coming from.

Some people cannot lose weight no matter how they try. A lot of folks also don't have access to gym equipment and they don't have time to take walks. Poor folks especially have a harder time, since healthier food is expensive, and a lot of people work 2-3 jobs just to make ends meet, especially if they have children. Race, LGBTQ+ folks, medical history, and mental illness have a huge impact on quality of life.
There's a ton of nuance. Brands obviously are going to do whatever they want, but people have a right to criticize because oftentimes, it's not "Just lose weight!" A lot of people have a hard time. Brands could make a lot more money if they expanded their size range and made it look nice. The bigger the size, the frumpier clothes get. (Same thing with bras.)

If you go to the plus size section of well known brands the clothes fit like potato sacks. Im not offended or upset. I do however have a issue with companies making stuff for adults and children with disabilities then charging a ridiculous amount. The stomach area of the clothing might fit perfect, but the arms, neck, leg areas always fit really wrong. So I kind of appreciate that not every shop in the world sells plus size clothing, because otherwise we'd all waste so much money. The gentleman is completely right the problem is he has too much arrogance in his delivery so firstly I will say I am a black Muslim not all make up hair care or skincare brands make products for myself and that is completely fine they don’t have to I just spend my money elsewhere they say get in the way you fit in right and then secondly as a Muslim basic sweets I can’t even fight because they contain gelatin should I now contact every single brand and start saying why do you not make sweets just for me or just for Muslims it’s ridiculous not everything is for everyone and that is fine
But we should still have manners when we speak to people

I'm not quite sure what the issue here is. He's very clear and concise; if something doesn't flatter you, why wear it? Why go after brands who CLEARLY don't cater TO YOU?
Forcing people to adhere to YOU isn't how the world works. You aren't the god damn sun. You have to adapt. I have a bit of pudge at the stomach area; I wear just lose enough clothing that hide that and still flatter me. Sometimes I'll wear form fitting stuff because who cares honestly? If you felt called out by this tiktok, that's really a YOU problem.

Which. Is pretty cruel and rude!

How dare people who are a bigger size _wants something nice_

Also companies not making proper and nice clothing for plus sized people, or catering to them at all. Is why shein is so popular with people who have extra body fat BECAUSE THEY CAN ACTUALLY FIND CLOTHES THERE
Theyre adapting. But it hurts everyone because frankly, society deems fat people as lesser. Less worthy of respect. Of being treated decently.

To be honest, this mostly feels like this guy was frustrated about something and decided to make a TikTok - ostensibly for others - about it to vent. Like if saying triggering things to himself is a coping mechanism for him, that's great, I'm glad he has one that works for him, but I'm not sure why he needed to do this publicly.
Also this is mostly a nitpick, but the whole "clothing brands not having your size is a small problem relative to other things happening in the world" point from his original video really feels like a Clickhole Selfish: This Man Found Time To Build A Birdhouse While JonBenét Ramsey’s Murder Is Still Unsolved moment.

My issue with clothing sizes is that it's mostly online that does my size, which is a problem when the items come and the sizing is off from store to store or product to product. The amount of times I've had to order different plain black pants online for work, and they all end up too big or too small. I just wish i could walk into a local store and have something for me there that I can see with my eyes before buying ya kow.

if a brand doesn't make something in your size then move on to a different brand? it's not a difficult concept. i no longer fit into forever 21's clothes, so i no longer buy their clothes? i've never once bitched about it online!

I used to be over 300 lbs and I believed then that plus sized clothing was just badly sized and designed. Then I lost the weight and I discovered ALL mass produced clothing is badly sized. It all sucks. I'm in "straight" sizes now. It's still a pain in the ass to find clothes that fit me. If I don't make it myself it's going to fit badly in some area.

One thing I can recommend is to get yourself a tailor regardless of your body size or learn how to do basic sewing adjustments. Back in the day people would have their clothes altered to fit them that's why they all looked posh and beautiful. RTW (ready to wear) clothes are nothing but mass produced clothing to fit "all sizes" which isn't true. That's why trailors are around for clothes alteration.

3:16 I worked importing goods for a well known luxury retailer. I worked the Asian and Italian lane of traffic. When having the size issue brought up at the factory they explained it quite simply. (It might not be the answer you seek but it’s what I was told many many times) They do a run from 0-16. Some even go 000-24. Now from the manufacturing standpoint and cost effectiveness it doesn’t make sense to manufacture clothing items higher than a 24/26 because those items don’t usually sell. There’s not many people sized 24/26 buying $500 shirts or whatever. They would have to eat a huge loss because now they have an item that cost more to manufacture in that it uses more fabric and materials that they didn’t sell and still doesn’t sell marked down to 75% which is a huge loss. There are shops that sell to larger sizes specifically. They manufacture clothing sized 14-40 something. Now me, being a size 6 can’t buy anything in there but I’m not pissed off about it. I used to be a size 24. I worked my butt off for almost 2 years and lost 147 lbs and kept it off for 13 years now. Being angry because every store doesn’t sell your size is like being mad everyone can’t buy a Ferrari. You have to work for a Ferrari, just like you have to work at everything in life. If you don’t like the styles maybe think about learning to sew? Design for others. Maybe have a shop or E-store. Ugggh I don’t have enough words to express how two way street society is today…. This “you need to hear me and care about my feelings yet I blatantly don’t care about what you think or feel” has to stop.
