    Nice build Keith. That pan is awesome!
    Nice to have my thoughts confirmed on the ruddervators too. I couldn’t get anywhere near the manual recommended 10mm of throw. Think I’ll be going for that second hole too, and boosting the servo outputs to 120%. Maybe even adjust the mixer to give more yaw authority.

    • @bonafidepirate
      @bonafidepirate  Před 2 lety +1

      Thanks! Yeah when I first flew it, the pitch control was very weak, it took full stick to get any real response from it... lol It feels a lot better now. I found the roll was way too touchy even with the linkages moved for minumum throw. Setting the manual rates for 85% tamed that right down though. It's a nice flying little plane once it's all set up how I like it.

    Brilliant video! I now own a Zohd drift and really love it, but I am looking for a similar plane with more space in the fuselage and that also runs on a 2s lionpack. I think this may be the plane I am looking for. Thanks for this amazing video!

  • @Onefgear
    @Onefgear Před 2 lety

    Great video! One quick note: With CRSF and Inav 3.0 - 2.6, the regular RSSI is the same as crsf LQ. Both show LQ. Starting from 3.1, the regular RSSI will be based on signal strength instead of the "old" LQ fix.

    • @bonafidepirate
      @bonafidepirate  Před 2 lety

      So you're saying the default "normal" RSSI reading is just showing the same thing as the LQ item on OSD? I wasn't sure what the normal RSSI item was showing with Crossfire. I've seen them reading slightly different numbers, but they generally do stay pretty close to the same thing. (This is 3.0.1) If they are the same I'll just remove one and get rid of the redundancy... lol

    • @bonafidepirate
      @bonafidepirate  Před 2 lety

      OK, just went and learned more about the auto RSSI stuff... lol Yay Darren for explaining things! ;) czcams.com/video/s0UG0LxWI44/video.html So it seems I am just showing the same LQ twice the way I have it set up. Once in the auto RSSI source, and again in the specific OSD item for CRSF LQ. I'll sort that out then!

    • @Onefgear
      @Onefgear Před 2 lety

      @@bonafidepirate yup. That rssi solution was to show LQ in the OSD. From 2.6 and up rssi, LQ and SNR come straight from Crsf. I use dBm rssi, LQ and SNR alarm set at 4. For 3.1 I added normal rssi to be from signal strength in percentage.

    On my zohd drift build I did install a 12v 20mm fan on the vtx, because it gets v hot and shuts off, just couldn’t get good air flow to it. With the fan mod I’ve never had a shut down.

    • @bonafidepirate
      @bonafidepirate  Před 2 lety

      I've flown this one, and the Dart 250 a couple times over the past couple of days trying out the heat sinks, they work well! The vTX comes down cool every time despite the actual temps outside in the upper 90s. The Dart's vTX doesn't have smart audio set up, so it runs at full power all the time. It gets hot before taking off but cools back down in flight. I need to set up soft serial to use smart audio on that one so it can run low power until I arm... lol UARTs are limited on the F411-WSE in there.

    I just found this video. I'm impressed on how stable it flies compared to my original Nano Talon. Could you please share your v tail mix settings? On mine I use 100% stabilized pitch and 50% stabilized yaw but l'm considering using RC yaw instead because I suspect that it may be the FC controlling the yaw that's causing the Dutch roll wobbles.

      Mine set up with 50% pitch and 50% yaw, both stabilized. Here's a complete dump from 3.0.1 that's currently installed in it, if you want to look through it. • @bonafidepirate
      @bonafidepirate  Před 2 lety

      Light wind seems fine, I flew it in about 10mph wind a few days ago and it got thrown around pretty good. It does good for what it is, but it's always going to be a small/light plane... lol I saw some reports of this FC going up in smoke too, at least two of them came back later and said they'd messed up when soldering leads on and the solder contacted the board above. It is rather tight in there and probably an easy mistake to make. So far I haven't had any problems with this one, other than the bluetooth adapter not working reliably in Windows. It does seem fine with Android and the Speedy Bee app though, so I guess that's good... lol

    Cool, planning to buy this or dart 250 after seeing your videos. How did you set pwm pulse for servo from 500 - 2500?

    • @bonafidepirate
      @bonafidepirate  Před 2 lety

      On the outputs tab in iNav configurator, you'll notice the MIN and MAX for all servos default to 1000 and 2000. These are pretty much the same thing as setting endpoints in your radio if you were driving the servo directly off a receiver. The lowest MIN value allowed in iNav is 500, and highest MAX is 2500. I just changed the one for my pan servo which is plugged into the S6 output on my FC. All the others are control surfaces and set up normally. I'm not sure if all servos will accept that wide of a range, if not you may need to play with the values to see what it will work with.

    how do you connect that race star f405 mini via bluetooth? How long is the timeflight on this thing?

    • @bonafidepirate
      @bonafidepirate  Před 2 lety

      When powered up, it shows up as two bluetooth devices. One called "inav" with no pin, another called "ardupilot" with a pin "1234". I can see those, most of the time, and something they'll pair and connect. When they do you'll get a serial port showing on the PC. (two actually) Connect to that like normal, with a baud rate of 57600 and it should work. In iNav, you'll see UART1 has MSP turned on, that's hard wired to the bluetooth adapter. That's how it's all supposed to work at least... lol

      The GT Rebel flies great but is not as durable as I'd like. Because of the big square front, if you nose in at all it catches and breaks the nose pretty easily. Or if the ground is soft or muddy it's just like a big shovel. On the other hand if you do the opposite and the tail drags at all it'll break the little foam fins on the back. They send the extra for a reason!

    • @bonafidepirate
      @bonafidepirate  Před 2 lety +3

      This small one is pretty neat, just for the novelty factor of having such a small full featured and fully capable FPV plane... lol With the larger ones you'll have a lot more options for what gear you want to build it up with, and gear placement too. If you want the small one, or need to keep it this small for some reason, it will get it done. Otherwise I'd probably go for a bigger one. Even the Nano Talon will be a bit easier to fit with a wider variety of FPV gear. The OG Mini Talon has a long proven record of being a capable plane that works. I haven't tried the V2 of that yet. The Talon Rebel GT is nice in the air, but I don't like the nose on it, and I found it somewhat difficult to launch and get it flying unless I kept it light with a smaller battery. I've also never flown the full size 1718mm Talon. One thing is for sure though, there's a Talon for just about everyone! lol
