Since I switched over to Walksnail last month, I've been asking myself:
_"Self, how could I make my VTx run _*_even hotter?"_*
Now I know! ô¿ô
Thanks BonafidePirate!
It's funny, I've actually been impressed with the temperatures I'm seeing in flight. I'm logging the debug info while flying so I can go back and look at different parameters, one of which is the temperature for the VRX and VTX. The transmitter has been running cooler than the receiver, which isn't something I expected to be honest... lol
flipping NICE!! we need a full build tutorial on the MFD setup. ive always been scared and never committed
I bought one couple years ago, never got it to work properly :(
I'll definitely show more about the tracker soon, a small group of us are working with MFD and ELRS to try to improve compatibility with that, but it's been working great with Dragonlink using Mavlink so far. (Well, they are working to improve it, I'm just one of the pilots testing and providing feedback... lol)
Whoa. Caddx is really kicking off at the moment.
But will it actually work
Always has been
Yeah sure they release a new product every week. But they never fix the issues with their old products. Just keep dumping more onto the market. They get things to 80%, then say, good enough. I like WS but feel like they could do better.
@@xBarnabyJonesx They are the only company that can step to DJI. I'm still flying the WS VRX v1 and it's fantastic with no problems once you get good antennas.
Even fatshark can't make good goggles with no issues after many years. issues with new products is expected. what's not expected is DJI to care about FPV at all. WS is all in on the hobby and innovations. Love that.
I just got home from work. I got the email they released it, so I was excited to start researching and low and behold, didnt even have to type it in. Top suggestion :D Cheers dude! Awesome!
How about a video about your Mini Crossbow antenna tracker? A good video about your set-up would be very interesting. I am not only interested in how it's set-up, but I would like to understand how it works. I fly with an Frsky X18 transmitter and I have the GPS coordinates on the transmitter, and I was able to feed the GPS coordinates via bluetooth to my iPad. I am hoping to figure out how to feed it to the Mini Crossbow via bluethooth, if that's possible at all.
Love your videos but damn walksnail is going to seperate me from my money. Thinking it's time to ditch DJI for walksnail
This is perfect for my ground vehicles along with the gimbal thanks
I'm tempted to pull the gimbal off my plane and put it into a truck for some ground based FPV on the windy days... lol
@@bonafidepirate yea if you have the time definitely it would be a good review for that kind of application haven't seen any other CZcamsr do it yet
Interesting video, walksnail was a good choice for me and flying wings.
Oh i can't wait to get my hands on one!
Thank you for the great review!
nice flying man ,i would like to know how the vtx perform on miniquad ,meaning penetration and range
That's a lot of fun within 100m AGL!! Much enjoyed the fly along and the informative narration. #FPVistherapy
Great video. Would love a follow-up video on the antenna tracker and particularly how it works with ELRS.
Nice video. Enjoyed this one.
Yes, please make some videos on the tracker. I have one setup with an ESP 15F. So far, I have not gotten it to work with Ardupilot. I am told that it will work with INAV exactly as I have it. I have not yet tested INAV. I am more an ArduPilot person. lol Tim the Plane Man told me another way to set it up with ArduPilot but I have not been able to find the time to test that yet. So any video on the tracker would be great. Especially if it is ArduPilot driven.
Hi Vernon! I did see your videos when looking for info about the tracker and wondered if you had it working... lol I will surely talk more about the tracker soon, but for now there's a small group of pilots helping to test some firmware changes to get better compatibility with ELRS, so I'm waiting to see how that all plays out. You have Dragonlink right? If you'd like I can help you get it working perfectly. I'm using the ESP-12F with Dragonlink but it shouldn't make much difference. I've also had good luck using Mavlink emulation with Crossfire over WiFi. It's not as perfect as with Dragonlink, but certainly flyable.
I might've missed it, but what's the battery consumption look like compared to other VTXs you've used, especially with that 2W power?
That is great video coming through. Will have to test it for sprayer prototype. It sounded like you think Dragonlink is the best way to go for a reliable long range system?
I am just getting into FPV fixed wing, Flew FPV quads in the past. I want to start buying equipment and i came across this video and I think I am sold on this walksnail avatar GT kit. Can you let me know what goggles and receiver you are using in this video. Looks great , I have not looked into this walksnail kit but I take it that it is digital. I also subscribed
Hey bonafidepriate, do you have a video going into detail on what electronics you use on this aircraft? I am trying to make sense of what electronics I want to use on my rc plane build.
Fantastic flying and review, Keith!!! 😃
Caddx is killing it right now! I hope their new updates for the Goggles X comes out soon!
BTW, only 1080p recording for now, right?
Stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
Yeah, this one has a max resolution and framerate of 1080/60. The Moonlight is still the only one with 4K. One of the other guys testing paired this GT with the stand alone Moonlight DVR and it works just fine, but there's still some question about doing the firmware updates because the GT has no place to plug in the update cable between the two boards.
4k on board with the moonlight but only 1200 MW of power which gets out there pretty good even better with a tracker I need a tracker that would be awsome
I wonder if you'll be willing to make a tutorial of how to connect that Mini Antenna Tracker using blue tooth?? I have not have a good experience due to lock of knowledge
Why do they make the TX black? Should be silver or white! Less heat from the sun!
😍😍 oh yeah!
That looks sooo clear
Yeah it should look as good as any pro 2 caddx camera but it doesn't?
Fabulous 👌 ❤
I think they all should come with a fan
I've joked that if they offered the fan for purchase I'd get some for some of my other VTXs... lol It's a neat little fan that moves a surprising amount of air for it's size.
@@bonafidepirate would u say this it’s there solution for the new range system they would talking about
No this is all still part of the original ecosystem.
Oh wow, new 2 watt vtx and a Tracker. All in one video. Maybe you should setup a static camera so we can watch the Tracker following the plane....🤔😮😀😏🇬🇧
Do you have the STL Files for the camera mount and the vtx mount, plz?
This one is from "Thieu0s" - www.thingiverse.com/thing:5811529 I may have changed the mounting pattern before I printed it, I'm not sure if it's 25x25 or 20x20, double check before printing... lol
Great review! I actually want to jump ship to Walksnail... But could you whisper into Walksnails ear that live audio transmisson would be great for an even more immersive fpv experience? I really miss this feature from my analog days! But seems all the major digital fpv makers have dropped the ball on this feature.. The only reason I am still on Dji v2 system is actually because live audio is possible with that system via a special WTFOS-hack. It works great! No latency to talk about. It´s awesome in my current scale fpv bushplane. Really makes you feel more onboard your own aircraft. Apart from that, It´s also great for judging my throttle inputs on landing etc.
I totally agree! It adds to the immersion for sure. I've also been able to hear a motor acting weird and turn around to head home before an ESC finally crapped out. I was barely able to glide back to the runway, and I'm confident I wouldn't have made it all the way home had I kept flying farther away until the ESC died completely... lol I've mentioned it a couple of times, but it won't hurt to try again... lol
@@bonafidepirate Awsome! Your name carries much more weight than mine. Thanks!😊
Can it be put into full power without a flight controller for a ground vehicle ? Cheers
Yeah, you can turn off standby mode in the menu like with the other WS VTXs.
Nice
Can't find anywhere to buy one in the uk but i want one👍
Two questions for you.
What GPS unit are you using on the tracker if any?
------------
You said the dragon link worked best with the tracker.
What difference do you get when using Crossfire?
I too am using the Crossbow with full sized (2W) Crossfire over WiFi (ESP15F module) on my TX16S and it tracks pretty smooth but I don’t dragon link to compare.
Ping ping 😮
Nice!
Looks great. I've noticed you always seem to run at 25mbps. Is there a reason you don't run at 50mbps? Your video looks great as I said, but I was curious.
2w what? EIRP? Conducted output?
Yeah, would be nice to know but I'm more interested in real world, can't wait to get one for my LR quad to compare
I saw this doesnt have PX4 SUPPORT???? THOUGHTS?
I have not used PX4, does it not have a way to configure a UART for MSP/Display port?
Спасибо за видео
Do you use goggles? If so ,what antennas do you use?
I would like to build a long range quad with these vtx and goggles x , and i was wondering what antennas i should use on the goggles, maybe truerc patches?
I mostly fly with the VRX module. I have 4 TrueRC X-Air II antennas on it. I've seen people mod the Goggles X to use those as well. The standard X-Airs wouldn't be a bad choice either I think.
Great video, I'm looking forward to flights like that! I'm pretty new to all of this, I do have an old dragonlink laying around, and an eagletree vector. Wondering if the walksnail gt will plug right into the vector? And are you in the shed using your computer monitor? Just wondering how it's possible to use an antenna tracker with the goggles?
I do fly with a monitor mostly, the receiver sits outside and I have a long HDMI cable that runs back inside. The Vector won't interface with Walksnail, you could fly with it just fine but you won't have a working OSD, or be able to auto start/stop recording when arming, or have low power standby mode when disarmed. As much as I loved the Vector, I've found that modern FC boards with Inav or Ardupilot have more to offer, better performance, and cost less.
@@bonafidepirate thanks for the info, could you recommend a FC with inav? I guess it's time to get up to date.
@@kris12211221 The Speedybee F405 Wing is a good one to start with right now I think. A lot of value for it's price, and a great FC not even considering the low cost... lol There's a number of others that will work just as well too.
@@bonafidepirate thanks for your time, I'm looking forward to it!
Would you say this makes WS more viable for long range than O3 & goggles 2 combo?
I haven't flown any of the DJI FPV stuff, so I couldn't say... lol
@@bonafidepirate fair enough)
dam I just bought my moonlight kit a few weeks ago, murphys law this comes out dammit lol, now i have to wait on the goggles as I see they have a new gyro head tracker fix coming soon. make a post about those & I will also buy these from your links. they not giving discounts on this link.
I am looking forward to your MFD tracker set up. Are you using the crossbow mini? With the telefly module? I purchased a crossbow mini several years ago, along with a couple of telefly modules and I struggled to get it to work properly. I never thought that it was compatible with digital signals. You are the first one I have seen using this. I will gladly pay for a detail how to from you.
Thanks for making great content!
I have the Crossbow Mini, but no telefly modules. The tracker will work with telemetry data in mavlink, CRSF, or s.port format, maybe others. I'm using it with Dragonlink and Crossfire using Mavlink, and currently with ELRS using CRSF. There's still some development from ELRS on that end though, so I'm waiting for that to finish up before making a video about the tracker. There's tons of good info already in the Facebook group though, which is where I learned everything I know... lol Both what's posted and form members in the group explaining things when I had questions.
@@bonafidepirateI did not know that it would track without the signal that is added to the video feed. That's good news I had given up on it. Now there's hope! Thanks.
Imagine if we had a 2.4 or 3.3 540p high power digital link. Range would be legit
3.3ghz 720p 30fps would be for me (rx has 2.4g band)
You could always go with LTE
How far did you generally go on 1.3ghz analog?
100/200km easy. Search on CZcams.
F*ck!! I just ordered a MoonLight camera kit wirh their newer GM3 gimball like 2 days ago and now they release this... I should have wait I suppose especially since that VTX seems perfect for surface because they already have a fan on it for cooling. Too bad now I would have to make a bracket for the moonlight VTX with a fan and the gimbal.
I wouldn't sweat it. The Moonlight has a lot going for it. 4K for starters DVR for starters, stabilization with gyroflow is second to none, though that might not be such a big deal if you're putting it on the gimbal... lol I don't know if anyone else has, but I haven't personally ran the GT on full power for very long on the ground, so I'm not sure how well the integrated fan will hold up in that case. I know it keeps it cool in static air while in standby, but in the air flying it's right out in the airflow the way I have it mounted. I guess what I'm saying is I would be perfectly happy running the Moonlight in a surface application, and you're free to use whatever cooling you want to be sure it's adequate.
I’ve wanted that mfd crossbow mini for a long time, every time I check its out of stock, can’t be backordered, can’t subscribe to in stock notifications, so consider yourself lucky. There’s the big one, $1200 big one lol I don’t care about signal THAT much 😂
Yeah they are not readily available for the most part. You might have better luck asking in the Facebook group, that's how I get this one, asking around and got in touch with a guy that had some stock in the US... lol
@@bonafidepirate oh ok that’s helpful advice thank you!
Avatar GT Kit vs Moonlight?
Pro vs Con.
Moonlight Pros:
4K, excellent results from Gyroflow with minimal effort, as much power/range as the other 1200mW VTXs which is adequate for most.
Moonlight Cons:
Gets pretty warm, even in standby, like most of the Walksnail VTXs. Costs a few dollars more than the GT/Pro Kit.
GT Pros:
Super low power standby lets it run cooler, especially with the fan, and quicker GPS locks. More power for a slight increase in range. Costs a few dollars less than the Moonlight, slightly better low light performance with the Pro camera than the Moonlight
GT Cons:
Low power standby has limited range, 1080p max vs 4K, Pro camera doesn't stabilize as good with Gyroflow, even with a fair amount of tweaking trying to get things synced and working well.
Ukrain be investing a lot on this vtx
Nah, those guys are using cheap "disposable" analog hardware.
makes no sense testing this new vtx with the antenna tracker if youve flown always without one, does it ?!? and if this was with tracker its not looking good either...i have about the same signal strenght at that range with the v1 vtx @ 750mw and the vrx module on my cobraX´s! Im not impressed to say the least...
dude how are flying with that 70ms of latency on Cobras
@@illiashust6611 Its actually feels quite good in a wing setup... with the 5inch , its also ok if you are not flying hardcore bando style. Even in my whoop its ok although if im doing fast rounds with hard turns on my living room track im getting somewhat seasick after the 4th lipo if i make no pause in between lol I dont want to shell out good money for them crappy goggles from walksnail. Waiting for a proper version 2 / next gen model goggles & hope they get their shit together finally xD
@hirnlegorush why are you so angry? Is this not up to the high quality content that you are pumping out?
@@illiashust6611 i fly just fine and just for context do we even know what 70ms even means its 7/100 of a second just let that sink in buddy
@@420247paul you’re just coping with that 7/100 my friend. You obviously never felt what good latency feels like
Testing a fpv product on a fixed wing... where penetration is not a factor. No wonder you got a review copy 😂
Imagine, pretending FPV wasn't around long before multirotors were even a thought... lol
@@bonafidepirate fixed wing fpv undoubtedly came first, but it doesn't represent the use case for the core consumers in their market. If anything, you posting this review first just gaslights consumers into thinking the solution to their failed gogglesx launch is buying more products that just mask the flaws in the core of their current gen platform.
@robjackson2731 Lol. There are plenty of Goggles X users that are very happy with their performance (me included).
@@robjackson2731I don't think the GT would fit on a whoop....or are you assuming that 5inch freestyle is the core consumer use? I think it's been clear from the beginning that walksnail are trying to cater for more than just generic quad use.
