Here's my experiences with the Altus so far! There's been a few issues along the way, but none the fault of the plane. The Altus has handled everything thrown at it so far though... lol More to come! Here's links to the videos mentioned:

Thanks for linking to my video on this one.. Happy flying!! :D
Nice one Keith, thanks for the mention.
YES..and very nice to hear and see something from you again ❤
Thank you for the video! Do you think this would be a good plane for complete beginners? I love this style of twin tractors. It was a toss up between this and the PNP Heeing T1 for me
No channels really ever make me wanna dust my stuff off but yours. I need to stay away. Lol. Sentry
Do it! You won't regret it. You wallet might though... lol

Awesome flying and review, Keith! 😃
Pretty weird the issue... And your GPS is pretty well exposed... Perhaps some dust on the barometer?
Anyway, stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
I like the way they have mounted the servos directly in the tail, makes it very tidy looking. I have not flown any of my planes or multi-rotors for a couple of years now, I can see I will want to update a lot of stuff when I do get back into it. Hd video for a start. I also want to give this ELRS a try, I still have the old R9 stuff from FrSky on my planes, from memory I think I had begun to have a lot of range issues with it all the last time i flew. So when I get my mojo back for flying i will update a few things. After watching so many HD flight videos like yours I know i am going to be disappointed with my old analog set up.
That plane looks like an aerodynamic disaster. huge plate, fat fuselage, then the fuselage ends abruptly, and a V-tail (eyes roll) behind that... I guess it makes some sense if the plane needs to be extremely modular, but there are other ways to do that too. well, good to see you doing your thing and getting some flying in! :)
Its a drone not a plane. (eyes roll)
@@shaynejenkins446that drone is a aerodynamic disaster. Better?
@@shaynejenkins446 you can have a plane that is a drone (eyes roll) read a dictionary...
It looks pretty sweet though. IMO
Oh, I can almost see the VTOL kit now :)
What do you prefer for laminating your foam planes? I've used a thinned E6000 as a sealer, but it doesn't last long.
I've only used laminating film, like this - www.racedayquads.com/products/laminating-film-by-the-foot-choose-your-thickness?variant=31592443740273 It's not often I laminate them though, I usually don't bother, although it does make for a smooth and shiny finish, and adds some durability. I decided it was worth it for this one after repairing the wing, just for the added piece of mind... lol
hmm got a Penguin and looking at this or a swordfish on the side. I like that the servo's are on top. yet I like the looks of the swordfish more.
I had a tough time deciding on the Penguin or Swordfish, got the Penguin in the mail as my first FPV, very excited.
I have the Penguin and I can’t see a reason to get the other 2. I also have a bunch of gliders so that could be the reason haha 😆
@@dronepilot260rc I see we share a 2 planes then ( v2 2m phoenix here too).
I’m curious to see how the Haohan Firefly flies when you get it. Did they send it for you to review? I’m thinking of getting on the kickstarter.
Yeah I'm looking forward to trying it, something different... lol They said they will send a PNP variant when they're ready, but there was a delay in getting some parts produced. Maybe soon! lol
Nice review. It's great to see someone demo with 2-blade props as have similar concerns with 3-blades getting ground strikes. Look forward to seeing some efficiency data once you're able to cruise in nice weather conditions.
For the barometer, you could try bench testing by powering up flight controller to see what happens over the course of a what would be normal flight time. My guess is a defective barometer sensor. INAV logging might be able to record both GPS altitude and baro height values. It's possible the barometer is not outputting any data, and just getting luck with GPS readings and sensor fusion. An INAV dev might have some tips on how to cross verify.
A thought ... regarding the blunt nose. A 3d-print a nose similar to the ATOM-RC Penguin. Somewhat streamlined, but gaps to allow air at HD VTx..
I only trust Matek flight controllers. Never any barometer problems either. I always disable the compass in INAV7.1. Planes don't need them. Great video.
had same baro problem, with speedybee and mag gps. try disconnecting mag wires from flight controller.. it worked for me. inav was unable to arm, baro fail.
I don't have a mag on there, it's just a regular BN220 without mag. I've not had any other indication of problems apart from what I saw in flight.
Nice!
Wonder why it wasn't shipped with ZOHD's own flight controller?
the "lamination" you talk about. What and how?
It's a clear film that iron one, similar to the covering file traditionally used with built up balsa planes, but it goes on with a bit less heat and doesn't shrink as much. It's common to use on foam planes where you want them a little stiffer and tougher. Like this - www.racedayquads.com/products/laminating-film-by-the-foot-choose-your-thickness?variant=31592443740273 The I used here was some old 1.7mil stuff I had sitting around for years.
@@bonafidepirate thank you for the explanation. Yeah I know the good old shrink foil in balsa builds.
If this is 7.1, there may be an issue reported for the baro thingy
It is, 7.1.0, where can I find more info? I briefly looked through the open issues on Github but didn't see anything.
Vibration might be your issue. Also go back to three-blade props (may or may not help)
Smaller 2 blade that are balanced would be most efficient and ramp up launch speed.
@@tattoocollective2599 I was thinking about using three blades as a way to help solve your barometer problem. I had all sorts of barometer altitude control problems with inav and two blade props and then changed to three blades and all problems were solved - don’t know why but might be worth a try.
