Some people have sadly misunderstood the words of Jesus here and cut off parts of their bodies as a way of avoiding sin. Not only does this fail to keep you from sinning, it isn't what Jesus wants. Today I'll be teaching on what Jesus meant by "cut off your hand", "cut off your foot" and "gouge out your eye". His words, when understood rightly, are still extreme, they just aren't about causing physical harm. Another HUGE issue in this passage is Jesus trying to wake us up as to the eternal consequences of choosing sin over God. May we be woken up and may we follow his commands to be salt in this world.

Here was my understanding. I was a singer, I had much pride when it came to my performance. When I came back to Christ last July, my brother asked me to join the worship team. I thought this was how God would have me serve him. Well I found myself being so prideful, and jealous, I was disgusted with myself before God. I stopped singing that day. I still sing in my private time of worship, and as part of a congregation, but I would rather not sing another note as a performer, then to stand before Jesus with that nasty sinful pride.

Lord, my life and love I willingly outpour

      At the impulse of Thy love;

      Take my intellect, and use

I think your being prideful to stop singing.
Bible is for singing and dancing in praise and worship.
If you have pride over singing you probably have pride in other things
So get over being competitive with others and enjoy praising g and worshipping the lord
      Are you saved
      Have you been born again
Spend more time in prayer and less time thinking about yourself

The bible is for singing and dancing during praise and worship
Jealousy may be in your heart when the singers are just worshipping the lord
and giving thanks to god for the talents they have
That would be like stop playing a sport because your good at it and your showing off.
If you are a jealous person you need to change
If my church has a good band and good singers that's great
They work hard and practice during the week
They also are under the direction of the pastor
My pastors are excellent singers also and they always pray before
      singing
I'm just saying you can be judgmental on almost anything so be careful

@yellowleaf for me without hope and belief in Jesus, and doing what he says in belief, it was not possible. With God all things were possible;despite not knowing science , or deep theology. I simply hoped in Jesus and surrendered in humility admitting i dont understand. The greatest understanding to have is that you dont understand enough. To think you do tightens the rope on ignorance and pride. You may do well for a minute but the fall will be great.

There are many scriptures that calls people within the church "members" or "the body". Could Jesus have meant that if someone in your church causes you to stumble you should cast them out so they won't bring you down to hell along with them?

I urge you strongly not to make a decision you could regret down the road. I don’t know what the Lord has for you, I can’t say with certainty wether or not you’ll be married (I can’t do that for anyone), but making a decision that serious could have horrible ramifications if you DO find a wife. Keep fighting the good fight, know you aren’t alone in this, praying for you! :)

My best advice is reckon yourself dead to sin as Paul the apostle says. I know it sounds overly simple but it really is effective as I’ve learned in my experience! The idea of us being crucified and raised with Christ is very underrated.
Therefore we have been buried with Him through baptism into death, so that as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, so we too might walk in newness of life. For if we have become united with Him in the likeness of His death, certainly we shall also be in the likeness of His resurrection, 6 knowing this, that our old self was crucified with Him, in order that our body of sin might be done away with, so that we would no longer be slaves to sin; for he who has died is freed from sin.
      Romans 6:4-7
Before we were saved we were in love with our sin and incompatible with God. Now it’s the opposite, we hate our sin, and we are compatible with God!!
Therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God were making an appeal through us; we beg you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God. He made Him who knew no sin to be sin on our behalf, so that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.
      2 Corinthians 5:20-21
here’s another thing I recommend: I like pray that God would remind me that I’m dead to sin and alive to Him. I also try to regularly ask Him to show me how much pain sin causes, so that I might overcome my temptations.
Hope this can encourage or help you in any way. Grace and peace! 💢✝️💢

Been there it can be a real tuff road. One thing that helped me was the Sabaoth ," remember the Sabaoth and keep it holy" if you just start to keep one day to change your focas. Remember its already a day set apart from other days, not that all days souldnt be kept holy ,but that the Sabaoth is blessed to be set apart as holy, if that makes sense to you. Anyhow went years got real stressed at times, didnt really keep the Saboath right as far as work, still dont got it figured out. But I did make the choice to atleast do my best to abstain from fleshly desire on the Sabaoth and that works. One thing also is that dont curse yourself by saying to yourself things like, im wicked, or a bad person, or belittle your self for curseing your self is even worse than pornography ,or tobbaco, or what ever it is that can get a hold of a person like a virious. Its a sickness you just need healing, you did not create the virious ,you just got exsposed to it , some get sick some dont. Another thing dont make provissions for the flesh( Get rid of what ever stuff ) I had to deleat my phone a few times. But the first and formost important is ask the holy Spirit for help ,dont try to hide it from God. Heb 12 : We are surounded by a cloud of witnesses ect.. One time I herd the Holy Spirit tell me stop , after I had asked for help. And I didnt ,I even think I said I no or I cant something to that effect. Later I felt so bad that I rejected the Holy Spirits help( THATS SCARY) . when you have a sickness you need healing ,medicine, nutrition ect... I know how bad it can be, DONT CURSE YOUR SELF !!! That is the opposite of medicine, nutrition ect.. the dog that gets fed wynns the fight,Chose to eat proper nurishment ( Daily Bread ) scripture.and acknowledge the goodness in you. And dont give up ,if you fall 6 times get up 7. HALALUYAH And I ask that you be blessed in the name of Jesus (Yahshua) that you be blessed and your loved ones and there's with wisdom, knowledge, and understanding, with peace and prosperity, and health and happyness, and deliverences if needs be and protection and even miricles signs and wonders acording to His riches and His Glory in His kingdom that by His will you are blessed and that His Love is acomplished in you and returns to Him magnified and fulfield in Blessing Our heavenly Father with Love becouse He first Loved us.

And they are doing this to born-again Christians (The ones who are already saved). They are saying, "Don't play cards (Old Maid), Don't play board games or basketball. (These things are sinful and will always send you to hell no matter what) Also women should always wear dark colored, long dresses or they will be sinful and go to hell. What about the men? They can look like they just came out of a salon. Women---Don't forget your head-covering---etc; etc; etc..I know about this stuff because I went through a lot of it. The problem with wealth is that the lust for more and more of it can dictate how we treat those who are poor or who are less fortunate. The more one has the less important the poor become in many cases.

In that Colossians verse when Paul says consider the members of your body as dead to that list of sins, I believe what he means is: a born again Christian is already dead to sin, because we have been raised to newness of life through Christ, and it is our job to reckon ourselves dead to it because we already are, as there is no condemnation for those who are in Christ.

I laughed when you mentioned having mad skills to listen and engage in chat also, haha. Maybe your are listening and trying to critic yourself at the same time, lol. At 1st I wasn't able to do this but I am getting better at it. I find that I miss good Q's and A's from participants in the chat if I'm not paying attention. Hey Mike, love your teaching, verse by verse. I know you probably wont see this but I pray the spirit will do with it as He wills. I seem to have a deeper understanding of Gods word as you would expect after clumsily walking in the Spirit. I say that because I have loved the word of God, memorized some large portions like Roman's, 67 &8, Ephesians 12&3 Matt: 5,6, AND 7 sermon on the mount, Prov 12&3, psalms 1,3,8,139, 51,103, I mention the things I've memorized, not in boasting cause it is quite clear to me that came from God, the love he gave me for His word, enabling me to have the meaning revealed by the eyes of my understanding being enlightened by the Spirit. I humbly recognize that and know the danger of being built up in pride in this area of my life, when I clearly know it is from God and need to do nothing more than take a quick self examination. To know that He called me and I was drawn to Him because of the great love He had for me as expressed in scripture. It would be a much better world if that happened to every one, but it does not. I never understood reformed theology until recently, is reformed theology what is known as calvinism. I hope not just because of the obvious abuses between both sides. Any way I see the bible more clearly than i ever had and have more questions than i could imagine. But they are all good queries. I never saw the division that exists between election and predestination, and have talked to others who understand the rub, or who hear both sides but see the truth in there, even if I have to at some point allow God to be God. It doesn't seem to be that ouf of the ordinary to see 2 parallel truths at work here, and doesn't surprise me that I may not be able to articulate it, or explain it in a meaningful manner. Why should it be so hard for man to understand that he may not understand the things in the mind of God, I find that comforting that I must trust God with things I dont quite understand. I thank God for teachers such as yourself that can articulate some things that are hard to understand as Peter said about Paul. Thanks Mike, or I should say Pastor Mike, because I have lost my church due to Coronavirus, I dont see a local church in the near future, though there may be. Keep up the good work in Christ. Thanks

That passage in Judith, from the Apocrypha, certainly gives some insight on that Isaiah passage, at least in terms of how Jews before Jesus' time understood it. Another Apocryphal book, Ecclesiasticus (Sirach), says this in 7:17:
"Humble thyself greatly: for the vengeance of the ungodly is fire and worms.”

I was certain God gave me revelations that we were being told to cut off the members in the group (members in the “body of Christ” 1st corinthians) that was causing others to sin. Idk if I was wrong or not 😅

Then I’m not praying enough or sharing the gospel the way I should. How can I ever be satisfied with my Christian walk? But I do love studying the word of God and thank you for your message.

Jesus meant cutting body parts off literally, that was the attitude and commitment required of one who tries to keep the Law. The purpose of doing so was to convict man of his complete inability to keep the old covenant so that they would see a need for a new one. Under the Gospel a believer's sins are already dealt with and therefore this merciless approach to stopping sin was no longer necessary, because believers are now alive in Christ and forever righteous.
Whenever Jesus sees self-righteousness, any trust in man's efforts and ability to produce righteousness, he always reveals the pristine standard of the law by raising it to impossible standards. This is so that Man comes to the end of himself and nobody can try to justify himself with his efforts. Any person who desires to be under the Law to try and keep it must be ready to fulfil the standard of commitment that Christ himself suggested.

I thought that Gehenna was a valley just outside Jerusalem that was used as a trash dump. They often burned the trash dump & smoke was always coming from the dumpsite. So what Jesus was saying was that after the "Day of the Lord" the saved would live in New Jerusalem and the unsaved would be in Gehenna.

Quitting porn made me go through a mental crisis of actually wanting to stab my hand. I liked the intimacy but I know it's false and it's difficult for me to find some friends who I 100% trust would be by my side. I do feel the holy spirit is right beside me in the sence that if I do have urges it doesn't last long as beforehand (only a few seconds minimum to about 2 minutes max, compared to on average about half an hour everyday). I still feel guilty for looking for a few seconds even though my urges got out of control.
