The Spit Healing of Jesus: The Mark Series part 25 (Mark

- Jesus put His fingers in a man’s ears and His spit in the man’s mouth. Do you know what it means? We will cover the deep theological meaning behind this act and also deal with some critical objections to the reliability of Mark. Critics say that Mark doesn’t understand the geography of Israel because of Mark 7:31. Some will even say that Jesus is copying pagan rituals when He heals this way. Well, that’s silly and I’d like to share why.
Mark 7:31-37 (NASB95)Again He went out from the region of Tyre, and came through Sidon to the Sea of Galilee, within the region of Decapolis. They brought to Him one who was deaf and spoke with difficulty, and they implored Him to lay His hand on him. Jesus took him aside from the crowd, by himself, and put His fingers into his ears, and after spitting, He touched his tongue with the saliva; and looking up to heaven with a deep sigh, He said to him, “Ephphatha!” that is, “Be opened!” And his ears were opened, and the impediment of his tongue was removed, and he began speaking plainly. And He gave them orders not to tell anyone; but the more He ordered them, the more widely they continued to proclaim it. They were utterly astonished, saying, “He has done all things well; He makes even the deaf to hear and the mute to speak.”

I love to binge watch this Mark series more than any show on Netflix.
Yes! Me too!
Can't get enough.
Or Hulu or Disney or .......etc.
Your description of what the whole healing might have been like from the deaf man’s perspective made me cry. Jesus was so personal and intimate, and therefore, so is our God. That blesses me. How great is our God?!?!
Wow . Personal and intimate God
Jesus is God
He's a good preacher this Pastor
I was just talking about Mike today
Dude is blessed. Grateful he has stayed humble and not gotten distracted.
Christ never called anyone pastor
@@Yahuah222 Just another word for shepherd and that he did give some that calling. And what about what Paul says, to the church is given pastor/teacher.
Love and Respect from India for you, Pastor Mike
Praise the Lord
Thanks Pastor Mike! You are helping so many people with your teaching. Praise God for your gift!
Another excellent message Mike! Thank you for all your hard work and research that goes into them, making it so available and comprehensive.
the potter fixing his clay
I like that 😃
That’s what my take was 👍🏼
😍😍
Thank you for the wonderful teaching, and how it aligns with the cross: His and ours.
"The Lord God has given Me the tongue of disciples,
That I may know how to sustain the weary one with a word.
He awakens Me morning by morning,
He awakens My ear to listen as a disciple." Isaiah 50:4
I love your lectures and so glad I found this channel. When you discussed the part where Jesus sighed it struck me that could it be that Jesus did this knowing that this would be the first sound the deaf man would hear coming from the Son of Man. God bless you and your channel.
Helpful spit tip... if you get a blood stain on fabric, your own spit will dissolve it and take it out. It needs to be your spit working on your blood. Learned this as a quilter.
Whoaaaaa!
I have done a lot of sewing and, therefore, a lot of pricking my finger. I learned that my saliva removes the stain of my blood on fabric. Always thought that was pretty cool!
Mike you never cease to surprise me. Well done sir.
God is with you, I feel it in your messages. Keep on doing what you do my friend. Be blessed by God.
I thoroughly enjoy Mike's studies and the insights the Spirit of Yahweh shares through him; but I really love the way he prays at the end of each lesson. He is a man of prayer and it is always a blessing to pray along with him.
Shalom,
Alan
I have been watching the mark series every day. They are great and I'm learning a lot. Thanks so much Pastor Mike .
Interesting sermon.
The most important thing to understand about Jesus Christ, is that he knows each and every one of us better than we know ourselves.
When you read through all four Gospels, Jesus NEVER healed people the same way - there is no single healing method or one-fits-all methodology he used.
His main focus is ALWAYS on the disposition of a person's heart, and, whenever He encountered sin, he dealt with it, and always forgave repentant sinners.
Amen

I’ve always wondered about stuff like this! Thank you so much!
Amazing series Mike! I am doing a summary for every part of this study, to read it every time I go to the gospel of Mark, for the rest of my life. ツ
I almost cried and you were not shouting at me like a lot of pastors. Sometimes you need to shout but there is no doubt this delivery is of the spirit.
The Series on Mark is sooooo cool. Thank you Pastor, Thank you very much!!
I’ve listened to you for quite a while now, and I’m so glad I found your channel. You clarify so much~ often the minutiae of detail that I’ve never heard before. Thanks a bunch!
been waiting for this like ... all week 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
what a great Holy Spirit insight regarding the touching of the mans ears and mouth..God Bless
AMEN Pastor on it being about where her faith was! 34:45
I was healed from severe, disabling damage to my vestibular system through FAITH and ASKING and BELIEVING.
In my high trust in self and low faith, God healed me through something conceivable to me that I was already on the way to figuring out.
The METHOD He used (words of knowledge and instructing me through physically doing my own therapy) was based on what I believed in that moment. It was according to my faith that He healed me, and by His healing my faith has grown so much!
Hallelujah, I thank The LORD for His signs and wonders which He gives to those who will believe through them!
"If you are willing..."
"I am willing."

Thank you for helping me understand the Bible better. God continue to bless you.
I have never thought about the deaf and dumb man's perspective.
Same!!
Me neither, but it makes so much sense.
This was so insightful and thoughtful! Thank you for your faithfulness and heart Mike!
Wow this is an amazing sermon. Definitely challenges me to complain less and let Jesus shine through me. God bless you!

I learned a lot from Pastor Mike Winger 😍... He is very clear and careful with his teachings! God bless ✝️ Glory to Jesus Christ ❤️
Wow! Absolutely beautiful!!!! Thank you so much! With love from Cape Town SA
Really excited 😊 a lot of apologetics 🇿🇦
Amen to following the leading of the Holy Spirit regarding the ministering of healing.
11:00 lol that aged well 😬 haha great vid Mike!
Great sermon. I think its consistent because Jesus also reach out to touch a leper healing him in Matt 8:3 (who dares touch a leper). Like you says, He considers their perspective.
I'm giving this a second go round and this is such a beautiful sermon based on a beautiful passage and you executed the delivery perfect Mike. I am especially fond of the part when you asked us to consider the blind/deaf guy's perspective and consider the visuals Christ presented him with. And also, the part where you draw on the importance of understanding the ministry of Jesus in light of the cross is brilliant. I always wondered why Jesus, in many cases, told the healed to hold off telling and I believe the cross is a big reason why. Thank you Mike. Much appreciated🤓
Thanks Mike great sermon
Years into the series, I finally started reading through Mark. I was wondering the reason for Jesus' actions in this passage and then this video popped up on my YT feed... Yes!
Thank you. God bless to our warrior in CHRIST!!!
Thank you!

Wow Mike God speaks🤓 I was discussing this passage with my counselor this morning. It seems that Christ can use a variety of methods to bring about His will to glorify God in others. Thank you for this!
I had to come and search for your Mark study after I heard another hyper charismatic pastor's "explanation" on Jesus's healing of the blind man in Mark. I don't really listen to this pastor, but someone else I follow mentioned him. Very recent, said pastor tried "replicating" this miracle on someone on stage and said God's message here is that "God is testing our physical, spiritual and emotional strength to receive His blessing, even if it's in a gross manner". I'm paraphrasing here, but I couldn't listen to more, and really had to search for a sound doctrinal explanation. Thank you Pastor Mike for this video and pt. 28 which I also listened to. God bless you.
Finally! Thank you sir

Thanks mike 💪🏼
A possibly related passage I found from Exodus 4:11 (NIV) "The LORD said to him, "Who gave human beings their mouths? Who makes them deaf or mute? Who gives them sight or makes them blind? Is it not I, the LORD?""

5 minutes after upload and already 7 thumbs up :D
This was unreal!!
excellent points around and after the 39th minute. (and regarding the pun intended it felt more like a pun unavoidable haha)
@ Mike I have some info for the woman with an issue of blood as well. Very awesome stuff! We should talk.
10:55 Who would've guessed Christians would be doing EXACTLY this, for literally years, just weeks after this statement was made.
Still seeing the perpetually fearful, alone in their cars......WITH THE WINDOWS UP!!!! wearing them.
Amen
I had always believed that Jesus was so holy and sinless and the Messiah of peace. Your videos definitely made me reconsider such beliefs. I appreciate your honesty in bringing up the contradictory statements in Bible.
Well Jesus is Holy, sinless and the Messiah
@@gerarddlima In his earlier video, he was was talking about the story of a syrophoenician woman asking Jesus for help. Jesus compares her to a dog and says that His mercy is primarily directed to the Jewish people. All others are secondary. I don't think that is such a Holy thing to do. It doesn't make sense when God considers a particular group of people as his own and another group as 'outsiders'. I don't think God is a racist. If we agree with such a logic, then the newly converted people would be inferior to the believers. And that would make God partial. And considering that fact that God was silent when thousands of Jews were tortured and killed by Hitler, we can clearly come to the conclusion that Jewish people are not the dearest people to God.
@@nrithiprasad5074What you have said only makes sense if you talk from a place of ignorance (not a insult) if you look into why and timing it will make sense as for the Jews Jesus is God and look what God allowed to happen to Jesus but the Jews are Gods chosen as well as israel and Jesus we are all one in God no one above another but the elect serve a purpose and that has suffering death and resurrection. I think of them as my big brother i should watch them learn from there mistakes and be patient with them. Because that is pretty much what they are big brother in faith God uses them to give information to everyone he teaches them and punishes them so everyone knows how God operates and how to understand what he says. There are many good teachings on this topic please look into it more.
Love Mike
@Mike Winger Can you do a video on biblical radical acceptance?! I have a friend that is reading a book about this but it is buddhist thought and that book talks about how we are innately good and the realization of that and stuff. But I know that that isnt reality, which is what radical acceptance is supposed to be about, accepting reality. We are fallen and we need a savior.

If the method of healing was, in fact, used by some gentile healers in that region, that man may have gone to them to try anything to heal his ears, and all for naught. And then comes Jesus to do it successfully, not because the method works, but because he has the power!
Thank you Brother Mike for all your efforts and your sincere teachings. Could I please ask for some help with knowing about the Yahweh Restoration Ministires? While I was doing a research to learn more about the best study bible, I came across the Restoration study bible which was being translated by the YRM. So I also did some research on their ministry and was astonished by what they taught. They sounded almost like the JW organisation. I could not find any videos on their ministry which said if their views were right or wrong. Could you please please make a video on it, if you think it is relevant? Thank you in advance. God bless you and your ministry.
Blessy Antony if it sounds like JWs I’d say stay away from it

Psalm 89:27 I will appoint him to be my firstborn son, the most exalted of the earth’s kings. The firstborn makes the most sense prophetically past and future. We must never forget God is all knowing. This young lady said she could not believe all of the things that vinegar did by way of cleaning and I replied, I know, Jesus spit it out! I'll get Him in there somehow. She then asked me how old I thought we would be in heaven and I replied, "Oh, between 30 - 33 that's how old Jesus was during His ministry, death and resurrection and I looked pretty good at 33! Get 'em hooked on Jesus.
Might these word also have a relationship to what you are saying. Epidermis, for skin on skin ( human contact). Epicurean deals with fine food or the pleasure in.
Just curious. Thank you.
Pastor will you plz pray for my faith and side pain
Mike! You have to do a New Age dismantling of the cult, UNICULT. Please show her followers the way to the Truth! Please and Thank you! God Bless

Thanks again, Mike. This is the first time I've heard any explanation, and "apologetic" for the geographical puzzle in Tyre-Sidon-Galilee-Decapolis journey of Jesus in Mark 7. Two questions: (1) how might this also connect with their going to Caesarea Philippi and the Messianic declaration of Peter in this very ancient gentile city of "Panares"? (2) Might Mark, and the synoptic writers be describing the overall journeys of Jesus as Christ's intentional outlining the ancient great kingdom of David ("the Jews first"--including both Judea and Israel), yet also his inclusion of the gentiles of Syro-Phoenicia, Eastern Galilee, and the Decapolis ("and also the Gentiles"). Obviously, this is broadly interpretive given my post-resurrection theological "lens", but all of the Gospels, and Paul, were written with similar lenses. The key, as you suggest, is the Cross, the Resurrection, and the coming of the Holy Spirit "to guide us into all Truth". Blessings and Peace+
I heard mentioned Jesus walking on the water and it relates to Old Testament, can anybody share a link to such a video .. thank you 🙌
Part 22 of this series
What happened to the Brian Houston video!???
Where is your church located?
Impeded was the word you were looking for :)
You ripped this passage to shreds. What sources do you use?
As you were speaking about spit, I was wondering if there was an account in the OT where spit is mentionned, to see if there could be a possible connection. The only account I could think of is in Numbers 12:14 But the LORD said to Moses, “If her father had only spit in her face, would she not be put to shame for seven days? Have her shut outside the camp for seven days, and afterward she may be received again.” Would there be a connection of some sort, like the spit of Jesus heals, and the spit of man makes one unclean? Maybe I'm not understanding Numbers 12:14 right, but is she considered unclean because of the spit? Or because of the sinful actions that would lead her to be spit on?
that is a good point ...i could not understand why JESUS said to any ,,,,be quiet of this miracle healing ....because then the crowd would only listen / know of a healing ......but not hear the message od salvation at the cross .
You said that Jesus never failed healing someone (or something like that). I wonder if you could speak about (or if you have already spoken about) the time Jesus prayed for the blind guy twice because after the first time the people looked like trees. Is there a theological reason Jesus prayed twice for the guy? I have heard explanations that are not satisfactory to me and would like your opinion. Thanks.
Is this applicable? Mt And they took offense at Him. But Jesus said to them, “Only in his hometown and in his own household is a prophet without honor.” 58And He did not do many miracles there, because of their unbelief. // Mark 8:23
So He took the blind man by the hand and led him out of the village (b/c of faith like he cleared the mourners out of the room when healing the little girl). Then He spit on the man's eyes and placed His hands on him. "Can you see anything?" He asked.
This may help: Another reason to believe this man was a gentile is because it was his ears that were unstopped (miracles are not just recorded that we might wonder at them but for their deeper spiritual meanings too as well as prove that Jesus is messiah to the people then). The gentiles in effect had not heard the gospel (viz the Heb scripture Aka OT) but the blind man Jesus healed was a Jew. They had heard the gospel but had been blind to its fulfilment in the man standing before them. And also note the two stage miracle to heal the blind man, when Jesus could so easily do it in one. Natural Israel as a nation will need the return of Jesus to recognised him as messiah. These two men healed were examples of the two groups -Jew and gentile- and their respective need.
What about the rest of Mark???
If the man had been deaf since childhood, it is reasonsble he could not speak clearly. He had never heard anyone speak. He had not heard abot Jesus either, so they had to physically bring him there. Somthe miracle was double: opening of th ars, and crreating a vocabulary in the formerly deaf man, so he now could have community with both God an fellow men
The woman who suffered from bleeding probably knew Malachi 4:2 "But for you who fear my name, the sun of righteousness shall rise with healing in his wings. And you will go free, leaping with joy like calves let out to pasture."
The Hebrew word 'kanaph' means borders, as in hem of a robe, but is also found in Exodus 19:4 where it is translated as wings, as in, "You have seen what I did to the Egyptians, and how I bore you on eagle's wings, and brought you to myself."
Therefore when the woman reached out and touched the hem of Jesus' robe, she was reaching of for His 'wings' to which because she believed that He was the 'sun of righteousness' she would find healing.
33:50 I bet the reason Jesus didn’t have a “method” to his healings was deliberately to prevent others who come after to “codify the method” and basically turn it into another idol type thing.
Scripture says Jesus spat and touched his tongue. Not that he put spit on his finger and touched his tongue. therefore no bacteria being transferred. I liked the fact that touching his ears and tongue would be from the mans perspective.
Hi Mike! You have read the oral thora made by the jewish priests. What us your conclusion about what they say about Jesus?
Andy Smith Im interested as well ,I know some Christians will only use the talmud for cultural context like Dr.Brown . But on the other hand Ive seen quotes of it saying things like Jesus is boiling and using a derogatory’s to refer to him .
Aaron Rabago The Talmud was written by many different ancient Jewish scholars. It is used by Christians for cultural context, like you said. It also contains information about the Trinity before Christianity existed and some other useful info for apologetics. While it has some anti-Jesus and anti-Christian commentary, this does not detract from its usefulness in other areas.
@@gigahorse1475 John 8:44-45 about The jews.
Jesus speaks about This oral Torah in Mark 7:7-13
Andreas erik I hope you’re not saying all Jews are from their father, the devil. That would be pretty embarrassing for you. If you’re saying that try reading the passage again. The whole chapter. Then you’ll see the context.
@@gigahorse1475 Yes, What I say is true. The jews also curse themselves when they say: Let his blood be on us and our children.
a musing thought, but i wonder if sighing was meant to convey a bit like Christ breathing on the man
Spit also very effectively dissolves a blood stain on clothing.
I think there is a link to the laws of impurity. Touching deseased people made you impure. With Jesus it's the other way around. Touching Jesus or being touched by him made them pure, whole and healed.
Re: 7:31 - "put His fingers into his ears",
One commentary explained that because the man could not hear, Jesus used His own form of sign language to tell the man that He was going to heal him of deafness.
"...after spitting, He touched his tongue."
"Also another form of sign language in which Jesus offered the man hope for restored speech."
I wonder if Jesus pulled the deaf man away from the crowd because He knew the noise of the crowd could be overwhelming for someone who was deaf and could suddenly hear.
There is a time to honor mystery rather than indulge in wild theories.
So, off topic question but. Do you still not believe that all religions are the same? Because I am under the belief that, they are because the texts of each religion are not meant to be read literally.
the reason he ask them not to tell them about his miracles is in matt 12:16-21
Talking about how Christians should not wear masks and more we are forced to wear them
30:33 Mike was looking out for ages
Another reason to believe this man was a gentile is because it was his ears that were unstopped (miracles are not just recorded that we might wonder at them but for their deeper spiritual meanings too as well as prove that Jesus is messiah to the people then).
