Dramatic video released from Troup County Sheriff’s Office shows a shootout between a deputy and a suspect in Troup County. The shooting happened Monday afternoon as the deputy was performing a welfare check at the suspect’s home on Jackson Street. Officers said the man’s father had called in a report that his adult son was in the midst of a mental health episode. Deputy Michael Hockett’s dash camera was running as he responded to the scene. In the video, Hockett is heard yelling at the suspect, “Drop the gun now!” Moments later he’s seen running away as the armed suspect chases him. Hockett jumps a fence and the suspect begins firing at him. Hockett returns fire, hitting the suspect in the shoulder. Hockett was also hit in his forehead, elbow and waist by pellets from a shotgun blast during the shootout. Both Hockett and Edmondson survived.
“I'm thankful that the Lord seen me through it. I've replayed it in my head and I know in my heart that I did everything I could to do the best I could with the situation I'd been placed in,” Hockett said. Edmondson’s mother witnessed part of the shootout and frantically called 911. “I need an ambulance. Please hurry. My son’s been shot,” she said. “There was a deputy here we had just came in. and I don't know if the deputy was shot or not. I don't know what's going on but I'm scared to death." She was then kept in the home for six hours during the standoff. “He’s at the house but he has a gun. I’m scared,” she told the dispatcher. “I’m trying to get away from him.” Edmondson eventually surrendered and is now facing several charges, including attempted murder, aggravated assault and false imprisonment.

The way that suspect took cover after taking a round and continued to lay down superior fire... The officer definitely did not bring his A game, and was obviously out skilled!
Never go by yourself when a person is having a psychotic break!
He wasn't psychotic, the officer was trespassing. IDGAF if the DA is going to go after the victim in this case, they aren't following the law and as soon as a citizen defends his home and rights, suddenly that citizen is the criminal...
LMFAO, I don't break into others people stuff because I'm not going to risk the risks that come with doing that. I would be right to be shot if I did it, and same with cops regardless of reasons barring warrant.
@@deletdis6173 They get away with it through laws that specifically take rights away from people.
Bakers act in Florida. Mental Hygeine law in NY. The name varies by state.
If an officer ever uses the code that refers to mental health, it means 'The suspect has no rights, we will gain entry and either kill him or take him against his will'.
Normally you need a warrant.
In this case however, I read a comment stating that someone did call making a complaint about his mental health. I believe the person riding with him. If she's afraid, she should get out, if he refuses to let her leave - then he is actively committing a crime and his rights go out the window. If she can leave, but is only concerned, his rights should remain in tact and trespassing should be considered as such.
It's just too easy to claim someone is mentally unsound and violate their rights.
Right now, you can make a call on your relative and the police will go immediately if you state they are having mental health problems. It doesn't have to be true.
They are supposed to assess the situation and see if the person looks out of control or in crisis but in practice they just take everybody to the hospital for a psych eval.
The problem with this, is that violation of rights is now as easy as a false claim against someone you don't like.
Even if you have concerns, it's not your business unless they are committing a crime. The laws need to be reworked and have a crime aspect included.
The counter argument is that sometimes these people kill themselves or others. Not committing any crime to that point. (The same can literally be said about any crime, so the argument holds no weight, and mentally ill people are more likely to be victims of crime, not perpetrators).
@@mrsilver8517 uhh I mean someone beating and shooting a police car is kinda nuts, that guy had serious issues, the car wasn't even on the property
@@tia_rella9498 I wrote that, right? Maybe I didn't.
I thought I wrote that shooting the police car might be problematic depending on where that is on the property. We can't see if it's just off the road, or deep into his land.
Again though, if the cop wasn't trespassing, would the car have been shot? Maybe it would have been a shootout right there, but...they are forcing the issue. IDC if the cop will get away with it, and they don't uphold any of the citizens rights (Which will 100% be the case if they bring in mental health claims - it's an easy way to remove citizen rights).
If you can't defend your property using force against people who will absolutely refuse to leave and violate your rights and laws....then what defense do you have?
The law forces victims to be victims because they overlook what caused the 'problem'.
You'd talk to the police, That's fine. It's also completely fine not to talk to the police, and they need to respect the laws and land.
Not trespassing at all, he could go in the house but is able to go any land, he is the after all, sorry Mr Silver.
Dude was serious about no tresspassing on his property.
Facts !! Well that’s his rights !!!
@@angelGotDrip The officer was performing a wellness check, It negates trespassing. Example If there is no response to a phone call, or door, and the police have reason to be concerned for your safety (you are elderly, live alone, on oxygen, haven’t picked up your newspapers for three days, and still have your car in the driveway), these are considered “exigent circumstances,” and the police may forcibly enter and walk through to see if you are home as part of their “community caretaking function.”
They may not search, of course, but if they see something that on first glance is obvious contraband, for example if they spot marijuana growing in your kitchen, they may seize that (and will most likely get a search warrant and search the house.)

You guys are not taken into account he was on a driveway most probably out in the open he probably ran because his car is cover his car has backup direct contact to the main station and he can leave the danger zone alot faster and when he was at the main house he got shot his life was literally on the line he was alone nobody to cover him while reloading just a plain bad idea to cover and return fire if he stayed and cover and fire he would be dead that guy could have more guns at the ready like yup haul ass if I was him run for home get out of there like and if you listen you can hear the cop narrowly miss getting hit by the truck as it drove in after locking the gate
that officer had no idea what kind of arsenal the man had at his disposal. He increased the distance between himself and the suspect, retreated to a safe location, and left the scene to de-escalate the situation, also improving the chances of survival for the hostage. I'm guessing you forgot your training from the Academy.
@Darrin Fry Didn't know 6 year olds were allowed on youtube, but here you are
Crazy how in a lot of these videos the officers never realize or know where they have been hit. Amazing how adrenaline can numb and confuse the pain.
Up to the point where you feel nothing at all. Been there.
It wil hurt later though. Oh yes.
I've seen people missing a limb not realize because of adrenaline.

@@Internutt2023 Yes, it also puts you in another mindset. Its the extreme flight/fight response where you act rather than think. Its a completely different lvl.

That has nothing to do with adrenaline. It simply doesn't hurt to be shot, the affected nerves are obliterated. It isn't until your body responds to the damage with inflammation and other protective reactions that you begin to feel pain.
In this particular case, the officer was shot with a weird pistol shotgun thing that essentially sprayed him with birdshot at relatively low velocity. I'm sure it scared the crap out of him, but caused about as much damage as a BB gun.

That criminal gets Criminal Of The Year , that was some very hardcore footage.
Then he just drives away? I don't get it. I've never seen a situation in which a LEO reacted this way. Very strange.
He was shot and I'd think getting to a hospital and medical attention more important than staying engaged. As is born out in the video, the perp was mental, afraid of leaving the familiar situation of home, eventually surrendered after a 6hr stand off. Had the officer stuck around he would have been in poor shape and incapacitated. I'm sure other officers took care of the balance of the situation and arrest
Yes, there were many tactical and procedural mistakes made here.
He should have ran for cover when he heard the suspect shooting his vehicle. Instead, he just called out "Sheriff's Department" while leisurely walking back to the road which only served to make himself a bigger target.
When the truck pulled up to him, you could hear (but not see) him ordering the suspect to drop the weapon, then begging not to get shot rather than shooting the suspect.
I could understand running for cover at that point and taking a defensive position...which would have been the first building past the gate. Instead, he kept running to his vehicle without defending himself.
We could clearly see when he did, and did not, have his weapon drawn.
He finally engaged the attacker when he was at his vehicle by returning fire. But then drove away rather than holding his position, treating his injuries, communicating with dispatch, and preventing the suspect from leaving.
The dispatcher was horrible, too. She should have held the air as soon as he reported shots fired at his location, as well as routing all available units to his location from a different frequency. Instead, she just kept babbling on while he was in a fight for his life.
He is incredibly fortunate to be alive.
He wasn't tresspassing Fat.
***** No, he was not trespassing, he was conducting an investigation and searched the property with probable cause.
OneGenericName Wrong. He should have drawn his weapon and sought cover when he heard the first shots fired. He should have shot the suspect when he refused to drop the weapon...instead he begged for his life and ran away with his weapon STILL IN HIS HOLSTER.
Instead of driving away, he should have radio'd in to dispatch that he'd been shot, treated his injuries, and used his vehicle as cover until backup arrived.
He was blinded by fear and screwed up repeatedly because of it.
The first few minutes sound like he's mining dirt in minecraft.
This is why training is so important.
Backup you mean
I believe in a situation like this, you need to have backup. You have to have someone with you at all times. I’m sure it’s in the middle of nowhere, 20 mins for backup arrives. You have to have someone watch your 6.
I believe all law enforcement officers needs to have 2 man. No arguments needed. This video says it all.

It may or may not shock you that many large rural counties have only two or three deputies patrolling at any given moment and they can be more than thirty minutes apart from each other. Sad but true. Support the blue.
On the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation back-up may be hours away. Area is bigger than some states and they only have a coupe dozen tribal police officers. 30 officers for a land area larger than Rhode Island and Delaware combined.
Alaskan troopers and many other rural states don't have such luck. Most are out alone.
More police means more pigs to kill.

Aggression wins gun fights. Once you know he has a handgun you move on them quickly and overwhelm them with superior firepower. Trust me, I play counter strike
it's actually a real concept called violence of action, this guy did the opposite.
You don't need to be a Delta-navy-green-SEALMarine to know when someone fucked up.
You are right however in reality 99.9% of people are probably going to be too scared to rush their opponent even though that would actually be the only way to survive. Or atleast the best quickest way of ending the gunfight. Even playing paintball most people are too scared of getting shot at close range to rush their opponents so you can imagine in a real gunfight they gonna just shit their pants and cry like this cop.

Aggression wins gunfights is very true. Why can’t people in the comments just read the description?
I read it..... cop is a stupid pussy cop. He knew someone was shooting near him. His gun should have been drawn and ready to fire. He said drop it.... which means he seen suspect coming. Suspect should have been downed. Instead he's running with no gun in hand. The story doesn't match the video. Where was this shotgun?? He had a pistol the entire time no shotgun. So how was officer injured by shotgun if suspect had pistol the entire time in the video. Reading the description only shows more bs.
I think that all the time
This is what happens when there is no backup in a little down.. You are the backup.
@mike white he was called there by the owners to check on their son, who was having a mental health episode... fuckwad.
@mike white Shooting would be excessive even had the officer been trespassing. Now if there was no call, the officer ignored repeatedly being asked to leave for trespassing, and he continued to pursue an innocent person and intimidate them, maybe there'd be some justification. No matter which side you fall on with the love/hate thing people have with cops there will be no progress forward until everyone can analyze a situation honestly for what it is. This goes for both sides. People need to think before reacting to what they see in these videos. If the cops are in the wrong call them out and defend individual rights - if a dirtbag deserved what he got, call it like it is. Leave the emotion and bias out of it.

The people in the comments are stupid, if someone calls for a welfare check it means the cop comes to house to check on that person because the person who called are concerned. Its usually just a knock on the door then the officer will check if the house was broken into then if its possible the officer might enter to insure the person is not dead or something inside.. it was stated in the description he had a mental health issue.
stop calling the cops on your family, never ends well.
Anyone who comes up to your door and knocks isn't trespassing, including the police.
+AYE OK SURE You do realize that it isn't trespassing unless, 1. There were visible signs clearly stating, "No Trespassing", and 2. If someone does come onto your property, you must inform them and give them the opportunity to leave before they are officially trespassing onto your property. Just for shits, it's also a police officer performing his duties, so get out of here with that trespassing shit. Many times police have had to go onto private property to address a call, and every time people try to claim police have violated their rights, the judge throws the case out, because the police were within reason. Doesn't matter if it was just for a "welfare check", the cop had every right to at least get to the front door and knock.
Wrong again.
Sevenspent, you're in the comments.
That dispatch, you know this is Georgia
I wasn't sure if I was listening to a bingo hall call out numbers, or police radio.
Is there another video with the rest of what happened?
Holy crap! I guess that woman who looked like a hostage was his mom.
Omgggg i was wondering who that was & if anyone noticed that too !! Its crazy nobody said anything about it
@@jeremychandler420 'cause no one reads the description under the video anymore
For fucks sake! I was yelling at my screen "draw your weapon and defend yourself! Gonna get shot in the back!" lmao my god
Exactly!
Having two officers on patrol together is essential for times like this, so they can keep an eye on approaching suspects like the nut job in this video.
The body language of that man said crazy before he even slammed the gate like a child and shot the sh** out of that patrol unit! 😕
What ever happened in this situation ?
I'd like to know too. I tried looking him up in both the Troup County Jail records and the Georgia State Inmate records, and I can't find anything. The latest article written about this I found was from September 2019, more than 2 and a half years after it happened, and it just said he "could face charges".
"Why are you running?! Why are you running?!"- Some Ugandan actor
“Why are u gae?” - a Ugandan pasta
There was so much fucked up in the is video, I don't even know where to begin...
thebronzetoo
I just pretty much typed the same thing up top before scrolling down to your comment......this is the type of video that the protesters be talking about....this guy was literally given a million chances to surrender.....he had the cop running and even shot at him multiple times before he exchanged shots back at the suspect....could you even imagine how this scenario would've played out if he was black or Latino??....that guy would've been put down on site...smh.
+Jason Caudle I disagree.
Jason Caudle always quick to pull the racist card. Sad.
Uh Huh lol your a idiot quick to pull the sarcasm card
When the office arrived there wasn't anyone home. SO, he hops the fence. The guy was shooting at an empty car. The officer was at the back of the house. You hear the officer in the car because his mic was hot and coming through a radio inside the car. Hope that clears some things up for you.
this is definitely one of those types of videos that you need a description or you would have no idea what the hell just happened. Cop jumps fence ,on the private property with no warrant, dude comes home, cop seen running for his life and jumping the fence back to car. Shooting going on the whole time
A shootout without a shootout
Wow
11/10
If anyone has evidence that it wasn't a valid wellness check, please provide evidence.
If not that civilian is going to jail for attempted murder amongst other crimes
James McCarthy no that's private property buddy
An officer has a protected right and responsibility to enter the property if he has reasonable suspicion that someone on the property is immediate danger.
You should inform your local PD that if having a heart attack on your property and someone calls to get you help that they should wait outside at the gate till you come and let them in...
Devin Johnson It does not matter if it’s private property. The land owner gave them permission. Read the fucking description you stupid piece of shit
Devin Johnson He shot at the cop car even outside his property.
The dude is obviously a fucking lunatic!!
Devin Johnson doesn’t matter if it’s private property. Only one kind of property they can shoot you for just being on it and that’s military installations clearly marked “deadly force is authorized” and even then they don’t shoot without cause. You have to be in immediate danger of your life or others to shoot someone on your land. Especially if that someone is a police officer.
no rifle in the car?
David Mcarthur had no time to get it.
He sat on the car for like 5 minutes after getting shot
David Mcarthur rifle for what? That situation should and could have been resolved with a handgun
My Mom and I have watched All Live PD and Body Cam episodes
My Mom says:This is a graphic police video
That officer acted like he was being chased down by a T-1000
Lot of hateful bastards saying trespassing didnt read the description under the vid before commenting did they?
Chris Bayanilla apparently you don't understand what a welfare check is. An officer has a protected right and responsibility to enter the property if he reasonably believes someone on the property is immediate danger.
This has been upheld many times. It does not matter who owns the property only that the officer is given reason to believe someone could be in danger on the property.
@@adam88721 a request for a welfare check is in fact NOT probable cause to enter private property and cross a locked barrier (climb over a locked gate... Kick in a locked door etc etc) without probable cause (visual confirmation of a crime being committed or auditory belief of crime in progress i.e. screaming calling for help etc etc). The cop climbing over the gate immediately puts him in the wrong as he is breaking the law in doing so. Now the kid also broke several laws but if he felt he was in danger by an armed individual illegally trespassing on his property (regardless of profession) he is within his rights to defend himself. It was vandalizing the cop car that was illegal as well as illegally detaining his mother.
@@TyphoidSnaily *Yes, In this case it was.* Its called Exigent Circumstances and its the legal term used to describe under what emergency circumstances and officer can enter private property without a warrant. The U.S supreme court upholds the officers right to enter property *based upon a reasonable belief that someone was in danger* ... The call (from the guys father that his son his in crisis) is clearly enough that anyone would believe his son is in danger.
*This is common sense...* if someone is in danger and an officer or even EMT reasonably believe that... Then of course they should be allowed to come in or on property....
*Visual or auditory proof is not needed* - again upheld by the Supreme Court.
all it requires is the reasonable belief from an officer which a judge determines is valid or not.
This is what anyone would want if they called 911 for someone they love if they were in danger on private property... Otherwise Police and EMTs would have to wait to get a warrant or wait to a have a power of attorney authorize entry. I can imagine the call now " I called 911 and told them what was happening but they just sat in their cars for 45 minutes as my loved one was inside having a heart attack because they said they had to get a warrant because they couldn't see or hear them."
@@adam88721 you're mostly correct. However a request for a welfare check alone is in fact NOT considered Exigent Circumstances, that would require visual or auditory alerts upon arrival tot he domicile in question. The courts have afformed this on MULTIPLE occasions. Since a request for a welfare check doesn't require belief that someone is in fact in danger it can not by itself be used as Exigent Circumstances. Any time an officer comes to a locked barrier (Door, Gate, Wall, etc etc) unless there is IMEDIATE signs someone is in danger (screaming yelling seeing someone with a weapon etc etc) the Officer is not able to pass said barrier without a Warrant per the 4th Amendment, Some states have specific laws regarding this and some of those laws have in fact been struck down by SCOTUS. A fairly recent example of this issue is State of Arizona v. Cody Mitchell Lohse where the judge dismissed all charges because Police ignored a no trespassing sign and entered the property anyways. Remarks by the Judge... “Thus, because law enforcement officers without a warrant are no more privileged to enter the curtilage of a home than the general public… entry under such circumstances would constitute an unreasonable search under the Fourth Amendment,” wrote Chief Judge Peter Eckerstrom.
@@TyphoidSnaily "a request for a welfare check alone is in fact NOT considered Exigent Circumstances" Never said it was..... Again.. because there was clearly exigent circumstances here.. the deputy had every right to go onto that property. The call from a known caller who had a close relationship with the subject indicating he was in danger. Pretty clearly reasonable and seeing how this case ended up... so did the judge and jury who had all the facts to this case.
I still want to know what happened to the cops coat he went over the fence with one left without it?
Sonshine Thomas I thought I was the only that noticed that!
you'd forget your coat too if you had a literal madman chasing you with a weapon, let alone a loaded firearm.....
But how does it come off? It looked zipped up at first too
Checking if Hes hit while running
@@kavalogue the description said he got hit in his forehead by shotgun pellets. I didn't see blood. Sounds like alot of bs on this story.
I have never seen anything like this. Didn’t say ‘shots fired’ to start, no call for back up, horrible situation to have a crazy dude comin’ after you tho! Out of his mind. At least he tagged him!
Glad to see the man acting as a cop alive. It was surreal watching him run for his life.
That because he was caught being somewhere where he shouldn't of been.
@@faervas1234to a place where he was called ?
Did anyone notice his sirens not on? His seriously waited for this dude to turn lol 15:03 right after he was just shot
Half Maican He was grazed he was not shot.
Half Maican
And from the looks of it, driving UNDER the posted speed limit.
Still worthy of turning your sirens on if you ask me
The idea was to get away, easy to find/follow the siren..
Half Maican
neither were his lights. What's your point?
Fight or flight... already injured...no backup... I would want to be where someone could render aid to me... being trained doesn't mean exempt from fear!
@Raccoon City you are an idiot atent you?
Fear is necessary to stay alive. Training doesn't suppress fear, it teaches you how to deal with it and even use it.
That boy did not look like he needed a wellness check at all 😂
The kid casually walked to the gate and fired a couple shots. Surreal.
Never seen a cop say “fuck that” n jus leave the scene altogether before. Wow this man drove all the way home it seems!
thats the chickin shit nature of the police!
The Notorious Joe WHIPS! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣😂😂😂😂😁😁
The Notorious Joe WHIPS! what's so funny you wasn't even trying to clown
Jak Li 😂😂😂😂 im dead ass
hiteck001 he had been hit in the head, waist, and arm by shotgun pellets. I wouldn’t call that chicken shit, I would call it survival.
I love how this man is hit. AND HE STILL OBEYS THE TRAFFIC LAWS. this man is a legend am I right?
I don't understand why thou
No
He's a dumbass who forgot he has lights and sirens lmao
No he's a criminal.
get hit by a gun shot and go drive see how it goes its not easy got shot in my side i tried to drive fast slow i could not drive almost at all so him driving at all is a wow
First time I've seen an armed man running from a guy with a handgun.
I'm shook ! Never seen a cop run yet leave a scene
The reason he left the scene was because he was shot in the forehead, shoulder and waist all from a shotgun. He was seeking medical assistance.
He was shot in the forehead? How is he not dead?
I've know Michael since high school, just a rookie officer at the time of this incident in West Point. And to all those pansy's bashing him, try driving 25 minutes to get to the nearest hospital while bleeding out. 😉
Glad he survived and I hope he's doing well.
He was far from "bleeding out"
Drove farther than that holding my lower jaw up after getting hit in the face with a rock 3 times. Also drove myself to the hospital after getting stabbed multiple times while ACTUALLY bleeding out. Your Cop buddy wouldn't have had to drive himself anywhere after getting shot and wouldn't have even gotten shot if he hadn't committed Criminal Trespass. I'm sure next time he won't ignore a no trees sign and hop a closed and locked gate (on the other side of the hinges fucking up the gate) either.
I constantly post against bad cops but I have friends who are good cops .. and I couldn't imagine someone trying to hurt them like this because of how much good ppl they truly are .. I feel for your friend and I'm glad he made it out alive .. I know there's bad copsnout there which Is why ppl are on here rooting for the shooter but human decency has not been lost with all of us
@@TyphoidSnaily ooo wee you sure are a badass, hope to be as cool as you one day
OMG! One minute in & I'm thinking...
-Deputy is Alone
-Doesn't Call Backup
-Climbs over the Gate, -Leaves his Car behind
-Approaches House
-Doesn't have Cover
This poor Deputy is a Sitting Duck!
This video illustrates the pure courage of our local police that want to serve and protect us.
Run Forest run!
I hope you all understand that this officer was informed that the patient who later turned into the suspect was having an episode of mental illness(psychosis) and the officer was going there on a hopefully he's not dead checkup. Also, factoring this into the gunfight not having lethal force right away I'm sure is because the officer probably knows how fucked up it is to be going through that and didn't want to kill the man but instead get some help to incapacitate him and get him help
It doesnt matter the terrorist broke the law by jumping the fence, pigs need to be held accountable for laws just like every single citizen. They are not above the law.
Thanks
officer was trespassing! the suspect was found not guilty.
TheGoldenChodeTV
FUCK THAT IF HE WAS BLACK HE WAS DEAD YESTERDAY!
That Car Guy so tell me, how do you do a welfare check from behind the gate? If you hate Police Officers so much why don't you do the right thing so you never have to deal with them?
start at 9:30 for those who are impatient like me
Is there a 2nd part?
