According to the court case (his "side of the story"), the shooter had 6 bottles of beer that afternoon, and killed the deputies because he didn't want to go to jail. His second wife was inside the house for the entire span of the events.
He continued shooting at officers because he wanted to die, but it took 1 bullet to change his mind.

It is exactly right. While the tragedy and loss of two humans just doing their job isn't lost on me, and I imagine certainly not on the responding officers, they are sworn officers of the law. Justice is about just that, Justice... not vindication. We can only commend the responding officers for having clarity of mind to keep what are overwhelming emotions in check. They neutralized the assailant, apprehended him and summited him for processing into the legal system, where, the American public has , as the empowered jury of his peers convicted him of the crime, and a trained versed legal professional administered appropriate sentencing within the color of the law.
Tragic events, 10/10 for the officers responding, a credit to the badge and their profession.

Old man was a hero. This wasn’t about “pride”, this was about being disrespected in his own house and then being arrested for refusing to backdown and just take that disrespect. This was a pushback against police tyranny as well and there’s going to be a lot more of these types of shootouts in coming years as the government continues to become more and more tyrannical and expects police to carry out unconstitutional orders.

"Body armor" (he is wearing a plate carrier) isn't necessarily meant to keep you in the fight, it's to save your life. It is meant to protect your vital organs, and when something hits you elsewhere a tourniquet is applied and you are evacuated to someplace your injuries can be tended to. At least in a military sense this is how it is done. You don't shake off being hit like in a video game.
