- Restoring an ottoman scissors from 1900. I found a very old but beautiful ottoman scissors on the internet. I immediately bought it and restored it. First of all, the scissors were disassembled. Then I removed the padding on the handle of the scissors. Since the scissors were quite rusty, they were sandblasted. I wanted to harden the metal of the scissors. That's why I gave the scissors heated and then cooled in the oil. The process was successful because a black layer (slag) formed. Then I sanded the surface and polished it to a high gloss. The handle of the scissors was covered with leather. The scissors look like new. Now she can survive against 100 years.

No annoying music, no talking, plenty of info, beautiful shots, masterful work.
Weren't you also on that rug video-
Oh-keh-
Since you are so excited about what's happening why is he holding a inside and outside depth Guage what does that symbolize???
What do you mean plenty of info
… you say this about all his videos? Cause I swear I seen this same exact comment yesterday on one.
I like how most of the time, the restorations made are faithful to the original construction. But he also often makes small changes to make them function just a bit better, like making the scissors deconstructable instead of permanently bound like before. He's not just restoring them, he's making them efficient/updated to an extent.
Tysm for no annoying music- this is very satisfying! I think I will watch your videos from now on.
I never would have thought those scissors would cut that cleanly. Nice work.
I LOVE how dramatic big old scissors look! Seems like something Atropos would use
Nice restoration! I enjoyed all the effort you put into production too!
I am very happy that you liked the video 😊.
Greetings from Germany 🇩🇪
@@MWRestoration Ello! I recently found a quarter that didn’t even look like the ones we have today. Any tips on how to restore it? I’d like to save it as kind of a token, cause when I found it my mind wasn’t in a very great place.
Which gloves do you have?
The patina on the scissor blades is beautiful!
Your video was a ‘shear’ pleasure to watch.
Aha! I see you😂😂
I like the vintage style of the leather you have put on it.
Yes, the leather looks really nice 🤩. It also feels quite good in the hand.
Omg you polished them so thoroughly that I wouldn't believe it's just steel without plating. And your grinding stone is amazing! They've become so sharp!
Thank you for your effort, it was pleasant to see.
Things were made to last in those days. Beautiful restoration
So Cool back when they made these, they made things with Great Quality an Precison too. All things made back there were Made to last. AWESOME work, I love how you restored them an made them almost like new. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for your comment 😊👍. Now the scissors can survive against the next 100 years 🤩.
Not really, great quality would have been stainless steel, these are rusty crap sadly
@David Davidsonn not always hun. But then again that's your oppion. An there is nothing wrong with that
@@daviddavidsonn3578 these look older than the invention of stainless steel. (hand forged)
Also, carbon steel is often said to be harder and sharper, and you don't need stainless steel unless you let your sissors rot in a damp place.
This restauration worked out really well. I liked to see how the original product hollowed out the blades to safe precious metal. You recreated a useful tool there! Thanks for sharing.
This is the first time I see the video of Restoration of a pair of big rusty Scissors.
Enjoy watching you restore ancient items, LOVES the Sand blaster❣
I anticipate the sandblasting ❤😂 every time.
Those are dress maker shears. They were used to cut large bolts of cloth.
Смотрю на одном дыхании. До чего же интересно смотреть, как старая вещь оживает и начинает новую жизнь.
Russian?
Before restoration it looked like a key item out of a FromSoftware game
Bloodborne lookin ass scissors (at the beginning)
Cool video
that was amazing to watch, the scissors looked so cool at the end. - i cringed a little at then end tho. in design school one of the WORST things you could do is cut paper/cardboard with your fabric scissors! 😮
I think it was to demonstrate that the scissors could be used in a variety of ways.
@@cynthiakent4033yes i'm sure - was just a surprise for me!
Right?
@@cynthiakent4033 true, but the fabric should have been cut first.
My favorite part was the arts and crafts at the end 🥰😂
The rope you cut from the scissors have been picking up so much dirt and dust, I’m glad you restored the scissors tho it was a good asmr
JustA is right. You are a master of art.
@4:31 tbh, this is a terrible temper lol. VERY LARGE variation in temp across the piece lol. It was fun to see though! Good video! 👍
They looked like something from a horror movie before. The after is just amazing.
I have never seen one of these restoration channels make an edge correctly
What a shine! Love the leather wrap.
Thanks 😊
Wow, I was way more relieved than I should have been when I saw the leather straps 😂
Até as tesouras velhas, se tornam múmias! Mas, quando chegam nas mãos do cirurgião de metais, renasce das cinzas, e se tornam peças únicas, e estilosas. Parabéns! Por esse lindo ofício...
Belas palavras...👏
I like how you did tests on the scissors to see how well it can cut
Extremely ok video 🤙💯
Pretty sure those are older than 1900’s. More like 1800’s.
I don't understand why one of the first things you did was harden and temper the steel
All the other metalwork would have been so much easier if you annealed the metal first did all the work except the final polish and then hardened and tempered the metal
Yup
E
Precisely
It's not thick metal, so I suspect they would have warped when quenched. The blade grinding at least would need to be done after hardening.
I do not understand why he hardened and tempered the steel at all. I'd rather assume that the blacksmith who once made the scissors knew his steel and how to treat it so that it became both hard and tough. Hardness does not go away with time or a rusty surface.
"Forged in Fire" is waiting for you buddy 🔥
I am thinking this kind of scissors, people use for tailoring, and seamstress work. I love when things can be recycled. It's makes the world a better place. Thank you for recycling.
Magic in your hands!
❤First time seeing your work. You are an artisan in restoration.❤
This bad boy will win rock-paper-scissors any day!
Beautiful work, meditative , thank u
I held my breath when you were cutting the ribbon , idk why, but I FELT that rust dust entering my lungs 🤣🤣
Job skillfully done ,thanks.
Thanks 😊
Better than those new ones!
Наследники хозяев этих ножниц теперь кусают локти от зависти. Спасибо, замечательное произведение искусства получилось!
Props to you for going all the way to Silent Hill for those scissors!
i wish to own all of those tools in the future
Love to see you restore a Freddy Kruger glove.
You should have done most of that sanding and filing before you hardened it. You just made you job infinitely more difficult because of that.
Just came here to say this.
no
Would there not be a risk of the metal deforming after hardening and tempering so that they don’t function correctly though?
My g just let the guy have fun lol
Let bro work like dang he don’t deserve the criticism right now let him have his way
I love that they still showed the pitting, makes them more beautiful than brand new! Amazing results and I wouldn't have believed it if I hadn't seen it done.
omg when he put his finger between the scissors, my anxiety shot through the roof
Nice pretzel scissors 😂, I can't unsee it. Great job on the outcome though I would have personally liked the oil darkened black scissors with the same colored wrapping for the handles as the original. Patina looks always get me.
ITS SO SATISFYING!!!
It's beautiful, but the blades are so much thinner now...
It looks so brand new that it almost looks like they threw those old ones out and brought a new one at Walmart
I'm pretty sure those were shears, with their shape and size. Very interesting :)
Lovely restoration. If you use scissors for cutting paper, you shouldn't use them to cut fabric as the paper dulls the blades x
Oh I didn't know that
Хотелось бы в живую у тебя оказаться в мастерской. Я бы миллион вопросов задавала. Мне нравится идея, как из старого делать новое. Молодец!😘👍
I wonder how epoxy handles would have looked
Great video
These Are cool!!! I found another exactly like your's except they didn't have the fabric wrapped around the Handel's. I've a.ways been into vintage and antique things my entire life. I guess you could say my grandmother got me into these sorts of things. It brings me pure joy to see things in there old correct way and I also love to see things get a pick me up where people bring them back to life and restore them to new. I really enjoyed this video so thank you very much for making it. I'll have to be honest I had no idea what this scissors were for LOL. At first I thought they were farming scissors used cut the balls off of cows and sheeps but I guess I was wrong on that one LOL LOL. Those years are so big I can imagine they could be used for a lot of things;-).
Beautiful job.
solid 9 out of ten .. pretty good result considering what you started with
I have some of those scissors at home.
the seamstresses go crazy
Hi,
Tip : You do not need to use petrol stuff and flame to light your charcoal. Just use your hot air gun directly on charcoal. It takes a little time but it's quite more satisfying ;-)
Regards
Awesome job!
The cutting edge of restoration!.
Good one!🤣
This was an interesting restoration. I've never seen scissors that big! I will admit to a bit of a giggle watching you cut the fabric strips with the teeny scissors. 😄
I’ve noticed aloe Vera is pretty good at removing rust for people who dont have any tools
I specifically noticed this with the green gel kind idk if it works with any other
Now it looks nice after the Restoration work.
That is so cool after the scissors look bran new
Exactly
Awesome restoration 👌🏻
0:33 my neighbors when I try to sleep
My neighbors are whole video🥴
Hahhahaahha
Ngl the new handle wrap looks like a pretzel. . . But amazing video lol
This was fascinating
Awesome!!!!!
Супер. Дякую. УКРАЇНА.
Nice job! Congratulations.
I'm not sure you're dressing your sharpening wheel correctly. But seems to have worked fine
👍👍👍👍👍
What does that mean? Dressing? Is that when he had the wet stone on it?
Subscribed
wouldnt the steel be hardened already? if you wanted to test if it was hard after heating you should have used a file too
i like how shiny there are. looks cool! :)
Thanks 🤩😊
It’s crazy how the ouside is so dull and rusty but if you simply drill a hole you can see how shiny it once was
When he put his finger in I had a heart attack 😂
🤣😊
All I can say is ✨Kwispy✨
Like how do u know how to do all this stuff? So cool I love this lol. U did a hell of a job on this
That rust removal is satisfying.
Nice job man
Super cool!
