- Restoring a Vintage 1933s Bar Billiards: Bringing the Old Rusty Beauty Back to Life
Welcome to my CZcams channel, dear viewers! Today, I want to take you on an exciting journey through the restoration of an impressive billiard table from 1933, showcasing all its fascinating details.
This billiard table was a true gem that I discovered on CZcams, albeit in a heavily damaged condition. However, with my craftsmanship and a touch of passion, I managed to breathe new life into this old treasure.
One of the biggest challenges was the playing surface, which was severely warped. But I didn't let that discourage me and decided to completely replace it. You'll be amazed at how it looks in the end!
The cues were also in poor shape, but after thorough sanding and treating them with high-quality oil, they now look brand new. To give them the final touch, I mounted custom-made aluminum end caps on the cues. These end caps were personally crafted by me using a lathe machine, and I'm truly proud of the result.
But that's not all! The metal digits that display the scores were entirely missing. To replace them, I created a mold using a 3D printer. A piece of sheet metal was placed inside the mold, and then I used a hammer to shape the metal. The result? Perfectly formed metal digits that completed the table.
The wooden frame of the billiard table was also heavily worn, but after hours of work, sanding, and staining, it now shines like new. A finish with high-quality oil ensures it will remain in top condition for many years to come.
In this video, I'll guide you through the entire restoration process, step by step, so you can fully appreciate the attention to detail and effort that went into this project. Perhaps this restoration will even inspire you to start your own DIY project!

Wow, great, the wait was definitely worth it! You've hammered the plaques into the aluminum much better than I managed to do. (The link in the description doesn't work 😉 )
Unfortunately, I posted the project later than I imagined. I thank you again for your work 😊. Sorry again that the link doesn't work. I've changed the link now. But it takes a while for CZcams to make it visible to everyone.
The link still does not work

I feel like a minor improvement on the original design would be to slight recess around the holes so the upper edge of the metal ring would sit completely flush with the table.
But also dang, the manufacturing of that missing ring was spot on!
Thanks for your comment 👍. I'm still amazed at how the ring was made. it's so intense that you can make a ring out of a metal tube. just crazy. 😁
Looks amazing, but it would have been nice to keep some of the original patina.
Oh man I look up and down Kleinanzeigen and spend this way at least two hours a day, but you pull one unique item out of your cylinder after the other 😂. Thank you once again for an amazing restoration 😉👍
Hey CZcams friend 😊. You also make cool videos. you're right, I also look all the time on ebay classified ads to see if anyone has posted anything new. it's a bit crazy that you're looking for very old rusty objects. Where most people only buy new things. are you also from germany 🇩🇪?
@@MWRestoration yes also from Germany. I live in Darmstadt, what about you?

Beautiful work. I never tought possible to emboss metal with 3D printed plastic. It's way less brittle than I imagined.
But it has to be aluminum. Metal would be too hard and break the plastic 3d print. but with thin sheet aluminum it goes very well. you can print so many different shapes
If it works on aluminum, it would also work on annealed 321 stainless of the same thickness
Amazing job on pressing the red marks. The finished set is perfect, thanks
Thank you for your comment 👍. It takes me a few tries to get the perfect result, but it was worth it.
why am i watching this at 3am

You're not alone bro
Me 5 am, I can't sleep
I'm watching it at 1:30 a.m. Why????

Lovely refurbishment. Should last 100 years and might even end up in a museum of childhood games.
I have to do a good idea 👍
It's a beautiful restoration, and it looks like a very intersting game !
Thanks😊
Love seeing old games restored. Excellent work!!
Восхитительно! Я не смог оторваться от просмотра, кажется я даже не моргал - настолько это видео завораживающее. Спасибо!
Спасибо за просмотр и за ваши добрые слова, мне очень приятно 👍🙂❤
Sometimes what works, just works. This is _the_ style for restoration vids. Everyone puts their own twist on it, but the nondescript hands working over a bare table and lathe is the go to. Still rad, just interesting.
Thanks buddy. Yes I this restoration went very well 😊
Beautiful restoration of a fantastic piece I’ve never seen anything like this before
Thanks bro 😊👋
The stain looked beautiful and the whole process from start to end was captivating.
Magnificent work of art!! I love everything but all the metal parts were the best!! Congratulations!!
Thanks buddy. Yes I this restoration went very well ;-)
The restoration is amazing!
Thanks buddy 👍
Really nice rehab of this billiard table. Cheers
We had game table similar to this in the 70s as kids, the fights we had to get to play it
Those were good times when children still played properly. now the kids only play computer games. that's a bit of a shame
I like how you left the small nicks and dings alone instead of using wood filler on them. They add some charm and character.
That's exactly how it is. I've had some comments as to why I didn't use a wood spatula to fill in the holes. I explained to people that you don't always have to repair everything 100 percent. You should be able to tell that this is a very old item, but it is in good condition.
La bonne restauration c'est de ne rien changer ou de ne rien ajouter ou extraire de l'ancien objet 😊. Juste réparer ☺️
👍
Absolutely beautiful to watch and a superb restoration, the numbers were beautifully done. Just to complete the job you should draw a baulk line across the table with a 'D' on it and there should be either three or four skittles, depending on which rules you play to. One should be black, two should be white and there can be a red one. I have a full sized one and very much enjoy a game when I have visitors.
Having the right tools & equipment certainly helps. Fantastic craftsmanship. !!!
Thanks buddy. Yes I this restoration went very well ;-)
it’s 9am and i have not went to sleep yet these videos are the only thing keeping me sane atm
Would love that powder coat setup! Awesome restore
Such a great stain you chose. Much better then the original. And this classic game is now looking the best it's ever been.
Thank you for your comment 👍. you are right, now it looks better than the original 😁
I have never seen someone use a lathe to shape metal like you did. That's so cool!
It is called Metal Spinning
@@johanjanssens4530 Thank you. I appreciate your input. I will look into it.
Oh wow. When you fell out of the talent tree you certainly hit every branch on the way down!!! Unbelievable work my friend. 👌👏🏻👍🏻
Thanks for watching and for your kind words I really appreciate it 👍🙂❤
Would absolutely love this in my game room
There's lots of things I really enjoyed about this video.
I was impressed with how you made the ring out of copper tube and how you made and finished the numbers.
But what I like most is how accessible this is. Based on this video alone, if I wanted to, I could repeat this process.
It's a soothing and cathartic video that I liked from start to finish.
You could not repeat this based on this video alone. Stop it.
Making a new copper ring, man that looked effortless and my mind couldn't understand how you achieved it.
You must be a machinist with all the shortcuts and tricks! Amazing

Videos like these make me want to go to vocational school after I retire from the post office and learn tool and die so I can do this stuff.
😁😅
i love miniature billiards. i have 2 sets. great job saving this piece.
Thanks for your comment. It's cool that you also have bar pool tables like this. These days it's not that common anymore.
@@MWRestoration i got them as a gift a long time ago, though i havent used them in 10 years. always strive to conserve the past, they will never make things like these ever again.
Excellent restauración but i sugested the Woody fill the holes whit sealant is more Nice 🇻🇪👍🏻🤘👏

Thanks
I like this video because so detail part restoration 👍
Beautiful job
Thanks 😊
Looks amazing, my family used to make billiard tables, the only step missing is leveling the table, you can see that the table is not leveled when he started playing.
Just a beautiful job.
Thank you so much 😊❤

Very impressive work mate! So many steps involved. I like that you formed the missing ring yourself👌

Stunning piece of work, need to see if they make them a bit more normal size now. Keep up the great vids 👍
Thank you for your comment. Stay tuned for the next videos 👋
Professional 👍
Thanks buddy 😊
Very high quality work, i like the 3D printed number molds.
I think the only thing that might be more appropriate for such an old item would be to use oil paint on the aluminum numbers, and maybe polish or nickel plate the corners and latches rather than plastic coat "chrome"
Beautiful restoration!
Very nice! Hours of fun, both before and after restoring this table billiards game. Nice trick with transforming that piece of tube into a ring.
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it. 😊
Wonderful restoration! Thank you for sharing!
Thanks😊
I love this kind of stuff. Good job!❤
Outstanding work, so beautiful ❤

Super master! 👋🙂👍
Thanks buddy. 😊
Schöne Arbeit, ist wirklich gut gelungen. 👍😃
Beautifull work
Very nice restoration I have never seen a portable billiards table before, I thought it was sales mans sample at first.
Just stunning great work all involved
This looks like so much fun!
you are a craftsman
Fascinating. The ways you made the pocket rings, and especially using the 3d printed mold to hammer out the labels, were really surprising to me. But looks great.
It took me a little time to get the result to look good. But I think it was worth it
I love these restorations I do find it funny that instead of restoring they just make a whole new one lol
The cue sticks could be tipped to give them a profesional look, but the overall restoration was amazing by itself.
Thank you for the feedback! We'll consider your suggestion for the cue sticks. Glad you liked the overall restoration! 😊🎱
Wow! What a beautiful bit of craftsmanship..subbed.
Thank you for the kind words and the sub! We appreciate your support. 😊👍

A big thank you for sharing your passion, you have a lot of talent.
I have the same billiards that just requires a little refreshment.
I just lack the rubber to restore the strips and I don't know where to find them or how to replace them. Do you have an idea? Thanks
I wouldn't mind having a mini table like this to compliment our regular table, but I can't find them - all the ones that look like this are full size
