In this video I am restoring a Tonka Crane. The restoration was not easy. The project consisted of many parts, which also cost me a lot of time. But the result is impressive. The Tonka Crane looks like new.

Who of you also had a Tonka crane?
Oh my gosh, I had one when I was younger. It turns out my was buried under some stuff in my parent's garage so I brought it home to my own kids a few weeks ago. I don't have the means to restore it but I did take it apart and clean it up for them.
Still have mine in the attic. One of my most favorite pieces. Wish it looked like yours! AWESOME WORK. 👌👌
I have about 150 mighty tonkas, several of every model. Looking forward to more restoration videos.
I had one Tonka as a kid and it was very similar to this crane. So nice see one come back to life.

My brother and I had these. Spent more time arguing about who’s truck was ours than moving sand/dirt. My grandfather finally got tired of the arguing and painted mine red…😅. Loved this restoration. 👍🏼

I had one as a kid in the 80s the boom was solid back had no holes
Tonka was also a very popular brand back then. Unfortunately, they no longer make metal toys😔.

I have the Nylint version, which is mostly the same, except Nylint cranes were tri-axle instead of bi-axle, which I always thought and still do think look better.

at my old elementary school (2020) we had a 1960s red tonka wheel loader but I loved it one of my favorite sand box trucks, But, as every thing else, it was destroyed in 3 months. 😭😭😭😭😥

Is it just me or does it look like it bends in the middle to fold the crane up so it can safely drive on the roads?

I had one when I was young I was 4 or 5 but I had one of those tonka truck very hard to brake since all metal they dont make toys like they used to
Nowadays toys are not like they used to be. Than just plastic. I think it's a shame.

My dads got the same one in my grandparents basement, everything is very rusty and probably needs to be replaced

@@MWRestoration all the paint is gone ,the windshield is yellowed and cracked , the teeth on the bucket are bent/ missing, it would be great if I could find someone to fix it for me so can give back it to my dad. I will try to find a picture if you are interested
Please understand that I do not restore other projects. Because I don't have time due to time constraints. If the tonka is that badly damaged I would buy a second one to butcher it off. Then you have the necessary parts you need.

I had the whole collection of tonka truck, bulldozer,front end loader, Crane and the grader and a couple more but I don't remember.Between me and my brothers we had the whole collection until my older brothers decided to blow them with firecracker 🧨🧨🧨 M-80's. I was pissed about that.
I have this exact same model but I am missing the window and cab on the crane part and the crank lift assy I'm wondering if those parts are still available I hope so would you know by chance

I have a crane a crane that I want to restore . Where do you purchase the rivet kit and installation tool as well as the decals, new cable for the boom and bucket. I do not have a powder coat system and will be spray painting it, what is the color yellow that matches the original color? Can you provide a breakdown of the chemicals you used to clean the plastic parts and the Tires?

I think this crane is a beautiful model. You have carried out a beautiful and successful restoration! Everything is beautiful painted.
However, I miss some moments of the assembly, such as the assembly of the crane turning system.
Don’t paint the black plastic parts. Use heat/fire to restore them.

I have a tonka crane my parents bought me for Christmas when I was little. I still have it and would like to one day have it restored and give it to my grandson.

I don't restore items for other people. This is just my hobby.
As always inspiring again. I have an old Crane too waiting to be fully restored. Why did you cut the axles in half rather than fix them up entirely with the use of 'original' hubcaps? And I see the use of modern conical fasteners with newly threaded rods. Are repro's of the old ones not available? Just being curious, because I'll have to make some decisions as well, regarding my Crane. And do you know how to get brown tarnished windshields transparent again? Nice job you've done there!
