Want to see me test this with a 2080 Ti? Update: Here's the video! czcams.com/video/EcrcF9wwT3E/video.html
Jarrod'sTech would the 8565U bottleneck the 2080Ti?
It sure would, but we can still still try it and at least play games where we couldn't before!
do 2060 too
Absolutely!
Jarrod I really really really appreciate you putting closed captions, it helps so much! ♥️♥️♥️👍👍👍
No problem!
Love your work Jarrod. Your overall cinematography is great
Thanks mate!
I'm glad you are planning to test this with external GPU. Can't wait!
so 1000 for the laptop, and another 1000 for GPU box, sounds like a good idea to you? why not just bring a desktop around?
@@bradhaines3142 just want to know some other options and info about the performance with external GPU.

Great review. I’m very interested in the Ice Lake powered 2 in 1. Please review when it’s available!!
Thanks! I'll see what I can do 😁
Hey Jarrod, I was wondering if you still have DELL XPS 13 9360 (7th gen or 8th gen version). Don't you feel 9380's speaker sounds pretty low? I mean, with 100% max volume, use the same software Waves maxx audio pro that was build in the system. Like my 9360's speaker is definitely sounds louder and richer. Is it the speaker issue? I updated each driver on the website but my 9380 still sounds like a smartphone level. Is it because they make it thinner and lighter which means the speaker is smaller than 9360's speaker?
Every statement starts high and ends in low bass. Every. Single. One.
Exactly as planned.
@@JarrodsTech lol - czcams.com/video/qcszyb5d7nA/video.html
I am still happy with my 2014 XPS 13. Super reliable and durable. Best laptop ever.
Good to hear!
Awesome video as always.
Waiting for the external GPU video!
Thanks! Coming soon 😁
Came to this video while looking for reviews on xps 13 2-in-1. Stayed to watch entire video.
Hopefully I can get the 2-in-1 some time!
Great video! I will wait for the eGPU video :)

Great review! Is there going to be a review on the XPS 15 7590?
Thanks! Honestly not sure, have never got 15" from them to review before so will have to see if it's something they can lend.
It would be really helpful if he could review the XPS 15
Excellent review mate
Cheers!
Great video! I have the 1080p version. It is an amazing laptop for daily usage.
Thanks, good to hear!
You got coil whine on your one TIK?
Thanks for the review! Can you do a review on the System 76 darter pro?
Not sure, will find out if they ship to Australia or what.
@@JarrodsTech Ah okay. Will be super cool if they did. They're growing so hopefully they'll be keen for a CZcamsr to out their new gear to the test
grabbed this for my wife and she loves it! great little laptop other than the lack of type A usb
Nice to hear! Yeah I hear that, we're still not quite at the point where everything just uses Type-C ☹
to be honest though I wish I went with the xps 15. it's the same price and they have deals sometimes here in canada where it's cheaper than the 13 even with better specs. not sure why.
How well does this hold up? I’m reading online that the customer service is terrible and many users are having lots of technical difficulties with the xps 13 within the first 2 years and even first few months of use
It's hard for me to say as I only had this for a few weeks for the review, unfortunately testing long term is rarely possible for me to do
You should def review the xps 13 2 in 1 with the new 10th gen processors. I would love to see how that keyboard feels and sounds and see how fast the computer is compared to the regular xps 13. Thanks!!
Hopefully they can lend me one!
Was considering a full $3000 gaming laptop but decided to go with XPS 13 1080p 16gb RAM 512gb SSD model on sale for around $1500 with tax. Great daily overall for what it does (surfing, movies, work stuff) since I’m planning on building a full gaming pc later on with the rest of the budget.
$1500 USD right? I hope so.. Just got the same model for $2099AUD which seems reasonable
@@PedalScience yea USD
I'm looking for a good 'all round' laptop, but the audio issues with the XPS line are a problem as I want to try my hand at music production. If there wasn't the ongoing issues with Huawei, I'd consider getting a Matebook X Pro instead.
Fair enough
Do you think the chip used in the new XPS 13 2 in 1 would be more powerful? Cor some reason I am liking what I see on that model even more than this one but dont know how well that new chip will compare to this
I hope so, it's meant to be 10nm, but haven't seen benchmarks for those yet.
Hey Jarrod!
Are gaming laptops now worrh buying because of the new Nvida Super cards?
I doubt we'll see super in laptops, but need to wait and see I guess. It seems to be to compete with AMD on the desktop side, however there's no such competition when it comes to laptops.
I got mine XPS 13 9380 with i7 and 8G, 256G SAMSUNG PM981, it runs really quiet. I was amazed they push that CPU TDP to 25W or even more which for a U series CPU is quiet impressive.
Nice!
@@JarrodsTech Which is also fairly cheap, I got the day when they have most models for 10% off, so I choose this i7 model which only cost me 1600 CAD after tax. GREAT VALUE tho
Hi everyone,
I am currently using the XPS12 9380, 4k touchscreen. I have been sourcing for a good stylus for taking down notes on my laptop for the past few months. However, 9380 does not support an active stylus and DELL does not have any stylus made for this model too. DOES anyone know any good and accurate stylus I could get? I am stuck with those rubber tip styluses, which are not accurate and only have a short lifespan. Please help me out. Thank you!
I don't have any stylus experience, sorry, hopefully someone else can advise!
Can you include stuff like PS or Lightroom performances? Many people use laptops for photo editing and the hardware plays a big roll.
:)
To be honest I don't know how to benchmark those, I'll look into it for future.
im more hyped for the 13 2 in 1 review and release.
but I'm also excited for what they do with the regular one next year since it will very likely get the same CPU and the igpu is a nice upgrade.
Exactly, the 2 in 1 looks great this year.
👍👍
Love the unbias nature of your reviews. Keep it up
Thanks!
The i7 8gb ram version of this or the new Base Macbook pro 13inch 2019 i5 8gb ram? for general programming purpose
I haven't used a macbook since 2012 so cannot make the comparison, sorry. Depends more on whether you want to use Windows or MacOS.
I need a laptop before October. Im looking into this. Do you think I should throw my money into this now or wait to see if a better laptop comes out?
That depends, I suggest doing research on laptops before making a purchase, I've been looking at this laptop for a long time now, and I've noticed A, that it apparently has a coil whine, (however, that seems to be the minority, still something to note.) B, that you can't exchange the ram card on the XPS, unless you decide to customize on their site.
TL; DR wait and research on a better laptop, you don't want to end up with a laptop that hinders your performance.
Look into when the new 10nm version is meant to come out, not sure when that's planned but might be a nice improvement.
Since you measured a quite good result for the display, it could be an interesting portable machine to edit photos. But I'm not sure about the video editing capabilities of it. I guess it would be fine with the 16 GB RAM for 1080p videos?🤔
I think it would do ok for the editing process, but the exporting would be another question, 1080p shouldn't be too hard though.
any dell xps 13 9380 user can tell me about the coil whine and heating issue? has there been a bios update for that until today? considering buying it than x1 carbon but still worried about the coil whine and heaiting issue.
I spoke briefly about coil whine in my unit "At idle the fan was silent, and I could just hear some coil whine." as for thermals I had to send this machine back after this review so have not had a chance to test with newer BIOS if there has been an update.
@@JarrodsTech thank you for the heads up. I'm gonna hold my purchase and do some diggings to other sites. Cheers
No problem, let us know what you find! Always keen to see what other results others have, I'm just a small sample size of one.
Wait, that green FPS count in the top-left corner, isn’t that from Nvidia Geforce Experience?
It's from FRAPS.
Jarrod, any chance on checking the pwm on the aero 15 OLED?
I am not currently sure how to do this.
@@JarrodsTech thats ok, thanks for trying man. There are some rudimentary tests online, but they are not as precise as i would like them to be.
The only thing I dislike about this laptop is lack of normal USB type a ports and to me it would be a deal breaker. Transfer a large file from a colleague via usb? nah, my premium laptop doesn't have that, it's too premium for it!
honestly, the dongle does exist i believe they include it, and USB-C will eventually take over.
@@jg14gerhard_bar the problem is dongles are uncomfortable and one may forget to take it with him, and by the time USB C really takes over this laptop will be severely outdated. I am not against progress, but they could leave at least 1 normal USB port for older devices. Wait what am I talking about... USB a devices are still made in huge quantities which vastly outmatch the amount of USB type c ones.
I don't like dongles, but I guess one day all our external devices might use Type-C anyway and it won't be an issue
@@JarrodsTech until they come up with another port in like 10-15 years from now lol

Man I would like to hear your opinion... What do I need to know before to change my old disk and put a new ssd?!! I can't clone my old disk and I don't want to clone but I don't know if I need to buy windows 8.1......I had problems with my laptop... (reboot and select proper boot device or insert boot media in selected boot device and press a key).... I don't know how to fix it.... I want to save my old information but start again with a new ssd disc... I can't buy a new laptops this year so can you comment please!!!! Thanks
you could buy a separate windows license, put it on the new ssd, and have your information on a separate hard drive. boot onto the new ssd, then load your info from the hard drive
You can get Windows pretty cheap from some places. I forget how 8 works, but with 10 you can log in with a Windows account and I believe it ties the license to your account for what ever machine you log into. You can probably read the data off the old disk once you connect it to a working machine.
I understand why they put the cam on top of the screen, the nose cam wasn't the best placement but losing Windows Hello just for having the camera on top is worse than the previous placement - there's nothing better than unlocking your computer by looking at it.
Having said that, the new "frost white" color looks really nice
Yeah it's a trade off I suppose, as someone that doesn't actually use the webcam I think I'd prefer the unlock feature.
I think I'm gonna get it. It looks very nice. Might go with the 1080p one with 8gb of RAM. Definitely will choose Frost white
Brian Evans choose black cos white doesnt look as good as it used to when first bought after a year. Marks and stains are more likely to be on the white one when compared to black one
Cool let us know how it goes!
@@adilshah6664 It is stain resistant I believe
Brian Evans but if you watch dave lee’s review of the XPS 13, he did show how the previous white model was not as white as the newer model (bearing in mind the previous model was bright white). Im just giving you a heads up. Its ultimately your choice
I’ve a serious question: Why are ultrabook laptops like this (MacBooks, Zenbook, etc.) more expensive than a laptop like the Zephyrus or GS65 Stealth? Beside a great screen, what do these ultrabooks offer?
I’ll list a few: build quality, aesthetics, thin and light, ultra low powered CPU’s, battery, and etc (I’ll try to add more if I remember)
Battery, display, quality, portability
@@991106kk display, quality, portability are very questionable differences. depending what your compare to the other device could actually be better
Seems to cost more to pack in so much tech into a smaller space, basically.
I always giggle a little when a reviewer can't help but test gaming performance on a device that isn't made for games :P exactly what I'd do as well even though it's pointless
jarrod isn't a usual reviewer. deal with it. i personally prefer this format.
@@recode8453 Did you miss the part about it's what I would do too?
Haha, I knew if I don't someone would ask, given I usually test gaming laptops 😅
@@amorettique nope, i know u too enjoy the current jarrod video like i did :P
Can intel uhd graphics even run any good games? How does it compare against amd or nvidia? Or is it more of a shared memory?
there's pretty much no comparison between intel graphics and nvidia/amd, until 10th gen intel cards come out, since those supposedly have decent graphics
Intel graphics are honestly pretty garbage, but you can see it run some esports titles ok here at 720p.
When are going to review the New Dell XPS 7590?
When they send one 😅

Why no undervolt and GPU overclock test? It should be possible using XTU
there is no GPU to overclock, and if you think an iGPU counts you need to pass off your nerd card.
@@bradhaines3142 intel igpus can be overclocked (my hd 530 can). Maybe in this case isn't possible, but this isn't mentioned in the review, so i asked.

I did try install XTU, however it didn't work due to an "unsupported platform" error, figuring 99% of people buying an XPS would never consider it, I moved on as I've got 10 other machines here to get through, don't have time for games like that 😅

Should be, I'd use proxies in premier though and export times will be killer with no discrete GPU
