  • Today we are replacing the camshaft position sensor in our 1999 BMW 540I E39. This has the v8 M62 motor that is also found in the E38 740I. We replaced this sensor due to our reader picking up code P1519. The process is relatively easy and quick. Make sure to buy a quality part!
    We used a Delphi sensor (part number: SS11026).

    Omg I just stumbled onto your video and you could possibly just helped me rug fixing a partial problem. BUT W my cam sensors are where they are supposed to be BUT they have been plugged into the opposite sides of the motor. The wording of cam sensors are crisscrossed. Would this cause the car to misfire and sound as if it’s blowed up. I’ve had someone that’s not wanting me to fix my car and every time I replace one thing I start the car to check to see if it’s running right,and it’s always worse then before I replaced the part.

    What were the symptoms causing replacement? I have a bmw e34 with a m60b30 engine and sometimes it loses power at low idle. Could the camshaft sensor cause this?

      I would check for vacuum leaks that could be a cause of a low idle too

    What symptoms did the car have, other than the codes? I have faulty Camshaft control codes for bank one and bank two, which I'm thinking are the VANOS, as I can also hear them ticking.

      Also check your timing chain tensioners too! Sometimes the tensioners wear out and the chain stretches. You could here a tick/slap when it on starts cold. We lucked out and had no actual symptoms other than the fault code.

      @@biggirlsgarage8331 I got the car about 6 months ago, the guy said the chains were done, with the tensioners being changed, he showed the receipts for everything as well. I do sometimes hear the "chain rattle" as I start the car up on cold start, but it's literally only then, as I turn the key. The chains were done about 50k km ago, with changed tensioners and all. Is it possible maybe the guys who worked on it didn't set the timing correctly, or didn't install the tensioners well?

      @@stoyanstefanov5460 It's possible. It's also possible that they used cheaper aftermarket parts that tend to fail prematurely. However, what are the exact codes that you are having?

      @@biggirlsgarage8331 Something along the lines of "Camshaft Position Control - Faulty" on Bank 1 and Bank 2 with code numbers 33 and 34. Car sounds fine, pulls fine, feels a bit jerky in 1st sometimes, but I still have spark plugs to change, remove an LPG system, remove the CDV etc, and I think that will fix that issue with the jerkiness.

    Hello. I replaced both of the sensors with a bmw brand and I’m still getting the same code P1519. Please help. Thanks

    • @biggirlsgarage8331
      @biggirlsgarage8331  Před rokem

      Other probable causes can be the variable valve timing control solenoid (VANOS) or check your throttle body gasket

    hey what is the sensor right underneath the one you replaced?

  • @rileylogue6643

    Is it the same for a 95 740il

    • @biggirlsgarage8331
      @biggirlsgarage8331  Před rokem

      The 95 740’s have the m60 motor this is the m62 but the location of the sensors should be the same

    • @francispowell1811
      @francispowell1811 Před rokem

      More specifically, the '95 740 uses the M60b40 engine, which, like the 96-98 M62b44 (non-Vanos), uses a single cam sensor. This is an M62tub44 (Vanos) which uses 2 cam position sensors, one on each bank od the engine.
      So, this does NOT pertain directly to your M60, nor the non-vanos M62b44.

    Good Job on the location and replacement but your audio was poor, you don't need the music in the background.
