- Demo of fire service on an elevator.
Disclaimer: Do not use elevator keys/take an elevator out of service without permission, don't use keys if you don't know what you're doing. This is a demo on an ThyssenKrupp elevator of fire service. (The key I used is the FEO-K1, or FEOK1 (It says on the key)
Thank you very much for the video. Few security companies have to do this but my company's management in my specific site are so f.... lazy. They won't teach me how. Because of YOUR HELP, ONLY YOU, I have a chance to save people in a possible armed robbery scenario. No thanks to the security management at my specific site.
You’re welcome, glad I could help you out and if you ever have any questions feel free to ask!
Epic test
Thanks!
I really want to buy a fire service key but I’m afraid it will call the fire department lol
It won't, because fire service is used by fire fighters.
Jamestube 8439 I’ve heard that some do
Yeah in some cases it is linked to the fire alarm system like when the fire alarms go off. At least that’s what I heard
It very well could. Most buildings have the elevator recall tied to the fire alarm panel in some way. If a smoke detector in the elevator lobby or machine room is activated, phase 1 elevator recall automatically initiates. In the same way, the alarm panel can monitor the elevator to where if recall is manually activated, it can trigger a supervisory or trouble condition on the panel, which is monitored. From there, the fire department, or at least building maintenance, will be called to respond to the abnormal condition on the panel.
Nice demo, James!
Thank you!
Really nice elevator too
It certainly is
I’m surprised on high rise express elevators if you do a fire service demo it would freak people out
In case if the fire alarms go off, elevators are turned off, use the stairs.
Most of that is true, however the elevators are not ever turned off unless a heat detector activates causing the shunt trip to turn off the elevator, that's why firefighters should forcible tools with them when using the elevators, if it were to shunt trip, the elevator would shut down and not work at all, they would have to break out of it. But if there is no shunt trip, then the elevators may be in fire service or have not been activated in fire service.
@@Jamestube8439 Personally, I think there should be some sort of emergency forcible tools accessible to elevator passengers so should there be high heat (no smoke) in the elevator control room and the elevator shunt trips with passengers on board, they can get out. And of course, just so no one messes with the tools if there's no emergency, it can be a federal crime
@@flightlevel3608 I agree with that, I do think in a very very dangerous situation there should be some kind of emergency release to release the door and some way to allow trapped passengers to escape
In the country where i live some elevators don't have a door close button
I will let you try and guess how you close the doors on those
Assuming it is in either car preference/priority service/whatever the elevator decides it wants to call it (the equivilent of independant service, but usually it is either labled car preference or priority service, but sometimes it may be called something else just to be confusing), or firemans service
Easy, you just press and hold the floor button in until the door's closed.
@@Jamestube8439
Correct
oh dear, it seems like it is wall of text o clock for me...
and what may be the weirdest thing about firemans service where i live, is that usually there is only 1 elevator in the building that has firemans service, and in low rise buildings there may not even be an elevator with firemans service (all modern elevators where i live do have an automatic fire recall which is linked to the fire alarm, for example the main elevators at the college i went to back in 2018/19 (whoops, nearly gave away my location) would automatically return to either the ground or first floor if the fire alarm went off (and that is if the fire alarm was set off from any detector or manually set off from anywhere), i remember when the right hand one wasnt working, and there was what i can only assume was a fire drill, the left hand elevator would have returned to one of the two designated floors, and i know from later that day that the right hand one had gone into recall mode, athough as it wasnt working it just sat there buzzing (the elevators at that college would break down what felt like every other week, one week elevator 1 would be broken, and after elevator 1 was fixed, elevator 2 would break down later in the same week that elevator 1 was fixed, and once elevator 2 was fixed elevator 1 would then break down later that week)
@@pineappleroad Interesting, and I must say that it's awesome how elevator technology has evolved over time.
Nice demo! Also, I could hear the motor JUST A LITTLE BIT for some reason. Is it a quiet motor?
Thanks, and yeah the motor is rather quiet, mostly because of the fan. It isn't anything too special, I've been on some hydros with way better motors.
So a fire department will only be called in case of a fire right?
Yeah they would be called in that case for sure, I’m sure there’s other reasons (that I don’t know) that the fire department may show up if there are other types of emergencies or inspections they have to do
@@Jamestube8439If I'm being the correct fire department will only be called if someone actually calls 911 or if the fire alarm goes off, either by someone pulling it or smoke tripping a smoke detector.
I’ve never done a fire service demo on an elevator before
Yeah that was my first time doing, if you ever want to, make sure you get permission from the owner so that way you don't get caught.
Jamestube 8439 I know I only accessed a restricted floor with a maintenance worker and had permission
@@noahharris2260 Cool, I've done floor lockouts too and I've also visited restricted floors with permission. It makes life so much better when people ask for permission before doing things like that. I see a few people who don't get permission and it's terrible because sooner or later they will probably get caught.
Jamestube 8439 I know I rode the elevator with a maintenance worker and said I couldn’t ride it up so I said that I’ll just ride the elevator up and not get off and go back down the elevator
@@noahharris2260 Makes sense, was it a staff only elevator or was it a public access one?
This is a demonstration only. Do not attempt.
That's right, and make sure if you do want to attempt that you have permission, don't do this without permission, if you get caught, it won't look good at all...
At least you had permission
There's a guy I see on CZcams called Beno, who "surfs" elevators
He did this in Glasgow a few years ago
He also uses elevator keys without permission
I always get permission before doing demos. And yes I know Beno’s channel. I’ve watched him many times
Do not use elevators keys without permission or don't know what you're doing, and you might get caught for taking an elevator out of service. You may lose your elevator key. @@seanarquillo2749 Yep, because you would be the owner of it,
Question what if you had two keys and turned on phase 1 then phase 2 but without turning off phase 2 you turn of phase 1 what would happen?
I don't know for sure, but I'll bet when phase 1 gets turned off, phase 2 also goes off. That would be my guess since I have tried turning phase 2 on while phase 1 is off. I'll have to try it someday.
@@pineappleroad Interesting, probably a controller glitch
Phase 2 remains activated for that specific elevator.
I wanna do a fire service demo sometime
Is it really a good idea to put the emergency stop button under lock and key?
The button is above the lock and key, what do you mean by that anyway?
Jamestube 8439 I mean you had to unlock and open a cabinet to get access to that button.
@@Sparkette Oh, well in that case, the button is for emergencies, there is a key switch at the bottom of the car operating panel for run/stop, I was actually there the other day to do a Run/Stop Key Switch Demo and an Inspection Demo too, I will upload it later on.
Jamestube 8439 No, my point is that if it's for emergencies, shouldn't it be usable without a key?
@@Sparkette Well firefighters need it to stop the elevator if it getting to close to the fire floor or need it to stop, but I think all elevators should have an emergency stop switch which sounds the alarm and a keyed stop switch which is to take the elevator out of service.
Question what does the access off up and down on the recall station do
When you turn the inspection key switch on in the elevator, you can use that access up and down switch to move the elevator up and down with the doors open, whether to access the shaft or access the car top, that’s typically what it’s used for
Fire service on elevators take them out of service and returns all elevators down to the main lobby
I know placing elevators in fire service will take all the banks of elevators out of service
Can you activate fire service from within a car, or do you first have to activate phase 1 from outside the car?
Ah, good question, I have tried that but no, it doesn't work from inside, you must do phase 1 first, but I mean that would be a good idea for some newer elevators, good question by the way and thanks for watching!
@@Jamestube8439 in New York when u use the fireman key it won’t come out unless u turn it off why
@@READ1NG Which phase are you referring to?
4:42 elevator buzzer
Question, are you allowed to purchase and *have* an FEO-K1 key?
Yes, owning keys are legal, using them without permission could be considered illegal. (Depending on what you're doing, for example accessing locked floors is considered trespassing) Owning keys is ok for collection purposes, I only use them with permission.
I thought if you enable fireman operation on an elevator, it's going to send a signal to emergency personell (911) and will send help?
Nope, because why would it contact emergency services if the fire department is using the elevator in fire fighters' operation. It would be pointless, however there are times where smoke alarms for elevators are hooked up to the fire alarm panels themselves. That then could be a possible situation in which the fire department would be notified.
@@Jamestube8439 Thanks! I got a bit confused when someone said that.
@@brickvator You're welcome.
In some buildings, elevator fire recall may be tied into the fire alarm panel and when activated, it may trip a supervisory condition and alert the monitoring company, which then could have the FD dispatched. That happened one time in the Prudential building in Boston, MA when EMTs were using fireman service instead of medical emergency service. I definitely think that anyone who wires that switch to trip a supervisory is doing it wrong as many states require a monthly test of fireman service to be done by authorized personnel and that particular setup would conflict with their ability to test it.
Have you been denied permission to use elevator keys?
If yes, please give an example of one time.
Yes, I wanted to ride a locked off elevator but the staff said that the elevator was for staff only.
Jamestube 8439 Do you remember where that was? And did you ask permission?
@@johnoconnor4019 Not really and yes I did ask permission since I was talking to the staff member.
So today my school elevator, a Dover Impulse, Needed Service And I Got Permission From The ThyssenKrupp Technician To Look In The Hoistway, Use Fire Service, And Look At The Machine Room. (I Used The Technicians Keys) And The Emergency Phone Needed To Be Replaced, Sadly I Could Not Get It Camera :(
That’s awesome! I’ve gotten a few opportunities in the past to look at hoistways, but the fact that the technician not only showed you that and allowed you to do fire service is really generous! That’s really cool!
How do you get those keys? i have over 200 keys and i want to add it to my collection

Yes they do, but I rode my bike and parked outside the elevator! LOL.

I really hope you had permission to do this
I did, read the description
Did you have permission to do this?
Yes I did, always have permission to use elevator keys. Thanks for watching by the way.
he is doing a demo for us
Yes that is true. It's just a demo
Kind of a long intro
Yeah no kidding, look at my newer videos. Only 3 seconds now. lol

Why do you have such a long intro? It's a bit cringe tbh.
Lol, this video a year and a half ago. Look at my newer Elevator intro, it is way shorter. Plus back then I thought a longer intro would be good, then I realized probably not a good idea, so I shortened it.
