Door close does work on some models such as Montgomery, some Dover and older Westinghouse. Others such as Schindler and newer Otis has a set door timer that the doors must stay open for a certain amount of time.

Lots of regulations,expensive stuff; avoid...; my brother's business went under,in part due to very expensive elevator breakdowns; like Bill Clinton once said if too much safety regulation makes a ladder too expensive,more accidents will happen,for people will not buy the ladder and improvise, chair on top of table, hanking on to ropes, climbing walls etc etc but the regulators don't give 2 shits, they,...well, they regulate.
