Why? Why are you making me defend Microsoft? There's just no comparison with Apple, which locks its users into a ten-point restraint of proprietary BS, restricting its users, gouging developers, and that platform-exclusive monstrosity that is Safari. What's more, they've built up a cult that actually defends Apple's "right" to keep them caged up. Step into Tim Apple's walled garden and they will see to it you lose a foot trying to get out.
By comparison, MS has made strides in recent years to make their software platform-agnostic (VS Code being a massive boon that they offer and maintain freely to any who want it, free of charge), maximize interoperability with other devices, and facilitate dual-booting and virtualization of Linux.
(And as a former Playstation fanboy, I'll bite my tongue as I point out that the XBox consoles have done a *far* more respectable job of maintaining backward compatibility.)
I hate many things MS is doing, same way I do Google, but if you think they're the worst, you better come to the table with more than "ads."

Of course, if you don't use their native Start Menu, you won't get the ads - so they'll just make you vulnerable to malware just to make you see their ads... because of course those promoted apps will never be malware itself, right? I always love the features windows adds that I immediately turn off or find workarounds for once they’re released. I shut off those stupid taskbar information things, the window snapping, web search results in the search bar, and now I’ll have to shut off more dumb start menu things. They keep forgetting they’re supposed to be making my computer’s *operating system* and not an application. App features should need to be installed by the end user, not forced as a default.

This bullshit that Microsoft’s “Web Experiences” team has been shoving down our throat finally pushed me over into Linux. I’ve been dual booting into Kubuntu for a few weeks now and am mostly loving it. Finding myself booting into Windows less and less often. I think I’m also going to ditch OneDrive, which I’ve stored *everything* in for 12 years, and see how far I can de-Windows my life.
Maybe in a few months, I’ll even start dual booting on my work laptop as well and, barring any workflow-breaking driver issues, daily drive Linux for both work and play.
It’s so stupid. Just when Windows *finally* started showing some good UX polish, they sabotage it. Well screw them. The most they’ll get from me from now on is my Xbox Live Gold, the occasional store purchase, and $4 a month for GitHub Pro.

Glad I moved to Linux at the end of 2022. Actually BECAUSE of Windows, which once again just crashed and didn't boot anymore to the point that I couldn't recover it anymore. Seriously, I tried all methods I could find and just NOTHING repaired the boot-failure, forcing me to just move on.
But I wasn't going to re-install Windows again, I tried some Linux-distros and stuck with it. I barely have any issues in terms of functionality, whether it's the same ones I used on Windows or alternatives that sometimes are even better. - Also, in about 15-16 months of being on one and the same installation (almost every day), I might have had one or two crashes, if at all. - Oh, and no, the Windows boot issue wasn't my hardware either, cause I tested it all, also installed a Linux-distro on the exact same hardware, and there are no issues. - It was Windows, it just failed out of nowhere (I didn't even do anything significant before it happened).
So yea, this is an unpaid ad. Just use Linux. Cause things need to change and it IS the answer and it IS entirely viable today. - I recommend distros like Pop!, Mint, and Zorin, for those who are afraid they will need to use commands for everything. You really don't with distros like those. - Occasionally perhaps, but in general it's like using Windows, except with the bloat, which will leave you in control of your computer and also make it snappier than you think your system can be. - Trust me bro, but actually.

Apple do charge a premium for some things but not the core hardware - the computer is priced appropriately but an additional charger or more internal storage will sting.

Multiple things pushing for me to get office 365 (which i refuse to, too expensive when open source software does good enough for my needs), and has a netflix button despite me never having used netflix on my PC, a seperate "play" button with mini tiles of a few things i never installed (not sure if they were installed by default, or don't exist on my system at all but they want me to pick them up). So hearing windows 11 might introduce it seems like "umm, don't they already do that in 10, so it shouldn't surprise anyone?"
