Thats impressive, when I first got into competing its was a fight to break 145 , and there it was out of the box . That's a value imo
Exactly man. My uncle ran 8 15s way back then. And even with windshield flex he still could only reach 145.7 dbs. Now you can do that with one Amp and 1 sub for under a 500 bux. These are truly good times for bass heads
@@nabismith8023 these telegram people 🤬 wtf
@@nabismith8023 Thats the same score I had with a AQ HDC3 18 and AQ 2200. A fuse popped in between my batteries, voltage was like 10volts and I was clipping like crazy lol. Forgot, that was on music at like low 30 hz
Yeah, it makes me wonder about the accuracy of this new stick-on or sit-on-the-passenger floor SPL meters, as compared to the high-dollar handheld units that were used for IASCA comps back in the day. It took me having 6 JL 12s on an Orion 2100HCCA to break 145 at the dash...but then again that was also going by the rules and using "Flashdance" as the song to measure SPL, which was not a bass-heavy song by any stretch of the imagination!
Right!!! They said a jet plane was 151db and a 12 ga shotgun was 125db times have changed
Skar is really impressing me with their bang for the dollar! Props where they are due 👍👍
i have a few VXF 15's and they're pretty sweet
I installed a set of SKAR SK65M’s in my boat. I’m using a rockford amp to push them. They are pretty loud, and sound great. I also have the components in my truck, and they sound great as well
Yes, Sir! I even didn't see the test by now and already know for sure it will be great. 👍😎
@@iamgriff Really? I know they are loud for the price but never thought of them as SQ systems.
I’m using a EVL 12 2ohm on a RP1200.1D I love it, very happy with it after 2 years of ownership.
Low costing 18 inchers like these would make fine DIY home theater project subs provided that you have some decent mids and highs (frontal mains) to back them up.👍
Especially with the low FS seems like a great diy candidate
Parts Express has a great variety of everything you need pretty much
Seems to be a great use. I’ll find out!
@@lmadden6236 GRS time lol
Big D, thanks for this video. You always go the extra mile to show what the speaker can handle. This just shows that even for a half way beginner I can just plug and play with a system like this for the wife. My kids love the bass. My 15 month old son was listening to bass even in the belly and now he can't get enough of it and even crys if the music is playing and the sub that I have is turned down. Keep up the good videos man. Can watch these all day.
That’s a real deal for the money.
Look at the gauge of metal used to connect the tinsil leads, ofc wire inside which allot off companies don’t.can’t beat this deal,I installed a skar audio 18 zvx18v2 1600 watt Rms in an suv and let me tell you so dang loud and clear!that woofer cost $600 but you can get them now for about $489.
God bless y’all!
Awesome video! Really cool to see it metered and with the different amps. Love to see more of these
Thanks for showing this. Cool to see that more power does not always mean more SPL. Particularly if your already reaching a subs mechanical limits at lower powa! Damn those JP amps tho FTW.
Nothing jp does is ftw. Except when he dies. That will for sure be ftw
Man one of my favorite vids don’t know why. Now I really was 2 -18’s
Feels good to know there's someone else out there that tinkers as much as I do with my subs! Haha.. My girlfriend thinks I'm nuts, but at the end of the day, its so much fun, and gives me peace.. Thanks for the videos bro, I am definitely going to show some support. $
Tell her it's a hobby, and a man is entitled to the sweat of his own brow.
Love that Owens Corning door insulation glad you support the company that I work for 👍🏾
They can send me some cheese for showing off the panther 😝
Home theater is gonna be bangin! A couple of those Dayton Audio high power plate amps will be plenty of power to shake the pictures off the walls.
Great video Big D! This video gave me some respect for the SDR Series subs. They surprised me taking those bursts the way they did.
I've had the evl 12" subs which I would highly recommend to anyone & currently have three of the ZVX subs. Just didn't really know the SDR were efficient subs, I know now, thanks!
The SDR line is not future proof and are prone to blowing..Consider this as their are no recone kits.
@@yougod7253 at the price of the SDR series I would never, ever think they were "future proof" lol... Anyone who would think that is either a tightwad or simply has a severe lack of knowledge in car audio.
I also would not ever buy any SDR sub with the intentions of treating it like an spl subwoofer. Though if needed I could readily recone a sdr sub or have it reconed, either way the job would get done & be done right. Just because you, yourself cannot find a "recone kit" does not mean others will have your same deficiency.
Thank you for your comment though.
So I bought one after watching this video. Using it with a 500 watt amp for now and super impressed. For the price it's amazing. Thanks
Ok, this video was great! Loved every second of it. Those 18's move alot and look very efficient. I think SKAR makes a very nice prefab box, also. Those JP amps are so pretty. These look even good for home audio!
Thanks for watching and commenting!
@@wal I watch and wait with baited breath for each of your videos, lol. They just feed my car audio appetite even more!
I have the 12" version of their box and it is easily the nicest prefab I have ever dealt with.
I haven't even watched this and know it's gonna be so good!!!! Thank you sir for doing these videos!!! Love SKAR stuff.
Thanks brother!
Skar is a very good brand, and good pricing. The only thing I would recommend, is staying away from the EVL subwwofer line. Other then that, everything else is good stuff.
@@Chuck_Sanders I use 2 SVRs and think they have a very good performance output for the price I paid for them.
@@jaydawg4065 I agree. I have a buddy who did those same subs in his wife's suv. The SVR sound great my friend.
I got a 148.6 on the window on 4 single 4 ohm 12 in lanzars on a ssl 4,000 d in a homemade quad box in a 2000 ford expedition I took it to some shows shocked a lot of people with a 400 buck system 😳
That’s impressive bro
Cone area+proper enclosure design/construction= SPL! Amplifier powa is the last priority
Had a buddy with a Nissan mini truck with a solid camper shell with a large box facing forward. Three twelves and two 18's. Orion hcca 1×250 and 2×225. Bridging module, all Orion. 1980s when it all started.
I really enjoy the entire video library old school and new. I have been subscribed since way back in the beginning
Much appreciated my brother!!
Pretty fun to see what some subs can do not even on full power, last time measured my system it was with a b2 18hnv1 and a b2 zero.7, and on around 1200 rms i did 147.1 db in just a self builded box on 55 hz 😂, so i can't wait to upgrade my electrical system for the full power of the zero.7 amp 🤤
Your channel is awesome. Old school for life
I’ve been out of the game for a few years, I always ran Kicker stuff but figured I’d give skar a try this time around, almost seemed too good to be true for the money. The dual 12 SDR package slams so hard and with skars big 3 kit everything was less than $500 and less then I would have spent on comparable kicker stuff. Love it!
Nice!!! I already have the jp8. I will start with one of the scar 18s with box. That's a awesome deal for now and see where that takes me. I have a 2008 dodge magnum it should sound good in there.
148 on burps is pretty cool. Of course I'm more into the music than burps. That's actually a really good deal, and hey their 18s!! When I was a kid I used to dream of having 18s.
You were watching too much MTV cribs then
@@Titans2138 I'm just not into burps. Alot of subs can achieve good burp scores if done properly, that's just not impressive to me. What you can score on music now that's more like it. Doesn't mean burping isn't cool it's just not my thing.
@@JAM-ur8tj yeah I was just kidding anyway. I have a few Skar VXF 15’s which I like but I wouldn’t mess with these cheaper subs
The Skar Spx-65c components are fantastic
They claim 200 watt peak but I just have them powered from the headunit and they are still very loud and crystal clear two thumbs up from me
I LOVED this video! Thank you D. PS I like your second channel as much as this one, everything you put out I like.
Thanks bud! I’ve got a funny one this week on the Extras channel…you’ll see 🤣
@@wal I just did, alphina in the house 🤣
I never even knew what Skar was until this channel. Last week I saw Skar stickers on two different cars. I’ve been under an audio/video rock for years lol
Popular with the younger crowd. But seems to be decent gear and does rated.
After watching your video you convince me that two of these 18s would be great for my basement theater home stereo. Oml I think I only needed one LOL but two really make for a true cinematic experience. Pink Floyd sounds really good coming through also. I have nine speaker Dolby Atmos surround two JBL Studio monitor speakers with built-in crossover paired with these two 18s for bass on a 350 ultra-farad capacitor battery being powered by a constant 13.8 volts power bank that I got from Circuit City closeout for $30. I can't tell you enough how much I enjoy watching every one of your videos such detail help me decide that spending the most isn't always the thing when it comes to Quality. I am so happy with these Subs that even if I've had them only a year I know I got my money out of them. But I'm pretty sure the last for years to come. I've also decided that I'm getting two 12s for my son to put in his trunk. For the price you pay for these speakers I'm sure supply and demand will push the market up soon so get them while they're hot. And on sale
Oh man that’s awesome!! I can’t wait to try them in my theater too!
Thank you D for the content, I've learned quite a bit from your videos 👍
Thanks for watching and commenting!
The sdr 18 preloaded kit with all the amp and wiring kit was my first subwoofer
👌😬👍
Man big D that thing is so cool! I am going to have to re-measure the hatch in my HHR to see if it'll fit 😁 hopefully they still have some stock when I have $300 set aside in a couple months
I’m willing to bet you could fit a single one in an HHR, but that’s probably all you’ll have back there 🤣🤣
I helped a friend with building the box for his single 12” L7 in a 2019 Yaris iA. After the box and amp rack he had literally just enough room right at the edge of the trunk to fit his backpack and skateboard. Had a 3.25 cubic ft box and the amp rack had to fit his pioneer 4 channel, skar sub amp, and his LC7i so after all that was put together and in the trunk that’s all the room he had left 😂
750 dollars for the whole thing? Wow? I love that amp! Got it in my 2021 F150. Stays at 14.8 volts, runs strong!
Nearly blew my center listening/watching. Dual 15's home theater. This was the deepest I ever heard my two 15's bump!
That's pretty sweet Big D! Too bad I wasted my money on, what I thought would be loud. 🤣 I think I'll go back to something a lot more efficient for the dollar next time. You live and you learn.. Great video!
My sony da4es reciver with 2 infinity sm 155 and my infinity ps 212 subwoofer shook everything off my living room table your 🎤 is super good 👌 low power 18s for the nasty lows keep up the ausome videos.
crazy how efficient speakers and amps are now days, only at 800w its kicking ass
I have been waiting for you to make this video. Friend has one 18. Always wondered what 2 could do. Very nice video
Thanks for watching and commenting!
I have two of these in the 15 inch variety in my living room connected to a Rockville RPA 12 amp and they hit nice.
When I started installing, the only woofers with push type speaker termials we carried at the time were the JBL professionals. They used the same type in this video on the original PPI carbon fiber flat piston woofers. The magnet on those things were annoying to work with, it was almost as big as cutout dimension. It was a pain in the butt to fit 8 gauge speaker wire in past that thing.
Every part of that looks better than I expected.
Thanks for watching and commenting!
I have had 2 Skar 18" EVL's for over a year now. They are going to replace 2 -15" RF P3's in a 8cuft box. I have a 10cuft box built 3/4 mdf double. All this in a 2008 Yukon Denali. I'm looking at either the Orion 4500 or a Skar 4500. I don't like the looks of the JP amps or the colors. I should have no issue hitting 150, maybe even 155. This video is exactly what I needed! Thanks Big D!
Which monoblock will you use for the 18's?
You always cover all the bases, everytime! Thank you for all you do for the community! If you get a chance I think you’d really enjoy the svr line of subs. I think they are the best bang for the buck out right now. I’m doing 148db on a single 10 inch svr on 650w rms.
Thanks for the suggestion!
The DDX line is amazing too! Check out BASSADDICT's build here on CZcams
Honestly, I don't believe you
yea you are not , maybe meter inside the box
Lmao, quit lying this isn't the high school parking lot!
Definitely the King of budget 💪🏼
👌😬👍
Damn those 18s slap! Loved it ! Keep it
Old school and keep it loud !
👌😬👍
I like the red spider and the Skar logo stamped in the basket frame.
😬👍
Just got my 15" version setup at home on my atk5 at 1ohm till I put it in my car, dropping to 11.5 till i get my proper battery charger next week so prolly lil over 1k watts when i push it, didn't break it in "properly" just threw it in and stunk it up, shes loosening up and loving a solid 600+ watts for now
Best part is even with a small low wattage motor with that much cone area it's so efficient in an SUV 2 on a 1200 or 1500w amp it would jam out! Serious thump!
Was amazed how loud these cheap subs were.
When l looked for a low priced 12" sub for my home theater l looked into skar but went with american bass.
For around the same price l got a much beefer sub.
I have their vfl on the crown amp you reviewed.
I have read these subs which are around 170 can handle 5k🤯
👌😬👍
I have a Skar SVR 12 and am wanting to switch to a pair or the American Bass VFL's.
The American bass hawks are great subs
This is awesome video and great insight I have two of these already and plan on running a old soundstream Rubicon 2500.1 rub.1 on them in a 03 yukon xl
👌😬👍
You know how them sine waves go ~~~ 😁
Love the videos
🤣👍
I love this. Go Skar!!!
👌😬👍
Heck ya, fun times, I'm running 3 18's in a wall, with as much motor force as these new subs are 18s are super responsive, swing by and check out the channel, super good budget deal, easy to get loud on a budget these days🤙
I need to get me some of those Skars 18's! They be bumpin!!💨💨💨😎👍💯💥
I push 1100rms constant thru mine. Once in a while i smack the magnet, and never had a issue so far. These and american bass are my favorite. Map series was built just like skars econ line.
😬👍
I like alot of people already have a jp8 which I bought because of your video. So I am going to buy this so I can put the 12s I currently have in my wife's car. You know I can remember many years ago when my uncle had 800 watts and 8 15s in his car and he barely hit 144 dbs. Now you can do it with 1 Amp and 1 woofer. Absolutely crazy how times have changed.
It is crazy
I have a 2004 sequoia, nice to see you use a limited addition sequoia too!
Thanks for this video. I want to put two of these in the bed of my hilux with the 3 JL 12s. Use the shell window as a blow thru
Very impressed. Good looking subs. For the box i would brace the port from the middle because there was flex going over there
5/8” for an 18” is silly but the box with sub is moveable without breaking backs
@Dereck, it might be interesting to see how a Skar SDR-15 or 12 in a similar box would compare in output, Fs, efficiency, power handling, etc.
Not many people are willing to give up the entire hatch in their SUV. Smaller sub/box combo with similar output would be more attractive to most bass hobbyists.
Top video as per usual Big D God bless ya 🙏😇👏👏👏👏👍
Thanks for watching and commenting!
Two things. Actual three.
First, your videos are awesome! A lot of fun to watch!
1.) That sub would be awesome for IB. That poor thing is being starved for air in that little box. Still a great bargain, though!
2.) Fb is what you're testing the enclosure for. Fv is the volume of the enclosure (size). Fb is tuning of the enclosure. You mentioned Fs. That is the speaker's free-air resonance when it's naked.
Regardless, great job as usual. Your work is always appreciated! Love your videos!
😎👍
Number 2 was a slip, noticed after I uploaded. Too bad I can’t fix so I’ll forever be known as stating that incorrectly. This is why I’m known as the Big Dummy!
@@wal LoL
Nah. You're just big. 👍
Derrick, please test these in a home theatre setup. I'm interested in getting one for my home surround sound.
In the plans but it will be somewhat complex and you’ll see when you see 😝
@@wal great news. I currently run a single Dayton Ultimax UM18-22 off a Crown XLS-1502 and it’s amazing, but the theater room has some dead spots.

@@wal I still have the leiges audio in the box I'm having problems with the head unit install so I haven't installed anything.
Soon as I square away the radio issues I'll need to order a box and speaker but I'll report back with how the amp does.
I bought the amp through your link on Amazon the day I watched the the first video of the leiges amp, just been to busy to even try it on a sub.
Another thing holding me back is the connector in my car (2000 Buick LeSabre) is the only year with a pcb board card edge connector that the radio harness plugs into.
I waited over a month for that to get here after searching a few days to find one that may work but it actually came from an international truck parts supply house.
So this build is taking more time than I wanted.
Just watched the single 18 video for like the 4th time, just found this one👍💯
Would be interesting to see if SPL is louder with boxes rotated, so that ports are nearest to the floor.
tried and true method in an suv is subs up port back.
Yeah I know in my hatchback cars, a couple of mustang GT's and VW GTI etc, a towel under the sub boxes to put the subs exactly parallel to the glass or the whatever covered metal body always increased the loudness by an easily noticeable gain.
These 18's are pretty impressive, ESP for a budget setup!! 👍
@@BabyCharlotteschannel what do you mean by this i have a 15 in my prius and with hatch size i am limited
Awesome videos man I'm from New Zealand
man i can remember trying to hit 145. it took me getting 6 12” gold comp kickers and 2 lanzar opti drive “cheat” amps and a lot of building my own boxes to finally get over that hump. nowadays you can just throw a prefabricated box in the back and ur good to go lol.
So true!
The average Joe has no idea just how loud 140db really is! I'm ashamed to say how much money I spent just to break 157db back in the day but man what I would give to relive those days over again! Awesome vid man🔥🔥🔥

true, i heard 147db competition vehicle irl, i don't go to shows or anything, but 147db was insane, and he was actually playing it for his friend across the parking lot at 300ft away, until i walked over and asked him about his setup, but from 300ft away i couldn't even tell where it was coming from, cuz i was walking out of a store in a strip mall, and it was shaking the huge glass windows those malls have haha, that's with all the trees and other parked cars between his car and the mall.
Great vid I loved it for the price they nice

If you only have 500 watts rms or less to play with then it can be awesome. Just don't try rated power for long periods or think that it will out do your current setup if you already have one.
I just threw one of these in my Wife’s Excursion. I’ll make sure to make some demo videos of it ✊🏻
Awesome 👏
There it is. And I've been served!

2 of those with a Skar 1200 amp. Budget Banger
Skar Audio needs to offer these 18" cabs in NON carpeted...ie - use their smooth bedliner type stuff. Carpeted sub boxes can get stinky, holds dirt-particles-hair-etc, not that great in the moist/wet conditions, and cats use them as scratching posts. Digging your video tho...twin 18" subs making boom-boom will get attention quick! I am actually shopping for two 18" cabs (passive) for my living room system too.
Rhyno lined would be cool! I agree these dudes get real dirty quick!
I have two of the 15's in my living room. I just threw blankets over them and my cat left them alone.

Two are better than one.... so much bass make fun🤯🤪🔊🔊👍
Thumb up, of course👍
Thanks brother 👌
@@wal good work must be rewarded 👍
I started doing mobile audio in the mid 1990s 145db was a pretty big deal. I remember a local competition where a Ford Probe with four 15s won with a 145. If we could have bought a loaded 18 box for $300 that would have been crazy, even for 1996 money.
Really fun video man. These joints get down on the budget tip

Damn...that's nuts. I have 2 EVL-18 D4 subs on a RP 2000.1 amp and I barely break 146 with the drivers window open in a f150 crewcab. I built a custom 8 cube box that fits under the back seat which I raised up 6 inches. Charging system is still stock so that doesn't help any - lol. I plan on doing a wall with 4 subs and 10k someday. Gotta build up funds and improve the power system first.
Awesome 👏
I have the same amp. You need all 1/0 gauge ofc wire including big 3 upgrade minimum in order for it to shine, but it will.
I know one thing, people hitting 140 dbs on budget equipment that actually sounds good is insane. Back in my day you were spending 5k to get 130 and that wasn't continuous! 😂 I had 2 audiobahn alum12's and a punch 1k and wasn't hitting anywhere near that. With subs, deck, box, and amp I was around 2300 bux. That's not including the wiring and cap! I thought I was the shit cause I had 2 gauge wire ran for my stuff! 😂 Gotta love the early 2000s
I have the JP8 on a Skar DDX-10 D2 in a Skar box and it hammers in my GTI. Louder than any 2 12" setup I had back in my Soundstream Reference days. I've been floating the idea of a "special occasion" Skar 18" I can hot swap, lol.
BTW, do you remember probably 1993 or so....PE had a prebuilt 4th order bandpass box that was carpeted? I have had zero luck finding info on these boxes. I wanted the 15" model so bad when I was young and never got one.
Ooooo you should start another channel Where are you dyno speakers!!! I’m sure your subscribers would love that!
What do you mean? See how much power speaker can handle?
Cool video! I was expecting the sensitivity to be much higher. Similar size magnet to a 90’s Cerwin Vega or Lanzar sub… but those had sensitivity up around 94-95 db.
These get really loud with 200W so the in box sensitivity is high
magnet size has little to do with efficiency. or power handling..
I shake my house with one on a cobalt260.
These seem like they’d be good for a hood in home build
Hell yeah!

" Damn That Shit Bumpin " 😂😂😂😂😂 Took Me Out
I'm super tempted to buy one of these and transfer the 300wt amp from my PSW 505 along with the Dayton Audio DSP-LF into it.
👌😬👍
You should get a 4th Order made for them and test it. I think that would be crazy loud!
Nice video my friend
Hell ya man. I'm not a big fan of their amps but the subs are pretty nice for the price
👌😬👍
