    Really enjoyed this video. I’m glad the merits of the reduced would looked at without the bias of the “heritage” of the moonwatch getting in the way. Very rare to see. My Speedmaster is always running out of power as I either forget to wind it or I’m simply not there to do so. Whereas my other manually wound watch has 10 days, giving plenty of time to top it up. And its not particularly satisfying to wind. Still love it though, mainly due to that perfectly designed dial that stands up as one of the greatest designs of the 20th century of any object.

      Ben Hodges fully agree Ben, the fact that our speedy pro is as far removed from the original speedy that went to the moon as my Lego Apollo 11 is from the real thing kind of takes the whole heritage out of the equation when you’re looking at a very similar looking Speedmaster 👍

    Thank you for another fantastic review/comparison. I too had heard that the reduced was tall and discounted it. I do not like that the reduced has 18mm lugs (most of my straps are 20mm) but I can buy a lot of straps for 2K...I am going to have to go back and rethink my decision to buy a Pro.

    I own both reduced and pro. My opinion... the pro’s and con’s balance themselves. The only correct answer if you’re on the fence between buying one or the other. Buy both used. The reduced looks and feels like a vintage size watch. I prefer the bracelet on the reduced. It looks and feels like a Rolex Day Date AND on a smaller wrist it makes the reduced look like a bigger watch. On the reduced you have a 18mm lug width. Which is difficult to find a quality leather strap for it. You can also have the chronograph seconds hand running all the time. Since it’s an automatic, it will not run out of power and the movement can handle the chrono function working continuously. You can find a reduced from $1400 to $2100.... $2500 to $3200 for the sapphire crystal WITH the cock and balls on the dial. There are many variations of the reduced many Japanese editions and a few European editions. IMO the best is a Japanese market panda dial.
    On the Speedy pro. It fits perfect on a strap (ANY strap looks good on the Speedy). On a bracelet the Speedy might wear large on a smaller wrist. On a strap the Speedy wears smaller. The sapphire sandwich version looks larger because of the crystals white ring around the dial. The dial looks bigger than the plastic crystal version. The Speedy pro is only $3000- $4000 (depending where you buy and condition) used or new grey market (no Omega warranty). It’s NOT worth buying new at an Omega store. For a new Speedy they are asking $5200 - $5700. Speedmasters lose value but remain steady at $3000 minimum on the used market. The bracelet on a Speedy is subjective to looks. Personally I don’t like it. It’s too beefy and it lacks micro adjustments. As a Rolex owner it’s difficult to beat an Oyster bracelet... sorry. If Omega would taper the bracelet from 20mm at the lugs down to 16mm at the clasp with a micro adjustment clasp (Seamaster). Then yes it would be perfect. On a Speedy pro, the chrono function limits the power reserve down to 30 hours if you keep that function running. It also wears out the movement a lot faster. I only use the chrono to time cooking in the kitchen and at work (yes it’s a very useful tool for me).
    If you want a vintage Speedy pre-1995. The sky is the limit. If you find a Speedy pro with a patina tritium dial expect to pay no less than $3700 on the used market. Keep in mind Omega tritium lume sucks. Most tritium lume on Omega does not age well. Most dials look dirty so finding a nice yellow cream color even patina on the dial & hands is difficult to find at a lower price.

    Now that the big 50th anniversary thing is behind us, let’s face it, no one really needs a Speedmaster (though I love my 357050 pro quite a bit). But if you want one, go for the real deal. The reduced, with its slightly offset subdials, is like a four cylinder Ford Mustang. There is no substitute for cubic inches, as they say over there.
    That said, if you don’t care about this Moon thing and just fancy a more compact chronograph, from a great Swiss brand, with a range of dial color options for sensible money, the Speedy reduced is a great choice.

      @clockbait  Před 5 lety +1

Then I watched the recent Horology House video and want that one described as ‘the Pro’ on there I think its the one with manual wind and sapphire (end of ref is 006), 42mm and it had a display case back as well. The reduced is not for me, just too small although I love thinner watches. Still don’t think I will ever get one as I prefer the Aqua Terra and the new Seamaster but you never know 🤷‍♂️😁

    The speedy that sits tall is the racing...15mm tall for a for a 40mm diameter watch with lug to lug of 46mm. The reduce had classic proportions much like a bb58 and zenith 1969.

  • @GuyMrIncognito
    @GuyMrIncognito Před 5 lety +1

    Initially i wanted to buy the reduced. Mainly because of the size but also because the lower price.
    The I realised the there are not too many on the used marked in Switzerland, an they are often around 2000 CHF, depending on the condition.
    On the other hand you can get a moonwatch under 4000.- on the grey market. An those are new and including guarantee and the enormous box. In addition i prefer the dial of the pro. The dial of the reduced feels too busy for me.
    Considering all that i picked up speedy pro for 3700.- and I perfectly happy with it.

    Having had both I can tell you that the moonwatch is completely the way to go, getting the reduced is like the itch that hasn't been scratched (and never can be). Maybe something to do with watch sizes becoming smaller and the watch itself a lot rarer makes this little bad boy hold itself strong. And lets not forget the 3635 sapphire crystal, 100m water proof and can run the chrono as a second hand all day without ruining the movement makes it a winner.

      I have a Reduced with a silver dial and bezel. My wrist is quite small so I'm delighted with the reduced case size, plus the dial and bezel colour, as they allow me to use the watch every day, even in semi-formal office environments. I wasn't interested in the 'heritage' aspects of the Professional ("Moonwatch"), simply in the reputation of the Omega brand. (I acknowledge the completely different movements, obviously, but trust Omega to have used a reliable [adapted[] auto movement in the Reduced model).

      Both are real Speedies by Omega tho. None of them is close to the real Moonwatch since both movements differ from the original and you can even get the Professional with sapphire crystal which is even further away from the original. The chronograph hand misses all sub-second markers on all of these speedmasters, cannot be stoppoed on any of these markers, for almost 60 years, and no one talks about it. DESIGN FRAUD for profit.
