    Great video. You mentioned all important facts. For me the Reduced version works quit well because of the wrist/case size. What I always see on Speedy reviews in general is that the moon story is such a great marketing story with all its benefits and technical background, including why this watch was chosen for the NASA mission in the first place, that people forget about the real purpose of a chronograph coming from the racing cars and sports in general. I think if we cut down the deal on the moon watch than it is basically the caliber that differentiates both watches. Another truth lies behind names and biases. I mean how can a company name one watch professional and the other one reduced as an official name. Rather just call it automatic because thats what this watch is. I think this was Omegas biggest marketing mistake with the Reduced. You get the intention that it always ranked behind the professionals like it is the amateur version. But at the end both watches are Omega & Speedmaster.

      Thank you for the nice words! :)
      You have a great point although the movement on the professional is definitely better but obviously an automatic is much more practical

    How appropriate as I was wondering what the differences were between the two just the other day. Thanks for posting this video. Amazing work as always 👊

    I'm strongly considering the reduced for the following reasons: It's less nearly impossible to be faked, the vertical clutch allows continuous chrono use without wear, automatic is nice to have, it costs 1/4 to half as much, my 17cm wrist will likely fit both, cheaper in the know alternatives align with my personality, if I don't like it I could easily sell it and buy a moonwatch. Tthere are many used moonwatches out there but few 3510.50s. Bonus is the connection to Schumacher and Shinzo Abe simply as talking points. The newer 40mm Racing ones are cool too for the price and mechanically superior but they don't have the same vintage hidden gem flavor to me. Reality is I just can't see myself spending 4x as much for a new moonwatch and not getting a vertical clutch. I like to watch that seconds hand turn. If I'm going to compromise the functionality, I might as well get something used for $2k than new for $8k.

      Sounds good! I got mine because it’s cheaper, smaller, automatic, bracelet and “rarity”. Are you sure the Dubois Depraz 2020 module has a vertical clutch? When i did my videos on the watch i did some research but couldn’t find anything on the clutch

    The moonwatch is too large for my 17cm wrist. I ended up buying a reduced and I am so happy with my watch.

    Still a fan after several years?
    Any issues with the hesalite?

    • @TheWatchScientists
      @TheWatchScientists  Před 11 měsíci

      Same as in the other comment. I really like the hesalite look. I scratched it once and had it polished for 20 bucks so no big deal. Both materials have their upside. Saphire doesn’t scratch but it can shatter, hesalite scratches more easily (but is also easily polished even at home) but would not shatter

    Great content. I have a friend of mine selling me a reduced for $1,750 good condition unpolished, og bracelet with no box and papers. It’s running well. Is that a good price?

    • @TheWatchScientists
      @TheWatchScientists  Před 2 lety

      Thank you! Seems like a very good price to be honest almost too good, but if it’s a friend maybe thats the reason.
      When it comes to the box and papers, don’t worry about the box that is not directly connected to the specific watch (so you could buy an opd example if you wish) for the papers it depends what you prefer. Of course it is nice to have especially for when reselling so you need to decide if that’s important to you.
      1700$ is a great price, even if you had to do a service (300-400€ at a watchmaker | @Omega 750€) you are still within market prices

  • @stavroskyriakopoulos8699

    Are you sure the prices are still so low?? Because now I see that the reduced costs about 4.500€ in Greece and the Pro around 6.500-7.000€… Double the price in just a year??

    • @TheWatchScientists
      @TheWatchScientists  Před 2 lety +1

      this video is a bit old now, the reduced indeed in enroaching in price depending on the reference and the state of the watch. The professional you can see in this video is the calibre 1861, that is now out of production. Early 2021, the new Moonwatch came out (calibre 3861) which is the pro you’re talking about. That is also indeed correct, the price increased because the new movement is much superior to the older 1861.
      If you want to know more about the new Moonwatch then feel free to check out my 4 month experience video with it 😉

    What kind of budget do you need to service the reduced? Is that couple of hundred euros every couple of years? Could anyone give me an indication on the amount of money I should be thinking of?

    • @TheWatchScientists
      @TheWatchScientists  Před 3 lety +1

      Here it really depends on what you want and what kind of budget you have. A service at Omega will cost around 600-700€ but you will get a like new watch with 2 years warranty. But you could easily go to a watchmaker of your trust and have it serviced there (should be much less expensive 200-300€ i guess).
      Regarding the servicing frequency, this also depends heavily on the watch and the wearer. If you want to be very safe the regular interval is around 5 years. But you can do it like me and go in for a service when the performance is off (power reserve is too low, accuracy is off,...)
      I hope this helps 😉
