a couple of clarifications: 1) the Reduced went onto to 2009, not 2003 (in 2006 the 2nd iteration [the 3539] that "deleted" the minute numerals, also added a sapphire glass and 100WR) 2) it is not especially difficult to service for a good watchmaker. you can use it as a "litmus test" to gauge the quality of a watchmaker, as if (s)he can't service it, (s)he's not a good watchmaker [though you can argue that because you need to spend more time to find a watchmaker, it's actually more expensive to service]. 3) it's not expensive to service. firstly, Omega charges the EXACT SAME to service the Reduced as they charge for the Professional. indie watchmakers who do service it, charge about the exact same as a 7750 service or less (as regular service requires only the servicing of the base 2982 movement and the chrono module does not need to be touched) what actually ARE major problems, is that it WILL be more expensive to service if something goes wrong with the chrono module (though wait times for parts is a bigger problem than actual cost. wtf is DD thinking is beyond me). iirc, last time i researched this, the whole replacement chrono module is about 400$ the advantages of the Reduced vs the Pro can be summed up as such: more comfortable (because of the size, thinness, bracelet, much more comfy and flatter caseback) and more practical (auto), though maybe slightly less durable and a bit more of a hassle to service (IF you service at indies) as far as heritage and story goes: the Reduced is as much of a "moonwatch" as the (1)861 Professionals. neither ever went to the Moon. only the cal. 321s did. and as to the "well, the Professional at least went to space" i answer "well, it's just one of many watches that went to space. the Fortis Cosmo spent much much more time in space than any Speedy. and for the past 20-30 years it's become irrelevant as a "spacewatch"". and if you ask "but it's the only one certified by NASA" or whatever, then i ask you "then why don't you go for the X33 which was DESIGNED by Omega WITH NASA?". 90% of the "moonwatch" story is nothing but marketing bs that said, i do currently have a Reduced, though i am in the process of selling it as after trying the Pro i thought the size actually fits my wrist a bit better (though ideally i'd want one that's exactly at the midpoint between the 2), and i really really want a good manual chrono with a good looking movement (and the 1863 it by far the best looking manual chrono movement under 5k euro) tl;dr: should you buy the reduced? IF you really really want a Speedy Pro but it's too big for your wrist: then ABSOLUTELY YES. it's a great watch with lots of wrong myths about it, that looks about 90% the same as a Pro (imo the proportions are better on the Reduced, though the more widely spaced subdials are mildly irritating). it's also a really good alternative if you just want an automatic Pro-looking Omega. but IF you just like the speedy look in general, and not the Pro look specifically, you're much better off with either the new 38s coaxial autos (which come in a variety of colours, and the black one looks "nicer" and dressier) or the Racing series of newer coaxials (avoid the first 2 Piguet-based coax, as they're garbage reliability-wise)

This. The problematic service is a myth. Official dealer will charge exactly the same as for any other Omega. And yes there was the Speedmaster Reduced II with sapphire glass, changed buckle and removed minute markers. The IIs are much more rare than the I.
I had mine serviced locally a little over a year ago. I was charged their standard chronograph servicing rate. Even with Omega the service cost is the same as the professional. In my experience servicing the reduced has not been an issue.
So cool to find this video. This was my first “real” watch buy and I still love it. I’ve always dreamed of owning a professional but having tried them on they just sit to big on my wrist. I’ve had it serviced once in the many years of owning it and it runs like a champ. Still an Omega and still a classy understated great watch.

I have a Reduced from 98’ and I love it. Just got it back from service - very expensive... I didn’t know that Omega simply switch the movement with a new one. But I don’t consider that a bad thing. You get a practically new watch for the cost of the service. Makes it easier to swallow...

Love mine. Sometimes I don't know if it's on my wrist or not because of its comfortability. I'd have to look to see if it's there. Mine is a Schumacher limited with the black racing style dial.
The movement repair is what I always worried about. For them to just throw it away and replace it isn’t worth the $750 Omega standard service. It’s less involved than dismantling the movement, inspecting parts and then reassembling it. Despite that, it’s a neat watch.
Great video guys, interesting topic! I have a reduced from 1992 and love the size and automatic movement. Great watch but if you really want the Professional you would be better off waiting for one.
Thanks Sam, good discussion. I like some of the dial variants and you can pick them up in excellent condition for much less than $2K. As your guest stated, the Japan sites are excellent to go to because of the large number of these sold in Japan and their condition can be top notch. But the Dubois module servicing does scare me off. With the Valjoux it could be a contender, but I like the racing dials so its a catch 22.

Hi Sebastian, I can't remember if I showed my own Speedmaster in this one but I own the professional and love it. My speedy is in for a service at the moment, will be doing a full review of the Omega servicing process when I get it back. I think the case size is complemented by it being thinner than the reduces and they did a great job with the lug design.
The Casual Watch Reviewer as a small wristed bloke id disappointed the reduced is no longer in production. Judging from the wrist images in your video the professional doesnt look too out of place but reckon the 39 mm would fit you better. I consider the professional too big for my small wrist.

I bought a Reduced. In 2 seconds I knew I didn't want to keep it. It's garbage. Sorry to hurt people's feelings. I returned it. I bought the Professional. Light years difference. Just buy the Professional. Don't even consider the Reduced. I would say there is one exception. If you are a tiny petite individual then the Reduced makes sense. Otherwise, it's just not half the watch the Professional is.

It's not a 🐼 Miguel. A Panda is a white dial with black sub dials. A reverse Panda is black dial with white sub dials. Silver sub dials don't count. Nice watch though.

For those of us with small wrists (I have a 6" wrist), the Reduced is the best option. I wouldn't get a Professional even if I could.

Ha! Yes and I have been tempted a few times. But I’m going to hold out for a good Speedy MkII.
Yep I always wanted a MKII but i cant pull off that size it was a lot bigger than I was expecting when I tried one on! Just personal choice of course!

I picked up a Mk40 triple date which is great for a smaller wrist and easy to look after being built on a 7750 base
