The Best Affordable Omega Speedmaster Watch? - 3510.50 Reduced Review

- In today’s review I reacquaint myself with a dear old friend. Before I owned the manual wind 39mm "First Omega In Space” (FOIS), and after a brief time with the famous 42mm "Moonwatch" professional, I owned many versions of the smaller 38mm automatic, known rather disparagingly and unfairly as the "Reduced." Thus began a long and tempestuous love affair with this affordable version that invariably caused me to sell it and re-buy it more times than I care to remember. Why did this happen and how does it feel back on the wrist all these years later?
The watch market has changed dramatically, and this once affordable alternative has now skyrocketed in both demand and price. Is it still a good deal? How has it fared over the years, and is it still the best affordable Omega Speedmaster?
In this video I borrow reference 3510.50 from the Watchbox inventory and take it out for a lifestyle review at some of Philadelphia’s popular sights to figure out its positives and negatives. Since I started my channel, not a month goes past that I don't miss owning this ideally sized Speedy for the more modest wrist, so join me to find out what I think about it now!

Bought mine in 1967, 321 movement and still have it! $94.00
is it still looking good?😃
I saw "mine" the first time at the age of 21 and since then, I love it. 25 years later, maybe I will buy it... maybe :)
Really? So you got the one that NASA astronauts took to the dark side of the moon in 1968 in Apollo 10. The same watch and movement adorned the wrist of Apollo 11 crew when they went to the moon in 1969. Omega re-released the original 321 calibre in 2019 for the moon landing 50th anniversary, at a huge price increase over the regular speedmaster moon watch. That’s quite a special original watch you have there!
@@Pulsonarhe's lying unless he's not talking about the Reduced Speedmaster
You’re lying, the Speedmaster Reduced was introduced in 1988 and uses the caliber 3220 movement.
TGV, your content is of the highest quality every time. The production is through the roof. Keep doing you, my man!
Just got my reduced today after 3 years of looking for the watch for me and you nailed it with this review. Thank you for all of you content we appreciate it.
I saw a speedmaster for the first time (outside of a boutique) on the wrist of a patient of mine and I was amazed how classy and relatively unpretentious the watch appeared in the flesh. My ultimate grail watch for sure.
@Will Harris Thank you. I´ve not yet decided which model to go for. Besides the lack of knowledge I won´t be spending 3 to 5 k€ on a watch in the next 2 or 3 years, so much time to spend with research and impressions.
Hi doc, it is part of watches which look different in flash than on photos! Other Doc
Interesting. Just took a very close look at a new Speedmaster Moonwatch at my local AD. I compared both the hesalite and the sapphire sandwhich. What I noticed immediately is that the white dial markers on the sapphire version are perceptibly duller than the hesalite version; I can only assume that the sapphire glass blocks more light. The hesalite definitely has better legibility and character (if you don’t mind the missing display back and the propensity for more scratches).
That said, as much as I love the history and overall general appearance of the Speedmaster, I was left unimpressed by the steel bracelet. It felt really light and the finishing was a bit dull and rough; kinda cheap overall. All I could think at the time was how extremely well made some of these smaller/homage/microbrands like Steinhart really are, particuarly for the money.
The AD wouldn’t offer more than a 15% discount on a new Speedy…so I walked. There’s no way it’s worth $5900CDN (even with the tax included). Acrylic crystal, manual wind, ancient movement, less than stellar finishing. One of those watches that looks better in photos than it feels in person-in my humble opinion it’s a $3K watch, no more.
If you're a doctor, just buy it already. It's a cheap watch for you then.
@@klausm5460 2 year update? Did you end up getting it?
Can never have too much Speedmaster in my diet! Thanks TGV! Great to see you!
It is amazing to see how the quality of your videos has evolved. This is one of the best watch reviews I've ever seen, it's complete, well written, quality footage... just all perfect. I'm a quite early subscriber to your channel and so happy to see where this channel took you and where you're taking it. My passion for horology has grown thanks to you... among others on CZcams. "Un grand merci" from Geneva!
Thank you so much for saying that Romain, that means a great deal to me, you are an absolute gent for saying so.
It is precisely this kind of positivity that will take you very far to a happy and fulfilling life, if it hasn't already.
You in turn, inspire me, O&U!
Best regards,
TGV
AMAZING review as always. Educational, entertaining, and wonderfully theatric. Thanks TGV. You are, and always will be, the best at what you do.
Totally agree with Shaio Derek, was about to nod off then that sweet notification from my favorite CZcamsr pops up 😃
I absolutely love my speedy reduced. Great review TGV, thanks for featuring it, I’m actually wearing it as I’m watching this.
I was looking at Speedmasters all day today and then you post this. Thanks. I’m a Philly guy who works right around the corner from where you were having your drink! Hopefully I see you around.
I wanted to tell you that your videos are the reason I got into watch collecting. You are the main influence on me for sure. I have a Seiko Alpinist, a Stowa Flieger and a Squale 1521 and 1545. My Squales get the most wrist time these days. I'm a nurse and I'm very active at work, walking long distances in my facility while supervising at night. Automatic watches are great for me.
Lovely watch! Thank you for all the high quality content that you have provided for us over the years!
I just got into watches a few months ago and your videos were a big part of that. Love the shots around philly in this video, both cause I love philly and it gives the viewer a better sense of how the watch wears. Also enjoyed how you explore a little bit of the watches' lineage, design, feel, hot takes from others, as well as pros and cons - good stuff! Excited to see how you continue to evolve and develop your craft. Welcome to philly!
Thank you Micheal, that makes me so happy to hear that!
Enjoy the journey.
Best regards,
TGV
Excellent review! I spent months looking at this watch and the Reduced II but ultimately decided on the Speedmaster Racing Co-Axial. The blue dial version is absolutely stunning in person and given the small price difference, it was a no-brainer. Would love to see you review one, TGV!
I like the change of setting from studio to somewhere outside. Keep up the good work! :)
Great intro TGV, very refreshing and brightening!
Love the way you edit the vid and your passion for watches.
I was attracted to the smaller case. But over the last few months, the whole watch has grown on me.
Just pulled the trigger on a clean reduced from '98 with full kit. I could not avoid temptation.
fyhfb ass my man
Hello Tristano !
Waouhhhh ... How to say it ... this video is reallly a BIG quality one !
Your skills and your talent, and probably the technical support of Watchbox now ... I think even not watch lovers could appreciate this work ... really a lot of congrats from Paris !
Excellent review, TGV! I have been on the hunt for a Speedmaster and I've been keenly interested in the Reduced. Lots of "food for thought". Thanks
I bought one about a year ago and it is an amazing watch. And great value too, I got mine for half the price a professional would have cost at the time
Learned of these when I discovered your channel around 2015. Yearned for it then, and searching one now! Took a long break from the hobby. Checking back now and can see the growth/editing talent has only increased! Love the shots of philly, hope to catch you around
With the all new missions on the horizon I can see these really appreciating, since the reduced were made in a
Smaller quantity, ==rarer. My professional was far too big. This fits like glove. Great vids and keep up the great work. And Thankyou.
.. and oh goodness with the nice cinematography !!
Well done !
This is the best ever video of speedmaster reduced I have ever seen. Have been wanting to buy one for 8 years and finally got one. When I got it, it felt smaller than in videos on my wrist of 6.3 inch. But it has grown on me since. For clearing all my doubts regarding the size and fitting, I went to the closest Omega Boutique to try different variations of speedy (i.e. the moonwatch, FOIS, new co-axial 38mm, 1861 with see through) but they felt bulky and heavy on my wrist and for me. So, ultimately, instead of sending my 3510.50 speedy on a bracelet back to the watch dealer for a refund, I decided to keep it as I realize I am getting used to the look of it. Maybe in far future if I gain weight and my wrist gets thicker (which I doubt), I will go for a pro. But for now I am enjoying my speedy reduced. P.S. a guy in Omega Boutique told me secretly that calibre 1861 will be discontinued in 2-3 years and will be exchanged to a newer more robust movement. So, the collectors, please rush to get your new speedy pro with calibre 1861.
I'm slowly getting the Speedmaster........
Excellent video! Very timely! I was looking at a pristine 3510.50 online for $1700! Then I did some research and stumbled upon this fresh video! Keep up the good work, sir! Subbed!
So nice video. I loved this watch and I was going to buy it in 2005 in exchange for a 70s Rolex Air King. Nothing was done and I still think it was a so beautiful watch, especially for my small wrist. A perfect match. You brought me back in time
Really enjoyed the video, the production is top notch! Can’t wait for more.
I absolutely love the speedy reduced. If I had to buy one though, I would get one with a date.
Just found out TODAY about the Reduced one which is EXACTLY what I would have hoped for... Smaller version! Loving it
Love the Video, I got my 3510.50 on a trade for the equivalent of $780 With Box and all documentation from
the original owner 1yr ago.
You are the one responsible for the prices of these Reduceds going up! Haha great video as always. Please review the new DJ 36 Ref: 126234! Would be greatly appreciated.
The side profile of the lugs always makes me think of the design of a gondola. Simply beautiful.
Great video I just was looking at buying a used Reduced Speedmaster today! Im glad I found this video
One of your best videos, TGV. Great job 🥃
The writing for your voice-over segments has gotten much, MUCH, better. Keep up the good work, sir!
Thank you for noticing, you are a true gent. Despite the frustrating dyslexia and extra time taken, I am glad you appreciated it, it means so much. I am not gonna lie, I find writing very challenging.

TGV is back. Loved this video - no overiding music or panoramas; informative and knowledgeable with experience, passion and open frankness. I teach English as a second language and will direct some of my students to this video and that is a first. Great format, content and passion.
Thank you so much Dane, that means the world to me, I hope your students will enjoy it.
O&U!
Best regards,
TGV
I always felt that the reduced dial feels a bit clustered even tho they moved the sub-dials out to the side.
The professional is much tidier in my view and I like the 42mm feel on my wrist.
Great vid.Good work fella.
I purchased one of these second hand at the beginning of January, Iv never bought a second hand watch before but had no choice. My Seamaster, Santos, black bay, Longines and tag Heuer haven’t seen the light of day since. It wears so well and the size is perfect!
Absolutely fantastic review once again. Great video!
Thank you so much :D
Very kind of you to say,
Best regards,
TGV
Brilliant and thorough review, keep it up,well done.
I'm loving my reduced ii. I wouldn't swap or trade it for anything. Its such an understated watch yet feels absolutely amazing on the wrist.
Hi! I am looking to buy this watch, the later model with the sapphire, but the 30m water resistance troubles me. People say that it may get damaged in the rain. I personally never remove my watch when casually swimming on the beach, do you think I wont be able to swim with that watch?
T, Nice work as always. You are looking so well and happy. Great to see. Best as always. Matthew
Thank you Number 1 :D
Best regards,
TGV
Very good show and informative! I was considering a Speedy since I sold my Seamaster. I think I'll carry on saving for the AirKing 🥂
thanks totally enjoyed that, still loving the reduced old and new! happy days....
These outdoors photoshoot style videos are amazing my man.
I like this toned-down, high-production TGV! It's a little less silly, and I do miss that, but it's thoughtful too. Great video!
Great video. I respect a man who stands by his watch.
I bought a Speedmaster Reduced back in 2001 I think for like 8000 French Francs (i.e. perhaps 1200 EUR) at the time. I've been wearing it pretty much daily since. It really is a fantastic timepiece - discrete yet classy!
I’m so close to getting a speedmaster, it’s just timeless. And very very handsome.
I love watching the prices of them go up after your video on ebay
Gentry I love my reduced! I brought a reduced and a tudor submariner because of your reviews. Thanks brother!
Fantastic to hear, cracking choices, enjoy!
Thank you Eric,
Best regards,
TGV
Long time gentry but where has all the energy gone! Your passion is what brought us here TGV. Let it show!
Thank you, this took a great deal of energy indeed, the work was immense but glad you enjoyed it.
Best regards,
TGV
Wonderful video and editing quality!
I absolutely love that reduced bracelet, just imagine that one on the Pro!
Omega bracelets are so damn ugly!
The president style on the Reduced is one of their best looking. Only bested by the original Speedy flat link.
But the current Speedy and Sea pro bracelets are some of the most atrocious bracelets in the industry, in terms of looks.
You're a real class act, Sir Gentry. Fantastic presentation. I did, thoroughly enjoy it. Cheers
I picked up a Speedy Reduced/Automatic at the start of lockdown here in the UK as the market ground to a halt. I would never normally mention values, but I felt I got a tremendous bargain paying just £930. It was a little cheaper since it didn't come with the bracelet (which wont be missed) but still felt like exceptional value. The watch has since been authenticated and I'm extremely happy with it!
new one?
Great video! This was my first watch and i absolutely love it, it is a strap monster.
Love this watch! I love the vintage vibe. In an age where bigger is more desirable, the speedy reduced 3510.50 is the antithesis of the BIG craze. Watch sizes will (and are starting to) scale back....
Invicta: hold my beer
Hello TGV, great video, enjoyed listening to your insights. ⌚️⏱
Nice to see a reduced back on the channel ! I personally don't like the sub dials being so close to the edges. On the other hand the professional is too big. The first omega in space is the perfect combination in my opinion 😊
The speedy pro was my grail watch for years, but i came across a 45 mm planet ocean at a very good price two years ago, witch has been my daily d(r)iver since then. I was on vacation in Italy three weeks ago, and i bought a speedy saphfire sandwich at a jeweller selling out for closure, again at a very good price, but i kind of regret it now. I don't feel the magic any more, after wearing it for two weeks, i think it's too small, i became accustomed at the bigger PO, and i have a quite large wrist witch doesn't help my perception either. Not sure if i should keep it, all tough the speedy will always be a classic, i've had some compliments on it, and never had any with the PO.
Oh and nice review TGV, thank you for the time and effort.
You've changed your presentation style of little bit. I like it! Also, welcome to philly.
I love watching you from France ! You're the best 😉
Thank you :D
Vive la France!!!
Best regards,
TGV
Never had an issues with the clasp, it feels very secure. Don't let that put you off if you are considering this watch.
I considered the Reduced in the early 2000s but opted for the movement sister, the Dynamic III Chrono which NEVER let me down (unserviced for about 20 years) and was made in very low numbers, especially as the transition model with Tritium numbers which aged so beautifully during our 20+ years trip on this planet. Now it got "Omega spec. full service" at my trusted watchmaker and I fell in love again.
The reason why I opted for the Dynamic instead of the Reduced over 20 years ago was that I was in the waiting line for my dad´s 1971 step dial Speedmaster Pro and I didn´t want to have two Speedmasters sitting around later (now I would). Meanwhile I have dads over 50 years old Pro and it got a full "Omega spec." service with caring for keeping it most original.
If the prices would still be as low as they once were, I´d buy me a Reduced I as a link between my Speedi Pro and the Dynamic III. But to be honest there are so many other watches I like. If I were an Omega newbie I´d look out for the Reduced I as a personal daily user Speedi and then look out for a 1960s 321 model. Great watch and I do trust the two module movements of Omega. My Dynamic is COSC accurate with ease after the first service after 20 years of unserviced use. Great video, TGV.
Nice vid, still considering a Speedmaster but I’ll be looking at the full sized once as I have an 8” wrist.
lovin the new intro ! edit: even the filmography really got amazing !
Thank you Abraham, very kind of you to say.

@@theurbangentry by the way I picked up an SKX007 because of you! 👍👍
Enjoyed this doc-review, these vids are getting better, music cues and visuals 👌👌. I have always liked the Speedmaster, its a chronograph that is very versatile and with a very tooly look and feel. Will always like to try one on and have first impression on it.
Thank you Federico, I really appreciate it, especially after all the hard work and time everyone in my team put in. You are an absolute gent for saying that. O&U!

@@theurbangentry Onwards and upwards kind sir 👍
Many thanks for sharing your knowledge and experience about this fantastic piece. Very intersting! Ottimo lavoro!
I have this version, with the lume turning a nice pumpkin color. I adore it. It feels sportier than its big brother with those minute markers, but the size is spot on for my small wrist. I didn't care for the bracelet at first, but I admit that it has grown on me, as it's very comfortable, and looks great.
VERY nice, I love how you put that "pumpkin color" and also you are so right, it doe feel more "sporty" than the pro.
Bang on.
Thank you Gabriel, I love reading such perceptive comments on the watch, keep enjoying it!
Best regards,

Just bought It today. Looking forward to receive It. I think I decided It after watching your review 😀... ( I have seen It a few times....) Thank you
Yeah! The good old Speedy reduced, I love to see one back on your wrist! I
love mine, it will always be a keeper. It's such a great watch, maybe it will be on a high demand list in the future. The prices have risen in recent years.
It suits you so we'll TGV!
Greetings Sebastian
Thank you Sebastian, its like a Gentry classic I suppose!?
You bring up an excellent point, crazy how things turn out. I am sure like me, you remember when they were almost half the price!
I really took that for granted I must confess, oh well, enjoy yours a little bit extra for me.
Best regards,
TGV
Great video! I love all the Speedys!! I definitely need a 42mm though! Cheers!
I'm a 7.75 wrist but I don't like anything over 40mm. SpeedyR is just beautiful. But I prefer to wear a plain watch. TGV thanks for your great classy work.
Very cool watch. Keep up the good work.
It is a wonderful video as usual. Maybe some day you could talk about another very rare speedmaster model, the reference 311.30.44.50.01.001, the first co-axial speedy, the one which was a transaction from classic speedmaster to the new models.
That’s a great review.. well done
Just got a reduced a couple of months ago and loved it right away. Inevitably I started wondering about what the moonwatch would look like on the wrist - surely it would be even better? - I have to say I actually prefer the reduced I love the busier dial and the more intricate feel this gives. I also love the fact the crown is out of line - Quirks are always good! although when it comes to service I might think different!
Great video as always, I'd love you to do a review of the Sinn 103 st sa with the acrylic, such an iconic watch but at £1600 a superb lower cost alternative to the speedy...anyway all the best Tristano..
"Pure class certification" I'm sold.
you are to blame for my purchase of the reduced 3539..absolutely loving it and wear it everyday. have my eyes on a marui panda reduced next :)
Of course one of the BIGGEST subject for wristwatches fans !
Thank you very much Tristano for this, again, great video
As a 3510.10 owner, and grey-aged-man ;-) I fully agree with you
I wish you the best from Paris
Take care
Éric
I owned one for the last year. It didn't have the metal bracelet, and it needed servicing. I let it to fund the professional. It was always a tad small to me. It got me into a luxury watch and Omega, so it will always have a special place.
Great Vid TGV. My 7.5" wrist pines for a standard 42mm Moon watch. I love winding a watch every morning. This looks small on my watch.
The speedy automatic is really cool. Could not care if haters say it's not a real speedy. I agree with you TGV, to get the coaxial movement for not much more is a no brainer. Take it easy TGV hope all is well👍
It's like I'm watching a National Geographic special on a Speedy. When paused, could be a page Omega advert on GQ or Top Gear Magazine. Nice one TGV, kudos to the channel.
Oh and 7:04, guilty as well.
A much needed review!
Thank you sir!
Best regards,
TGV
Very well produced video. I like the limited editions the most with their colorful dials. But the cost to service is an issue. Other than price the FOIS and CK2998 models offer a lot of cool design pluses and are just under 40mm.
Wow thank you!! This will be my first watch, I’m super grateful for your video!! You’re an incredible story teller 🙏🏼
Do you recommend this as a first watch?
Fits your wrist perfectly!
A watch for the ages, Nice review TGV!
Can you do a review on the Bulova "Lunar Pilot" It looks to be a fun watch to add to a collection as well!
🇬🇧 This is probably the only Speedy I would be interested in. Great video and hope life is good 👍🏻
Thank you Mark :D
Best regards,
TGV
Agreed!
I've always liked the outdoor ones. Very nice and classic piece.
Good day, Tristano! I miss a lot the "duel" programs you used to do in the past...You know? It would be interesting a triple comparison between the original, the reduced and the first Omega in space numbered edition. Thank you for you reviews!
Thank you Enrique, I miss doing this too but they involve so much work, a triple comparison would take weeks!
This video alone took almost an entire week, but hopefully worth it. Once I am settled I will try to see if I can do more comparisons.
Best regards,
TGV
I understand it is a lot of work, and I thank you all the effort!
What a beautiful video, great work
Good evening TGV, thank you for your thoughts in the Speedy Reduced. I've been thinking about the Speedy Reduced a lot lately (given my 6.2" wrist). 😉 Have a good day and enjoy the slender Speedy Reduced in the wrist.
For you Heiko, always a pleasure and you are true gent for saying so. Thank you my friend.
I hope I could help with your decision. I may of been a tad harsh on it perhaps, but trust me, it has that Speedy feeling and you will love it I am sure. But don't rush, enjoy the hunt!
Best regards,
TGV
Just ordered a speedy reduced. Can not wait 🤞
I went for the current Speedmaster Racing - model 326.30.40.50.01.001 with the 3330 co-axial movement. It's midway between the Reduced and the Pro at 40mm and has a modern build with the Speedy look.
