Just got my 1st Speedy today! Woohoo.
How many speedy are you gonna get?😂
Still my favourite thing ever! Absolutely love my Speedy, it'll stay with me for the rest of my years now
The saphire is my grail watch . Am saving up for it . Some day I will have one .
Same, i really want the yellow gold one
I’m saving for my first G shock. Hopefully one day
Not a fan of the milky ring though 😑👎🏼
(From OMEGA website FAQ)
All current OMEGA watches are water resistant to the depth defined by the model specifications, provided that the water resistant components are intact. This means that an OMEGA watch that is water resistant to 30 metres can be worn for swimming (with vigorous movement) at depths of up to 30 metres underwater for extended periods without restriction.
Mate are you aware that those 30m are not REALLY 30m? those 30m mean that its barely splash proof only about the 100m its swimming suitable. There are many resources where you can fact check this.
@@ThePelosChanelwrong mate. At least for omega. Omega has come out and explicitly said that 30m, t
50m, 300m means exactly that.
Other brands play the 30m = splash proof. Omega gives the actual water resistance and has said that you can swim in the speedy. Full stop.
Sorry I'm new to the horological community, but wouldn't saying it is waterproof in metres mean depth in water, whereas if Omega had used 3 ATM that could be misleading cos ATM measures pressure depth, not waterproofing?
I’ve swam in mine and had no issues. It did get water inside when I went to a water park though. Think the pressure hitting the water was the issue.
Well researched. Learned a lot from this video.
A watch that I have drooled over through many a jewellers window but alas still cant afford one not even a second hand one but I dream of having one and thats what keeps me going to work.
I felt the same for years. Bought mine last week. Keep up the hard work and I promise you it’ll pay off in huge smiles when you see it on your wrist. 👍🏼
The number of seconds indizes on the dial changed. They were not correct in the older versions (since the start of the professional dial) regarding to the beatrate of the movement. Now they fit (3 tics per second).
Now THAT is a fact I can get behind!
Pro tip!
Amazing video. U gave me more stories to share when i wear my moonwatch. Thanks
Great video! Thank you! 10:39 I love my hesalite Moonwatch 3861! I knew all of these and I’m glad I’m not the only one that thought the 12 o’clock marker looked like a johnson! lol
Just ordered a 2019 hesalit 1861 in near mint condition, I simply love that watch and can't wait to receive it........
The hesalite looks incredible. Just got one last week.
I bought a hesi this week. Fully expected to buy a SS, because everyone saying how the hesi has a "warmth" to it sounded like post-purchase justification.
I tried both on. Now I get it. The hesilite really does change the way the dial displays for the better over the sapphire. It's very hard to explain, but the viewing angles and somewhat of a 3D effect happen with the hesi that don't happen with the sapphire.
That said...I do wish there was a hesi back option as well. I don't look at the movement often, but I do like to admire from time to time.
This is so good. Such a well done video with careful attention to detail. *applause*
Dial typography is interesting indeed. One font that appears again and again across several brands is Eurostile, an Italian 1960s font. But then there are also Times New Roman and Helvetica. Sometimes even Arial. Given how considered watch design is, it seems weird that this does very often not extend to the typography.
"the twelve o'clock marker is differentiated with two balls either side of the main shaft" - officially my favorite Morgan quote
First time heard about the fight between Costco and Omega. Very interesting. Wish Costco could start to sell more watch brands at wholesale price level.
Costco is not an authorized dealer, so Amiga will honor no warranty on any of their watches purchased through Costco.
@@vvvhhhhhbb- True, but how many times have you needed the warranty?
If I had a problem I’d just take it to my watchmaker and still be ahead since I never sell my watches.
I find shopping at Costco a miserable experience. I wouldn't go back there if everything was free.
Bought my wife a constellation at Costco 22 years ago. It just had its first servicing this past December.
@@masterdad-zf9po Yeah that's cool. Costco still carries 8 Omega models, mostly ladies watches, according to their US website.
Ordered the sapphire yesterday. Had my eye on one for the last 7 years. Finally pulled the trigger!
Likewise, walk in AD,bought the sapphire 2 weeks ago, 3861 Master Chronometer, Meta Certified, is super accurate
Congrats man
My 4th watch in my collection, purchased on April 4, 2024.
1 - Tag Heuer Formula
2 - Omega Seamaster 300m (Green)
3 - Rolex Submariner (Steel)
4 - Omega Speed master (Sapphire)
Hope to get many more. Goal is 1-2 per year.
Target watch:
Tudor Black Bay (Red)
Tissot PRX
Rolex GMT Master (Pepsi) - The hardest to get.
Fantastic to see the Tissot, amazing watches for the price, I have the open heart gentlemen and seastar 2000, great watches.
4:54 "differentiated with TWO BALLS" 🤣🤣 (background music and crimson channel wallpaper choice is top notch)
I have one reference 3570.50.00 that I acquired at a special moment in my life and I love it. My first Speedmaster. I don't sell it and I won't exchange it for more modern references, even though I know the comfort of the new bracelet and the significant improvement that the new caliber 3861 has brought. If you use it carefully and maintain it regularly with a good watchmaker, it will last a long time. Hugs from this Brazilian spectator.
Good video - cheers Andrew
Cool content, Andrew. More of this.
Hmm, some time ago I had 7 Speedmasters, today I only have 5. I miss the two I sold…
I have both the sapphire sandwich and the hesalite version in my collection. Hesalite is my preferred.
Care to explain why you prefer the hesalite one? I am looking to but one of the versions, so your opinion may help me. Thanks!
@@carlosalvarez4641 of course. The sapphire sandwich is too perfect - i like the idea notion of getting patina on the hesalite over time, and with the closed case back it’s more true to the one they take on space flights. As I already own perfect watches, I wanted this one to tell the story over the years
I caution you though, should you get the hesalite, it scratches very easily. I scuffed it against the wall on day one and cried a little.
@@carlosalvarez4641 I have 5 Speedmasters which only one is sapphire and four is hesalite. Dating between 1965 to 2021, if I only could have one Speedmaster and money was a bit tight I would choose the 3570.50 from before 2014, the small box hesalite, as they are the cheapest. If you can afford a bit more it would be the tritium version from before 1998. I also have two 105.012’s from the 1960’s and an Ed White from 1966. The Ed White is the one I would keep. The next one would probably be the new 321 version if I can find the money. Speedmasters are generally good value.
@@pardhonsiThanks much!
@@carlosalvarez4641the hesilate holds the value.
The Speedmaster, in his original form like those in this video, is one of the few "not super expensive" watches that hasn't been properly replicated (by now) by chinese factories, especially now that they managed to fully reproduce the 4130 from Rolex. When they do it, they use the Seagull ST19 which has the subdials farer from the center of the dial. Hence you can recognize the replica just by that and by the fact that the original has the hour markers at 3/6/9 as long as the others, while on the rep they are a tad shorter.
Even though some of the parts on the genuine watch are made in China?
@@rayleeaustralia What parts of the watch are made in china?
But to answer your question, yes. So far, the Rolex Cal. 4130 has been replicated properly (hence the existance of frankens, due the to replicas allowing genuine parts being swapped in no problem), and I would want to add the Patek Cal. 240 has also pretty much been replicated now (there exist replica PP 5740 perpetual calendars with free sprung weights, gold rotors and all the functions work as intended).
@@avexionix most if not all. Parts made in China and assembled in Switzerland
@@rayleeaustralia Wow, you really are just making stuff up, aren't you lol.
@@avexionix do some research. Talk to people who are in the industry. I am obviously wasting my time talking to you
Nice video. Love my Speedy.
Would rather have the applied indices than the painted on but still an amazing looking watch. Just ordered mine😊
Thank you for mentioning the phallic 12 o’clock marker 😂
I am shopping for an everyday watch that I intend to wear as my primary watch for a very long time. ( going for a sort minimalist approach) I have narrowed it down to either Rolex GMT master ii 70hrs, or Speedy professional, sapphire. The price difference between them is nearly 100% Rolex being more expensive on the gray market, but given i intend to do this once, the price itself is not a determining factor. I have owned several Omegas, but no Rolex yet. Love the Speedy Pro look and feel though, and Rolex rubes me the wrong way with the artificial shortage and AD shenanigans. Tough choice.
If you like them both, then the Speedmaster is a no brainer, on cost and availability alone. It's also more understated, if such things matter to you. I have been a Rolex man for the best part of my time in this hobby (25 years), and still own a number of them, but find myself wearing my Speedmaster most of the time these days. Mine is the latest hesalite crystal / 3861 movement version, the sapphire version is arguably more versatile as it doesn't require the same level of care for a primary watch.
Great video 🤓
Finally getting mine this month after years of saving :D
On my 1978 vintage speedmaster the original bracelet has a tiny quick release on the bracelet clasp
Great video
Love my SS 3861!!
I love my sapphire sandwich! And, I never noticed the 12:00 markers looking like a twig and berries until Marc from Long Island Watch pointed it out during a video with TGV. Now, I cannot un-see it.
Brilliant video,i love my OMEGA, 👍🏴🇬🇧
I have never been disappointed since I became a customer of gussl. Their timepieces are of exceptional quality.
went back a forth for months before finally deciding on hesalite.
The absence of the self winding counterweight displays more of that beautiful movement than for example the PL.
One day! I will buy one!
No Rolex reference in the thumbnail? This is my shocked face!
Yet you couldn't help yourself and mentioned them.
I’ve been looking at this for nearly 40 years! I still can’t decide between sapphire and hesalite
My 3212.80.00, a somewhat obscure but beautifully blue version, has 100m of WR.
The new 321 Ed White has the Omega logo laser etched on the inside at the center of its sapphire crystal.
I choose the sapphire version so that I can have peace of mind without needing to worry about scratching it, at the same time I could admire the beautiful calibre 3861.
Liking the video for the balls's's's reference 👍 (plus the fact it's a wonderful watch 😉)
Andrew which one do you personally think is better the hesalite or sapphire?
Almost brought a 30th anniversary speedy for 4k and wish I had
It’s unfortunate that we can’t have a hesalite crystal with sapphire back. None of us is going into space soon, so I’m more interested in seeing the movement, but I do like the look of the hesalite over the dial better.
I'm one of the weirdos that often prefers solid case-backs. Hesalite for me.
I know you're quite wary of owning too many watches Andrew, but of all the (relatively) attainable luxury sports watches you talk about, you're enthusiasm for the speedmaster makes me wonder why you haven't yet pulled the trigger on a purchase - is there any particular reason you don't own one?
I've already had two!
ahh well now we need to know the story around that in another video! (unless I've missed that tidbit in a previous video)@@AndrewMorganWatches
I visited the Omega museum in Bienne last year and l was disappointed. There was hardly any information about using the tachy dial although it's been a feature of most of their models.
I know how the dial works but there are different ways of using it and l wanted to know the reasons for different tachy bezel designs.
On the left hand side just under the bezel there's a small indent in order to remove the bezel with a blade.
It's the 321 for me. Not just the movement. The build quality, the cermic, the size... unfortunately I like the "regular" (42mm) Moonwatch bracelet more.
321 is impossible to get tho.. three year wait list at the least
@@user-lv8gz9cu5w there are 3 new ones currently for sale in EU at less than 1000 euro over retail. I'd still wait. Just to say it's not impossible.
These are the two watches I have been salivating over. Thanks for literally removing the money from my pocket yourself🤑
Have you been lusting for one?
According to Omega website, 50m is good for snorkeling. Modern Speedmaster has bad WR is a myth. Omega's 50m is so much more than 50m from other no name brands.
completely agree. I wish people would get over it. I've worn one pretty much every day for 30 years almost. I swim 3x a week, I've snorkel several times on holiday, water-ski, jet ski, washed the car and showered. Perfectly fine and never an issue. If you ned more than that the speedy isn't the way to go.
@@chrisnorthall8317BS
Wonder, does the Hesalite version still have inner soft iron casing after the upgraded movement?
I hate to be this guy but if it’s a Greek mythological creature it would be Poseidon’s chariot. I’m sorry, I wish I didn’t have to write this, it’s a sickness.
No it's not. You wanted to show everyone how "intelligent" you are supposed to be.
@@vvvhhhhhbb I feel very seen 😉
No, he’s right. Neptune would be Roman. The thing about Roman gods is that they’re more or less Greek gods with a different name and spray paint.
The first step to recovery is admitting that it’s a problem.
As a Greek, i salute you as Neptune and hippocampos would be like Nascar with WRC cars.
I always look forward to Sundays now that Andrew has taken over from Adrian Barker as the weekend long form CZcams creator of choice.
Yeah…The moon watch is the end game really. Doesn’t hurt It’s also a strap monster. Sapphire simply for the case back.
☝🏼the Ed white 321 has the omega Symbol engraved in the crystal too …which also somehow gets rid of the milky ring on the normal crystal models…. Witchcraft !
I can't unsee what's going on with that 12 O'clock marker now.
You made no mention of the 1861/63 movements?
Easy! Hesalite for the better look from the front, and as upgrade an aftermarket sapphire caseback to see the awesome movement.
😱 The Omega International Police Force are en route to your location!
Agreed! I'd love to upgrade my hesalite with a sapphire caseback too. To the Omega Police force: see you in court!! 😎
You clearly did not read what omega means when they say 50m water resistance. They actually mean it, with vigorous motion at that depth. But i imagine that reading the official material is not as popular as making weird statements to move the masses.
I've got the Hesilyte model. Love it, but I wish I had gotten the sapphire sandwich instead.
“Hesilyte” ??

A silly question but I what about this "DON Bezel" mentioned on a Speedmaster?
What I’ve noticed is that the new snoopy prices are 50% off their highs. Time to buy?
Definitely if it’s a Snoopy you’re after. I’ve watched the price of my mk1 Snoopy climb to £20k before dropping to £10k - £11k. Makes no odds to me as I’m not selling, however if I was buying I’d very much be interested.
The best is the Hesalite speedy and you purchase a high quality 3rd party sapphire exhibition caseback.
I’m patiently waiting for the day Andrew pull: the trigger on a 3861 / 321 Speedmaster Professional. Cmon, you know what it…
I've already had two Speedmasters so it's nice to try new stuff
Anyone know exactly what that Rolex at 2:53 is? It doesn’t have a “Mercedes” hour hand like normal subs.
Now I can’t unsee the Johnson at 12 o’clock 🤦🏻♂️
Do people have a hard time in general locating the 12 o’clock marker?
Maybe I’m alone, here but I’ve never…….
I bought the original version of this moon watch in 1984 at the BX at Hahn AB, Germany. I paid $234 dollars for it. How the price has gone up.
Interestingly, adjusted for inflation.. that would be around $750 in todays money. A bargain!
Omega have built a better reputation through the years, and the watches they sell are good with quality movement. If they not adjust based on competitors prices they will just be another watch brand. People also have more money today than in 1984, and if they don't, it has become easier to finance than ever.
Saphire. Value for money watch.
Hesalite looks better, sapphire well it’s ok but hesalite is better unless it’s the only watch you got maybe. I have a sapphire one but rarely use it as the milky white edge on the crystal is actually a bit annoying. The hesalite just looks better.
I tried both. Was going to go for sapphire but preferred the hesalite plus the brushed bracelet.
This is the best watch ⌚️ to play Starfield ✨🪐🚀 with lol 🤓😎🤩
Here for the shaft and balls jokes
Aren’t we all? That and introductions to the First Sale Doctrine of intellectual property law, which is equally thrilling, enit?
Caliber 3861 is hackable. A first on the Moonwatch.
Also it’s now a Master Chronometer.
Previous generations 321, 861, 1861 had never been certified chronometers.
They do have a 321 chronometer now.
As far as I can tell from Omega’s website none of the 321 models is a chronometer.
Am I missing something here?
And??
Although I had doubts about buying a replica watch, gussl dispelled my doubts. The watch has an authentic look and feel.
The Speedmaster is so tough for me. I started out really wanting one before I knew too much about it. Then I learned about the different versions and I couldn’t figure out which one I would want, so I went to an Omega boutique to try one on. I was instantly turned off by it and it made me sad because I really wanted to like the first watch worn on the moon and the watch that timed the 14 second burn on Apollo 13. I spent the next two years in a watch depression. Recently, I was in a watch store interested in a completely different Omega and the guy asked if I wanted to try on a Moonwatch. t first I dismissed it. I already knew that I didn’t like it. But then I caved in. I’m back in love but I can’t decide which one. How could anyone make peace with this situation?
When a brand makes to many variants it become very confusing. One reason why I didn’t get one
Just get the original hard caseback. Paid 3k for mine and could fetch at least 4k for it now 👌
3861 sapphire. It has an attractive movement that isn’t covered up by a rotor. Take advantage of that.
People who say “get the one on the moon” is silly because the hesalite with closed caeback has many differences compared to the actual moonwatch. Silly snobbery.
@@albundy3929 Thanks for the input. I’m leaning sapphire, but as I said, it’s hard to commit.
You have issues, kid.

I’ve never noticed the two balls below the shaft.
Damn I don't think I can unsee the balls now. Fonts started to bother me as well.
All hail the broadarrow speedmaster.
Even the mighty omega should know better than to tangle with costco lol
Did you say that thing about shoes in bed just to see whether people watched all the way to the end?
Did you know that the Omega Speedmaster was actually worn on the moon?
My speedy has a solid back. I don’t want to see the innards . My car doesn’t have a glass bonnet……
Am I the only one who thinks the sub-dials look like moon craters as a possible nod to its lunar heritage?
Hiiiieeeee 👋🏽

A Johnson, aka John Thomas.
I feel like I’m the only one who says sapphire sandwich
Me too …. I’ve just bought it today, it is such an impressive movement to look at imo
Most people are sheeps, they hear negative about a milky ring and they see it as a bad thing, instead of seeing the watch from another perspective. The Sapphire is a luxury upgraded watch. Most people want to stay in the 60's with a plastic watch. Yes Hesalite do look good, but it's plastic though. Spending thousands on plastic. Lol. Remember to buy polywatch too 😂
Now I only see the Johnson at 12 o’clock….
I’m still none the wiser. Everything tells me to buy the original but would love to be able to glance at that movement and would rather not be polishing my hesalite daily
I've had one best part of 30 years, let me tell you, you wont be polishing daily. one a year if that. I wear mine every day.
@kelvynbettridge the 3861 movement is beautiful to look at. Living in a silicon era, when things get too hectic, it is good to take time out by popping the watch off and watching it work.
Get the Sapphire. The 3861 was never flight qualified by NASA anyway, if you're a purist you should get one with the 321, 861 or 1861 movement.
Without watching, hesalite. Closer to the original.
No water on the moon.
And to this day they still stupidly cover their own logo with a bulge on the chrono hand….
