I’ve come back to this clip several times. It’s settled, wife an I are buying matching Speedmasters for our 20th anniversary. This video has greatly helped with our narrowing down to which model/brand wins out on our extensive search. Cheers!
I laughed out loud when he said 'I'm just kidding, I don't care about any of that crap' ... so many youtubers are dead serious when they say 'like and subscribe'
Mnhh
👌😂
I bought both and I love them equally. the moonwatch is the moonwatch, the reduced fits very well my smaller wrist and has a beautiful bracelet
The "Joel Schumacher" you mention at 8:50 is in fact former F1 driver Michael Schumacher. Joel Schumacher is (or was) an American movie director 😂
Spectacular review, thank you! Actually prefer the dial of Reduced between the two, it's a very elegant watch indeed. I think the fact it's hated (by some ignorant folks) tells more about the haters than the watch.
Glad I found your channel, sir. Really enjoying the content.
You have the best introduction & music. My 1999 Moon Watch Speedmaster Professional is a favorite and got a ton of wrist time when I was on the job. It recently returned from authorized service with new Hesalite acrylic crystal, pins, hands, crown, washers etc. it looks like it did in 1999. It’s a Classic for sure.
Bonzer Wolf did you have any choice in what they replaced? If it were me, I wouldn't want them to touch anything other than the movement and anything corroding on the dial...
Ferien7 i did not make any requests. But you can contact the authorized repair centers directly
I absolutely love your videos! Your images and historical background are wonderful! I love that there aren’t a million ads.
Well done. I have a reduced as I have. Smaller wrist and like automatics. Wonderful watch. Gets the most compliments of any watch I own.
The reduced is such a classy watch, I mean if you have the wrist size go the Pro but there's so many people with the Pro because of what it is and it's just way to big and they should've gone the reduced.
Great comparison of two wonderful Omega Speedy's! Love your voice, please put out a few audio books that I could listen to while trying to sleep.. Also think you do a fabulous job with your watch videos, keep up the awesome work...
Nice video, but for the record sapphire and ruby are both forms of corundum which is a crystalline form of aluminium oxide (Al2O3). Diamond is a crystalline allotrope of pure carbon, an entirely different substance. Cheers
Nice review and comparison of the two Omegas. Perhaps Omega should have named the Speedmaster Reduced “Speedmaster 38” it sounds much nicer.
One item I wish to point out is that although the Speedmaster reduced is automatic it can operate in space, just look at Fortis, where their Cosmonauts timepieces are versions with automatic movements and they work perfectly in outer space.
Robert Cabana wore his reduced on sts65 and sts88 - safe to say it worked just fine.
Thank you for breaking g down the differences so well. Great channel. Thank you. PS. A viral video you could do would be to show how to (and why) change bands and what tools and methods to change the bands.
Fantastic review. Found the perfect automatic watch for my wife in the reduced. Thanks for quality content as usual.
Great review. I have my Omega Reduce since 1998, I love the watch. It works fine and looks very classic. I am from Malaysia.
It cracks me up when I see youtubers demonstrate how a chronograph works as if we have never seen one before and should look at it in amazement. Anyone watching this with no except for maybe 1% so we’re all forced to endure a demonstration of the buttons on the side for the 1%. I prefer the bracelet.
Another top notch video.
Speedmaster Professional is so Iconic.
Well done for your presentation.
I'm dealing with Omega watches so long time but I never have the chance to see an accurate analysis about those two watches before.
That Reduced looks fantastic on your girl, great idea.Great review.
Awesome review.....the ambient Interstellar tunes in the background were icing on the cake.
Great video, as always, but I did notice an error: Around the 15:00 you say that diamond is a type of sapphire. This is not true. Sapphire is a crystalline form of alumina (aluminium oxide), while diamond is a crystal form of carbon.
Years ago, early into the hobby, i bought a reduced for all the reasons you mention. “Hell, it looks the same, its automatic! Why spend more money!” Then, I got it in the mail and my 7.5” wrist laughed at it.
I have the speedmaster reduced and I absolutely love it. I think the size is perfect. I have a 6 3/4 in wrist and it fits me perfectly. I also prefer the smaller watches. My other favorite watch is a Tudor 36mm.
I also love the Tudor 36mm and I'm thinking about purchasing one or the Omega Railamster 57 Trilogy. I think the Tudor would fit better my 6.75 inch wrist, but there is something about the Omega's dial that keeps my coming back to this watch.
@@robertkubis2799 if the omega is the one you really like then go for it. Since writing this I’ve sold the speedmaster reduced and bought a speedmaster professional. The professional was what I really wanted and I kept thinking about it.
We have the same favorites! I just got my reduced for the slot right next to my Tudor date day
I am new to this hobby and learn so much from your videos. Your passion for watches shows. Keep up the great work!
The first watch actually worn on the moon was worn by Buzz, Neil left his in the LM. Buzz "lost" his so the only actual lunar surface watches on display are from Apollo 12, 14, 15, 16 and 17. Also unless you get a 321 calibre you aren't wearing the exact model worn on the moon but close enough is good enough!
thanks for the info!!
I'm a guy with small wrists (6") and still went for the professional. The relatively short lug-lug distance on the Pro makes it wear smaller than most 42mm. Great review btw, I immediately hit the subscribe button after watching this video!
Thanks Jack! And welcome!
I love the Omega reduce but here is the thing . Because it has 2 movements , it cost a fortune to have it serviced ! Omg .
I recent bought the new Ed White and i love it, but i keep coming back on youtube to see reviews of the reduced i believe it is a sleeper watch, plus i love that crown! and the two movements on top of each other story, i will buy one for sure it is so affordable at the moment.
Two years ago today you pushed this drug, I'm still addicted !!
Once again exactly right. You nail it every time. I got suckered into a reduced by focal length and savings. Professional for me. I own both the reduced will be a gift to my son. Unless wrist size is an issue just get the pro. You’re going to anyway. Also hesalite just looks better, dial color and crystal shape, as you excellently pointed out.
Great video, as are all your videos. One thing about the reduced is that the original steel bracelet has hollow links and there are tiny little slits in each link (where the metal is "folded') and those slits catch your arm hairs, constantly pinching them. That makes for a somewhat uncomfortable wear. Unfortunately you did not show the original bracelet of the reduced model.
Really good video and very informative. Due to really thin wrists it’s the reduced for me but I’m more than happy with that. Best watch Chanel on CZcams 👍🏻
I have a Speedmaster Reduced with a silver dial. It can be worn everyday but also as a substitute for a pure dress watch when required. BTW, I'm a man with small wrists. Servicing costs could be a bit high, though, due to the dual movement (reflected by its 46 jewels).
Just got a speedmaster reduced today. What a beautiful watch.
what a great review man, I have the hesalite version of the moon watch and I love it. where did you buy the vintage leather strap for your moon watch?
I started with a 39mm Speedy date and sold it to get my Moonwatch. I loved the smaller, automatic Speedy but the Moonwatch is just so much cooler.
As of 2021 Omega has several "reduced" Speedmasters available (20 models in the catalogue). Ref. 324.30.38.50.01.001 is pretty similar in looks to the ones shown on the video, although it is a co-axial chronometer movement (all the new 38 mm seem to be). But it is a "reduced" Speedmaster...
Music from movie ,, Interstellar “
Great review, loads of information to help me in my decision making, thank you kindly!
Where did you purchase these vintage leather straps? They look amazing with the black dials
I got the one for the reduced at a local store for $40 and the one for the moonwatch on amazon for around $30 i think. Thanks for watching!!
Wow I love what you say about much more limited it is for women in the watchworld. I would love some cool options that don't blind me with their bling haha, great video!
Just wow you sir are not only incredibly knowledgeable but hugely engaging and a pleasure to listen to 20 minutes flew by! As a speedy reduced owner I may now give that one of the collection to the Mrs because I agree it looks fuckin cool on a lady's arm. subscribed!
Love the Reduced as it really is just a small form factor Moon Watch.
I'm sure there is a reason, but am wondering why they don't use diamonds in place of ruby's? Cost would be one reason, but when talking high end watches, cost would be of no concern.
My understanding is ruby can be machined and polished to a suitable bearing shape, but diamond almost by definition can't be machined.
Another great easy going vid, only recently stumbled on your channel. I have the Reduced Mk2 which replaced the one in your vid. Only made for a few years and has a sapphire, loses the numerals and gets a better clasp. I've only worn it on leather though..
Thanks a lot for your video, learn a lot with you. I have a moonwatch 42 mm hesalit glass. You focus on the omega sign in the glass, think that I didn’t know. I was thinking of repolishing mine in the next service, but this will certainly affect this omega sign, so no way... I will keep it like this, never polished, so cool...
Nice review. You covered things most miss....more to these watches that meets the eye............
The very best video I've seen regarding these two watches. Excellent
One of my all time favourite reviews. Now that im officially in the market, what are your thoughts on the 3510.vs the 3539?
Oisin. Stumbled on this one ,must have been before I subscribed! Although a comparison that has been flogged to death you did a great review!! Loved the example of refraction you did on the MW. Had 4 Speedy models MW, Reduced TT, Broad Arrow reissue and finally FOIS. Love my Fois but MW remains my fav. Reduced module is delicate and if it breaks you risk really high bills for repairs.
Thanks I think that answered all my questions about the two watches. Cheers.
Fun fact: the first hand watch in space was a Pobeda, however it was not on the hand of a cosmonaut, but on the leg of a dog.
Personally i will like and subscribe to your channel, because their highly informative and full of interest.
Just keep up the quality and you will have a loyal follower until Kingdom Come
Been wearing my first Speedmaster for 25 years before it couldn't be wind and needed a service... After lots of NASA astronauts' feedback, Omega should know the Tachymètre bezel should be replaced by a 60 minutes bezel, or at least have the 60 minutes bezel as an option instead of all the goodies in the shoesize box ! Omega Bienne should get it right to celebrate 50 years Apollo 13 !
Very cool watch. Still not sure which one is better plastic vs glass. Might need to get both
One of your best videos, O’Malley. Well done!
LOL dude now I'm thinking of giving my Reduced to my wife.....almost....
BC Drummer LOL
Sale it buy her a Tissot then get yourself a professional model...hahaha,
I absolutely love my reduced. It’s a bargain. Just be wary a servicing can be costly.
Great video love this watch as much as the Tudor panda ‘ love both watch’s and getting as my first special watch which one ? help lol .
Frankly the dilemma I'm having is whether to go with the Sapphire MOTM or the new black Seamaster 300M. I can get either one for around the same cost and I love both of them. I currently have a Tudor Black Bay Blue bezel and I know the MOTM makes most sense but I cant get over the tech that Omega is offering in the new Seamaster.
Well, you know it goes. The Speedy will always hold it's value but you can't go swimming etc with it. I have a love for both. Such different watches and from the same brand. Very strange. Maybe do the Motm cos you have the black bay which is tough.
Great work. Very informative in the watch origins and features. I own the Omega Reduced.
When I bought my seamaster from an AD. The lady who served me had a speedmaster reduced on. She looked so classy. I can't afford that yet but my wife sometimes wears my 1980s titanium Seiko sports 100 chronograph 7a38 and I love seeing it on her. So cool coz only I know what it is. (The first ever quartz analogue chronograph)
Cool video and wonderful channel! Really like your way of describing those wonderful time pieces! However, I think that best chronographs are the ones where the chrono complication is embedded in the movement. You seem to "promote" the ones with 2 movements sandwiched...
I agree about chronographs. I’m just defending the reduced cos it gets a bad rap.
@ fully agree! Thanks for your channel! 👍
You can't take anything away from a reduced version as it is also a pure Speedster, well that's what it says on the dial...The Professional model (I'm the owner of one myself) has a better dial configuration, in my opinion. On the reduced version the sub dials are too far apart in my humble opinion. I was in the market for a reduced as I have a 6.75 inch wrist and i saw both in person, but once I had the professional on, the battle was over for me. One thing is true, I would prefer the Professional to be around 40mm wide and lug2lug width 46mm.
Quality content, comparable to the luxury watches you explore. ♠️
Looks like the reduced has been discontinued. The new 40mm Speedmaster has the 3330 movement with 27 jewels.
Nils0scar 40mm? The speedmaster is 42mm
@@Ferien7 The Reduced is 40mm.
Reduced looks better and more dressy with the the polished centre links.
The vintage brown leather belts look fabulous. What year model are these beauties and what movements do they have? And have you serviced them and or changed any part including the crystal?
Good review and also quite your presentation style.
Always a great video to watch, many thanks.
I want one of that Mini Moonwatch!
“I gave it to my girlfriend”
~Baller~
“guys if you like this video please like and subscr... just kidding I don’t care about all that”
Too late, incredible channel and video. After sifting through most of the pretentious watch garbage on youtube this is a breath of fresh air. Great job.
"looks fucking badass" was always on the fence about getting one, as I already have a seamaster 300m. But that comment has helped me decide 👍
I love Omegas!! Thank You for an Awesome Video!!
again a great vid, well done sir
Amazing
I love the review, but gotta correct something: sapphires and rubies are varieties of corundum, which is a crystalline form of aluminium oxide. So they have nothing to do with diamonds, which are a solid form of carbon. Synthetic rubies have been around for a long time. I suppose the vast majority of watches contain synthetic rubies. Someone can correct me on that one, I'm not knowledgeable at all when it comes to watchmakers' material sourcing.
It's taken until now, for you to educate me why the moonwatch is not a automatic (something that irritated me about the watch!). There is no gravity is space so the automatic wouldn't function! 🤯 Everyday is a school day! 🧑🏻🏫
Tag Heuer Aquagraph has a similar stacked design with two movements and around the same amount of jewels.
Great video.
Could you provide the model reference (and year) numbers for each of the watches you reviewed?
Many Thanks.
Why are either of these watches popular? Because they're sexy. Now I want one.
I love your choice of strap, could you tell me where I could purchase the same strap please?
Great video, like your style.
Thank you kindly.
It’s all about how it looks on YOUR wrist.
BEWARE, OMEGA PRODUCTION ERROR - All Speedmasters with cal.1861 or cal.1863 movement (manual wound) paired with 5th of a second markers on dial (seconds divided into 5 parts) or paired with 4th of a second markers, and all with cal.3220 movement (automatic) paired with 5th-second markers on dial, have INACCURATE READING of the chronograph hand due to NO FIT between dial-markers of fractions-of-a-second and the movement’s beat-frequency per second. Cal.1861/1863 beat at 6 vibrations per second (6VPS) and require a 3rd or 6th of a second per marker between the seconds; the cal.3220 beats at 8 VPS and require a half or a 4th or 8th of a second between the markers.
This affects Speedmasters with reference no. 311.10.39.30; 311.33.42.30; 311.30.42.30.01; 3590.50; 3572.50 et cetera (if they have 5th of a second markers paired with a 6 BPS movement - cal.1861 or 1863); 311.30.42.30.03 (a 4th of a second per marker); and it affects Speedmasters with ref. no. 3510.50; 3510.12; 3520.50; 2598.80 etc. (if they have 5th of a second markers, i.e. each second divided into 5 fractions of a second, paired with a 6 beats per second movement - cal.3220 or 1151 etc.).
Incidentally, those with ref. no. 311.32.40.30.01.005; 311.30.42.30.01.004; 311.33.40.30.02.001; percent 311.32.42.30.04.003; 522.30.42.30.04.001 (cal.1861); 311.30.42.30.99.002 (cal.1863); 3876.50.31 (cal.1866) that have a 1/3 of a second per marker (each second divided into 3 parts, i.e. 2 sub-markers between each marker of a full second), are correct.
Even Tudor had the same production error/design flaw, on all their Valj.-based 28,800 BPH (8 BPS) movement equipped Heritage chronographs, having 4 dividers between each full second marker, making it a 5th of a second per marker, with a CHRONO-hand that jerks forward 6 times per second and always miss the first and the third quarter-second-marker). Only now do we see it corrected. And only now have we recently seen Omega NOT cheating in this regard, more than 50 years after they stopped making their 18,000 BPH (5 BPS) movement, cal.321. They even cheated NASA, in the 1960s, equipping the astronauts with a 6 jerks per second chronograph hand over a dial with only 5 fraction-of-a-second markers. How lame and criminal isn’t that ?
Even their so-called 1957 reissue has a 21,600 BPH (6 BPS) movement paired with each second divided into 5 fractions on the dial. Right, a CURRENTLY ONGOING mass sale of factory error/design flaw equipped CRAP, useless for what it is marketed as, a precision instrument for accurate split second timing. Criminal.
Just wondering if anyone could give their 2 cents on the hesalite or sapphire speedy. Having trouble deciding!
Good video , very entertaining 👍
Fantastic video. I love my speedy pro on my NATO.
Can you post a link to where you got the leather strap for your speedy?
Thank you!!
Sorry I noticed it was asked before. But perhaps a link to the amazon site where you ordered it if that’s ok. I’d appreciate it!
Cheers
Love the music and the review ain’t bad
lmao, the part about how cool the watch looks on your gf, hahaha! Love your review man, great job!!! Super fun to watch, and quite informative.
What a great review, many thanks
Great review and comparison. Where did you get the straps? Thanks!
I got one strap locally at a store and the other on amazon.
Loving the interstellar! great watch content as well, haha
did the ex, get to keep the watch?
Great vid. Automatic winding works fine in space though - see Fortis who supply the Russian Cosmonaut's since 1993 with a chronograph to rival the Speedy. their ref. 630.22.141 was the first automatic in space and worked fine using a Lemania 5100 (later Valjoux 7750) movement.
i guess the name reduced didnt give the size away for some?
What are the leather straps on your watches? Thanks!
Just watching this again, is the girlfriend the French one? Hopefully not as this is a great video. Trying to justify buying the Schumacher in black.
If nothing else, the SpeedMaster Professional (SMP) is more aesthetically balanced.
is there a version of the speedmaster professionnal where you can see the manual movement from the caseback? Thanks, keep up with your good work sir.
Yes, i'm wearing it in my video about the 50th anniversary of the moon landing. I show it up close at the start of the video. It's called the sapphire sandwich.
