    Getting my new yaris next week and coming from a 2007 manual car, all these functions had me buffled. Watching your videos helped a lot. Thanks!

      Thanks for the nice comment. I am glad my videos have been useful to watch while you wait for your new Yaris.
      That's a big change jumping from a 2007 car to a 2023 Yaris. Technology has moved on enormously in that time. You are going to have fun with all the new "toys" in your new Yaris.
      I think you will also be amazed at how little fuel your new Yaris uses in comparison to a 2007 car!!!! Not sure of you have seen this video on my experience of fuel consumption over several months ...

    Have to disagree on the hold button,there should be a way of leaving this hold functionality on always. My opinion is there should be an “option” to disable it for those who don’t want it. I’m on my third Toyota all with same annoying non function. Corolla Sport, Yaris Cross and last week took delivery of Corolla Saloon Sol. Upgraded Adaptive Cruise and latest engine but soil stupid hold button selector.

      @Helpful-Stuff  Před 5 měsíci +1

      I agree with you that I think Toyota should have a setting some where in the Settings section of the dashboard where you can set the Hold button to "Always on" or "On when button pressed". These days its just a few lines of code to implement this ... there is no additional hardware or cost ... then the Hold button would work as we both prefer.

      @@Helpful-Stuff Je ne suis pas d'accord avec cela car l'auto hold est une aide en démarrage en pente et ... Pour avoir déjà testé le autohold a un feu rouge à partir d'un moment il se coupe donc ... Je préfère mettre le régulateur de vitesse qui lui maintient l'arrêt 'sil y a une voiture devant soi'

    • @Helpful-Stuff
      @Helpful-Stuff  Před 10 dny

      J'utilise également le régulateur de vitesse lorsque je suis dans une file d'attente qui s'arrête puis se déplace.
      Si je suis dans un trafic qui semble être stationnaire pendant plusieurs minutes, j'utiliserai le bouton Hold.
      Si je suis arrêté sur une pente, la voiture dispose d'un démarrage en côte automatique qui fait reculer la voiture sans avoir besoin d'appuyer sur le bouton Hold ou d'engager le régulateur de vitesse.
      Le bouton du frein de stationnement n'a jamais été utilisé dans ma voiture car la voiture serre le frein de stationnement lorsque vous en avez besoin et l'enlève lorsque vous souhaitez bouger. Je n'ai découvert aucune situation dans laquelle je dois désactiver manuellement le frein de stationnement ou serrer manuellement le frein de stationnement.
      Je pense que la Yaris et les autres voitures Toyota ont de nombreuses façons différentes d'aider le conducteur et chacune utilise la méthode que nous préférons. Je ne pense pas qu'il y ait une bonne ou une mauvaise façon d'utiliser les différentes options... il y a juste des préférences personnelles. (Google Traduction)

      I am located in the UK. In the UK Toyota only sell the Yaris Hybrid - the Yaris petrol engine is not sold in the UK.
      I only know about the two Yaris I have owned ...
      - Yaris (Mark 4) Excel 2022 UK spec has got an Electronic Parking Brake and the Hold button
      - Yaris (Mark 3) Icon 2018 UK spec did NOT have an electronic parking brake and did NOT have the Hold button

    I'm new to automatic cars and only recently purchased a Yaris hybrid. If I'm stationary in a line of traffic and don't want to keep my foot on the brake, do I leave the car in D and engage the hold button so I can take my foot off the brake? Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

    • @Helpful-Stuff
      @Helpful-Stuff  Před 2 dny

      Yes you are correct. As you approach the stationary traffic or when you are already in a queue of stationary traffic simply press the HOLD button and the green HOLD light will illuminate.
      When the car is stationary the amber HOLD light will come on. When the amber HOLD light is on you can take your foot off the brake pedal. The car will not move ... even if the car is in D.
      FYI Once I have left a parking place & started a journey I rarely take the gearstick out of D even if I am sat in a traffic jam.
      When you want to move just press the accelerator and the HOLD function will release the brakes and the amber light will go out.
      Its so much easier than all that mucking about with gearstick, clutch pedal and an old fashioned handbrake !!!

    Can I press that Hold button when I stop on a hill? Every day I leave the underground garage and have to stop for a while to see if it is free to go out into the street

    • @Helpful-Stuff
      @Helpful-Stuff  Před měsícem +1

      Yes ... if you switch on the HOLD function and then drive up the slope out of the underground garage when you stop at the top of the slope to check it is safe to go out onto the street the HOLD function will put the brakes on and you will see HOLD illuminated on the dashboard. You can then sit there without your feet on either the accelerator or brake ... wait for a gap ... then put your foot on the accelerator and pull out into the traffic. The HOLD function will automatically release the brakes so that you can move.
      However, in this situation you may not need to use the HOLD function. The Yaris has Hill-start assist. When you stop on a hill the car will remain stationary until you press the accelerator and move off - without needing to either have your foot on the brake or have the parking brake switched on. However, this is only intended to be used for short periods of time and if the slope is steep it may not hold the car completely stationary. If you usually have to wait for a long time for a gap in the traffic or if the slope out of the underground garage is steep then the HOLD function will probably be the better option.
      Try both systems ... see which works best for you in your situation. Just a thought it is probably best to test and get used to they way these systems work when there is nobody queuing very close behind you on the slope!!!

    Im looking at this car for my parents as a run around in town. Quick question if your car is in Drive and you open the door does the parking brake engage automatically? ... reason I ask is previously our old car didn't as it had an old fashion hand brake and my dad got out the car and the car rolled into the garage doors, this fiasco has left him not wanting/fearing an auto gearbox

    • @Helpful-Stuff
      @Helpful-Stuff  Před 3 měsíci +1

      Interesting question ... it's not something that I have done so I will have to check what happens when I open the drivers door with the car in D when I go out later. I will get back to you later today ...

    • @Helpful-Stuff
      @Helpful-Stuff  Před 3 měsíci +1

      I put the car in D and opened the door. The parking brake did NOT come on. However, the car did make a constant beeping sound which is hard to ignore and the dashboard displays the warning message "Shift to P before exiting vehicle".
      I released the footbrake and the car did start to move forward.
      My own view is that it would be hard to get out of the car with the car in D and the door open mainly because the car is moving!!! ... but also because the car is making a continuous beeping sound and the dashboard display tells the driver to shift to P.
      One totally unrelated comment is that there is a 12V battery problem with the Yaris Mark 4 which means that low mileage owners in particular suffer from a problem with the 12V battery going flat and is unable to start the car. I guess that your Dad will be a low mileage driver. I am an average mileage driver (7,000 miles per year) and my 10 month old car still suffered from the problem and would not start after a single day without use.
      czcams.com/video/-UkrUwpkePM/video.html
      Toyota GB have annoyed me because they have blamed customers for not driving the car enough!!! However, Toyota Poland have announced that there is a fix for the problem that will be rolling out across Europe. I am working on a video to give more information about this fix ... I will paste a link into this discussion when the vid is on CZcams.
      If you are buying a new car then hopefully the new car will be delivered with a 12V battery that will not suffer the problem. If you are buying used then I would absolutely insist on a new 12V battery when you buy the car. I made this video about buying a used Yaris Mark 4.
      czcams.com/video/RY5VZRhhwto/video.html
      The 12V battery is obviously a negative against the car ... however, what I would say is that I think my Yaris Excel with the Tech pack is the best car I have ever bought if I ignore the 12V battery problem. Assuming that the Toyota Poland battery fix is rolled out by Toyota GB then the 12V battery problem is fixed and then I would strongly recommend a Yaris Mark 4.
      Incidentally I had a Yaris Mark 3 Hybrid for 5 years and it started reliably for for 5 years even during lockdown when I only used it once per week.

      Hello! Thank you so much for taking the time out to try and your reply. I've just purchased an used mk4 Yaris, had it couple of days now and my parents absolutely love it (it's making me envious with all the tech, thinking about changing my own 16 year old car now haha) I agree with you it is an amazing car. I haven't had it long enough to encounter the battery problem but will let you know if I do, as it does seem like it is a common problem. Thank you for your reply and amazing videos, they are the most comprehensive and informative videos on the yaris I have come across in here

      @@DrB187 It was a massive jump in technology when I changed from a 54 plate Landcruiser to a 67 plate Yaris Mark 3 Hybrid. I then changed to a 72 plate Yaris Mark 4 which was another big technology jump.

      Now that I have owned my Yaris about 18months and I have stopped experimenting with all the buttons I only use the Hold button around once a month. I only use it when I know I am going to be stationary for several minutes and don't want to keep my foot on the brake pedal for several minutes ... maybe a traffic jam at roadworks or something similar.
      There are of course other options to the Hold button ... keep foot on brake pedal or put the parking brake on manually by flicking the parking brake button or use Dynamic Radar Cruise Control (DRCC) or put car into PARK with the gearstick.
      I use DRCC when I am in a stop start traffic jam - I think it is brilliant in this situation especially if I turn on lane centring as well.
      I would only put the car into PARK if the traffic is completely stopped with no sign of any movement for many minutes.
      I have never put the handbrake on manually - that button is totally unused on my car. If I ever drive another car with an old fashioned handbrake I know I will forget to take the handbrake off!!!
      If you don't use the Hold button you are not missing out on some fantastic piece of new technology ... its just another way of ensuring the car remains stationary for several minutes.
