    So is i possible to leave the car in Ready mode and lock and carry out the procedure without washing ? I do park in a private carpark but we are not allowed to wash the car and I would prefer just to leave it for one hour.

    • @Helpful-Stuff
      @Helpful-Stuff Před dnem

      Quick answer is - Yes! A bit more info ... The service manager at my local dealer actually recommended this solution to me ... he said I should (a) start the car (READY mode) (b) take the metal key out of the fob (c) leave the fob inside the car (d) then get out of the car and lock the car with the metal key. I have never tried this method but it should work. If the car is parked in a private car park you can then leave the car in READY mode for an hour to charge the battery. The petrol engine will come on from time to time as shown in this video ... the petrol engine will come on less if you turn the heating off as shown in this video. If you are using this method, for safety reasons ensure that the car is in PARK. I have seen some incorrect comments in other forums that the 12V battery is only charged when the car is in DRIVE. This is totally wrong - the 12V battery is definitely charged from the main traction battery in PARK. You should NEVER leave a Yaris or any other automatic car unattended with the gear shift in DRIVE. For information: I believe that the 12V battery is not charged if the gear shift is in NEUTRAL. There are a couple of functions I will NEVER USE with my Yaris because the 12V battery is NOT being recharged ... (1) Accessory mode - I always put the car in READY mode even if I only want to listen to the multimedia system while I am sat waiting in the car (2) Neutral - never put the car in neutral even if you are stationary for a long time in a traffic jam. In stop start traffic I use either the Cruise Control (DRCC) which is fantastic in stop start traffic or if I am stationary for a long time I use the "Hold" button and leave the car in DRIVE. @@Helpful-StuffThanks a lot. Really appreciate your answering in such detail. Good to hear that I can lock the car while it is in Ready mode. I think that I will eventually also get hold of a better quality 12 volt battery. Just placed an order for a Noco power pack as well.

    • @Helpful-Stuff

      I have read the Yuasa battery is a much better quality battery. If the voltage from my battery starts to drop significantly or if my Yaris fails to start again I plan to go to a local garage and ask them to fit a Yuasa battery. I will not use my Toyota dealer because I am pretty sure they will only fit Toyota recommended parts ... another Mutlu. This video shows how I use a cheap voltmeter plugged into the accessory socket to monitor my Yaris' 12V battery. This allows me to monitor my 12V battery without having to do anything complicated like get under the rear seat and somehow fix leads to the 12V battery and then check the voltage with a multi-meter czcams.com/video/0nYdnNVgvJI/video.html This video was made with my original factory fitted battery which had failed to start my car once. Five months later Toyota agreed to change my 12V battery. My new battery readings are about 0.5V higher than all the readings in this video. I think this is interesting because it shows that even though my car had only failed to start once & it was only 10 months old the 12V battery was degraded - it still started the car ... but the battery is not 100% healthy. When people tell me that their car has failed to start 5 or 6 or sometimes more times then I think the battery must be so badly degraded that it will regularly fail to start the car. If a Yaris has failed to start 5 or 6 times then you really need to buy a new battery!

    Surely Toyota ought to be footing the bill for a more powerful battery. There is nothing about this defect in their sales promotion. I just got my Mazda 2 hybrid yesterday which is the same car. If this happens to mine I'll be on them like a ton of bricks.

    • @Helpful-Stuff
      @Helpful-Stuff Před 2 dny

      Somebody left a comment under one of my videos last week that they owned a 2 year old Yaris (22 plate) with 25,000 miles on the clock that does loads of long drives but it had failed to start for the first time because the 12V battery would not hold its charge according to the AA. He took the car to his local Toyota dealer and they checked the details of his car against a bulletin from Toyota GB and because it matched the details in the bulletin they changed the battery ... without testing the old battery. This no questions asked approach is totally new and maybe this Toyota GB bulletin will mark the end of the Yaris' 12V battery problem 🤞 However, it seems that Toyota GB are waiting for customers to complain before they replace the battery. So you have to suffer the inconvenience of a failure to start before Toyota GB will change the 12V battery. What they really need to do is automatically replace duff batteries for free at a service or recall all affected cars. When my 10 month old car failed to start my dealer recharged the battery and tested it the following morning and handed the car back to me and said the battery was healthy so they would not change it. I was told to drive my car more even though I do around 8,000 miles a year - which is about the UK average. This means that a Yaris cannot maintain the 12V battery charge if you "only" drive UK average mileage ... no salesman will mention this!!! The dealers are just doing what Toyota GB are telling them to do so I complained to Toyota GB. This turned out to be a LOT harder than I was expecting. I phoned up Toyota GB Customer Services and when they realised I was complaining about the 12V battery they transferred my call to the local dealer - I thought I was being transferred to another department at Toyota GB. Toyota GB do NOT want to talk to customers especially ones with a complaint. I had more success with my email complaint but it was a LONG process. 5 months after my car failed to start my battery was replaced but with the same battery that was factory fitted. In another comment I was told that Toyota Poland have worked with Toyota HQ to investigate the problem and as a result of this work all Polish dealers have got new 12V battery test equipment and procedures and any 12V battery that fails the new tests will be replaced under warranty. czcams.com/video/EHtg81kM-FU/video.html I am still trying to find out if Toyota's UK dealers have got the new test equipment and procedures that Polish dealer have got. I have absolutely no idea if the Mazda 2 suffers from the same problem. Nobody has mentioned the Mazda 2 in any other comments. If you are happy to look under the rear seat and check the 12V battery you could check if it is a Mutlu battery. If you have a Mutlu battery then it is possible that the Mazda 2 will suffer from the same problem because from everything I have read the battery seems to be the cause of the problem. I hope Mazda UK customer services are better than Toyota GB customer services. Toyota GB have been absolutely appallingly bad at handling this situation. Although I have nothing but praise for my local dealer and the service manager who I think are doing a very good job in difficult circumstances and getting absolutely no support from Toyota GB.

    I took my 7 year old ICE Yaris in for it's service in May. The manager, who knows me because I've been going to this dealership for many years, came over to chat with me, and he asked me if I was ready for changing my car. I told him I would be interested in the Yaris Cross if it wasn't for the 12v battery problem, his reply was that Toyota are aware of the problem, but his only suggestion was to use a solar panel trickle charger, which they could supply me with. I've not heard anything from them since so I presume Toyota have not addressed the problem, at least in the UK.

    • @Helpful-Stuff
      @Helpful-Stuff Před 7 dny

      I have just had a comment left under another video from somebody with a 2022 Yaris whose car has just failed to start for the first time. His dealer told him that Toyota GB has issued a "Bulletin" which details cars which can have the 12V battery replaced free of charge. The dealer did not need to test the 12V battery ... it was changed because it was covered by the bulletin. So it seems as though Toyota GB have finally decided to stop blaming customers for not driving their car enough and accepted that there is something wrong with the battery. I think it is interesting that there is a difference of approach between Toyota Poland (as shown in the video) and Toyota GB. I still do not know if Toyota dealers in the UK have the new 12V test equipment and procedures as Polish dealers. I would like to think that this means that new cars will not have the 12V battery problem. Unfortunately, I have read a comment on the Toyota Owners Club forum from somebody who was at their local dealer and saw a new Yaris Premiere Edition in the showroom connected to a battery booster to start it and move it out of the showroom. So I am not sure that the new 2024 Yaris has resolved the problem. My weekly car wash and recharge routine is keeping my 12V battery charged (cross fingers!). czcams.com/video/Ch-L0JbbQUg/video.html Also if I am leaving my car parked for more than 24 hours I will also connect the solar trickle charger using a cable my dealer installed free of charge: czcams.com/video/o8MkFUPfdvQ/video.html

    Our 2022 Yaris hybrid with 25000 miles with plenty of long trips had flat battery one morning. The AA said that it was not holding a charge in the 12 volt battery. Not impressed with this after only 2 years of normal regular use. The car has full dealership history. Apparently this is becoming a well known fault - surely Toyota should be recalling these cars and fitting a more substantial battery under warranty? Legendary reliability reputation is under threat...

    • @Helpful-Stuff
      @Helpful-Stuff Před 11 dny

      Agree with everything you say ... imagine how I felt when my 2022 Yaris was only 10months old and failed to start. It had 6,000miles on the clock and had been parked for one day and not used and then would not start. Toyota GB is telling dealers to blame customers for not driving their cars enough. This is an absolute disgrace. I do about 8,000 miles per year which is UK average. Its a bad 12V battery that needs to be recharged by driving the car every day!!! Toyota Poland has admitted there is a fault with the battery and they have got new 12V battery test equipment and procedures and they will replace any battery that fails the new tests under warranty. czcams.com/video/EHtg81kM-FU/video.html I have been told about a UK dealer who is charging £140 to recharge and test the battery. This is disgraceful and an absolute rip off because as far as I know they are not using the new 12V test equipment & procedures that are available in Poland so the tests will not find a defective 12V battery - so a wasted £140. After months of emails with Toyota GB I did eventually get a new 12V battery. I monitor the 12V battery voltage every time I start the car. I know that the old battery voltages were about 0.5V less then the new 12V battery. So I know that my old battery was degraded by just one failure to start. My battery was recharged overnight by my dealer (for free) and tested and handed back to me as "healthy". I now know that my battery was not 100% healthy and that the UK dealers 12V test equipment is not finding defective batteries. If my car fails to start again I will jump start it with the NOCO GB20 I have purchased and keep under the passenger seat. I will then get my local garage to fit a Yuasa 12V battery to replace the Mutlu 12V battery that Toyota specify. I have generally read good reports about the Yuasa 12V battery although somebody did leave a comment the other day that they had experienced a failure to start with the Yuasa battery. Cross fingers the Yuasa battery will work for me 🤞 For your information my 12V battery maintenance procedures are: (1) Every 7 to 10 days I wash the car with the car in READY mode for about 60minutes which gives the 12V battery a good charge czcams.com/video/Ch-L0JbbQUg/video.html (2) If I do not use the car for 1 or more days I always connect the solar trickle charger (as shown in this video) (3) I check the 12V battery voltage every time I start the car czcams.com/video/0nYdnNVgvJI/video.html (video made with old battery) I have not had any more failures to start ... but if I do I have got the NOCO GB20 so I should not need to call out the AA. Although you have only had one failure to start I think it is possible that this is indicating that your battery is degraded. If it is degraded the chances of another failure to start increase. For peace of mind I would recommend that you get a new 12V battery asap. Personally I would get a Yuasa from a local garage but as mentioned above while generally I have read good things about the Yuasa battery I have had one comment about a failure to start with a Yuasa battery.

      I also owned a Yaris Mark 3 from 2018 to 2022 and it started reliably even during COVID lockdowns when I only used the car once per week to go to the supermarket. Although overall I prefer the Mark 4 ... I trusted my Mark 3 to start every morning even when it was almost 5 years old ... the Mark 4 I am always a bit nervous about whether or not it will start and it is still well under 2 years old. Unless Toyota GB have supplied new 12V test equipment and procedures to all UK dealers (the same as Toyota Poland) then based on my experience the 12V battery tests that UK dealers perform is meaningless. In the dealers defence I think that Toyota GB that is putting them in an extremely difficult position. It is EXTREMELY hard to contact Toyota GB ... Toyota GB do NOT want to talk to customers about this problem. I phoned up Toyota GB Customer Services. I explained that I had a 12V battery problems and they told me they were transferring me to another team .... and I realised I had been transferred to the Service Manager at my local dealer!!! No problems on a Nissan Juke hybrid after 2 weeks at an airport

    • @Helpful-Stuff
      @Helpful-Stuff Před 21 dnem

      I believe all hybrids and EVs use a small 12V battery. Modern cars also use a lot more current when parked than a 15 or 20 year old car. Any hybrid or EV will at some stage drain the 12V battery if parked for long enough. Obviously how long it takes before the battery has drained so much that the 12V battery cannot start the car will vary from manufacturer to manufacturer and model to model. I have owned a Hybrid since 2018 and I am aware of this "characteristic" of hybrids and personally I would use a solar trickle charger if I was leaving a hybrid for two weeks in an airport car park. Many hybrids like your Nissan Juke will start OK but after 2 weeks some Hybrids won't start ... I think the solar trickle charger is a cheap solution that is quick and easy to fit to avoid the inconvenience of a flat battery. My Toyota Yaris Mark 4 has a completely different problem though .... it had only been parked for ONE day when it would not start. My car was only 10 months old and had about 6,000 miles on the clock. I believe this problem is caused by a very poor quality battery that is factory fitted to the Mark 4 Yaris. My Mark 3 Yaris never failed to start even during COVID when it was only used once per week. Toyota Poland has admitted the problem with the Mark 4 Yaris and has new test equipment and procedures. czcams.com/video/EHtg81kM-FU/video.html

    Polish batteries don’t keep the charge many other manufacturers had this same problem, under warranty you should get this changed, should of been a recall on this,

    • @Helpful-Stuff
      @Helpful-Stuff Před 23 dny

      I agree with you this should have been a recall for the Yaris Mark 4 but its not safety related so Toyota did not want the cost of doing a recall. The problem is the cost to Toyota's reputation for building reliable cars has been damaged. There is a cost to this but it is hard to put an exact amount on the reputational cost. The problem is the Mutlu 12V batteries that are factory fitted to the Yaris Mark 4. I believe that Mutlu batteries are made in Turkey ... not Poland. However, Poland is of significant interest in the Yaris Mark 4 12V story because Toyota Poland has worked with Toyota HQ to develop a solution. All Toyota Poland's dealers have new 12V battery test equipment and procedures and any battery that fails these new tests will be replaced under warranty. This video includes more details and the video's description includes a link to a Polish website that provides more details. czcams.com/video/EHtg81kM-FU/video.html I do not know if Toyota GB's dealers have the new test equipment and procedures. What I do know is that in Oct-23 my dealer tested my car's 12V battery after it failed to start when it was 10months old with just over 6,000 miles on the clock and it had just had ONE day without use. They recharged the battery and said that the battery was healthy. I complained to Toyota GB and several months later my 12V battery was replaced. I have compared voltmeter readings from the old battery with voltages measured with the new battery. My old battery was degraded ... not completely damaged but certainly not 100% healthy. It should have been replaced immediately after my car failed to start. I am still very angry about Toyota GB's approach to this problem. Toyota GB assume that every 12V battery failure is in a low mileage car that has not been used frequently. My car was NOT a low mileage car and had only had ONE day parked and then failed to start when it was only 10 months old with about 6,000miles on the clock. I believe this is unacceptable and although I have owned Toyota's since 2005 I don't think I will be buying another one. In the mean time my Yaris Mark 4 is a great car and the best car I have ever owned ... unfortunately at the same time it is also the worst car I have ever owned because it failed to start when it was only 10months old.

    • @Helpful-Stuff
      @Helpful-Stuff Před 28 dny

      I really do not want the inconvenience of my car failing to start again so I have taken a "belt and braces" approach. This is how I ensure that my car will never fail to start again... (1) Every 7 to 10 days I wash & recharge my car as shown in the video (2) I have got a solar trickle charge which I plug in if my car is parked for a day or more. Typically this only happens one day per month. (3) I have got a NOCO GB20 starter so if my Yaris does fail to start I can start it myself without needing the AA (4) I have bought a voltmeter for the accessory socket so I can keep an eye on the voltage of the 12V battery Its summer and washing my car is pleasant. It is not so pleasant in the winter when it is cold and wet. However, because of the cold winter weather it is very important to keep the 12V battery fully charged so even though its cold and not pleasant I MUST wash my car in the winter. If you are confident that you really will wash your car every 7 to 10 days even during the cold and wet of a winter's day then you probably do not need a solar trickle charger. My thoughts are that the "AA Solar trickle charger" (recommended by my Toyota dealer) is around £30 so its not a lot of money and I think it is probably worth buying one. This video shows how my dealer fitted the cable - free of charge. I am not sure of other dealers will do the same install free of charge. czcams.com/video/o8MkFUPfdvQ/video.html I also think that given your usage profile ... 2 or 3 days per week your car will be parked and not used. I think with this usage profile the solar trickle charge is the best solution for you. On these "parked" days you must remember to use the solar trickle charger and then your 12V battery should always be well charged and your car will (hopefully) never fail to start. If I was you I would probably also wash the car periodically (but not necessarily every 7 to 10 days) with the car in READY mode to give the 12V battery a good charge. Doing (1) and (2) I have not had another failure to start so I have never had to use my NOCO GB20 starter. Hopefully if you have invested in a solar trickle charger then you will not need to buy a NOCO GB20 as well. I have got an engineering background so I like having a voltmeter in my car to keep an eye on my 12V battery voltage. If you want to buy one this video may be useful... czcams.com/video/0nYdnNVgvJI/video.html As one final thought ... Polish viewers of my videos left comments that Toyota Poland agree that there is a problem and they have worked with Toyota HQ to define new 12V battery equipment and procedures which have been rolled out to all Polish Toyota dealers. If a 12V battery fails the new tests then the 12V battery will be replaced under warranty. czcams.com/video/EHtg81kM-FU/video.html If Toyota HQ have agreed that there is a 12V battery problem then it is possible that they have also changed things at the factory so that new cars in 2024 no longer have the 12V battery problem. From what I have discovered the problem is a poor quality factory fit Mutlu 12V battery. If Toyota now fit a better quality battery at the battery from somebody like Yuasa then the problem may be resolved. I was chatting to the salesman at my local dealer a few days ago and unfortunately he did not know who makes the 12V battery in a new (2024) Yaris.

The Dealership have said that they would provide a Ring RsP2000 20W Solar Power Battery Maintainer that I just have to plug into the cigarette lighter socket. The Service Manager apparently said that it will charge even though the car isn't switched on. I'm not sure I believe that. What are your thoughts on that please? Many thanks.

    • @Helpful-Stuff
      @Helpful-Stuff Před 26 dny

      The first thing I will say is despite the 12V battery problems I think my Yaris is the best car I have ever owned. It is extremely economical and has loads of gadgets - driver aids, safety aids and other "fun" stuff. I think you are correct the Ring Battery maintainer will not work plugged into the cigarette lighter socket. When the car is OFF the cigarette lighter is disconnected from the 12V battery. This is the same as most cars - this is so that you do not accidentally leave something plugged in when the car is parked and then when you return to the car the 12V battery is flat. Because the cigarette socket is disconnected from the 12V battery current cannot flow from the battery to the cigarette lighter and it cannot flow the other way from the cigarette lighter to the battery ... so the Battery Maintainer will not work plugged into the cigarette lighter. This is why my dealer fitted a cable from the ODB socket to above the dashboard so that I can plug the AA solar trickle charger in. The ODB socket does have an "always on" connection to the 12V battery so current can flow to the 12V battery even when the car is switched off and parked. czcams.com/video/o8MkFUPfdvQ/video.html Tell them that you want the "AA Solar Trickle Charger". Its not expensive - around £30. It is supplied with the ODB cable as shown in this video. (In this video I incorrectly said that my dealer would use the cable to connect directly to the battery ... they actually fitted the ODB cable as shown in the above video.) czcams.com/video/cSfik4yyXfo/video.html If they can fit the cable like my dealer did then this makes it really easy to plug in and unplug. My dealer fitted this cable for free in less than 10 minutes while I waited. I hope you have a successful discussion with your dealer. Can you leave a comment to let us know how you get on because this will be useful information for me and other people who are buying a Yaris.

      I have just gone onto the Toyota UK website and clicked through the details for a new (2024) Toyota Yaris Cross and found the details for the app which gives the links to download the correct app for a new Toyota Yaris Cross...... Android: play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.toyota.oneapp.eu Apple: apps.apple.com/gb/app/mytoyota/id1617623127 These links are to the app with an icon which has a black background and a white Toyota logo. This is the app that I use successfully with my 2022 Yaris Excel with the Smart Connect multimedia system and is the app that I am fairly confident you need to install on your phone for your new car. I think you can delete the MyT (red background) app. It's very confusing with Toyota having different versions of the app available for download. I have never been able to find a definitive statement from Toyota on which version of the app to use but I think I have pieced together the explanation from comments left on my videos from viewers in the UK and in Europe..... I think the black background is a UK only version of Toyota's app. I think the MyT app with the red background is for Europe (not the UK). Just to add to the confusion when I took delivery of my car in December 2022 there was only one app available - MyT (red background) and when I collected my new car my dealer setup this version of the app and connected my car to it. This worked successfully for the first few months. When the car was 4 or 5 months old I got a notification on my phone that I MUST switch to the new MyToyota app (black background). So I have used both the My T (red) app and the MyToyota (black) apps with my car!!! So if you have looked at several of my videos, then in some them you will see me using the MyT app (red background) and in other videos I use the MyToyota app (black background). You may like to look at my video that shows me following my car through the order process. Select a row by tapping on the row number at the far left of the screen. This will select a single row. I suspect from your question that you already know how to do this. The row number on the left will be highlighted. There is also a box around the row to show that the entire row has been selected. The border of this box will have two reasonably large dots towards the centre of the screen ... one on the upper line of the box ... the other on the lower line of the box. These dots are handles that can be dragged. - To select more rows below the currently selected row simply drag the lower dot down. - To select more rows above the currently selected row drag the upper dot up. Obviously it works in similar manner for columns. I wish I could paste a screenshot into CZcams comments and then this would be much quicker to explain!!! I hope it works the same way on your iPhone. 🤞

In this scenario, if 12v battery is old and not able able drive the starter, then car will failed to start. However, the main battery run of juice should be rare. I have to be honest I do not fully understand exactly how the petrol engine is started but I know it is nothing to do with the 12V battery and there is definitely no starter motor in a Toyota Hybrid. The petrol engine is started by the big traction battery which can somehow start the petrol engine very quickly. I think I have read somewhere that the petrol engine can start is less than one cycle of the engine - this is much faster than with a starter motor. In a normal petrol car the voltage is not that important but the 12V battery must be able to provide lots of current to the starter motor. In a Hybrid there is no starter motor so the 12V battery does not need to provide a lot of current but it must be able to provide a good voltage to the computers. If the voltage is low then the computers will detect this and the computers will not even try to start the Hybrid drive - so neither the petrol or electric motors will start. When my car refused to start the AA man measured the voltage and it was only 9.45V. czcams.com/video/-UkrUwpkePM/video.html In a petrol car when the battery is almost flat you can hear the starter motor spinning but not fast enough for the petrol engine to start. When a Toyota Hybrid fails to start there is no sound ... just the dashboard display saying "Not ready to drive". I often think that when I turn my Yaris Hybrid on I am not starting a car ... all I am doing is turning the computers on. On a cold day the petrol engine will start almost immediately ... but on a hot day, especially if the car has already been driven that day, the petrol engine may not be switched on until I have pulled out of the car park and need some acceleration. Since making this video I have discovered that Toyota Poland have admitted that there is a problem with the 12V battery in the Yaris. All the Toyota dealers in Poland now have new 12V battery test equipment and procedures and will replace any 12V battery that fails the new tests with a new 12V battery under warranty. I do not know if Toyota GB and all the UK dealers have got this new test equipment and warranty replacement procedures. czcams.com/video/EHtg81kM-FU/video.html The problem seems to be the factory fit Mutlu 12V battery. Toyota have now replaced my 12V battery. I haven't checked but I think it is a new Mutlu battery. The new battery is giving me voltages about 0.5V higher than my old battery which I had when I made this video. The new battery has never shown a reading below 12V. If this new battery does start to show readings below 12V I am going to go to a local garage and ask them to change the 12V battery to a Yuasa battery which I have read are much higher quality than the Toyota specified Mutlu battery. I will not go to a Toyota dealer because I think they will only fit the Mutlu battery since this is what is specified by Toyota. If you read the Owners manual there is nothing that states that you must use a Mutlu battery ... only that you must use a battery that meets specification "LN0, 35Ah and 264A". In order to try and keep my new battery healthy I am putting the car into READY mode for 60 minutes each week ... I wash my car while I do this czcams.com/video/Ch-L0JbbQUg/video.html I have to say it is a good job that in all other ways I think my Yaris Excel with Tech pack is a fantastic car ... in fact I think that it is the best car I have ever bought. Unfortunately I also think it is the worst car I have ever bought because a car bought from new should not fail to start when only 10 months old and after being parked and not used for just 1 day.

    I fear that I have slipped into the 'replying to a previous thread/post' hole, following a previous video. Apologies. I am very close to buying a Yaris Premier, for all the good points raised by you and others, but this battery issue could easliy be the deal-breaker I will be following this with interest and stalling my dealer as a result of this, until there are some definitive answers. Thanks to you and others, for making the loud noises that you are!

      Thanks for your messages. I think you are wise to be checking out the 12V battery issue before you purchase a new Yaris Premier. I now believe I have a good understanding of the problem ... apologies of some of the text below is a repeat of what you have read in my other comments. There is a generic issue with all Hybrids from all manufacturers because they all use a small 12V battery. Modern cars have a high current drain when parked because of the all the electronics systems that work 24x7 and the data communications between car and the manufacturer so that we can check the status of our cars on an app. If you park your car in an airport car park for 2 weeks while on holiday there is a good chance that the small 12V battery will be flat when you get back from your holiday. A solar trickle charger is the best solution for this problem because long term parking at an airport is normally outdoors. Personally I accept that this is a "feature" of a modern car and I am happy to buy a solar trickle charge to fix this problem. There is a specific problem with the Yaris Mark 4 where the battery is unable to start the car after as little as ONE day parked. I think Toyota GB assumed that all the 12V battery failures were the generic issue described above and so they instructed dealers to tell customers to drive their cars more. I think that the very high number of Yariss that failed to start should have told somebody at Toyota GB that there is something else going on here that is causing all the failures to start even in cars that do a reasonable mileage. I was very grateful to a viewer in Poland who left me a comment to say that the problem is fixed in Poland. I was sent a link to an article on a Polish website that explained how Toyota Poland accepted that there is an issue with the 12V battery and they were updating their test equipment and procedures and will replace any 12V battery that fails the new tests under warranty. (The link to this article is in the video description but you will need to use Google Translate!) czcams.com/video/EHtg81kM-FU/video.html The article says that the problem is the Multu battery that is factory fitted to the Yaris. So, Toyota GB were wrong to blame customers for not driving their cars enough - it is a Toyota problem because of a low quality 12V battery that is factory fitted. Also, the 12V battery testing that UK dealers were doing was *not* correctly identifying degraded batteries that should be replaced. What I have been unable to find out is whether or not UK dealers now have the updated test equipment and procedures that have been rolled out in Poland. My own 12V battery was replaced after a long email discussion with Toyota GB in April 2024 just before I found out about Toyota Poland. If I had found out about Poland just a couple of weeks earlier I would have been able to ask my dealer about Poland. The Service Manager told me that my battery was being replaced with the "same spec" battery. I am unsure if this means that my new battery is another Mutlu or of it is the same spec battery from a different manufacturer. I am not very experienced at car mechanics. I can do the basics but I am a bit nervous about getting access to the battery under the rear seat. If the battery fails then I will do it but while it is working I don't want to touch it - sorry! So I still cannot be certain what replacement battery has been fitted .... its the same spec so I think it is another 35Ah battery ... possibly from Mutlu possibly made by another manufacturer. From what I have read people have had success changing the 35Ah battery to a 45Ah battery at Halfords. I do not know the make of the battery that Halfords fit. This works because the bigger 12V battery has a bigger store of electricity so when parked the battery will last a lot longer before it is unable to start the car. But eventually even this 12V battery will run out of charge. But this is the generic issue with hybrids that I discussed at the top. I have also read that Yuasa make much better quality batteries and their 35Ah battery also solves the problem. The Owners manual states "Use a battery that the case size is same as the previous one, 20 hour rate capacity (20HR) is eqivalent or greater, and performance rating (CCA) is equivalane tor greater. Check the label on top of the battery for the battery size and specifications (ex LN0, 35Ah, 264A)" "If the 20 hour rate capacity is low even if the time period where the vehicle is not used is a short time, the 12volt battery may discharge and the hybrid system may not be able to start." There is nothing in this text saying you MUST use a Mutlu battery. So if I start to get low voltages I will go to a local garage and get a Yuasa battery fitted. I will not go to a Toyota dealer because I am concerned they will just fit another Mutlu. I accept that there is absolutely no way I can get Toyota to pay for it ... but to be honest a battery is not that expensive and I will feel much more confident that my car will start. If I was in your position I think I would want to know who makes the 12V battery in the new Yaris Premier. I really hope that it is a Yuasa and not a Mutlu. It seems a very detailed question to ask about a new car but given the situation I think it is a valid question. If it is a Mutlu then I would not necessarily walk away because the Yaris is a very good car but be aware that you will need to "manage" the 12V battery. I do this with a weekly wash and recharge czcams.com/video/Ch-L0JbbQUg/video.html And I use the accessory socket voltmeter to keep an eye on the voltage. And be prepared for the relatively small cost of getting a local garage to fit a better quality battery. I hope this helps you in your discussions with the salesman. It would be great to get an update after your discussions.

    I installed one of these in my Yaris just after I bought it three years ago. Never a flat battery since. As Toyota must have been aware of this problem with the hybrid system for some time, why on Earth didn’t they, design and include a solar cell in the roof of the car to obviate the problem? Perhaps it might destroy their market in selling us their little expensive and inadequate 12 Volt battery. Other than this really annoying feature, the Yaris has been a pleasant and economical form of transport.

      I often say my Yaris is the best car I have ever owned - fantastic fuel consumption, head up display, intelligent cruise control and loads of other gadgets... but unfortunately because of the 12V battery problem it is also the worst car I have ever owned. I use my solar trickle charger if my car has a day parked. I have also got into the routine of a weekly recharge by putting the car in READY mode while I wash it. czcams.com/video/Ch-L0JbbQUg/video.html It is the cleanest car I have ever owned ... and it has also started reliably since it failed to start last October.

      2 months after I made this video Toyota GB agreed to change my 12V battery. I have now had the new 12V battery for almost 4 months and the voltages that I am seeing on my voltmeter are around 0.5V higher than the voltages shown in the video. I have never seen the new battery show a voltage of less than 12V. The most common reading is 12.3V. This has really surprised me because my old battery regularly showed less than 12V (as shown in the video) so I think this must mean that my old 12V battery was degraded i.e. it was not completely damaged an unusable but it could not be considered 100% healthy. The battery was degraded such that my 10 month old Yaris was unable to hold sufficient charge when the car was parked for just one day to start the car the following day. Since a lot of Yaris Mark 4s fail to start I do not believe that I was unlucky and got a bad battery ... I think Toyota have chosen a very low quality 12V battery to factory fit. Thanks to comments on other videos I have also discovered that Toyota Poland have admitted that there is a problem with the Yaris and all Polish dealers have got new 12V battery test equipment and procedures and any batteries that fail the new tests will be replaced under warranty. czcams.com/video/EHtg81kM-FU/video.html Because my new battery is exactly the same as my old battery I expect that if I do nothing it will fail again in around 10months time. So with the new 12V battery I am recharging the battery with 60 minutes in READY mode while I wash the car as shown in this video: czcams.com/video/Ch-L0JbbQUg/video.html I am monitoring the 12V battery with my voltmeter. If the voltages do start to drop below 12V I have decided that I will go to a local garage (not a Toyota dealer) and get a Yuasa 12V battery fitted. From what I have read they are a much higher quality battery. I believe that Toyota dealers will only fit parts recommended by Toyota so a dealer will only fit the same low quality battery that is installed at the factory. It's such a pity because in a lot of ways my Yaris Mark 4 is the best car I have ever owned ... unfortunately at the same time it is also the worst car I have ever owned because of the 12V battery issue.

      Thanks - I am glad the video was helpful👍 I think the mounts have been designed so that they provide a secure, vibration free mounting for a GoPro which is great but to make it vibration free it is an unusual design. When you get your first GoPro it is not obvious how the mounts work - it certainly wasn't obvious to me and from the number of views and all the comments under my video its not obvious to lots of people. A simple slip of paper with a diagram supplied with the mounts would be all that is required.

      I cannot replicate your problem on my computer. I have forwarded an email in my inbox to another email address. When I do this the forwarded email is added to my inbox. I use Gmail's "Conversation view" and I wondered if this may affect forwarded emails. However, I have just disabled conversation view and forwarded an email in my inbox to another email address and the forwarded email appears in my Inbox. I suspect that there may be a setting somewhere in your setup that is preventing forwarded emails from being added to your inbox but I am not sure which setting is causing the problem.
