I have a Toyota Excel registered October this year.
I have been having problems with wireless Android Auto from the beginning.
The connection is intermittent and unreliable.
Is this a glitch in the system or do I have a problem with my set up?

I had a very old Huawei phone when I collected my car from the dealer. Wireless Android would not work at all but that was because the version of Android on the phone was too old and did not support wireless Android Auto. This old phone would work with the cable ... but only the cable supplied with the phone - which is a known "feature" of Android Auto - it needs a good quality cable. So this old phone ran Android Auto very reliably but only with the manufacturer's cable.
Shortly after collecting the car I bought a new phone and this did support Wireless Android Auto ... it connected to the car first time and works reliably around 90% of the time. But 10% of the time it will connect to Bluetooth but be unable to start Android Auto. However, since it has connected with Bluetooth I just change the Media player to Bluetooth and I can still play music from my phone and make and receive phone calls. The main thing that I am missing is Google Maps on the car's screen - if I really need navigation I use the in-car SatNav. Android Auto always works the next time I start the car so to be honest its a minor inconvenience rather than a problem and I am not sure if it is a phone or a car problem. I have not had this problem since the update so I am keeping my fingers crossed that this update has fixed the problem.
From what I had read I was concerned that Android Auto would be intermittent and unreliable but 90% of the time Android Auto starts and once it is connected it remains connected for the entire trip.
For your info details about my phone
      Samsung Galaxy X Flip3 5G
Android 13 (with security patch 1-Nov-23)
      Samsung One UI V5.1.1
I have read about some problems with Android Auto and Android 14.
Have you Googled to see if other people are having problems with Android Auto running on your phone when connected to any car from any manufacturer?
Has Toyota's update improved your Android Auto?

@@Helpful-Stuff Thank you for your reply, All I can say is DITTO to your observations.
I also had an aged phone I needed to change when I upgraded my Yaris in October.
I also have the same problems with Wireless Android Auto as you 10 % of the time.
I do use maps more than most as I am a community transport volunteer and use maps to find private addresses
Like you I am hoping the recent software upgrade will fix 10% glitch.
I have switched to Toyota maps in the past when essential directions were needed.

It sounds like we both have pretty similar problems with Android Auto and we both have our fingers crossed that this update fixes the 10% problem.
For me its just an inconvenience but with your volunteer role it is obviously much more important that you have access to Google Maps. My fingers are firmly crossed 🤞🤞🤞

I have the exact same car but i haven't received anything. Do i need to download data from anywhere and put it in a usb?

Your car should periodically remind you if there is an update to install.
If you want to check if you have missed an update .... tap the settings cogwheel, then the "System" tab, then "Software Update" ... at the bottom of the screen there is a button "Check for updates". If this says you are up to date then your system must be up to date.

@@Helpful-Stuff Thanks. I have Toyota touch 2 though. What do I do?

I have never owned a car with the Touch 2 multimedia system so I don't know how to check for updates.
However, my Smart Connect system is a completely different to your Touch 2 system ... just because the Smart Connect system has had an update this does not mean that the Touch 2 system is also getting an update.
My best guess is if the Touch 2 system is not telling you about an update then there isn't an update.

@@Helpful-Stuff Alright Thanks. What's the differences between these two?

    • @Helpful-Stuff
      @Helpful-Stuff  Před 3 měsíci

I am not sure what features are on the Touch 2 system so not sure what the differences are but the feature that I use all the time on my Smart Connect system is wireless Android Auto ...
This means that I can use Google Maps rather than Toyota's in-car SatNav.
I can also use Google Assistant ... so I just need to press the button on my steering wheel and say "Call " or "Text " or "Navigate to " or "take a voice note" etc
Google Assistant will also read texts, WhatsApps etc to me. (But not emails - I think they are considered too long and may be a distraction.)
And because it is is wireless I don't need to take my phone out of my pocket. Although on a long drive the battery on my phone will run out so I have to put the phone on a wireless charging pad. I believe wireless charging pads are now included in some levels of trim but I had to buy a wireless charging pad that is plugged into the USB socket in my car.
As you can probably tell ... I really like my Smart Connect system 👍

4:02 It doesn't "require" you to accept, there's a skip button..?

    • @Helpful-Stuff
      @Helpful-Stuff  Před 8 měsíci

I agree ... in hindsight I probably should have said something like "...if you want to activate Offers and Smart Stops then you are required to accept and activate...".
To be honest I said what I said because I think most people will tap accept and activate and ignore the skip button ... in the same way that most people will tick the box to say they have read the T&Cs on a website when nobody actually reads the T&Cs!
