      I see both sides. But remember, this was Owens last game for them, he was being released on a free. He needs to be 100% to get a new contract elsewhere as no one will pay him to sit on the bench.... as he did anyways during Newcastle... and everywhere after.
      He was paid £120.000 a week at Newcastle and he sat on their bench for 2 seasons. I can see why Mr. Newcastle got a bit peeved.

  • @joevolcano6720
    @joevolcano6720 Před rokem +1

    Owen's career decline can be best described in Jonathan Wilson's 'Reversing the Pyramid' in that the role of the centre forward was changing whilst Owen's career was in its ascent and so about halfway through his career he was still playing the traditional 'fox in the box' when the then modern forwards were in the mold of a Ronaldo Nazario, or a Thierry Henry. Put on shed loads of injuries (which was probably the result of starting his career so young) and you have this semi tragic career, but with many early highs.

    A friend of mine played at Chelsea youth team in the 1970s. He trained so hard one of his quads ruptured leaving a gaping hole in his left leg. He had to then go into the gym , do lots of leg work over months and train to get the remaining three quads to compensate for the missing quad.

    He had a clause in his contract to say he
    could leave anytime Liverpool came in for him. He never wanted to play for Newcastle and rarely did. Real Madrid didn't want him nor did Liverpool, more fool Newcastle.

    Michael Owen. Oh mikey mikey mikey. One of the best strikers in the world until he lost his pace, then injuries but still a great finisher. He lacked the intricate technique though and the physicality to help him past the loss of pace. And he's also thoroughly unlikeable; the southall vid, the Ronaldo comment and now this bullshit. Anyway cheers for the goal against City.
